Panoramic Pictures - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Xoom. I am having an issue with my panoramic pictures. I have created different folders on my Xoom. When I connected it to my PC and moved all the pictures to the folders I wanted them in, the panoramic ones are black. All the regular pictures are fine. And I can see the Pan pic on my computer. Just not the tablet. I tried moving one back to camera, and it still is black. I have done this before and those pan picture are fine. I did do an update about a month ago. That is the only thing I can think of that is different. My operating system is up-to-date and I tried turning my tablet off/on. Help, I want these Pan pics on my tablet.

[Q] Can a connected Captivate, stream onto Win XP it's connected to?

I just bought a new Samsung Captivate for Christmas, with AT&T, and unfortunately, it’s still a 2.1, and hoping for an update, really soon. There’s a lot to learn using the Captivate, and so far, I love the quality that is built into it. This is a problem, I don’t yet understand.
I read up on connecting the Captivate and my Windows XP laptop, and found a software that was supposed to loaded on my pc, the Samsung Kies. I downloaded it, but when I try to open it, it goes into an error message about a JIT debugger. Really? Is that a windows thing, or a Samsung thing? But, I left it alone, until last night, I called an AT&T Tech, and after awhile, he had me download another piece, a driver, to make it work. I did, and it now works…, sort of. It’s because of not knowing if it’s an Android ONLY problem, that keeps things from showing on my pc, or is it a compatibility issue, between Windows XP and Android. Let me explain it better.
When I now connect the USB cord between the two, I drop the screen down, and click on connected by USB cable. I then get asked if I want to MOUNT the phone. The Captivate then gives me three options: to either update Kies, Media mode, or Mass storage. Regardless of my choice, I’m not getting everything off my Captivate. If I click on media, my Real Player window opens, and it gives me the choice of music, or snapshots. I can’t understand though, how to choose VIDEO? I want to try and show the identical thing on my pc, that I am viewing on my Captivate. I was using Droid Streamer for the first time, and found Avatar, and when I clicked on it, it showed the movie broke into 5 episodes. I clicked on the first, and the movie started. A beautiful display, showing the movie, awed me. But I quickly thought, if I can see it on a 4” screen, can I see it on my pc monitor? And if I do, will it allow me to send it to my tv? My computer has a tv out, on it’s graphics card, and it allows me to transfer what I’m watching on my pc, to my LCD tv. But trying to get the Avatar movie, to show on my pc, while it’s showing on the Captivate, didn’t work. I simply can’t see video, by what I am trying. I understand, Captivate, is an Android system, while XP, is a Windows system. Is there a compatibilty issue there, that prevents what is showing on the Captivate, to also allow it to be shown on my XP laptop? Or is it an issue, of not knowing how to do it, instead of it can’t be done? If so, where can I find out, how to do it?
Something else I don’t understand, is that there are a lot more programs, on my Captivate, both that came with it, and that I have added, yet XP only shows a part of what’s on the Captivate. Is that normal? And if not, what’s wrong that I need to do differently?
I’m trying to do away with cable charges each month. I recently moved to a new location, and I haven’t turned on the cable. My next buy will probably be a Roku set top box, to stream everything from the web, and leave my pc from doing that. I think I read, that the Captivate I bought, allows signals directly to the tv, from it. But I haven’t tried anything, yet. If I’m right, and can by pass the laptop directly to the pc, I’d no doubt have to buy a special wire, to hook up the two. Am I accurate, that the Captivate can stream programming, like the Avatar movie, directly to the tv? Or am I confused on that? One concern I have that I hope to achieve, is to find free streaming from local network tv. Moving to a new home location, means unfortunately that my over the air HD antennae, doesn’t work very well any more, so I’m missing most of the local news, without a cable or dish contract. But it seems the lack of Android 2.2 for us, and it’s enabling FLASH finally, prevents some streaming services from being available.
Any help or ideas on this, will be appreciated. Thank’s in advance.

(Q) anyone attempted to hook up their xoom to a camera?

So I'm still waiting for the 3.1 update sadly. And I'm curious if anyone attempted to hook up their xoom to any dslr or camera of any sort. This would certainly bring my dslr to a new level.
Yes I have. I've not a dslr but a digital camera capable of using the host function. What do you need to know?
Just basically how it handles the transfer. Do I need a file manager program like astro file manager? Can I specify the directory from and where the images go.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
i pretty much got told i was an idiot in this post, and had my thread hijacked. screw those retards, im doing way more with my XOOM then they will dream of.

i hooked mine up, works great. you dont need astro. it asks to import in gallery. If you want to move your photos around to edit on photoshop mobile, youll need it since galley puts the imports into a "imported" folder in the /sdcard root. photoshop mobile does not look there, it goes to DCIM.
apologies i missed this post but good answer from above there.
and photshop mobile.. is it any good? (partial thread hijack.. )
Also, be aware, it doesn't prompt for overwrites. I was testing it at work doing product photography. I imported the first batch of photos, picked the keepers and started the next batch, another person had disabled the sequential numbering on the camera so deleting the first batch from the SD card reset the counter. Upon importing the second batch, I lost all of my first batch.
Beyond that, it works quite well.
My rooted xoom on 3.1 does not even 'see' my canon 60D (and vice versa) when connected with my OTG cable
I know my OTG cable is fine because it works with all my flash drives, external HDDs, and card reader
Normally when I plug in the 60D to the computer, the camera turns itself into USB mode (cannot shoot photos), but when plugged to my xoom, it appears as if nothing is plugged in (still shoots photos properly)
Works great with pro SLR's!!!
Love it! I plugged my Nikon D3S, D3X and D700 pro SLR cameras into it and my pictures showed up in the gallery!!! This is a HUGE benefit since now I can leave my tablet PC at home and use the Xoom to quick email some proofs.
Now if only the Micro SD slot would work without rooting!
how about connecting usb hd webcam? (if powered from external source...)
is it possible to record videos from such camera?
Using Tiamat and Sony DSLR's hook up no problem as long as you use the special cable. I read that 3.1 will allow usb host too but I do not know how much more or less will be supported with stock vs the Tiamat kernel. Will you still need the special usb cable with 3.1 so that usbhost will work, or will any usb cable work? I know I tried with the Tiamat one and it did not work, which is why I ordered the special cable.
I've a Canon T2i and I can only import pictures as long they are jpgs. Does anybody imported RAW pictures (.CR2) into the xoom? I can't find the directory where my camera is mounted so I can move my pictures manually, it would be awesome if I can see my raw images but at least I want to use my xoom as a storage.
Thanks

Your camera most likely is in a USB Host mode and not PTP mode. I had the same problem with my camera. Its a simple fix just go to your camera USB options and set it to PTP. Also my camera needed power, it didn't when plugged into my MAC.
I have a video that shows this basically works. This highlights all the 3.1 features so I apologize for it not having just a video on that. But to see the OTG Camera Picture Import go to 6:20 in the video.

Hey, I also have a Canon but a 7D, can you try something for me?, hook up the camera, on the gallery go as if you were to import the pics and deselect all, then double click one to view the pic in full screen, now click once on the screen to pull up the scroll at the bottom that shows all the pics, scroll all the way to the last pic (I have about 300 on it) and see if your camera shows an error message 70 Shooting is not possible, bla bla... let me know how it goes.
Thanks
What kind of cable or adapter do I need to do this. Everything I have is used for plugging into my PC and obviously the end of the USB is way to big for this.
Ideas for best video conferencing app?
I'm still waiting for my OTG cable.

Having a similar issues with a rooted xoom running 3.1 and tiamat 1.4.2. as soon as i plug my t2i in it freezes the camera till it is unplugged. while plugged in nothing shows up in gallery to import. tried plugging in a samsung point and shoot also and no go. Trying to look into it further.
update:got bored and went back to 3.0.1 & relocked and got the ota update and my t2i works fine. now to reflash tiamat and see if it still works or if it is indeed the source of the problem.

do you happen to know how to use adb logcat? looking to see what your xoom is doing to access your t2i that mine isn't.edit: never mind i got it. and for your question: raw pictures are stored in a slightly different format for each camera and you would need a program that was compatible with the t2i's format in order to view them. The gallery simply doesn't have that functionality so you won't be able to import them. also, the t2i isn't mounted as a drive when plugged in so you won't be able to access the files directly.
thanks for the reminder, but unfortunately, i've checked many places, but the Canon 60D has no option to turn on PTP... guess i shall need to wait for a firmware update or something

2.2.2 Moray Camera Support

Hi,
Been using the Tiamat ROM (Moray 2.2.2),for a while now and am very happy with the results. However I have recently attempted to attach my Canon 7D via my OTG USB cable and realized that it is no longer recognized. I have tried several other cameras, all with no response. My Xoom (before Tiamat),used to automatically recognize my camera being attached immediately and allow me to copy the pictures/video onto it. My mates Xoom running stock 3.2, recognizes all cameras without any trouble.
Is there any solution to this as I am about to head out on a trip and would like to be able to both backup/review my photos and remote tether my 7D via my Xoom(using one of the available Android tethering apps). I can use a USB card reader, but this will not allow me to tether the camera for taking time lapse sequences etc.
If anyone knows a fix for this it would be great!
Cheers,

Pictures not showing when connected to PC via USB

When I take pictures or screenshots with my Evo, I will be able to see the images with Astro or with the Gallery, but when I connect to my PC via USB it doesnt see the images. Ive tried with the Samba File Sharing app as well and it gives me the same issues. Im running CM7 and whatever the latest nightly is. Ive had the issues on and off for a while. All other files stay on my SCARD, and I have and any reliability issues ever with it. Any Ideas?

Homebrew Pogoplug alternative ???

OK I have a pogoplug. its a small device you plug into your network. you plug in storage (I used a 128gb thumbdrive for example or you can plug in a hard disc)
You install the pogoplug app on you phone and it "backs up" your pics and videos you shoot from the phone to the pogoplug storage space.
all automatically all in the background.
I want to do this but I don't want to use pogoplug. they give me NO control and it requires a connection to their servers. I want to use a homebrew solution that I control (and more importantly I can assign all my photo app folders etc.. and any other folder to be backed up)
SO here is what I am looking for and hoping this exists.
I want to backup from android to android. I have a bunch of S3 (I use them as timelapse camera's) so the idea is I plug in an S3 at home on my wifi network. use an otg cable to jack in a 128gb thumbdrive. that part is all easy.
now for the hard part. I need an app for my other phones that whenever I am on the same wifi network I want it to automatically and transparently back up my pics and video to the 128gb drive plugged into the "server s3" at home. remote wifi backup would be sweet but not required ie if I connect to any other wifi network for example.
any suggestions on how I can do this? I don't want sync. so if I delete pics on the phone I do not want it to delete the backup on the server s3 and I do not want it to copy them back to the phone from the S3.
just copy any pics or any files in any folder I designate TO the server s3 if they are not already their. that's it. transparently in the background.
a tiny widget that is either red or green (denoting not synced and fully synced) would be a really nice bonus. (a tiny 1x1 widget with just a red or green dot to indicate status maybe a third color for "actively syncing"
any suggestions?
