How to revert from ICS Europe stock ROM back to GB? - HTC Desire S

Hi guys, I have a problem with reverting back to te GB stock european ROM. Today I updated to ICS from the RUU. My phone is factory condition, no root or s-off, unbranded. I used the latest european GB RUU but is giving me Error 131 or 155. Tested all the euro ROMs with the same result. Is the new ICS RUU changing the bootloader? Or the new partition is the reason not to be able to switch back to the stock GB european ROM? I just don't like the ICS and wanna go back to GB! Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Temproot your phone using whatever you want, change your misc_version to the oldest one or according the RUU you want to install. Then run the RUU.

Thanks! I tried to do it but without success:

Any ideas anybody? It looks it is not working for ICS...

Maybe with tacoroot, search the thread "downgrade to old hboot without using htcdev V2" if you dont know how tacoroot works.

I do NOT like ICS also... My phone's animations doesn't look very smooth..
I really don't understand why peoples are so happy with this update..
If you will find a method to revert to GB please post it here!

Unfortunately none of the methods are working right now for stock phones. I hope soon somebody to find the way. I don't want to play with my phone to s-off and so on... Will wait.

Well, you could unlock the bootloader using htcdev and then install a custom ROM, apply misc_version, relock and run the stock GB RUU?

Hello I'm new to installing Custom ROM's perhaps you could tell me if i'm right or wrong - after installing official ICS from HTC RUU I can still instal any custom ROM (like ICE_DS) by unlocking via HTCdev, installing CWM and gaining ROOT - all of those with the same methods as for GB guides? Is that all I need ?

You don't need root before installing a custom ROM.

now noticed in ice_ds requirements;
If you are coming from a stock rom there are many requirements, but first of all you need to S-off your device and you will also need a custom recovery....Look HERE for a guide on how to do this. Should your device have a newer hboot version then unfortunately this guide will not work and for now the only option available can be found HERE. ICE DS ROM have the 4EXT custom recovery included, but for initial setup purposes please follow the guide.
In order to install an ICS based rom you will most likely have to update your device's firmware.

but i can tell you that:
- unlock bootloader by htcdev (just unlock, no need to s-off)
- install recovery

- root if need

i meant if that's what i needed after all (meaning after what you've told me to do). Ok i'll keep your advise in mind, also EXT4 is better or worse comparing to CWM ? I've read somewhere that it gives faster user experience comparing to the same rom flashed both ways.

what you need after all is custom rom installed, right?
with unlocked bootloader, you can install custom recovery (I'd preferred 4EXT, but CWM also OK)
with custom recovery, you can install custom rom and root the device
that's all

radio yes. but regarding the kernel you can, i.e., you must flash it via fastboot (e.g. "fastboot flash boot boot.img"). HTH.

[Q] flashing boot.img

Hi,
I unlocked my desire with HTCDev so i have to flash the boot.img file every time i install a rom with a different kernel.
I was wondering if there another way, without connecting the phone to the pc, to flash this file.
I'm afraid not but i would like to be sure !
Nope, afaik not
There is a test feature on Sensation in 4EXT recovery, that allows doing it, activating bootloader upon reboot in some way.
I'm not sure if 4EXT recovery for Desire S has the same feature. Worth checking.
In any case, that's your only hope. The other way would be to relock, downgrade and S-OFF, to avoid all this unnecessary mess of flashing boot.img.
That feature doesn't work on desire s .
So the only way is via a pc using fastboot
Tapatalked from a Desire S waiting for Kernel 3 sources. WAKE UP HTC!!!!!!
Hi, Noob here!!!
I've been trying to install a custom ROM onto my HTC desire s , 2.00.0002, 3 branded device for 2 days now.
Super one click sticks at stage 7, tried all the deselect and reselect debugging fixes.
Done the HTCdev unlock, thinking this would help.
Tried to downgrade to use revolution, done all the zergRush and misc_version commands but nothing happens when trying to change version, still had $ in command line instead of #
I've installed Clockworkmod and can boot into recovery, have backed up, deleted and formatted and recovered succesfully.
My main question is.....Can I flash CyanogenMod without rooting?
if so, what other roms can I flash via clockworkmod?
If I have to root...how do I manage it? because I've been right round 3 circles of the net and these pages trying to find an answer!!!
Hope someone can help.
The guides here are really detailed. If you can't follow them - I suggest you leave the phone as is until you can, since you're likely to cause way more damage going down the road. And in the meantime, read the guides until you figure out what things do.

Since you have already been able to install CWM recovery, means that your device is already rooted? Check whether you have SuperUser installed, download the free version of Titanium backup and run the app once, it will tell you whether or not you are rooted. If it is, then I suggest you to follow the link below to downgrade and S-OFF your device (since you already unlocked it using HTCDev anyway).. Or you can stay S-On but i'm afraid you need to use your PC to flash the boot.img everytime you flash a ROM..
If it's not rooted, then try to root it with the same link below.. HTCDev unlock is different with root..
But locked down to 3 network is another thing, I'm afraid you need to pay to get it carrier-unlocked..

Try to follow this thread to downgrade, I was in the same situation like you before, and did almost all the downgrade threads but only this works out:

Hurley, there are two methods to exploit Saga. Try both. For me, zerg method works after fail trying the other method. I think you need to relock it first if you root using htcdev. ( am not remember the steps )
After root, downgrade to the earliest RUU, yes, im on asia region, but i used euro ruu, it works. Confirm your hboot downgraded to 98 after flash ruu. Then, go on to revolutionary. S-Off for good

no just flash zip file .
Nothing hard here. I've flashed 4-5 roms up to now. All running without a hiccup. Here's how you do-
Extract boot.img from the rom you are flashing
Put adb.exe, fastboot.exe, adb.dll and boot.img in a folder
Flash everything normally through recovery
And when it's done DON"T REBOOT just power off
Open up cmd, run as admin and go to your folder( cd c:\folder_name
type adb reboot bootloader
And finally fastboot flash boot boot.img
Everything should be okay.

PAC Man 23.0.0 -> Android 4.0 (HTC Dev)

Hello!
A few weeks ago, after I've unlocked the phone following the instructions from HTC Dev, I've installed PAC man 23.0.0 on my device (I followed this instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100). This was the first time I've installed a custom ROM. Everything worked smooth and I'm quite pleased with this ROM, but there are a couple of things that made me decide I want to go back to the latest version of Android provided by HTCDev (4.0). Please tell me how can I do this (I'm a beginner in this domain and I don't want to do anything wrong).
Thank you!

You should lock your bootloader, use misc version to fake your firmware version and then flash the HTC ROM through their RUU file. In other words, just search for downgrade guide in XDA, and instead of using Gingerbread(2.3) RUU, you should use the 4.0 RUU (404 MB big, you can find it on HTC Dev website).

no need to use misc_version as he can't possibly be on a higher version than the one of the ICS RUU. All that's needed is to run:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
when inside fastboot and then you can run the RUU

after trying to s-off with moonshine (unsuccessful), my phone is not stable : frequent automatic restarts (even after I just flash a new custom rom),
when i uninstall some system app by Titanium Backup then reboot, Those Apps still there.
i can not change font with apps
I want to return to stability!
Moonshine is only for JB, on k2_ul. If your apps still there, you are S-off, i think.
So, when you are on ICS, you can get SuperCid, then Facepalm S-Off, then you should be able to flash the European RUU. Should be possible cause you have k2_ul, but as ever, on your own risk!

Don't mix it with official updates from HTC!
A (custom) rom is made not by HTC, this you can use.
A update by HTC don't have a rom.zip inside.
A RUU has a rom inside, but this is cid related.
So better clarify, what you are searching or what you want to do!

And another question is,

Depends on, if we are talking about official HTC roms/updates or custom roms. For custom roms you usually don't need to change CID.

You should use SuperSu, because i'm not sure that Superuser is still in development (especially for newer Android versions).
Grab the zip file here and flash in recovery (should also remove Superuser you have already flashed).

Why erase cache twice"
I moved from stock the other day, without problems (did spend almost a week reading all the threads on here)
I unlocked via htc dev
Installed twrp
Manged to soff my mini
Got the supercid
I had to updated the hboot to 2.22
I then had to update my twrp to 2.7.1.1 as old twrp couldn't find anything
Then flashed my rom
This worked for me but you may be different, hope this kinda helps
i See...
You have S-Off and supercid
But it is rly needed to update Hboot?

I am so confused...i have 3 instructions:
The first one is using also temproot :
adb reboot <–important!!!!
adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
adb push temproot /data/local/tmp
adb shell
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/temproot
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/firewater
/data/local/tmp/temproot <---- this can take like 10-15 minutes to run
>>>ERROR:
Failed to get prepare_kernel_cred adress.
Failed to get commit_creds adress.
Failed to get ptmx.fops adress.
Failed to setup varialbes.
/data/local/tmp/firewater
The second one tell me smth that i have to flash my rom and kernel ?!?!?!?!
JmzM4StockRootedOdex-WWE-1.22.401.1 & Jmz M4 Kernel
Dont tested, cause i have to flash my rom and Kernel! The main goal is to flash InsertCoin as a Rom
Third one is the normal
adb reboot <–important!!!!
adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/firewater
/data/local/tmp/firewater
But in this instruction, i was one step away to get my s-off til i got the message
Error: kernel contains HTC anti-firewater patch!
-----Try again with a different kernel---

Juhuu...i used rumrunner universial and got to the end a message
1 flash an unsecure kernel thats compatible with your Rom and retry
2. Flash a d different rom
To Point 1: How this could be?
2: I am on Stock Rom, never do smth with my HTC one Mini and sometimes i read that u need STOCK ROM! SO why to change it?
I had to install the JMZ stock rom and kernel then ran Rumrunner. Mine said it was still ON until I updated HBOOT with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759131
