You could try Settings → Privacy → Factory data reset → Reset phone.
I forgot my lock code. I can't access the menu. So through settings isn't an option. Anyone?

Hi i recently got a samsung nexus S, and i have not did any modifications to it like flashing custom roms on it or anything. So its straight up as original as it is.
But i seem to be having a problem with it now as it does not do a clean data wipe even if i do it with a hard reset? The one where u press and hold the power button and volume up. After that i tried doing a reset from the Settings section, it rebooted and came back on with everything still on my phone ! Nothing was deleted at all!
Anyone has any solutions to this?

Just go to settings -> privacy settings -> factory data reset.
yeah i did that, and it rebooted up, and everything was still there lol
Apps, contacts, and some settings like wifi info will automatically come back when u log into your Google account.

I've NEVER seen that happen before, I honestly think you're somehow doing it wrong.

ok first a factory reset thru the settings option.
i went to settings > Privacy > factory data reset i dun think i can get that wrong.
when i do that it shuts off my phone. Reboots up, and i was expecting a clean phone. But everything is still there...
Nxt is hard reset, i shut off my phone, i press and hold the power and volume up until the recovery screen comes up, i select recovery, when the exclamation mark appears beside the android i press the power and volume up button again to bring up the menu and i select wipe data/factory reset. It says wiping...and when its done i select reboot system now, and it loads back to my phone ... with everything still there! hahah xD
unlock the bootloader, thatll automagically wipe the phone(and everything in storage).
hello, my friend just helped me with root/flash my phone, and the system supposedly did a factory reset.
But everything is still there =( im starting to think its a virus?
Im gonna scan it, but does anyone has any experience with these type of problems?

Like someone said before, if you don't uncheck it Google will automatically install apps from your market account after putting in your account data.
yes i unchecked it already, and i doubt google will put back all my mp3 and pictures even after i did a factory reset? I don't really think thats possible...
But anyways, yes i unchecked the automatic restore box.
sorry for the troubles im causing =(
*EDIT*
Do u guys think i would be able to format my phone by using my computer to format it like any other hard disk?
Factory reset doesn't wipe the (fake) SD card by default. Did you check the box for that?

mp3's and pictures are not affected by a factory reset. to get rid of that stuff, do Menu > Settings > Storage > Erase USB storage.
i did that too, i even did the hard reset which supposedly wipes all data? But i reboot back in and my pattern password screen comes back up along with my usual wall paper. All my widgets still there and its like i've nvr done a reset before.

you're either not doing it right or restoring data from google... try doing it without logging back into google
i did not log back into anything, i even switched to a prepaid card to make sure i had no connections to the outside world at all lol xD
anyways derek can u please tell me what im doing wrong? I am sure i followed all the steps correctly. And the screen prompted me to make sure i wanted to erase all data, i clicked yes, and it proceeds to the "wiping data" but then when i reboot it back, everything is still there.
EDIT* I found a thread mentioning a factory format code *2767*3855# in this forum, i tried it, and it tells me connection problem or invalid MMI code. Anyone knows what gives?
please download the stock images for your phone and flash them with fastboot.
fastboot flash data data.img
fastboot flash system system.img
hello!
i was given an android tab with 2.3.3 kernel 2.6.35.7 tablet(the brand is crypto, guess nobody knows it). the problems started because i am unable to download any kind of app from the market, either free or paid. then i followed many instructions and comments i saw in various forums etc, clearing cache of market, clearing any google account stuff etc. i want to change the google account i have and i am getting the message that this is possible only if i go for hard reset udner privacy submenu etc. i am going for factory reset, pressing the button..getting the shut down message and animation..the tablet shuts down..then i have to turn it on again, and everything is still there...no other updates are available for my tablet, i cannot downlaod any appz, i cannot get rid of the google account i have, i cannot factory reset..desparate..anyone has any ideas?
thanks...

Did you flash any custom rom... or are you with the stock? ...

Purely a guess, but turn it off and then hold down power and volume up. Keep holding it through the boot logo(s) and you may get a recovery menu where you can do a proper factory reset.
I'm a little bemused by a device that tells you to factory reset by going into the settings menu when you have forgotten your unlock password

Hey, guys.
My niese is at my place, and she is down because the phone is locked after her brother locked it by doing the pattern code wrong 5 times. Now it's blocked, and she can't access it.
Can anyone come with suggestions on how to open? Or maybe do a hard reset? Anything that will open it up. She will leave tomorrow, so please help!
Isn't it coming up with a timer?
There are two options.
1. Access recovery mode by PowerButton and volume up, and choose wipe data.
2. The hard reset code is *2767*3855#
This options will wipe all user data.. Messages,images.... Before do anything wait if there us time limit.
Good luck!!!

If your Xperia phone is pattern locked and you don't know the answer of security question and no google account info. What will you do ????
If debugging is enabled there are some techniques to remove pattern lock. The other option is to data/factory reset using CWM Recovery.
The installed apps and contacts will be lost. But there is no CWM recovery installed in your phone then what to do ?. You require usb debugging enabled in your phone to install CWM recovery.
There is a trick to Reset Pattern locked Xperia Phone.
1) Click Emergency Call
2) Enter Service menu code
*#*#7378423#*#*
3) Click Custamization Settings
4) Click Reset Customization
5) Click Reset Customization and reboot button.
Warnning : All your Personal data and Installed apps will be lost, This is only for Xperia Devices,Don't miss use this trick
Thanks

Hard reset won't work either...

In the end I was able to reset it with sony's update tool.

Hard to say with that few information.
Could you not into recovery mode? Have you selected to do a factory reset/wipe data?
If this does not work, there might be a Google account connected to the device.
BTW ... the tablet is locked to one app What app is it?
