Correct Full wipe - HTC Desire S

Is this procedure correct??
Wipe data/factory reset
Select “wipe data/factory reset” > Select Yes
Wipe Cache
Select “wipe cache partition” > Select Yes
Format System
Select “mounts and storage
Select “format /system” > Select Yes
Format Cache
Select “mounts and storage”
Select “format /cache” > Select Yes
Format Data
Select “mounts and storage”
Select “format /data” > Select Yes
Wipe Dalvik
Select “advanced”
Select “Wipe Dalvik Cache” > Select Yes

Overkill.
Wipe data / factory reset, that's it.
If you really want to wipe system - also "format system".

STEP 1 S-OFF phone,
I have gone here and followed everything to the T..
Here are my steps.
o down by pressing low volume hard key and select “wipe cache partition” by pressing power button, confirm and let it finish.
10.- Then, go down to “Advanced” and select it same way with power button, then, go down to “Wipe Dalvik cache”, select it, and confirm the action,
11.- When done, go back and select mount and storage and perform the next: format cache, format data and format system, then select “go back”
12.- Select now “install zip from sdcard”, then select “choose zip from sd card”.
13.- Go down and select the new .zip file, confirm the action. Let it finish.
14.- When done, select “go back” and then select “reboot system now”.
THE only difference is the ROM im using is CoreDroid_Sensation_XE_V5.1_ICS_RV.

i get the error message on install...
file_getprop: failed to stat

Is it safe to format tablet?

hi.
I have applied several custom ROMs and apparently each install overwrites previous but some folders remain the same.
It's there a way to make sure everything is cleared before installing a new ROM?
What about the format options in CWM?
I'm using nexness pro2 rom, installed with CWM.
THANX
Walter
There should be an option to wipe data in settings. This should have the desired effect.

There is indeed an option to Wipe Data/Factory reset, however this option doesn't seem to delete old folders in the sd card (even the internal storage /storage/sdcard0).
For example, if i have an application installed and it creates some folder in the root of the /storage/sdcard0, this folder will not be removed when I do a wipe. Does that make sense?
I've read that this is how it's meant to be, since some devices don't have an external SD card, so it would be hard to flash a new ROM if sdcard0 was wiped.
That being said, I would ask, is it safe to ADB into it, and then delete everything from there?
Is there any other "better" option to make sure I have a clean/fresh start?
Thanks.
Walter
You can try the hard reset code from the dialer *2767*3855# not sure if it works on the 7.7 though. You could painfully delete items with root explorer, just be sure they aren't being used by your current rom.

These are instructions from a post in the General section. They maybe helpful. Specifically, step six - if you research some of the older posts you find discussions regarding complete wipes.
How to Flash A Custom ROM-
Download a ROM of your choice from the All Things Root section (The Forum you are in) You can find direct links to each of them in the All Things Root Guide that is stickied at the top of this forum.
1- Once downloaded, its recommended to download it from your computer and place it on your phone, put it on the root of your internal or external sd cards. Root meaning not in a folder.
2- Reboot into recovery using Quick Reboot.
3- Using your volume keys to scroll and your power key to select, scroll down tand select "Wipe data/Factory Reset" then scroll to "Yes" and select.
4- Scroll down and select "Wipe Cache Partition" and then select "Yes"
5- Scroll down and select "Advanced" and select "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and then select "Yes" then scroll down and select "Go Back"
6- Sroll down and select "mounts and storage" then scroll down and select ONLY these 3 listed, "format data" and then select "Yes", then scroll down and select "format cache" and then select "Yes", then scroll down and select "format system" and then select "Yes". Then scroll down to and select "Go Back"
7- Then scroll down to "Install Zip From Sd", if you put the ROM on your external SD card select "choose zip from SD". If you put it on your internal scroll down and select 'choose zip from internal". Then after you selected one of those depended on where you put the ROM, scroll down and select the ROM and then Select "Yes".
the rest i am sure you have done before. Hope this helps.

i do the same steps enumerated above whenever i flash a new firmware. in addition to that i also wipe the internal sdcard to remove old folders/files.
take note that you need CWM to do that.
DON'T DO ANY FACTORY RESET/WIPE/FORMAT from SETTINGS/STOCK RECOVERYif you are using ICS because you risk frying your EMMC.

[Q] Phone hangs on CM10 Splash screen after install

Hi there,
I previously had the CM9 Rom on my phone and now I try to upgrade it to the CM10 rom. Unfortunately, this is not working as expected. I've downloaded the CM10 latest nightly build from the download section on the CyanogenMod10 Website and put it under a folder on my SDCard.
Then, here's the step that i'm following;
Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Go to “advanced” and “wipe dalvik cache”.
Go to “mounts and storage” and format system and cache.
Go to “install zip from sdcard” > choose zip from sdcard” > select the ROM zip package. When prompted, select “yes” and flash it.
Wipe dalvik cache
Finally, go back to main menu and select “reboot system now”.
I might be missing something at some point, but can't tell what. Any help on the topic?
Regards,
Benkkei

when I do "format /system", "format /data", "format /cache" and "format /data and /data/media (/sdcard)" in Mounts and Storage Menu .. will that format all the files stored in my phone storage?
when I want clean install ROM... is it enought to do "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition" in general menu and "wipe dalvik cache" in advanced menu?

You probably messed up the kernel real bad... Kernel is the lowest level software can get in terms of H/W communication... Chances are, your phone is a brick now...
you could try usb jig if you cant access download mode. and flash the full rom, including .pit and bootloader.
