Hi Everyone,
It's been a while since I've been on XDA so for give me if this is in the wrong place. As It covers both devices and is not related to development activities as such I thought this would be the correct location.
Anyway I have had my eye on the TF700 for quite a while then the nexus 7 was released though I am still leaning in the direction of the TF700 but I want to get other peoples opinions on the matter, especially from anyone who has had a chance to use both. So please if anyone has experiance with two device I would really like to hear your comments, and or suggestions.
Also does anyone in the UK now what shops are demoing these devices, i will be checking out my local carphone warehouse this weekend to see if they have the nexus 7 as I don't think anywhere has the TF700 in the UK yet.
Anyone got insider info on what shops maybe stocking the TF700?
Thanks for your time and will see you on the forums.
Cheers
Hey there, I think you may want to put this in Q and A but I think a mod will be about to do it anyway. And there are many threads dedicated to x or y type question.
Welcome back to XDA if you haven't had a welcome back yet.
Anyway, I would say get the nexus 7. Support and updates for that would be through the roof. It is also great value for money.
Sorry If that isn't what you wanted. Hope you enjoy your purchase anyway.

Thanks will ask the question in the thread mentioned above; If a Mod wants to kill this one that be fine by me.
Get the nexus 7
nexus 7!!! obviously
Well answer the question yourself by answering these questions.
Do you want a bigger screen or better portability?
Do you want something with a large memory capacity without anything hanging off it? Or cloud if you have good bandwidth?
Do you want more power for future games ie 1-2 years from now?
What ports do you need?
Do you want frequent updates, and lots of development?
Do you want to spend the extra cash?
Both are good devices, but you're comparing apples with oranges, so pick a fruit

I would pick the Nexus 7.

Hey guys, well when i first got the g2x i couldn't put it down, but it lost it's luster the longer i held on to it, i sold my ipod touch last year and ive missed it since, i also spent a goo $100 in the itunes store, i decided to move to the iphone and the first step was to get rid of my phone, i know the 5's coming out but i cant afford that , and im not gonna sign a contract, i got $300 out of my G2X, which i think isn't too bad, i am currently looking at craigslist and ebay for an unlocked/unlockable Iphone 4 for about $300, if anyone has one hit me up. Maybe once ice cream sandwhich hits and the fragmentation stops i might come back to android, but until then im gonna be on an iphone, i'll keep this updated with my thoughts/regrets if any, did i get a good price, let me know what you think?
why even post this?
i didn't realize i was breaking the law, this is in the general section, it's a discussion that you don't have to read or post anything if you don't like it, no one has a gun to your head.
Seriously, what's the purpose of these I sold, wanna sell, thinking about selling g2x threads, just do it, gtfo, be gone. Good riddance, and go frequent the I phone or sensation forum. Troll.
You got $300? What kind of condition was it in? Reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking about selling mine which is in almost new condition. The only way you can tell its used is by looking at the chrome strip on the battery cover under a bright light. You will then see some surface scratches but other than that, there isn't a mark on it.

I'd sell mine for $600. I'd donate $50 of that to Cyanogenmod team.
I'd also likely flirt with you guys' moms, and if they bought my phone I'd throw in a little bonus if you know-what-i-am-saying.

Hello, how are you?
So, after owning my galaxy Note since April, I've got fed up with toichwiz and flashed CM10 preview. I really like the aosp feel of android.
After living with my note for some time, I really like the screen, the colour and the size.
What I have come to dislike is the general size of the device. At times, when put of the house or the office I wish for a smaller, more practical device to handle with one hand and to take pictures with. The note is just a bit clumsy at times.
So, a couple of days ago a sweet deal came IP and I picked a galaxy nexus.
I now have both devices. My goal was to test them for a few days and then sell the one I liked less...
The thing is I cannot make up my mind.
The nexus is really smooth, excellent os performance and great handling. Mich more practical. The thing is it does not have the note screen. I thing I kind of got hooked on the note screen and am finding hard to let go.
So, in your opinion, which phone should I keep and why?
Hope you can help me to make a decision.
Cheers

Hello,
I've created this thread and named it appropriately [SANCTUARY] for those users that have previously owned a Desire S (and still may do) and have since moved on to to using another device. Anyone who spent time in this forum may as I've done find life outside it a very tedious place.
This was my first Android device, which I still own (as does my wife), I've always greatly appreciated the attitude in this forum and found it a safe, friendly haven especially when compared along side the chaos and carnage that can be found in the other flag ship device areas! We've been fortunate here and have mostly escaped endless trolls, pointless bickering, needless aggressive sarcasm and have historically required minimal need for moderation.
Many of this forums founding and contributing members have more recently moved on to using a variety of other main stream flagship devices (commonly the HTC One X or SGS 2/3 ) no doubt we will all move in time, but, with endless existing Sense ROMs, recently its first Sense 4.1 ROM being released not forgetting AOSP/CM10/AOKP ICS & JB ROMs still being perfected the device has plenty of life in it yet.
This thread is primarily intended as a place where those people who have moved away from the DS can come to ask questions and receive answers without being crowded out or shouted down as I've found to be the unfortunate general behavior in the mainstream flagship forums which are populated by a great deal more uncivilized users.
This isn't intended to be another [OFF-TOPIC] thread, so please continue to use the standard DS OT thread for that [OFF-TOPIC] Desire S Users Hangout Lounge for that.
EDIT: It appears that the moderators have seen to close all OFF TOPIC threads see their justification here.
If this thread succeeds that it should hopefully be inhabited by a large number of Ex-DS users and therefore users who will have a great deal of DS relevant knowledge, so new DS users are more than welcome to come to ask questions....although primarily I'd prefer the Yes/No type questions only, as if your question requires a lengthy response, its probably worthy of its own thread in the Q&A section (so create a new one - but try searching first!).
As an initial starting point, why not attempt to follow the form of brief introduction (although I reckon this will be mostly unnecessary) and let us know what device you are on now and then any question, statement or recommendation you have...
I'll start off -
Hello, I'm Ben (obviously!)
I'm planning on buying an N4 tomorrow night, I won't be alone there as I believe several other current DS users are planning on doing the same, I'm hoping that this thread can become a the haven for us all!
Ben, as enigmaamit said, you shouldn't jump the gun. Wait for a month (or at least a week) and see if there are any major flaws in the device. Not many devices come out without one, and this is LG

I hear you shrome99, but at that price I'm still jumping ship, when you consider that the N4 is Approx £200 cheaper than the equivalent other flagship devices (ie HTC One X+ or i9305) it will have to be significant issues for me to regret it! (famous last words ) Although I won't be daft enough to sell the DS anytime soon, so if there are issues then I'll still have that, although as foolish as it may be I want to be on board day 1 with a new flagship device for a change (much against my my normal better judgement!).
Makes sense It's been getting glowing reviews from all sites, I'm sure it'll be awesome.
Hello guys! Most of you probably know me or at least recognise the name....
DS was my 1st android device which I loved dearly (and still do) although it has now been sold.
Currently I own a galaxy s2 which even though I've had it only 2 months looks as though it will soon find itself on eBay to make way to get mighty N4! However I plan to hold back a week or 2 after release to get a better picture of the real life use of the phone (all his shiz re thermal throttling has got me spooked!) 99% sure I will be getting it very soon though, just awaiting some user fb from new users..... Ben

Do I really need to introduce myself? I'm sure that most of the guys/gals (are there any of those) who come to this thread will know me
The DS was also my first smart-phone and I still have it right now. It's a bit scuffed and I've replaced both the touch-screen and the LCD (butter-fingers), but she means a lot to me and I learnt a lot through playing with her. When I got the DS I was looking at several models, but I'm glad I made the choice I did as it meant I met some really good people on here.
As you probably know, I got myself an LG Optimus 4X HD which I am really chuffed with. I know that it is a locked bootloader, but I was actually after a phone to use as a phone and the contract deal was too good to refuse. I will almost certainly be getting myself an N7 + 3G in the near future as I can't root the company one I'm with Eyahl - it may be a treat to myself as I've got the big 40 coming up in a few weeks :silly:
Hello guys!! Tomorrow night or on tuesday morning I´m going to buy the Nexus 4...
Are you going to unlock the bootloader or root the device? I think it´s one of the first things I do so I don´t have to loose all my data later on.

Within hours of getting it un-boxed! Once I've established that its fully functional wifi, mobile data, gps etc then it's time for the unlock followed by root etc....

Hello, Nah, not exactly, in fact that's the exact question that I've been trying to get an answer to myself......I plan on checking at midnight before I crash, (but am sure that will be way too early) and then again at about 7:30-8am on the 14th with my credit card in hand when I figure they'll be open for business :fingers-crossed:
Let me know via this thread if you get any update......or have any suspicions.
Hey people!
Eagerly waiting for the beast, totally committed to buying on day 1. I won't be selling the DS though, for several reasons. I actually need a device I can splash android 2.3-4.1.1 with to test my apps.
So this will be my main stop thread in a short while...
Thanks Ben!

I'm quite happy with my SGS4G. My wife is as well, but well... she has dropped hers a few more times than she ought to have and it's starting to act funny. (Mine is also starting to act funny, but I think a new battery would be helpful.)
We're both running VB; but we got the text message from T-Mobile that we're eligible for new phones. Whatever that means.
It's worth looking into anyway... suggestions for a new phone?
Requirements:
* Wifi calling (travel a lot)
* Decent developer community
* Preferrably a low price. (Experiences with swappa.com welcome. Never tried that before.)
Thanks in advance!

Friendly Advice....get a list of phones available for your carrier and go to those forums to see how people feel about those phones
The obvious answer is the New Nexus 5. It will be the most supported phone for atleast two years. Or if they have the Nexus 4 in stock pick it up. I dont suggest anything that is not a Nexus device. That said the Moto X looks nice Im sure @bhundven can offer opinions on it.

The moto x is a great phone! It is the only android device that I have that is not unlocked or rooted. But it is that way because I derped on researching and didn't know the at&t version was locked and not unlockable.
At $349 for the 16G and $399 for the 32G, the Nexus 5 brings more value for the dollor... verses $649 for the unlockable developer edition of the Moto X.
The motorola-google merger is still young and I've noticed manufacturing issues with mine, and there are long threads in the moto x subforum about defects that others have noticed with the chassis.
Personally, I'm keeping my moto x in case someone makes an unlocked bootloader for the AT&T version, but my nexus 5 (white 32G) is on order.
A lot of people like the HTC One and the Galaxy S 4 (available on the play store, with unlockable bootloaders).
I think as @kennyglass123 said, it all comes down to personal preference and reading the forums to find out what other users think of the device. Research is your friend; learn from my mistakes

Good to see you finally getting on the Nexus bandwagon lol. I might be picking up the N5 but I have to find a good phone for my kid. Not going to give her the N4 that glass back will not make it a week. That is the only downfall to the N4 .
Hi, I'm from India. I wanted to buy the Nexus 5 but the prices here are higher compared to other countries (US & Australia).
Just for a quick comparison, here are the prices in India / Australia
16 GB = $520 (Rs 28,999) / $399
32 GB = $592 (Rs 32,999) / $449
I'm going to visit Australia for a month, and as you can see above it is much cheaper there. But after reading this forum I found out many people have got a defected phone. So now I'm worried of getting a one as I don't know whether it can get fixed or replaced within a month.
So can anyone here please tell me what are the chances of getting a defected phone and how long does it take to repair it?
Thanks.
Seriously, no one?
I bought 1 phone not defective so by going by that, you have a 0% chance of getting a defective phone. Not accurate though is it? You literally need every Nexus 5 user in the world (ever) to post. Its not happening.
As for returns, ask Google. Often phone manufacturers only accept devices in the region they were purchased, so best to get this info straight from the horses mouth (Google)

who knows the exact amount of nexus 5 devices sold, but you only see the threads containing the bad ones here on XDA and people RMAing. Step back and think about the people that are satisfied. Just like looking at a review for a product. People who get a DOA or a defective one immediately go "NOPE this sucks don't buy because ...." these things happen in production.
Do what you think is right
