Hello. Is there a way to set the default User Agent on the stock browser to Desktop?
Brgds... /Tubgirl

Yeah there is but it doesn't stay as desktop for some reason. Best downloading dolphin.

type "about:debug" in the address bar. The go to settings, debug, UAString. This also turns on the java console...you can uncheck that a couple items down.

Use Skyfire or Opera Mobile 11.
You can even put in custom user agent on the latter.

+1 with dolphin HD
Jwb
Same here, no issues at all with the browser using Dolphin and setting desktop. Only downside was some pixelation when my wifi got too congested. The browser version is more functional than the app so I'm not sure what the benefit would even be at this point.

How do you change the default to "Desktop" on the Xoom? I was on HBO Go's site and went into the native browser settings and didn't see a spot to change it.

Type this in your browser:
Code:
about:browser
Your browser will appear to do nothing but it activated extra settings options in the setting menu.
Go to settings in your browser. Then go to "Debug", then "UAString", then select "Desktop".
You have to do this or else hbo will think you are one a phone and redirect you to their mobile site.
My problem with the browser is that it's somewhat less responsive and is not very user friendly when you are trying to look through the movie collection. The app version is very user friendly as mobile devices were in mind when they created it.
about:debug and then go into the setting and change the UA settings to desktop and your all set but you have to do it everytime you close the browser
anyone else notice choppy playback when using the browser (both stock and dolphin hd)? I just tried it for a tv show and a movie and the playback would go from great to choppy. The wifi I'm connected to is high bandwidth and shouldn't be clogging it.

The command should be:
Code:
about:debug
That did work, however. Thanks!

Disable Mobile view no change

Question about the browser, this happens in 2 of the 3 roms I've used. i choose to disable mobile view, it doesn't make the transition. Still stays on mobile view. Anyone else?
Maybe try another browser

What Rom are you running?
I'm running CM7 7.1.0 and I've never had a problem switching views with Opera. Kind of a pain to go into settings-advanced-select desktop but it always works.

I don't use CM7, but you can try this. Open Opera, go into settings, and see if you can change the UA String. If you can set it to Desktop, instead of Mobile.

In stock Browser you can type "about:debugging" into the address bar and hit enter. Then go into the Browser settings and there should be a debug menu which will allow you to change the UA Agent to Desktop.

Browser question

OK, my wife has a kindle fire and she is able to switch her web browser to where it won't show mobile sites but full web pages. Can we do this? I've looked but can't find anything. I'm fully stock with ics.

Type "about:debug" into the browser's address bar and hit enter
Click the menu and enter settings.
Go to Debug and change the UAString to desktop.
This method is universal with almost every android device.

Also on menu is 'request as desktop site'.

That didn't do anything but the second one I was able to find. I guess I never noticed it before. Thanks!

Request desktop site will not display the desktop version of all sites by default.
Changing the UAString in settings does....
If you hit enter after you type about:debug then hit enter, nothing noticeable should happen. It will however give you the debug options in settings where you could change your UAString setting to desktop.
Once you close the browser it will clear your debug settings, but you can activate it again by typing about:debug then hit enter and it will immediately load your prior debug settings.
If it doesn't work for you then your doing something wrong.
I use this on the Xoom and my Android phone since the "request desktop site" option doesn't work for most of the sites I do business in.

[Q] how to force the use of a selected app avoiding choice menu

Hi to you all.
I am not using the default browser or the default calendar.
However, each time I open an internet link it asks me which browser to use and if it is punctual or permanent.
When I select permanent it directs me towards settings/general/applications by default.
When I go there, I only find the choice between Touchwiz and Nova my launcher, nothing on browser choice (or Calendar for which I have same issue): no other menu...
Could someone advise where I got it wrong?
Thanks a lot

usually if should ask which app to use and give a choice of always or just once. What country is yours from? maybe it is a regional thing.
