Real issues with RUU update - HTC Desire S

OK, here's the skinny:
Win7Ulti 64bit
2x Desire S (one orange branded, one stock)
I have tried updating both from the official RUU from HTC both stall copying the update to the phone and after an hour or so, pulling the cable drops to the bootloader.
I have since unlocked the Orange phone from the HTCDev site, still no joy. I've also tried the PG88IMG zip, which is found, loads then drops back to the bootloader.

Any ideas where I can go from here?

I'm assuming it's my hboot version, everyone seems to be talking about 2.00.2002. Going to try updating it.

As you are S-ON, use my guide for downgrade and use your preferred RUU. If you have followed it correctly, you shouldn't have any problems.

Err, not sure what I should be downgrading, as I'm already on 2.00.0002. Should I be going to lower than this still?

You don't need to downgrade anything if you are using the latest released RUU.
Your bootloader does need to be locked which yours is not.

Let me clear what I've said: you can follow my guide (downgrading guide), but instead of using a downgrade RUU. Use the one that you prefer, may it be the latest RUU (upgrade your hboot, rom, etc), or old (downgrade your hboot, rom, etc). The guide should help you successfully RUU your phones.
Afaik, the PG88IMG.zip update method is only applicable for S-OFF devices. I may need to be corrected here.

K, will try locking again and running the RUU.

Still just hanging sending the update to the phone; pretty sure this is a comms issue now, but not sure where to go from here. Will have another bash tomorrow.

[Q] HBOOT Locked but still able to root?

Hi,
i just want to understand something, i was S-Off ,CWR and rooted on my stock ROM. There was a new update so i installed the new official ROM found from here:
RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.3_Radio_10.56.9035 .00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_219990_signed

After that i installed again the CWR and rooted my phone again with no problem at all. I went to HBOOT today and i saw this:

and my question is how did i installed CWR and rooted while my bootloader is locked? Is the locked means that the bootloader can not been writen so i can not install the CWR?
Thanks.
Totally normal. Notice the S-Off part? You have a new hboot now, that's all. If you want extended fastboot commands you'll need to re-run revolutionary or flash the eng hboot. If you don't need them, then you are good to go. Just remember, S-Off IS S-Off
suprised s-off survied the RUU

I had the same thing happened to me, it's irritating to see this happen. All it took for me to fix, was to follow the guide provided here.
All I had to do was S-off, Unlock, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on again. Please let me know how it goes!
Sorry to give you bad news, but you can't use that guide to gain S-off again. You have to be in hboot 1.18 or earlier for revolutionary to work. And you're S-on with hboot 1.27, so no luck there.
My recommendation is to be patient and wait for revolutionary to update, otherwise, you will be wasting a lot of time trying what's out there right now.
There's a lot of people trying to help those who are in the same situation as us (I'm S-on with hboot 1.23), but so far, no method have worked for hboot 1.20, 1.23 nor 1.27.
The only thing you could do is unlock the bootloader with htc dev (don't do it if you don't want to lose your warranty), install a custom recovery (I use 4ext) and then try an ICS ROM or restore a NAND backup if you did one previously. But first read, read, and then read a little more before doing anything else to your phone.

Thanks for you answare but please can you link me a guide or tell me yourself how to unlock it with htcdev. Because i don't know how to do it. Thank you.
How long do you think it will take for Revolutionary to update to my version?

There's something you can try first: Find the ROM.zip of the RUU you installed, extract the boot.img and flash it with fastboot with the command fastboot flash boot boot.img. That, probably, will let you boot and use your phone normally.
You can follow this guide and try your luck trying to go back to S-off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469296.
Remember to read carefully everything before attempting anything.
About htcdev:
Here is diagram of the process http://htcdev.com/bootloader/preview_unlock_process and there you have a link to the F.A.Q. too.
Then, you register here http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ and start the process following all the instructions that they give you.
About Revolutionary:
Only them could know that. There is a firmware version with an hboot 1.27 already unlocked by them, so they are still working on the project.
It can be fixed but you updated your h-boot to 1.27, I think it's bricked and I recommend you to send it to the htc
I have the same problem, I went S-ON and on stock GB rom, then installed the OTA update from HTC, now it won't boot. I think I will wait for the 1.27 RUU because I have unlocked the bootloader and don't think HTC will repair it for free.
I'm gonna send it in for support and hope they will fix it

Dare I ask why?
I have the original 2.3.5 ROM. First I want to try Endymion but I want to make sure that it is able to return to the original ROM.

Maybe he's going to be ready for the fresh Android ICS?
For example, I also still have an idea to revert everything back to stock because of ICS.

I'm afraid that as I've never used HTCDEV, as my device is S-OFF permanent having using XTC-Clip its not a process that I've ever considered.
I believe that it might be possible, but complicated as you've unlocked using HTCDEV and will require to RELOCK, although I don't personally feel confident enough to instruct anyone how to do it as I've never done it myself, if it is possible then the information is here in the forum, as the question has been asked time and time again.
But, I'd say if you only wanted to do it to receive the OTA update, you're probably be better off installing a custom that is build from the update, which will probably be out in the wild before most users get the OTA. At least thats what I plan on doing.
You need to flash stock recovery, then PG88IMG.zip with ROM, which has same hboot.
Trying this with desire S 0.98.0002 S-off with Revolutionary, flashed 1.48(same Hboot),after flashing 2.10 device not booted.
Try this at your own risk!!!

Is it good HBOOT?

Sorry for stupid questions, but it's my first HTC phone.
I have following info in bootloader:
Code:
locked
saga pvt ship s-off rl
hboot-2.00.0002
radio-3822.10.08.04_m
emmc-boot
aug 22 2011,15:22:13
Is it fully working S-OFF unlocked bootloader? I don't understand "locked S-OFF". What can I unlock more? Do you recommend me a downgrade? If yes, why?
What is it ENG bootloader? I've read that it's normal, stock HBOOT, but others describes it as unlocked, S-OFF HBOOT with more commands.
I want to use every ROM at xda without any restrictions.
Thanks for any help.

What you asking is similar with my recent question, you can read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940982
AFAIK when you S-OFF you can flash any ROM for DS easily without need a pc or laptop to flash boot image in case you are S-ON because it will done when you flashing a ROM via recovery.

But it when wanted to run the ruu it says that i have to search a compatible ruu for my phone. but because i have already used the ruu i simply changed the radio to 1.11.50.05.28 but it don't work is it because i have a other hboot?

As you're s-off I think you should reflash stock recovery before you will be able to flash any other RUU successfully...
Also it's not necessary to lock/unlock bootloader once you are s-off.
