wm2005 is really a big step forward. However, I have a big problem with the clicking sounds when you choose a menu or an application. I wanted to remove those 2 sounds, but that's impossible since these are in Rom.
I can't find anything how to remove this hoorible clicks. I hope that someone has a suggestion.

Why don't you just uncheck sounds fo "Events (warnings, system events) from the Sounds and Notifications in the Personal Settings?

There is a way, you would have to search your device for the original sounds, back them up and override them with your own.
as long as you know the name of the sound you want to change; it's possible. for me, i changed the normal beep sound when the "G" icon comes up after a soft reset (GPRS). the name of that sound is "default". what i did was took a wav file i wanted to use, from my laptop i renamed it to "default", copied and pasted it to the windows folder of my unit. there will be a menu pop-up question saying something like "the file "default" already exists, do you want to replace it?" click ok and there you go; the default sound is different. the other built in sounds can be seen when you go to your sounds and notifications folder. example; the activesync sound can be changed by choosing from the drop down menu. these are the built in sounds; you can change the actual wav file by putting in a sound with the same name (like the one i did for the default sound). i think what you can't do is change the name of the built in sound...

Yes , thank-you guys it works Gr8 . Only thing is that you need to use another file explorer like Resco etc etc if you want to replace the system sound cuz the built in Explorer won't allow it .

This may be common knowledge to all, but in case it is not:
1) To disable the start up sound, in the /etc directory, rename the file PowerOn.wav to PowerOn.wav.bak.
2) To disable the shutdown sound, in the /system/media/audio/ui directory, rename shutdown.ogg to shutdown.ogg.bak.
I did this using a rooted phone with ADB. I am sure there may be an easier way if someone would like to provide further instructions regarding this.
I hope this info helps someone, those sounds very super-loud and annoying! If this info is available elsewhere, let me know and I will remove this post.

Also, for those that do wish to have startup/shutdown sounds: Rename your favorite sound in the same format as the file you will be replacing and you should have new sounds.
Since we have a lot of Noobs here (no derogatory intent as I was once a noob as well) here is a little bit better explanation:
Startup sound: locate the sound file you want played, convert it to a .wav file format, rename the file to "PowerOn.wav" and remove the original/replace it with your new file.
Shutdown sound: The same above - but the sound file must be in the .ogg file format and needs to be renamed "shutdown.ogg"
The location of the two files can be found in the above post.

Good point. In fact, just replacing these files with modified versions that are a much lower volume might be a good way to go, so you still get the sounds but without them being annoyingly loud.

I disabled the startup animation but was still left with the startup sound. Now things are complete. Did you find out where this PowerOn.wav is being referenced? And why didn't they put this in the media folder with the rest???

Sure, that works if (a) you want to always keep your system sound muted or (b) you always remember to change this setting before rebooting. If you never want the start up or shutdown sounds to play at all, regardless of system volume, then you can rename those files and you never need to worry about it.
All it muted was the startup/shutdown noises... My notifications, ringtones, etc still sound off. Sounds still work on my games. And even with a reboot my settings are still saved.

The sound level of the startup and shutdown screens depends on whatever volume you had your phone at when you shut it down.

Waiting on this too - if we disable the horrid AT&T bars logo animation, I can leave the startup sound and animation for the Galaxy S right where it is! that's the hope at least, disable individual animations instead of a setting like "disable all startup animations"

Does this boot faster by removing them? I guess I could sacrifice the cool Galaxy S startup IF it boots faster!

Install "busybox" from the Market, then install Droid Explorer to view root files

Unfortunately, like another user on the other thread, even with busybox installed, I cannot get certain folders to open AND cannot make my file renaming stick - I'll rename a file and click another folder, then go back and it hasn't been renamed! I'm certain this has something to do with busybox, but can't figure it out!

Taking jsmith's suggestion, I've edited the PowerOn.wav sound file down to 1/4 original volume for those like me that don't mind the sound itself, only the ridiculous volume of it.
I am, however, not so skilled at using adb to copy/replace the original in the /etc folder so, any help would be greatly appreciated. I just keep getting permissions errors. Anyway, if someone can offer up specific adb commands for us semi-noobs, it would be a plus. Thanks in advance.

I also experienced issues with renaming files and having them return to their previous name. I resolved this by re-rooting the phone, used root file explorer and then moved/copied/renamed as I deemed fit.
You need to remount /system as read/write instead of read-only. This can be done with the mount command or with some file managers like root explorer.
I have been able to customize every sound for my phone except the sound when my phone locks or unlock. Has anyone found the file that needs to be modified in order to change that? I have tried to use many of the lockscreen replacement apps, but none habe satisfied what I'm looking for. TIA.

replace the unlock.ogg with whatever .ogg file you want to use inside the system/media/audio/ui folder. I used my droid.ogg for each time i unlocked the screen, but make sure its the same file name as the one your replacing or it won't work.
edit: I uploaded the droid.ogg file, just rename it to Unlock.ogg before you paste it into the system/media/audio/ui folder.

the .ogg file is inside the .zip i attached, i just can't attach it as an actual file since XDA doesn't allow that format unless its zipped
rename droid.ogg to unlock.ogg
i've done this many times before with all the ROMs i've used and it works as long as its a Froyo rom since it was added in 2.2 for the Incredible.
.ogg is a format thats open source, playable on WinAMP, VLC, and GOM player.
if you need to convert a file that you don't have in .ogg format, use this link to upload it and convert it online.

I know I posted this in the other lock sounds thread, but I thought I would post it here to for those that may be watching this thread for an answer.
SUCCESS! I was actually able to use a different site using my phone. http://www.online-convert.com/
I then used root explorer to rename and copy the file into the correct system folder. Works great now. My only complaint is that it seems I can't control the volume of the lock/unlock sounds I chose using any of the volume settings. It's always on full blast unless I set to silent or vibrate. Any ideas? Thanks.

I dont think you can adjust the volume of the unlock UI notification within of the basic controls of the volume (RT/Media/Alarm). Only thing i can think of is editing the sound file to a lower volume you can use most audio editors/mixers to do that. Then convert/overwrite

SUCCESS AGAIN!! I did some research and found out you can change the system volume, which controls the lock sounds, via an app called Audio Manager. I just used the free widget version and lowered my system volume by one or two. Works great. I don't personally use the widget portion of the app. Thanks for everyone's help on this. Hope my trials help someone else find the answers they need.

This shouldn't effect your phone or harm it but if you screw it up its not my fault always have a backup.
I figured Id do a how to for some new people or those who never thought of this. Anyways....
1. You'll need some kind of root viewer root explorer es file manager etc. (Make sure your system is rewritable)
2. A .wav file is needed so find one you like however if you don't have one or only have a mp3 then use an online converter.
3.Once you have those two go into your root file viewer and find /system then go into the etc file and scroll down until you see a PowerOn.wav if you don't see one then it's fine. However go ahead and delete it and paste your .Wav file sound and rename it to PowerOn.wav Reboot and you should hear your sound playing. I if not your phone sucks ^^ no but then you did something wrong or your kernel may not support it.
UI Sounds
Okay for UI sounds it very similiar except go into the media folder in /system find audio and look in UI folder. For (the touch sound) find TW_Touch.ogg and delete it and paste your .ogg file you'd liked to use I personally just rename the Effect_Tick.ogg to TW_Touch and it sounds like the normal gingerbread touch tone. (Charger Connection Sound) is the Charger_Connection.ogg and the the full battery notification is TW_Battery_caution and lastly the low battery notification is TW_Low_Battery.
Just reboot and the new sounds shall take effect.

How is the selection done from the files within the directory? Do we replace the file with our own with the same filename? Because I changed from one rom (Omega 16.2) to another (Omega 9.2) and I saved in my pc the folder /system/media/audio/ui from both roms to compare them. Although both roms have (almost) the same files in the directory, the touch sound (which is the one I want to change) is different. So how do I choose which file the system uses for each operation?
EDIT: I am using Samsung Galaxy SII, I got here from a link from another thread. I will post this to the proper forum again, although the system is the same
