[Request] Matthew DeVito Boot Animation - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

So I just stumbled across these GIFs on Reddit...
http://imgur.com/a/Pdd7r
And I was thinking that some of them would make pretty amazing boot animations.
How hard would it be to get these as 720p boot anims?
Thanks.

...lol lets just say "not so easy" but I accomplished it in about 1/2 a hour lol
compacting them to my flasher is what took the longest... lol about another hour

thanks a lot!

I created a full-screen, 720p version of this one: http://i.imgur.com/7iifw.gif as a bootanimation.zip but no matter what I do, (I replace the original bootanimation.zip (in system/media) ) it just shows the default, stock Android boot animation.
I'm running the CM10 nightlies. It doesn't work on Sense ROMs either.
Here's the file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2377259/bootanimation.zip
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
edit: Can I create it as a flashable zip?

Well, one thing to do would be to re-create the zip. The zip you link to is compressed and you need to remake it so that it is in store mode. Not as familiar with how CM is structured, but you may want to check the default.xml and see what file it is pointing to for the bootanimation. After moving the new zip file in, copy it back out and check the contents to make sure it was actually written to your device. If none of the above works, you'll have to check with someone who has more knowledge than we do about CM.

Incorrect. There is a setting in Development that allows SU access through ADB.

When flashing a ani through my "flasher" it replaces the default.xml file to point to that animation directly which is why I wonder if there is a special thing in CM that replaces it every time it boots.

The read/write permissions for the zip file seemed odd, so I set them to 777.
I also zipped them to "stock" (uncompressed) using WinRAR, which no one had ever told me to do.

[BOOT ANIMATION] Halo Reach - Auntie Dot

Thought I would share this with the community. I pulled these frames from Halo Reach and put them into a boot animation. The bootanimation.zip file is not something you can flash. I haven't learned how to do that yet. BUT you can use this with BootAnimationChangerTrial. You just put this zip file into the backupbootanimation folder and then inside the app do "Install backup boot animation". And If anyone could make some type of Live wallpaper out of this, I would probably crap my pants.
It is 480x800. It looks pretty good on my NexusOne. I should say this is one of the first boot animations I've done. So I apologize for the huge file size, I think its because it uses the whole screen.
Download Auntie Dot Boot Animation
HOLYY CRAP!!! Really nice!
Simply FANTASTIC.
It's awesome! To get the file size down, you could resize each frame to a lower resolution. I do mine for N1 at 200x333 and they look just as good tbh. Keep up the good work!
Very nice! I plan to make a live wallpaper of Auntie Dot once im done with my current project. Should go well with this when done.
Here ya go...I ran it through a quick optimizer. It's just a quick one, probably could do better if you wanted to spend some time with it, but it shrank around 3MB.
And I put it in an update.zip format that will place the file in /data/local/ so rom updates won't erase it unless you wipe.
Looks cool!

how does the bigger file size affect the animation? Does it run smoother?

It can help for sure, but I doubt that little bit I did would help much. The biggest advantage is to save space, although that's not as important putting it in the data folder. Some folks like to put it in the /system/media/ folder and space there is at a premium.

there are some crappy ones on the market right now, but they suck bad.
Once i get some free time i will be making a true lwp out of this. ie random animation cycles, reacts to phone events ect.

Sorry, I had tossed this file from my dropbox a while back. I'll download the original and optimize it again.
<edit>
I actually took a closer look at this (something I didn't do earlier) and there were some additional ways to improve this besides image optimization. Also, I made it look more like the animation in the op. The original bootanimation file was over 12 MB, this one is only 815 kilobytes
I've packaged it up in an update style type zip that you flash in recovery. This will install it to /data/local. If you need/want it somewhere else (/system/customize for instance) then just extract the bootanimation.zip file from the download and push it where ever you need.

[TUTORIAL] User-Friendly Custom Lock-Rings for Sense 3.0 (EVO 4G)

After going through many of the different lock ring tutorials, I have noticed that they all have something in common: They are too user intensive and prone to user-error. Sure, once you have it down, it's easy. But it can be daunting to start out.
All I have done here is make it EXTREMELY user friendly.
No more copying and pasting into ZIPs and APKs!!
No more fishing around the Templates tree in M10 Tools!!!
Simply run the BATCH file, get a cup of coffee, and then flash!
Here are the detailed instructions... (also in the Read-Me)
0. Make sure you have installed Microsoft .net 4 framework on your machine.
http://www.microsoft.com/net
1. Unpack User_Friendly_Lock_Screen_Kit_v1.04.zip (Where you put the file does not matter anymore!!!! For example purposes, I will use C:\Lock_Ring_Kit)
2. Copy your image into C:\Lock_Ring_Kit and name it LockRing.png
Image requirements:
a. Must be a PNG file
b. Image must be 271 x 270 pixels (If it is not the right size, it will come out looking funny (270x271 WILL NOT WORK)
c. The image must be rotated 180 degrees and reflected horizontally.
3. Double-click "LockRingCreator.bat" and let it do its thing.
4. Flashable.zip was just created for you. Rename it whatever you wish.
5. Copy it to the root of your SD card, boot into recovery, and flash
The BATCH file cleans up after itself. You don't have to go through and delete any of the old files. If you want to make another one, just change out the PNG and run it again. My desktop is pretty old, and the BATCH takes about 2 minutes to run.
I have only tested this on Synergy, but I assume that it will work on similar ROMs. I also believe that it will work on the Thunderbolt (can someone confirm that?)
All files are included in the ZIP.
User_Friendly_Lock_Ring_Kit_v1.05.zip
Error Reporting
This is a work in progress. If you have an issue, please post it on the thread. Also, please copy and paste the output from the command prompt so we can get to the bottom of it. (Right click on command prompt, Select All, the then press ENTER. It is now ready to paste.)
Acknowledgments:
jmaher1023 - I used his process as a template. All that my BATCH file does is automate his process
Flemmard and DiamondBack2010- I have no idea what M10 Tools does or how much trouble they had to go through to make it, but I do know that it is the heart and soul of this whole operation.

I'll try this out, thanks alot dude.
One thing you didn't mention is that the images still need to be 271 X 270 or they won't look right. Other than that this works on Gingeritis3d. (And if I want to say I was the one to create the lock ring I might edit the script) lol. Very good work though man. Very useful tool. Have you been able to find where the images are located for the Amazing sense skin? I haven't found those yet and want to use that semi transparent tool bar at the bottom but dont want to use a different launcher
somehow i cant get it to work ive followed every step but when i run the

dropbox has been the easiest, havent hit a limit yet, except storage space..... which i upgraded to eliminate that problem, all the others i have tried i cant upload anything because they limit file sizes that you can upload, where as dropbox just syncs with your desktop, takes awhile but works.

Make sure that you unzip the files to C:\Lock_Ring_Kit. When I install them somewhere else ("C:\Lock_Ring_Kit______"), I get the same error you do. However, the BATCH file did what it was supposed to do. Since C:\Lock_Ring_Kit did not exist, it created it, and there is a "Working" folder as well as a "Flashable.zip" there. But, since the original files were not in the right place, it is useless.
When the command prompt just flashes, what that means is that M10Tools are not having a chance to run. The only explanation I have for that as of right now is that the files are not in the right location. Also make sure that you named the image LockRing.png.
I'll see about making the batch file spit out an error code, but it might be a few days before I can get around to it. I'll keep yall posted.

[Q] Bootanimation isnt working

Hi,
first of all: english is not my main language so pls be gentle! I also hate writing capital letters, so deal with it or gtfo
I'm using a Google Nexus 5 (big surprise) which is rooted. As far as I know boot animations belong into /system/media and are supposed to be an uncompressed zip.
The content should lool like this:
a folder called part0 (and if u want many more part1, part2 etc.) which contains pictures which should be called sth. like 001.png/jpg
a file called "desc.txt" which contains resolution, fps and how often which folder should be played, looks sth like this: "270 480 20p 0 0 part0"
I found a gif on 9gag (9gag.com/gag/azbG7yN) which I tryd getting into a boot animation. I resized all pictures to one size and did everything I could but didnt get it working.
A few hours later i found this Thread on reddit (reddit.com/r/jailbreak/comments/1wc9qw/mutha****in_request_fulfilled_to_whoever_wanted/cf0npe4) where u can find this gif (i.imgur.com/neYbN4t.gif) and even a .zip (dropbox.com/s/8efy1j7hzuzev2s/GlitchyAndroid.zip) which contains alle the single pictures. I tryd again making a working animation but it looks like I'm to damn stupid for it, I will upload my try and hopefilly someone can tell me where my goddamn mistake is.
Sincerly,
DaPutzy
EDIT: I forgot to say that I downloaded other animations which worked correctly, so its definitely my fault!
Did you set the files permissions to rw-r-r

EDIT: Now im getting a white screen followed by a black one,.. then booting is done.
PS: Nexus 5 got a 1080x1920 screen, but can I use every pixel while booting?

I understand the meaning of this but i have to google how I can change this. At least i got a real Error message for the first time
Common mistakes that people make:
-Wrong compression method: you MUST set the compression method to Store!
-Missing empty line at the end of the desc.txt file: an empty line is needed! Otherwise, the boot animation won't work!
-Frames drawn in wrong color mode: you MUST draw your frames in RGB 8bit or RGB 16bit COLOR MODE!

Alternative boot animations for your L-24(US) honor 5X

Here are a couple of alternative boot animations for the L-24 5X. Like all things with the 5X OS they are completely different to any animations I have made for any other device I have owned and I have only tried them using the install method I will describe.
Although I suggest you adopt my method I do not take any responsibility for any ills that may befall your device.
1) Copy the downloaded animation file to whatever folder you wish on your Ext SD card.
2) Using a File Manager navigate to the folder .... /system/media .... there you will find a file named bootanimation.zip ...... Either delete this file or rename it. You will not be using this file again.
3) Again using a File Manager move the new animation file you have downloaded to the folder .... /cust/hw/usa/media .... there you will find another file named bootanimation.zip, rename this file in case you wish to use it in the future.
4) Rename the new file you have moved there to ...... bootanimation.zip ...... Reboot and you will see your new animation.
IMPORTANT NOTE ::::::: THESE ZIP FILES ARE NOT FLASHABLE ZIPS, DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL BY FLASHING - DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL BY EXTRACTING THE CONTENTS OF THE ZIP FILE - ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS MOVE THE ZIP FILE TO THE FOLDER INDICATED
Please don't ask if they will work with L-21/L-22 variants - I don't have those devices so I am unable to test with them - however if you have "large, round, golden ones" and are willing to try, please help out others by informing us if they do or don't.
When you have renamed your new file to bootanimation.zip change the permissions to what the original one has.
I have included animated GIF's so you can have some idea as to what they look like. I would welcome others to build and publish other anims on this thread, when I have time I hope to add a couple more.
I am on rooted L-22 variant.

Like all things with the 5X OS they are completely different to any animations I have made for any other device I have owned and I have only tried them using the install method I will describe.

Was the process of creating the bootanimation.zip different from the usual method or just the installation? I have made several before (although it's been a while). Just wondering if it's the same procedure.

@wickedesires ... I found virtually everything to be different and gave up trying to understand the method used and just copied the format of the original animation. To give you a brief and quick breakdown, the "desc.txt" file takes on a different format - each "part" file is named differently and when previously making animations for other devices I have always placed it in .... /system/media .... as I've said above this is not the case with the 5X. My advice to you is to download the original animation, break it open and amend it by keeping the original format and just replacing the ".jpg" files.
I would strongly advise testing any you make on your own device before publishing on a thread.

Deleted - Sorry guys/gals for last 3 posts. I had problems in the early morning with both my browsers, hopefully they are resolved now. Will load the new anim in next post.
Back for another attempt...Post#1 applies, don't forget to adjust Permissions. NOTE..... If you are using CyanMod Beta Rom then you may have to place anim in ..... /system/media .

My good friend @clsA ... I was betting my bottom dollar that you would come up with a request like this  :good:
The attached is one I made for my moto G and I've hacked it about a bit and made adjustments, so count this as my first effort. I do have some other ideas which might work but will need a bit of work.
To any one who downloads it, I would remind you that all the previous strictures apply and please note that if you are on the BETA CM ROM or it fails to run, then put it in ...../system/media
As usual the GIF gives you an idea.
OK here is my 2nd "Ghostie" one...... The usual...rhubarb...rhubarb...rhubard apply.

When I get some time to sit and fool with it I'm going to make a few more splash screens and some boot animations to go with them. It's just been hectic the last few days for my personal life lol. @metpolds I dig the new 1s bout to set Mona as mine until I can do those
Red skull bootanimation
Here's my first boot animation. It's stretched vertically to be 1080x1920 full-screen, the original was 1080x608. I also made a matching red version of the skull splash screen (which is in the boot logo thread).
Red skull bootanimation
Here is a less stretched/windowed 1080x1080 version of the same animation.

@wickedesires ... Congrats on the anims, its good to see you won the battle against the 5X's os.
I made a couple more, but due to file size restrictions I can't upload them directly to this post. They are full HD so they are about 30mb each. They can be found here. I cannot guarantee that they will remain there a year from now but I will leave them unless I need the space. As always refer to OP for how/where to install.

[SOLVED] bootanimation replacement results in a blank boot screen, fix?

Update: I found the bootanimation.zip file, and replaced it with a custom animation file. However, that resulted in a blank screen with the Android logo, not the new boot animation.
Then, I tried changing the "desc" text file, the number of frames in the new animation, and the file names to match the old boot animation file, but nothing's working. (Now its just a blank screen on boot, the Android logo is now gone.)
Does anyone have a solution to this?

I'm using the Honor 6x (BLN-L24) running Android 7.0.
So, I'm trying to replace the default bootanimation.zip file with a custom one so that I can have a custom animation on boot.
The problem is, I can't locate where the original bootanimation file is located.
I tried looking where the posts I read about told me to look: "/system/media" but it wasn't there. The only files present in that folder were audio files.
Obviously, moving the custom bootanimation.zip file there (in "/system/media") didn't work.
Then, I tried moving the custom animation file into "/data/local" but that didn't work either.
Finally, I just searched the entire system using root explorer and the only file I found was a "bootanimation" file in "/system/bin" that didn't have any label after it, (ie, ".zip, .png, etc.)
Replacing that file with the custom zip file caused my device to not have a boot animation at all, just a blank screen. It probably wasn't the right file. (I "replaced" that file by renaming it to "bootanimation.bak")
Btw, when I tried opening that file, all I got were a bunch of scrambled symbols and letters.
Does anyone have a solution on how I could possibly change my boot animation/ find the original boot animation file? I think I'm missing something here.

It's inside /cust folder.

It wasn't there either for some reason
Update: I found it in the cust_spec and the product/etc/media folder. Now it's just a matter of getting it to work. (Right now, only the text "Android" shows up on a black screen.)

Sory man. I already forgot the location. I got the bootanimation to change before in my Honor 8 in EMUI 5. @gopinaidu77 do you remember?

I guess it's due to incorrect permissions. You can change the permissions for the zip by long pressing and selecting permissions. Sorry i don't really remember the correct permissions but you can look it up on Google. If that doesn't work either you can use jrummy's bootanimation app from the playstore.

Nevermind, I think I found the error: apparently, I had to delete the folder called "part 1" to get it to work.
Thank you everyone for your time!

do u happen to still have the stock bootanimation file? I accidentally deleted it trying to change it... now I'd just be happy to have the original. I've tried the ones for other Huawei versions to no avail.

Yep, I still have it! Hope this is the file you're looking for.
(Just remember to change the name of the file in order for it to work)

I'm not able to paste the custom boot animation in the folder. It says not enough storage! Root browser by jrummy pastes it halfway till 11MB and rest is not pasted there! And if i try to open that zip file, it just doesn't open up!
One more thing, if a boot animation is around 5 to 6 mb in size, it works without any problem!
Plz help me! I want to use watch dogs boot animation but its bigger in size!

Idk what's exactly causing the error but try other root explorers like mixplorer

[solved] new boot animation fix
If you encounter the error of having a blank bootscreen and Android logo then you must verify the file that you put in /system/media.
The file should contain different folder starting from part0,part,...
The boot animation file should also contain desc.txt file that contains proper display configuration of your device hardware and name of all part folders followed by c and 2 digit 0s and 1s
After all,
One and last thing every part folder should contain many jpg images of same name followed by sequential numbers.
At last change file permission to rw- r-- r-- using any kind of root explorer.
Permission should look like this
https://ibb.co/nj7gkFB
I use es file explorer
