My rep clearly told me about this when I upgraded 2 weeks ago,
I guess they didn't bother telling you? This always applies even when opening a line.

Verizon didn't really tell anyone (besides a press release) so it's a surprise for many folks once they decide to upgrade. I'm thinking it's pointless but try your luck.

You might have a decent shot at getting it waived since you weren't made aware of it at the Amazon showroom--all depends on the CSR you speak to.

Use the "valued customer" card along with your monthly "loyalty" charges. Complain nicely and maybe it'll work. What do you have to loose except the time wasted on the call?

I called to protest the fee and they gave me a month's free service. Which for me is triple the crazy upgrade fee in the first place. If the first rep doesn't give it to you, call a couple more times.
Good luck.

If you read the contract paperwork you probably signed without reading...it tells you that you will have an upgrade fee.

In regards to the OP, call them and tell and talk to them to waive it. Its a stupid BS fee, you already have to sign a 2 year contract, basically paying to pay for something. Silly stupidity, but hey..... its verizon..... they gave us a locked bootloader too....

Other US carriers already have an upgrade fee if I'm not mistaken so this isn't a Verizon only thing. This doesn't make me any happier knowing that money doesn't net a return nor directly improve service in my area.

There's an upgrade fee if you don't buy the device at a Verizon retailer. They give you a $30 discount in stores and online, they just want your business. If you diddint get your device directly from Verizon, you loose the discount.

This isn't true since I ordered online on verizon's site and they didn't give me a discount, I even tried to get it wavered by talking to reps on the phone but they just said its mandatory.

The only way you won't pay for an upgrade fee without having to complain is if you have a business account. I upgraded to get the S3 and my total didn't include the upgrade fee and the rep at the store said that business accounts are immune to the fee

Try third party retailers like wirefly.com
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

I called on Fri. to upgrade from a Droid X to S3, not on a business plan, and while they did mention the $30 activation fee they waived it without me even asking.
Also for people looking to upgrade at subsidized price and keep unlimited data, vz reps are definitely still allowing it as I was able to do this on Fri.

question re: selling verizon s3

I'm getting two s3's today. I will be using one and selling one. I am going to use the cash to get my wife an iphone 5 when they come out. Anyway, is it ok to sell it without even opening it, or is the sim card inside somehow tied to my account?
Blasphemy. Why don't you just try to get your wife to use something good?
You can sell it as is, don't need to open it, but why didn't you wait for the iPhone 5 to come out to get it in contract instead? But yeah you can sell it for a good price right now

yep, in the same boat about preordering an extra s3 to save up for the iphone 5.
feel bad for those who didn't think ahead and grab this before unlimited contract renewals disappeared.
SIM isn't tied to your account, but the consensus is you have to open it and activate it first before selling - otherwise you don't complete the 2yr agreement you signed on for when you got it subsidized.
Yes, I had to activate then switch back to the thunderbolt. We did the exchange in the Verizon store to make it easy.

T-Mobile price???

Sorry for the stupid question but how much does this device cost with a 2 yr contract with T-Mobile. The website says 149$ now but is that the final price or will the final price be 50$ after mail in rebate? And is the price gonna drop anytime soon(hopefully on September) I want this phone more than anything right now but 149 is just too damn much for me.

Yea I've had the chance many times but Im hopeful that the Christmas season and the possibility of the HTC one x + coming to T-Mobile will drop the price significantly. My phone upgrade is on the 18th of October so all these will hopefully lower the price to like 50$

Yes with 2 year contract! There is one weird thing that happed. I had an older data plan which had unlimited fot $20. It was before the time when T-Mobile introduced 2G/5 and 10GB plans. On all other phones that I had including: Galaxy S and S 4G, Galaxy Nexus, Nokia Win 7 phone and so on, I was able to use Wifi HotSpot with that old data plan. Now when I got HTC One S, it stopped working and every time I wanted to activate hotspot on my phone, a page would open up, stating that I need to pay for $15 extra... So I called customer care and told them the above story. She told me that my plan is old and about 6 months ago the company started to monitor and charge users for hotspot service. She said I would have to pay $35 total. So at the end I made her do it for $20 for 2 year. So now I have new plan with 5GB+hotspot. I think phones with Android 4+ t-mobile started to block users without hotspot plan. So you know.

Temporary Phone Number?

I just noticed that Best Buy is selling the SIII for $100 today only. My plan was to get two of these at the end of the week (I'm waiting for a credit on my account from Sprint, which I'm switching over from). I definitely would love to save the $200 and get the phones today, but I need to make sure our phone numbers can remain as they are. So here's my question:
Can I buy the phones today, sign a contract with Verizon, and get two new phone numbers? Then have Verizon port our Sprint numbers over to those new SIII's as soon as the Sprint credit is applied to my account? I just don't want to be stuck with new phone numbers. My phone number hasn't changed in many, many years.
Thanks everyone for your help!! I am looking forward to being a part of this community soon!
Just buy them from wirefly or amazon man and there's no tax. I'm pretty sure when you sign your contract you're attaches to whatever number you get for the life of the contract.

They cost $199 on Amazon as of last night. It was $139 prior to that. Sales tax isn't that much - I'll take the $100 price tag and pay the tax.

My experience with wirefly is that your sim is attatched to your phone for the first 6 months... if you do not use that sim they supply you with you can get hit with a hefty charge... and its an automatic charge to the credit card used to make the purchase.. it happened to me.. luckily i was able to get the charge reversed
I've gone through this once before. Just make sure that they've added the number you want to the account before you activate the phone.
If you activate first, and then port over your number later, you'll have to go through the hassle of a new SIM card.

Unlimited Verizon Data plan anyone???

I hope that I'm not out of line posting this in the "general" forum. But I am getting ready to leave verizon so i can get the nexus 4 (and save a little cash on the monthly bills) and I really hate to see these two unlimited data plans i worked so hard to take advantage of and keep for so long just go to waste. Ive still got a little over a year left on the current plan and it has two lines on it, both have the unlimited 29.99 4g data added to them. I would feel silly just letting them go to waste if someone would be interested in assuming the remainder of the contract term. PM me if you happen to be interested. If i'm out of line in posting this then feel free to delete it with my apologies in mind. Also, I havent looked into separating the Lines yet in you only want one but I can investigate the possiblilty if you only need one...
Also go to androidcentral and androidforums. Plenty of people looking for unlimited data

Only time I ever knew this to be different from anyone was with ATT back in the day when they were exclusive with the iPhone they used to pull some crap trying to take the iPhone back even if you paid the ETF if you cancelled in the first...3 months maybe? Been a while so I don't remember for sure.

So I talked to a vzw Rep about getting a new phone and keep unlimited data so we got to talking it's a plan like edge but it's only a 12 month payment plan and not a 24 month like edge all you half to do is go into a Verizon store and tell them you want to put what ever phone you want on a device installment plan and you just pay very little up front and bam you keep your unlimited data and it just gets added to your bill like edge.

You don't need to sign a contract if you're not planning to upgrade. You'll just be a month to month customer with the current plan you have.
How much is the "first payment" for the phone? Is that the $200 that you would see as if you were buying a new plan?

Ha I just got it. You didn't change anything on your contract just got the phone on a device installment plan. I didn't realize that they allowed that. Which means that the Note 3 would be around 60 $ a month for 12 months. That's good to know I'll look into this. Thanks.
