WIFI on JB - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
just got the TF300T and did the Jelly Bean update and the WIFI speed is really bad. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? It am trying to transfer a 4Gb video file and it is taking like 2+ hrs to transfer it

My wifi appears similar in performance to ics. Have you run any apps like speedtest both before and after JB?
Still Charged Up

Thanks
I ran Speed Test and everything seems good and when transfering smaller files (mp3, jpegs) they transfer in a decent amount of time. it appears that the issue is with larger file sizes they take forever...4Gb mp4 file took 3hrs to transfer with with Tablet sitting right next to my wifi router

It is not a problem with wifi speeds, it is a problem of i/o the transformer series suffer from bad writing and reading speeds of the internal drive. JB made it a bit faster than ics but its still lagging behind other devices.

Using Wifi / Bluetooth at the same time. How is the performance

Question on if the Infinity's wifi uses the same antenna as the bluetooth? Does the download speed suffer like the Prime? Streaming music using wifi and bluetooth to my jambox from my Prime is so horrible I sometimes just feel like selling it to get the Infinity. Only if it uses 2 antennas cause I don't want to spend extra money if the infinity suffers from the same problem.

Yesterday i streamed from webradio and spotyfi, using jambox. I didn't have any problems with that.
But, using mxplayer playing from internal storage and streaming to jambox i did get a delay, out of sync.
So the delay may be there all the time, but hard to notice on just music alone?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
Getting delays doesn't mean that you're tablet is broken, it may be the device that you're streaming to, on my laptop I stream music lag free, on my dads I get a 1 sec delay , but WiFi seems to eat a lot of battery

Earlier today I tried to transfer a 250 MB SGS2 ROM file between my SGS2 (target) and my Infinity (source). It was slow as hell, and I ended up using my FTP server in between. I tried it with WiFi both enabled and disabled, but didn't see any measurable transfer speed differences. I do not own a bluetooth hedset or speaker set, so I cannot test that scenario for you, sorry. (Does the I/O choking sometimes not hamper this, as well?)
Thanks guys. I get a slight delay using bluetooth to my jambox while playing movies and games aswell. The closer the jambox is the delay gets shorter.
Just need a couple more guys to test the Bluetooth and wifi out for me. Might just wait around till someone opens up an infinity.

Have you tried different movie players?

I use the old dice and the vplayer. Thanks for the help but I just sent my prime back for a refund. Not just for this reason but the constant wifi shutting off by itself.
Looking where to pre order an Infinity. But until then I'm tabless
At least I was able to return the prime thanks to Ebay buyers protection.

Are you gonna get a new one since that is definitely a defect?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
No. I'm just gonna take my money and wait for the Infinity. I'm done with the Prime. I started getting glitches and my task bar would disappear almost like a devolving away effect. I got lucky Ebay honored the protection plan. The seller didn't want to give me a refund since it was 2 days passed my return policy. Its a sign to wait for the infinity.

Q: wifi speeds problems

Hello, i havent had this for long but im noticing lag while on wifi. I watch movies and youtube and the connection sucks. Im still not sure if i will keep it because if not i would root it and flash a custom rom and kernel but just wondering if this is common with this tablet of maybe its just my connection. My link speed is 54Mbps so it shouldnt be a problem

54mpbs itsn't really that high, your practical output is more near 2-3mbits.
I have 300mbits and i can easily stream full hd from my nas to my tf300t and tf300tg. Tried to set the pad to full speed?
Yeah i turned up to performance. With my cell i never have problems and there are times where the speed is fine on the laptop. I havent had to increase my Internet Speed
Dont know

Sluggish performance

So i just got my new pad and have been playing with it, closing, opening apps, and web browsing. I have found the tablet to be sluggish opening apps or responding to keyboard input in chrome. I didnt recieve any update when i first turned it on. Is there anything i can do?

What software version are you running? Did you click on check for update in the about section?

You are not on Power Saving mode, are you?
Power Saving mode saves battery but makes whole process stutter especially opening application you can see frames stutter and wish you had Buttery smooth Jelly bean there. But on balanced mode, I don't notice any and not sure if Jelly bean would do anything there... as it is already so smooth.
But as far as browser, if you have many applications running behind that may cause keyboard input delay. If not, recommend Cold reboot.

No matter what might go wrong in life the absolute very first thing I wish for is buttery smooth jelly bean. Just last week I was complaining about the price of gas and it made me wish for buttery smooth jelly bean.
I made sure im in high performance mode and checked the updates. Im running build # 9.4.5.22 with android version 4.0.3.its just discouraging since my galaxy nexus is so smooth. Im hoping a good rom comes out soon

I have the same problem as you as well as others. I'm on the updated firmware and am incredibly disappointed. I've been supporting Android since it was first released and absolutely love my Nexus phone. I've had a few Android tabs and they have all been lacking. I finally did something I swore that I would never do and used an iPad. I really didn't like it except that it operated so smooth and didn't crash. I ran out and bought this tab as I hoped it would work better so I could ditch the iPad. Unfortunately, my infinity lags when loading pages and Gmail, crashes when watching movies and Gmail, and refuses to open desktop version of websites. I am going to wipe and reload one more time and if it doesn't work, I will have to send it back. I really really want this tab to work.

You want to update to .26, tablet is so much better after update
Huh, after updating I thought this was the only non_lag android tablet I've used besides the Nexus 7 which is even faster. I've also not had force closes and the Primes browsing was ruined by that. Of course it has other issues because that's how Asus rolls.

no. mine came with .21 and i wasn't getting .26 OTA. you download it from the ASUS site, unzip it and put the resultant zip on the root of an sdcard. slot the sdcard in and you'll get an item in notification that there's an update available. bam.
search the forum for detailed instructions.
THAT SAID - although .26 is MUCH better than .21 IME, i still have performance issues with the 700. not so much that it's sluggish - but that the digitizer just stops accepting input periodically. it's definitely a software problem and it's definitely frustrating. haven't sussed out any culprits yet.
doody.

Apparently, dolphin is a bigger botnet than chrome. And that's saying something.

By botnet do you mean the tracking? I mean, we are on Android, it exists for Google to increase their ad information capabilities. It is what it is.
I don't use their sync service, and I don't like their regular browser at all but the new Dolphin beta is pretty amazing. It might be the fastest mobile browser I've ever tried.

Does your WiFi suck too?

This is my second Asus tablet. I still have a TF101 that I've used for the past 16 or 17 months that had this same problem. That problem is WiFi connectivity. As I type this I'm sitting about five feet from my router and have, at maximum, a 19Mbps WiFi connection on the TF700. I've seen it as low as 5Mbps.
I can't even stream HD Youtube videos on this tablet without it buffering literally every 3 seconds of playback. And that's five feet from the router. Meanwhile, my Galaxy Nexus will play the same video in HD from multiple rooms away with no pauses for buffering.
I've read complaints in the past about Asus tablets and their connectivity issues, but I was under the impression that this has been resolved with the plastic strip at the top of the device.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
No issues for me. I stream from my pc at about 30 feet away and still dont experience these issues. I have fios. and my speeds are pretty damn good.

I'm on a 24Mbps internet connection, so I know that's not the issue. And as I said, my Nexus streams everything just fine. This is really frustrating...
Your issue sounds like it's all you. The WiFi has vastly improved since the TF201.
None with mine.
Way way better than my tf201. With YouTube I have a better connection on the web than I do with the app.

Absolutely no issues!!! Loving it!
Nope, mine is actually running better than my nexus. Getting 22meg download speeds on my T700, Galaxy Nexus, just a tad less. Was constantly getting buffering on my TF201 but not the TF700. I am about 30 feet from my router.

Workin' good here
Steady good connection thru a coupla walls...
Mine is fairly consistent, no drops, but not the best speeds. I have a 50mbps connection but can only get about 25mbps down on the Infinity. My Galaxy Note gets much better speeds because I can utilize the 5ghz spectrum on it.
I know - quit complaining.... lots of people would love to get 25mbps download speed
What keeps me happy is that I can now watch You Tube with no lag or buffering at all. Never could do that with the prime.

I am using WPA2-PSK encryption and my wifi is awful compared to my laptop.
I have 90-95Mbit/s on average on my laptop while my tf700 gets between 15-25Mbit/s.
So no, it's not just you!

Again - this does not indicate a problem - the wifi in the Infinity is not supposed to be as fast as the wifi in your laptop! The max speed of the wifi hardware in the Infinity is 65mbps (actually, I've read one report of someone getting up to 72Mbps), but most laptops have 300Mbps wifi cards.
Of course it's not going to be as fast as your laptop.... Has to do with the number of antennas, etc...

Where would you need any more speed than that in tablet use?
Even if you downloaded some bigass 'linux distros' using torrents, wlan technology is least of your concerns to get same speeds than desktop/laptop.
I have 200mbit internet connection and i wouldnt even think needing 1/4 of it for tablet
For OPs question: Havent tested my speeds yet but signal is excellent even from htc sensation tether!

To answer the OP's question: Yes the wifi speed does suck, but apparently that's to be expected on tablets.

It does not "suck" - it's appropriate for the devices expected usage. There is a big difference.

I have a Linksys E4200 and i am outside of my house, by the water, about 60-70 feet away from my router and i get one bar, but that more than enough for streaming HD videos on youtube and 1080p videos off my NAS without lag. So yes, this issue sound specific to you and since you've had the same with your tablet, im guessing it's youre router.
Change channels? dont thinl it'll do anyhting but youve got nothing to lose

Torrent

uTorrent has been released for Android (beta). Unfortunately, at least for me, ANY torrent app completely lags the tablet to the point where I consider it unusable. I don't have an sd card. Has anyone tried any torrent app and downloaded files on to an external sd card? I want to know if it lags like that as well?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T
i use Adownloader, and it is capable of downloading to the memory card. While downloading 4 files at one time, i was able to do other things on the tablet without issues.
try ttorrent. Also, when you want to search within the app you will need to dl a plugin, but I've never had problems. It doesn't do a great job of correcting spelling, etc. but more or less solid all around.

What speeds were you getting? My tablet was already unusable when I was downloading at my max speed (6mbit/s). However, when I'm transfering files between my laptop and my tablet (at 20mbit/s) the tablet is not unusable, but not fast either... Is this all because of the IO issues?
Yep, just got the same problem with torrent and internal storage, it's the same with ttorrent btw.
Envoyé depuis mon ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T avec Tapatalk
You should try using aTorrent - i have downloaded stuff onto the tablet without any problems + it's free.
My formula: aTorrent + isohunt.com = works
I haven't downloaded several files at the same time but it worked fine with one file downloading + using a couple of other apps.
I've used every torrent app out there, and they all lag my device when I'm downloading.... Are you downloading to an external sd card?

Alright I am convinced to buy a microSD card just for this reason. Kind of stupid I have to do this, the IO problems really shouldn't be there, but alas. Thanks... Now if only someone could tell me if my Samsung Captivate supported 64gb cards...

The new version of atorrent allows downloading to the card. And I did not experience any lag.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
Every torrent application will lag your phone/table it you're downloading to your primary SD Card. This is becase Androids needs to preallocate the full size of the downloaded files. So when Android zero filles 2Gb of files, then the read/write speed for other applications on the internal storage will drop, thus you'll get a lot of lag. Once the preallocation is over the phone comes back to live again (that is if you're not downloading with +10Mb/s speed of more).
Only way to avoid the lag is to have an external SD Card and download to it. BTW you can try my new torrent application TDM. Maybe it'll suit your needs better? (it has no problems with downloading to extarnal cards and it has a file manager to allowes you to manage the file on multiple cards with ease).
