OK, my wife has a kindle fire and she is able to switch her web browser to where it won't show mobile sites but full web pages. Can we do this? I've looked but can't find anything. I'm fully stock with ics.

Type "about:debug" into the browser's address bar and hit enter
Click the menu and enter settings.
Go to Debug and change the UAString to desktop.
This method is universal with almost every android device.

Also on menu is 'request as desktop site'.

That didn't do anything but the second one I was able to find. I guess I never noticed it before. Thanks!

Request desktop site will not display the desktop version of all sites by default.
Changing the UAString in settings does....
If you hit enter after you type about:debug then hit enter, nothing noticeable should happen. It will however give you the debug options in settings where you could change your UAString setting to desktop.
Once you close the browser it will clear your debug settings, but you can activate it again by typing about:debug then hit enter and it will immediately load your prior debug settings.
If it doesn't work for you then your doing something wrong.
I use this on the Xoom and my Android phone since the "request desktop site" option doesn't work for most of the sites I do business in.

Use Skyfire or Opera Mobile 11.
You can even put in custom user agent on the latter.
In browser address bar type about:debug enter.. Now go to settings and scroll all the way down. Now change to your desired uastring... To go back, just about:debug again.
Also now when you download you don't get that dumb few kb file thats a .htm file... You can Even download 100+ mb files without getting that.htm error..at least it works for me..

+1 with dolphin HD
Jwb
Same here, no issues at all with the browser using Dolphin and setting desktop. Only downside was some pixelation when my wifi got too congested. The browser version is more functional than the app so I'm not sure what the benefit would even be at this point.

How do you change the default to "Desktop" on the Xoom? I was on HBO Go's site and went into the native browser settings and didn't see a spot to change it.

Type this in your browser:
Code:
about:browser
Your browser will appear to do nothing but it activated extra settings options in the setting menu.
Go to settings in your browser. Then go to "Debug", then "UAString", then select "Desktop".
You have to do this or else hbo will think you are one a phone and redirect you to their mobile site.
My problem with the browser is that it's somewhat less responsive and is not very user friendly when you are trying to look through the movie collection. The app version is very user friendly as mobile devices were in mind when they created it.
about:debug and then go into the setting and change the UA settings to desktop and your all set but you have to do it everytime you close the browser
anyone else notice choppy playback when using the browser (both stock and dolphin hd)? I just tried it for a tv show and a movie and the playback would go from great to choppy. The wifi I'm connected to is high bandwidth and shouldn't be clogging it.

The command should be:

about:debug
That did work, however. Thanks!
How do I get dedicated apps (YouTube, Play Store) to open links and not the browser/chrome?
The only way I have found it to work is to not have a browser installed. On my tablet links open up the apps but with my Rezound the browser takes over and by default opens all links.
The settings don't mean anything and no prompt even comes up when clicking a link asking what app I want to use to open said link, it just goes to the default browser automatically.
It like this on three ICS roms on my Rezound I've used.
There is a App Associations setting in the settings menu that seems to be messing up the way that it works.
From my experience...go into the settings menu of the the handset and select apps. Next scroll to your current browser under the applications list and click on it.
Then scroll down all the way and select 'clear defaults'. Confirm. That should do the trick and whenever u click on any link in any app it will prompt you to select an option such as YouTube or browser instead of just opening up automatically in a browser.

That's the deal, clearing defaults doesn't do anything . There is no more prompt, just launches the browser.

Can you make it more clearly?
bump
Did anyone resolve this issue? I also have link association issues unique to ICS as well. For instance, I used to (w/gingerbread) be able to click a video link in google+ then it would ask what I wanted to view the video with (browser or YouTube), now all web links open in the browser only, no questions asked... What is with that? Same with links in gtalk.
Nope it a HTC issue

Issue has been corrected with latest Meanrom ICS ROM... guess it was just annother ICS Virgin Mobile Leak bug...

I see! Here's how you do it:
Type about:debug in the adress bar. (nothing seems to happen but it does)
Go to settings and the last alternative, it probably says something like debug (my tablet ain't in English).
Set the UAString to desktop (or whatever you prefer).
Hope this do the trick for you
