Q: wifi speeds problems - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i havent had this for long but im noticing lag while on wifi. I watch movies and youtube and the connection sucks. Im still not sure if i will keep it because if not i would root it and flash a custom rom and kernel but just wondering if this is common with this tablet of maybe its just my connection. My link speed is 54Mbps so it shouldnt be a problem

54mpbs itsn't really that high, your practical output is more near 2-3mbits.
I have 300mbits and i can easily stream full hd from my nas to my tf300t and tf300tg. Tried to set the pad to full speed?

Yeah i turned up to performance. With my cell i never have problems and there are times where the speed is fine on the laptop. I havent had to increase my Internet Speed
Dont know

Google Talk sucks!

Any way to fix this? The video is so choppy even with great connection on both sides and i can barely understand the audio. Am i the only one experiencing this? If not, is there a better alternative for video chat?
I just did it once to test it out with someone on a MacBook pro and it was pretty clear and smooth.. maybe cuz we were on the same network?

if possible, try it with 2 transformers. i also tried it running on the same network (15 mbps / 2 mbps) and it's still horrible.
I don't like how there's no SMS and texting support

i just tried it between a d1 Bluetooth tethering to the transformer and my other d1 at home on 3g. Everything smooth.

5Ghz Wifi capable or not?

Hi there,
i just got my TF300T and i'm quite happy with it (coming from LG Optimus Pad it's no wonder ).
But i have one question/issue where i can't find an answer for:
I have a Netgear Router which is capable of using 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz Wifi simultaniously. Now i can connect my Transformer with the 2,4Ghz without any issues and everything works fine. But if i have a look into the Wifi list on my Transformer i can see the 5Ghz connection but it alway states that it's out of reach.
Is the Transformer Pad capable of using 5Ghz connections or not? If yes, what is wrong with my pad?
Thanks for any replies

I dont even see the 5Ghz option in my wifi list. I don't think its capable but I wish it was. I have a toggle in the wifi settings on my gnexus so I connect that to my 5Ghz.
No......
Yeah no 5ghz

Do you have more than 30mbit Internet connection? What is it that your doing that needs that much speed? The range on 5ghz is lower... I'm curious.

1080p movie streaming locally for one. I'm kinda pissed there's not 5ghz support for that alone.
actually a very very very small percentage of tablets have that support. The main accepted one is the 2.4Ghz band.

Well, for fast transferring of files, HDTV streaming, etc.
I watch 1080p with no problem... I just copy it to my 32gig sd card or use wifi file explorer pro and copy it to the internal storage... I get around 4.5 megabytes a sec transfer...

Streaming Netflix using Bluetooth headset

Has anyone attempted to stream netflix while using a Bluetooth headset? When I tried this netflix bufferred every 20 seconds or so and when it wasn't buffering, the video was choppy and audio was not in sync. Using wired headset it worked flawless.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
Holy [email protected] I thought I was the only one who realized this. I wifi netflix and bluetooth to Jambox and it sucks. Buffers a lot and delayed sound. It even happens when playing a game with the Jambox connected. I take the bluetooth off and it's perfect.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
I can't even use the Netflix app because the interface is sooooooo slow. It literally takes five to ten seconds to respond to touch inputs and when I try to scroll through lines of movies/shows, my finger travels the entire screen and the row moves only one or two places over. It's really annoying.
Apparently enabling forced GPU rendering in settings -> developer options will help with Netflix performance. It might cause issues with other apps though, so keep that in mind.

This is the same hardware problem that the prime had. You may notice it on you tube as well. It's because bt/wifi share a antenna. That said I did play around with mine for a few minutes and did not have the problem. Granted I'm sitting pretty close to the router. Check this out.... run the netspeed app to see what you get with bt off. Then start streaming some music to your bt headphones for google music and run netspeed while it's streaming. You will probablly notice a signifcant decrease.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
What was mentioned about sharing the same hardware with the wifi/bt in the prime is correct. They use the same chip to decode both signals. So when both are being used at the same time the process slows down for both signals. This is a common occurrence among many portable devices and not just any Asus tablet. I've seen it on my cell phones also. Manufactures are moving to this combined chip process to save in both cost and shrink the size of the devices for smaller cases.
Now having said that, these chips are designed to function with both signals at the same time. If yours is experiencing horrible performance then return it for another. Don't wait for software fixes because they won't fix the hardware. It might improve but chances are higher it won't be fixed. If you wait your return for exchange window may pass.
Iust got an email from B&H about the issue and they said I can get a refund or exchange but they dont know when they are recieving the next batch. Im probably gonna get a refund and buy one elsewhere. Sucks
Does anyone have a Tf700 that actually streams movies over wifi and bluetooth to speaker, ear buds or anything successfully. I don't want to wait for an exchange if no one can successfully accomplish it.

I just did a wifi speed test without bluetooth on and my speed was 28mbs
With wifi on and bluetooth streaming music to my jambox the score dropped to 0.39mbs
That's crazy.
I used the speedtest.net app.
And enabling the gpu in the developer section didn't make any difference.

I am also getting tons of lag and constant disconnects/buffering when trying to watch HBO go or netflix over my stereo Bluetooth headset. I was wondering if there were others that have successfully gotten video to play while using a bluetooth headset other than that one poster. Is it just a defective unit that I received or are other people experiencing the same thing? Do you guys think its worth going thru the trouble of returning the tablet? I guess I am mainly trying to estimate the chances of getting another tablet that has the same issue.

I think any hardware issue is worth going through the trouble for. If you paid $500 for the tab, you might as well ensure everything works. The software can be fixed through official and third-party options but the hardware won't get any better.

Thanks for the reply. Yea, thats pretty much what I was thinking. Its just that the 64GB model is sold out from Tigerdirect and I didn't want to go w/o a tablet until they got them in stock.
B&H is trying to convince me its my router. They say 28mbs isn't fast enough to stream wifi and Bluetooth at the same time. Streaming wifi has nothing to do with Bluetooth. I asked them to make me a RMA tag so I can ship it back.
I'm waiting for their response. If it isn't enough can someone tell me. I don't want to get the same problem I had with the prime.

Can someone run a speedtest on their wifi and then on the wifi while streaming sound to a Bluetooth device to see if there is a drastic decrease in download speed.

Have you tried calling 1-888-678-3688 for help? Its asus' support line. I was told to call that from tigerdirect before they could issue a return. I won't be able to call until after work today though because I forgot my tablet at home >.> But maybe they'll have something to say regarding the matter.
I just called the number and spoke toa Asus representative and here is what they told me
" The Asus Infinity TF700 is not designed to do this because the antenna will cause interference with each other since they both run off the same antenna."
WOW I can do this on my G2x. This disappoints me.

This is how the 300 was advertised. One at a time, not both. I had this problem horribly on the prime. On the infinity I drop from 28mbs without bt to 10 with it. I'm still able to stream just fine so far.

Does your WiFi suck too?

This is my second Asus tablet. I still have a TF101 that I've used for the past 16 or 17 months that had this same problem. That problem is WiFi connectivity. As I type this I'm sitting about five feet from my router and have, at maximum, a 19Mbps WiFi connection on the TF700. I've seen it as low as 5Mbps.
I can't even stream HD Youtube videos on this tablet without it buffering literally every 3 seconds of playback. And that's five feet from the router. Meanwhile, my Galaxy Nexus will play the same video in HD from multiple rooms away with no pauses for buffering.
I've read complaints in the past about Asus tablets and their connectivity issues, but I was under the impression that this has been resolved with the plastic strip at the top of the device.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
No issues for me. I stream from my pc at about 30 feet away and still dont experience these issues. I have fios. and my speeds are pretty damn good.

I'm on a 24Mbps internet connection, so I know that's not the issue. And as I said, my Nexus streams everything just fine. This is really frustrating...
Your issue sounds like it's all you. The WiFi has vastly improved since the TF201.
None with mine.
Way way better than my tf201. With YouTube I have a better connection on the web than I do with the app.

Absolutely no issues!!! Loving it!
Nope, mine is actually running better than my nexus. Getting 22meg download speeds on my T700, Galaxy Nexus, just a tad less. Was constantly getting buffering on my TF201 but not the TF700. I am about 30 feet from my router.

Workin' good here
Steady good connection thru a coupla walls...
Mine is fairly consistent, no drops, but not the best speeds. I have a 50mbps connection but can only get about 25mbps down on the Infinity. My Galaxy Note gets much better speeds because I can utilize the 5ghz spectrum on it.
I know - quit complaining.... lots of people would love to get 25mbps download speed
What keeps me happy is that I can now watch You Tube with no lag or buffering at all. Never could do that with the prime.

I am using WPA2-PSK encryption and my wifi is awful compared to my laptop.
I have 90-95Mbit/s on average on my laptop while my tf700 gets between 15-25Mbit/s.
So no, it's not just you!

Again - this does not indicate a problem - the wifi in the Infinity is not supposed to be as fast as the wifi in your laptop! The max speed of the wifi hardware in the Infinity is 65mbps (actually, I've read one report of someone getting up to 72Mbps), but most laptops have 300Mbps wifi cards.
Of course it's not going to be as fast as your laptop.... Has to do with the number of antennas, etc...

Where would you need any more speed than that in tablet use?
Even if you downloaded some bigass 'linux distros' using torrents, wlan technology is least of your concerns to get same speeds than desktop/laptop.
I have 200mbit internet connection and i wouldnt even think needing 1/4 of it for tablet
For OPs question: Havent tested my speeds yet but signal is excellent even from htc sensation tether!

To answer the OP's question: Yes the wifi speed does suck, but apparently that's to be expected on tablets.

It does not "suck" - it's appropriate for the devices expected usage. There is a big difference.

I have a Linksys E4200 and i am outside of my house, by the water, about 60-70 feet away from my router and i get one bar, but that more than enough for streaming HD videos on youtube and 1080p videos off my NAS without lag. So yes, this issue sound specific to you and since you've had the same with your tablet, im guessing it's youre router.
Change channels? dont thinl it'll do anyhting but youve got nothing to lose

WIFI on JB

Hi
just got the TF300T and did the Jelly Bean update and the WIFI speed is really bad. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? It am trying to transfer a 4Gb video file and it is taking like 2+ hrs to transfer it
My wifi appears similar in performance to ics. Have you run any apps like speedtest both before and after JB?
Still Charged Up
Thanks
I ran Speed Test and everything seems good and when transfering smaller files (mp3, jpegs) they transfer in a decent amount of time. it appears that the issue is with larger file sizes they take forever...4Gb mp4 file took 3hrs to transfer with with Tablet sitting right next to my wifi router
It is not a problem with wifi speeds, it is a problem of i/o the transformer series suffer from bad writing and reading speeds of the internal drive. JB made it a bit faster than ics but its still lagging behind other devices.
