[ROOT] Samsung Conquer Method (PLEASE MOVE)

Devs, please move this as my question has been answered and i would like it to be easily accessible to other Conquer owners. Thank you.
I take absolutely no credit for this method.

Here is a quick Guide to Rooting your Samsung Conquer 4G
1. Download Super One Click Root 2.3.1(below)
2. Extract the rar to any location you choice
3. On your phone click Menu, Settings, Application, Development and check USB Debugging.
4. Open SuperOneClick
5. Plug your phone in to the USB
6. Click Root and watch it do its thing
When it is done it should have installed SuperUsers and you should now be rooted.
At this time there is no Roms or Recoverys so the only thing we benifit from is some apps and being able to remove some of the clutter.

My fiance just upgraded to the conquer since it was free and I've been out if work. It doesn't appear anyone is trying to root it yet as there isn't even a sub forum on xda.
Was wondering if I could enlist the help of you fine devs to get this phone rooted. We mainly want root for wifi hotspot so we can cut out internet costs. I know I can just use my hero but would much rather use a phone running 4G.

This would be better suited and answered in the General Forum of XDA. My search of it yields no results in root yet but I'd be patient and someone will eventually. They've already released source code for the phone so it shouldn't be too hard when an experienced dev gets a hold of it.
I don't know of any other Heroc devs getting this phone so that's why I suggest posting this along with the other people hoping to achieve root. This only gets attention of Heroc devs who mostly all moved to the shooter 3vo (me also soon). Plus with ICS development going on most of us have got our plates pretty full. At least i know I do.
Figured I'd post at least something for you since no one else responded.

thanks Matt. I assumed all of the above but I figured id still reach outer to all you guys. Been with you guys for almost 2 years now and know yall are damn good at what you do. Didnt know whether or not someone could use source to try and achieve root with me being the tester.
Now get back to bringing me a beautiful ICS rom lol. J/k enjoying it all for now but moving to Evo 3d in January.

superoneclick should be able to root this. or at least the original GB rom the device shipped with. Havent seen any custom roms tho. and obv no recovery.

mainly need root for wifi hotspot. If it works, the stock kernel should suffice correct?
If it does not work, what are the chances of it screwing up the phone?

i was able to with no questions at all. i have Titanum Backup Root Fully working.
I also tried installing a custom recovery it gave me 2 options Epic and GalaxyS i9000 i tried both just to try with no luck. i might sit down today and look into getting a recovery and or Rom to work but i am not fimilar with doing this but i am still going to try

But also i want a Rom with Sprint ID removed along with the rest of the bloat ware. other then that the phone it self runs great minus a few bugs here and there with some games not booting up or randomly kicking me to the home screen.

there is a recovery but we need a kernel that we can flash with odin before we can flash and recovery's this guy made a recovery called RZrecovery but i cant get it to flash no matter how hard i try

[GUIDE] Getting Started With Your G2x

Yes, this guide is outdated a bit. I lost my job and in between school, 3 kids, and writing resumes, I do not have the time to do the proper research and update this. I apologize for my desertion, however, if anyone would like to take it over, feel free to copy/paste the contents of this post and repost, update, and request a sticky from the mods.
Disclaimer
If you have an LG P999 (Not the P990!) you should not brick while using this guide. If you do happen to brick your device, I will not accept responsibility for it. Nor will I support you. There is more than enough information in our section to fully troubleshoot almost any known problem. If I link to a thread, please read AT LEAST the original post (OP) in its entirety before taking the steps it contains. If a method I linked does not work, please let me know. I don’t have the time to read every post on every thread on every section.
This guide is for Windows users only. If you are on a Mac or Linux box, there may be ways of doing this, but I don’t have any way of testing it. You’re on your own.
Purpose
So you just got the LG P999 (T-Mobile G2x or Wind O2x) or you’ve had it for a while and finally decided to root it. This is an updated step-by-step guide on what you need to do in order to unleash your device.

General Information
This guide assumes you’ve had your phone long enough to have gotten T-Mobile’s 2.3.3 Gingerbread update by now. If you’re on 2.2.2 Froyo, search on how to update to 2.3.3 Gingerbread as it will upgrade (maybe?) your radio as well.
If you are an advanced user and coming from a different phone and are used to different practices, let me break it down for you. The bootloader and radio are already unlocked (or S-OFF, if you will). There are only 2 radios which may actually be exactly the same, but they are not flashable zips. All ROMs are compatible with either radio.
All links are tested and up-to-date as of 11 April 2012.
Step 1: CWM
Install ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) via NVFlash. This should always be your first step no matter what you intend to do with your device. Installing CWM will allow you to flash roms, kernels, etc., as well as recover from minor bricks or bad flashes. DO NOT install CWM via Rom Manager. The following thread will help you install NVidia's APX drivers and flash CWM via NVFlash:
[RECOVERY]CWM-Based Recovery 5.0.2.8 For P999(Internal & External SD)
After completing this step, you will be able to access CWM at any time from a power off state by holding the Power and Volume Down buttons until the white “LG” logo goes away and the blue “LG” logo appears. Release the buttons when you see the blue "LG" logo and wait for the CWM menu to pop up. I recommend at this point that you test it out to make sure it works and that you perform a backup with CWM. Once backed up, copy it to your computer, burn it to a CD, archive it on your tape drive, whatever. It’s just good practice to keep these things in case someone’s link goes down and you really needed that file to return to stock.
Step 2: Decision
Here, you will make a decision:
Are there any apps that you need to save your progress in (for example, Angry Birds scores, etc.) and can’t simply be reinstalled?
If no, skip to Step 4: Flash
If yes, proceed with Step 3: Root
Step 3: Root & Backup
I know, I know. There are apps that can backup your angry birds scores and all that, but this makes reinstalling all of your apps easier. First, you need to download an app to backup your apps. Titanium Backup is my favorite. The price tag seems a little high at first glance, but it’s worth it, especially if you plan on doing this to other phones in the future. Download Titanium Backup from the market, and purchase the PRO key. If you want to go the cheap route, there are alternatives. Next, we need root access. Achieve this by following this post:
[ROOT] G2X Gingerbread 2.3.3. stock ROM with flashable zip in Clockworkmod Recovery
You have a rooted phone and Titanium Backup now. Open Titanium Backup and allow it root access. Press menu, then “batch” and backup user apps only. Never backup system data. You will only get yelled at when people find out that you backup system data.
Step 4: Wipe & Flash
Select a ROM. There are many to choose from (stock Gingerbread, AOSP-based Gingerbread, AOSP-based Ice Cream Sandwich, MIUI). If you’re not sure what you’re looking at, flash one from each category and play with it for 30 minutes to make a final decision. Please read the OP for the ROM you are flashing and follow their directions. If it is not based on the stock ROM, you will need to flash a zip that contains Google’s Apps (gapps). Read your ROM’s OP for the details on this.
When you flash a new ROM, at a minimum, perform the “Wipe Data/Factory Reset” in CWM just prior to flashing the ROM. This will clear old data and cache. I recommend using:
[TOOL] G2x Nullifier [UPDATED!] 26 March Cache only Nullifier!
The dual wipe nullifier is in my opinion, not needed. Single wipe will be fine. Keep in mind, once you nullify, you need to flash a ROM immediately after you nullify! If you reboot after nullifying, you have a soft-brick that should be recoverable, but that’s extra grief you don’t need. So, again, make sure you have a ROM ready to flash on your SD card BEFORE you use the Nullifier.
Step 5: Restore & Enjoy
If you backed up your apps in Step 3: Root & Backup, open up the Market and redownload Titanium Backup and the PRO key (or whatever cheap alternative you decide on) and start it up, granting root access. Press menu, “batch” and restore missing apps with data.
All done! If you want to underclock or overclock or flash kernels, you need to read up on it. They will not be included in this guide.
I am open to *constructive* feedback. If your feedback is “this guide sucks,” move on. I don’t need you here. If you have a legitimate problem with the contents and maybe a suggestion on how to fix it, by all means, let me know. I know there are a couple guides out there, but some are outdated. Just putting a fresh one up for those just joining the game.

Great guide, only issue is in step 3 you say to gain root. The way we gain root is to flash a rom that already has it. I would recommend backing up data before that point us possible (i don't remember if backup apps can be run without root)

Yeah, my original thought was that the oc/uv guide was a little advanced for the level of the guide. I think I will add it though, thanks for the tip!

The root method I linked to is merely a flashable zip with superuser. It keeps the current rom but adds root access so that people can back up their stuff prior to flashing.
I will add the easy flash for cwm for sure though. Thanks for the feedback!

i would highly advise against this...
doing that across roms of the same version is risky, doing it across roms of different versions is down-right mad. it just plops them back into the rom pre-installed with data and everything, bad bad bad idea.

I tried searching about it on google but found nothing so thanks for the reply. Kinda sucks that it would muck with things though :\

I've never done it either. It's tempting to "flash" your old apps back over, especially with the amount of time it takes for Titanium Backup to run, but as Klathmon stated, it's probably a bad idea. Patience is a virtue, I suppose.

That's an interesting situation. I would install the LGMobile Support Tool and see what model it says you have. If I had to *guess* it's a P999 but you should definitely contact one of the other Videotron users and ask them. That is beyond my scope of knowledge, so proceed with caution!

I have connect my phone with Lg software update its detect as p999dw and proceed towards the update process after Update process my phones become T mobile G2X which was videotorn earlier I am thinking of making new thread with all the information i have along with snap shoot

Good guide, one additional section would be a general overview of ICS-based vs GB-based ROMs, advantages of ICS are latest Android OS, but downside is non-working binary drivers for video camera & playback & uses more memory for OS. GB is more functional & stable, but older-style.

GS3DebugFSRoot Bloat Free?

My first post!!!
Anyway, I wanted to know if the GS3DebugFSRoot rooting method removes all the bloat on the phone? Should I just go with this method or should I go the Odin method?

First, Welcome to XDA!
Back to your question, I am pretty sure that the GS3DebugFSRoot rooting method does not remove all the bloat from the phone. I personally think that the rooting method is better than the odin method, because it is faster and is a smaller download (waaaay smaller). However, the root you get from GS3DebugFSRoot is as good as any other root (because of the way root works). You can use that root access to remove the bloat you do not want.
In addition, after using Noxious Ninja's root method, you can use the root you get to flash a recovery to your phone, which you can use from there to flash many roms/mods/hacks/themes/etc such as CyanogenMod

It doesn't remove anything, just adds root/SU.

yosterwp, you lost me there. Isn't here a major thread of bricking or some other damage to the phone if I start removing some of the bloat myself? If I root the phone how would I know what can be safely removed?
Here is a list of what I'm looking for:
I want to be able to install APKs
I don't want any of the bloat from Verizon or Samsung
I would like to us HotSpot tethering
I don't think I need any custom mods
I do would like the ability to set it back to stock (with no trace of it having been rooted if possible)

Whoops! I guess a went a bit ahead of myself in that post. I'll look into your list in the order the criteria is put.
1. Umm, I believe you can install any apk you want even without root access (Go to Settings > Security > Unknown Sources and check the box). Now if the application requires SU, that's a different story and need SU access.
2. [This answers one of your main concerns too] I forgot where I found this thread, but I bookmarked this spreadsheet on Google Docs. It is a table showing what is safe to remove, what's risky to remove, and what you should not remove. However, if you are rooting for the sake of flashing a custom ROM, then you should forget removing the bloat, as the custom rom should be devoid of bloat to start.
3. HotSpot Tethering should already be on your phone without root or anything... Go to Settings > Mobile Hotspot.
3.5. If you are talking about not using that (because your plan prohibits it) --I'd rather not be the one who encourages violating contracts...
4. If you want to return to stock without a trace of being rooted, get ready for a HUGE download. Go to this thread and use your preferred downloading method. And remember to grab Odin from the link on the page. Thank the OP if you can. Then boot your phone into download mode. [(in computer with phone plugged in) adb reboot download] and then fire up Odin. In odin, hit PDA and then navigate to the large download. Finally just to make sure the flash counter appears to have not changed, go to this thread.
You should be good to go from there. I make no guarantee that my instructions will work for you, but it should point you in the right direction. And if you have any questions, let the forum know!

Just have Odin installed and on hand. While the easy root solution is nice, it's still a good idea to be familiar with Odin as you're going to NEED it if you get yourself in a pickle or want to go back to fully stock.

If by recovery tool, you mean Odin, then i definitely would suggest getting Odin and the stock images for your phone. Hopefully you will never need it, but it is always good to have on hand. Familiarize yourself with it, especially if you are rooted.
If you are talking about a recovery partition, that is a definite must have when rooted! You can make complete backups of your phone in case something goes wrong as well. And it can do much more.
Now for the android crash course
If you are talking about developing apps, there is a user on YouTube, mybringback, who does excellent videos on developing apps on android for absolute beginners like me. I am not the greatest Dev (in C++ and Java), but his videos gave me a good foot into Java.
If you are talking about developing for the actual android system, then honestly, I have no clue. Many places will tell you how to download and build the source, but not much else... I am still trying to find a site that explains the source...

The instruction is assumed that you already unlocked and have custom recovery installed. If you provide your setup we can help.
1. Are you unlocked?
2. Do you have custom recovery installed like either twrp or cwm?
3. What os version you are running currently? I assumed you're on JB?

Thanks for the offer of assistance. I bought the TF700 on ICS, and immediately did the following (based on advice I hopefully gleaned correctly from this board):
- Factory Data Reset three times (by booting with the volume key held down, etc.), even wtih nothing personal done to it (like add my name as Owner, or install anything).
- Loaded the full update downloaded from the ASUS site and flashed (correct term?) accordingly. Those instructions, at least, I could figure out.
- Another FDR.
- Used as normal on the current version of JB. I believe it had a minor JB upgrade shortly after that, which I let it perform through the "You have an update" process.
As it sits, the TF700 works quite well for me, but I use Titanium Backup on my Droid Razr Maxx (for which I rooted using one of those "automated root" programs that worked well), and I'd like to use it here. And Root File Manager (also found on the Droid).
As a noob, the instructions for that other method (using CWM and SuperSU) look like they presume too much knowledge on my part of what to install and when, and I'm leery of creating an expensive brick. For example, there is something in there about "fastboot," but that is completely over my head.

It's not that complicated, if you have someone leaded you. Again, I need you to answer the following question, so I can point you to the right direction; Do you plan to use custom rom/kernel? (if yes, you need to unlock your device, which void warantty) or you just want root?

All I want to do is root it. While I know there are some advantages to a custom ROM or Kernel, that's NOT what I forecast doing*. I plan to leave it on JB.
* = Caveat: Eventually ASUS will stop supporting this tablet, at which time I will probably look at custom ROMs if I still own it (and haven't EBay'd it).

Since you already on JB, the only way you could root is to downgrade back to ICS (version .30). Here is general guide line:
1. Download full package firmware .30 from Asus site
2. Then use root tool to root,
3. Download and installed SuperSU to replace the old superuser
4. Download Voodoo OTA root keeper to preserve root (If you have a paid SuperSU version, you just have to click on "preserve root" and it automatically saved root for you).
5. Let the OTA upgrade to JB
6. Once done, use root keeper to restore root.

[Q] Development for LG-LS860

I have a LG Mach (AKA Cayenne, LS860) LG Apparently algo named the LU3000 "Mach" as well for w/e reason. There is a distinct lack of ANYbody developing for this phone. I would like to take on doing it myself, but I am unclear on how to start. I managed after about a week to root the stock rom, but I can't find any recoveries for it. How should I go about this?
I understand that this is a very in depth question and for most, it would be too much to tackle. However, I have a background in C++ and Visual Basic (though I am a little rusty). Any direction would be nice and I am willing and capable of learning anything necessary to accomplish this.

Well this is a combination of bump / information. Since there is a lack of information regarding this phone out here, I figured I would share the method I used to root this phone. It works on the stock 4.0.4 rom.

I just won this phone, and I'm putting the term LG MACH ROOT/LG MACH BOOTLOADER in this thread so people can find it via google.
There is pretty much no developer love for this phone...
I don't care which way you do it. Personally I prefer TWRP because of it's touch controls.

Im going to compile TWRP tonight for it, and if all goes well, I will create a new thread with the rooting method and recovery explained. However, know that you will officially be person #2 to use this recovery image. All warnings and potential problems will apply.

I haven't got the phone yet actually. Briefmobile informed that I won and that sprint will ship it. I don't know anything more than that :/ I hope soon. It'd be fun to mess with the phone while my college break is going on still.

All good, it takes time to develop these things anyways. I should have a stable TWRP build within a few days, and a CyanogenMod 10.1 (Android 4.2) build complete in the next couple of weeks.
The bootloader is something I am going to tackle tonight. As you can tell, there is zero documentation on the web for this device. In fact, it received more attention when it was a concept than it does now. So for now, I have no answer on the bootloader. I hope so, or all my work is useless lol. However, root is obtained at a bare minimum
Anyone out there that comes across this thread that wants to find information on modding this phone, PLEASE post your interest here. Trust me, you won't find any other resources.

lg locked bootloaders
I have the lg motion, I don't know how close it is to the mach but I've been following a thread for several months that has been trying to figure out a workaround for the locked boot loader. Google all things root guide for lg motion and you might be able to find a decent starting point for your phones maybe even help them figure out the motion

Ok, well I think, for now at least, root is all we are getting . I have managed to develop and compile ClockworkMod Recovery TeamWin Recovery, and Cyanogenmod 10.1 for it, but realized after all that work that the bootloader is not only locked, but also signed with a digitally encrypted key. Basically in laymans terms: We are ****ed. So, if anybody manages to shmooze either Sprint or LG out of these unlock codes, let me know and I'll provide everything else. Otherwise, anything I have made will brick every LS860 it goes on. Sorry guys.

Oh boy is like Motorola all over again... So no flashing recoveries even?

Thats correct. At least from my understanding. I could be wrong, but without the ability to unlock the bootloader i dont want to try flashing recovery. Too risky for me. Ill give anyone who wants to try my twrp build but i wont accept any repercussion for it doing anythin negative

I just rooted it. Was super easy.
Tried adb reboot bootloader. Did nothing. Tried adb reboot recovery. Recovered the device. Can't seem to figure out a way to have it download software. (like nvflash) Wonder if there's a special cable...

So I already bricked two, lol. Not going for a third. I really wanna root this phone. I went as far as getting the firmware which is a cab file. But then I guess you have to convert that to a kdz file. Then decrypt the kdz file. Well it appears you need to be an LG Service tech to use the program. Was hoping there was work around for all this,

I rooted it, it was easy using the sony tool that does the adb backup remount bug, but that's as far as I got. I uninstalled a bunch of crap off of the system partition and its a lot faster now, too bad I can't get that activation screen to go away.

Just pulled the newest OTA. I found it in /cache. I tried to get the URL but instead I made it so it no longer sees there's an update... I have the zip file however, and inside of it there is patches to just about everything in system, and updates to magazines, chrome, and LGBookmarksProvider.
There's also a command to install a recovery image:

/sbin/write_recovery /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
Not sure if it's a good idea to flash that... forgot that it's still locked bootloader
EDIT: Finally figured out download mode... I just held all the buttons down when starting it and voila, it's there. I also hear you can use the LG Software update tool to flash back to stock, so we might finally have root that's safe

Does anyone have the BooksTablet.apk found in /system/app? I'm not sure why but it won't install the update cause the sha1 of that file fails I don't know where to find it.

Can someone rip me their BooksTablet.apk and BooksTablet.odex from their LS860 and PM me a link to it? I really am pissed off at the update prompt (I'm not sure why it's not working, I haven't touched it and I made sure I backed everything up... It won't validate BooksTablet.apk) I'm on the stock original version of the software ZV6 or something... not the ZV7.
I really don't want to go into sprint that much, though I might have to do that soon.
Edit: Just called sprint. They won't do anything for me and I'm not going to pay money for someone to reflash my phone. It's pretty ridiculous how factory images for devices aren't released. You know how many issues this would solve? That's why nexus devices are great. They're practically unbrickable.
