On screen keyboard while docked? (JB) - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I'm not an tf300 user, but I'm searching for a solution for my brother. For specific reasons he need to use the on-screen keyboard even while docked, but this option is disabled since he updated it to JellyBean... Is there a solution for it? He is completely stock non rooted...
Thanks!

This seems to work for me. Either press Ctrl+ Shift on the dock and then you will see the an option to turn the physical keyboard off. If Ctrl and shift doesn't work for you, click the little keyboard in the bar at the bottom and select it to off from there. The below picture is when i press Ctrl+Shift

Thank you, I'll tell him your way! He said that even if he choose to display it, but I think he did it from Input Settings and not with Ctrl/Shift...

If Ctrl+shift doesn't work, try doing it by clicking the little keyboard icon on the left hand side of the clock whilst typing in the status bar.

It seems he has a bug, it turns off immediately after he switch it on
he'll try rebooting it...

[Q] Asus default keyboard terrible response time

Anyone else noticing incredible input lag with default Asus on screen keyboard? Switched to android default and it is considerably faster just winder if anyone else was seeing similar results.

Yes, I've just switched keyboards and totally agree.

yep. i got fed up with the asus one
I agree. The stock one is almost unusable because it lags so much.
I went to stock. The Asus one was laggy, unresponsive etc.. I do like their layout better though.

If you want the swipe type keyboard then I would suggest flex T9, if you want one to type with then I would recommend smart keyboard pro which allows you to change the width and height of the keys to suit your finger size. They are both available on the market but will cost you a little bit for the privilege however they are both fantastic to use without any lag. I prefer the flexT9 one as swiping is my preferred method of text entry.
thumb keyboard gets a nod from me.. and the new v4 beta adds some great new features.. also, I posted a while back that for some reason, text entry on some forums is inherantly laggy on the stock browser, no matter what keyboard you use (try switching to Firefox) to see what I mean so its possible the Asus keyboard may be getting a bit of an unfair rap ;-)
i recently downloaded thumb keyboard. Very customizable and makes it easy to type while holding the device in either orientation. ..

The Asus keyboard is laggy on everything, there is defnitely a delay even using Quick office.

I love the asus keyboard. I've no issues with lag, only wished auto corrects is better. Like i just typed "ive" and it doesnt correct to "I've" and other simple things like pressing i doesn't auto correct to I.

I am so use to swype on my htc evo though.

[Q] Posting using XDA App

Hi,
this might be a dump question, but how do I create a new thread using the XDA app on my transfomer running ICS? I don't have a menu-button; this is how I would create a new thread in a forum on my HTC Sensation. I don't see any other button to create a new thread ... replying is no prob.
Thx.
It looks like you need XDA Premium or Premium HD to post new threads.
I just use Tapatalk 2.0 and it covers all of my forums. The XDA apps are just a skinned Tapatalk that can only access one forum.
Well,on my HTC Sensation I can post new threads without any prob. Just don't know how to on the Asus.
Sent from my Transformer TF101G using XDA
Using Tapatalk I hit the menu button. On the XDA Free app there is no menu button. Even hitting the Menu button on the keyboard dock does not get it to pop up.
Not sure what to tell ya. I guess try either the premium app or Tapatalk.
Hmm, ok. Thx.
I was just confused, because on my Sensation I get the menu when pressing the menu-button. Well, I suppose I can't open new threads on the Transformer.

I actually just use the xda website on my tablet. Works a lot better than any app I have used.

I use xda premium. When in a forum there is a menu button to the right of task switcher. The button is three vertical dots. When pressed, a sub menu pops up that has an option for new topic.

thanks for the wallpapers! the sdk wont download for me :'( can you see if there is a tablet ui?
Ya there are some tablet notification specific things but the designation for when to go to tablet/phone ui's are different. and the way you access it seems to be with a gesture rather than pressing on the clock

Only if you convert it to a system disk. Its usefull for what i am doing but if you need the emulator its easier just to wait and download it directly. The demands pretty high right now so thats probably why it is slow

UK Layout with Dock and Non Asus Keyboard - Help Needed

Just got my TF300T, but I'm slightly frustrated by the fact that I have to change the default keyboard to ASUS when I use the dock.
After a bit of googling, I found this solution http://stevenixon.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/howto-change-your-asus-eee-pad.html.
Whilst I get the general gist of what needs to be done, it's not something I've got any experience of. Please can someone advise me in more detail how I actually do this?
I cant help you on that front but i can tell you that pressing Ctrl and Shift allows you to select input method. It's a handy tip i think. Figured it out by accident.

Well, a friend who knows linux helped me to replace the files, but it looks like the instructions in the link were probably for a different model, as there are no asusec files. There are asusdec files, but replacing these didn't solve the problem, and actually caused the lock key to make the tablet sleep!
I've looked at the various files, and none seem to match the gb keychars or keylayout files, so unless anyone else has any idea how to make this work I'm stuck.
Thanks for the Ctrl + Shift hint, but this doesn't seem to be working properly for me. It did work once, seemingly at random, but that's it.
Strange, it works fine for me everytime.

Strange, it does not work for me (TF300T-1A160: AZERTY keyboard), and it is very annoying: I usualy use the beta Swype software keyboard, and when I dock the physical keyboard, I have to change the default keyboard via "Settings > Language and Keyboard"
Surely, before you type, next to the time (on the left) you can see the keyboard? you can just click that and change it.

Thanks a lot for the screen. copies.
Now I can see the small keyboard icon... but only when the cursor is in an input field! I am very happy with this turnaround.
But the Ctrl+Shift does not display the choice you have.
Another"Thanks you" your reply

It doesn't appear to be fixed in 4.1.1 for me. I am using CleanROM and unless I use the Asus soft keyboard (which I dislike) the dock thinks it is American. Only when I select the Asus soft keyboard are the keys correct. I have tried changing the Android language (as I select the Android keyboard by default) but this does not work.
Does anyone else know of a fix for the TF300 to use the dock layout as standard when using another soft keyboard?
Graham.

pc sliding style keyboard (numbers at top)

I got a note 2 from work today and i love the number row at the top. After about an hour of searching, I finally found we already have it, just hidden. Deep...
1. Go to settings, language and input
2. Click settings on android keyboard
3. Advanced settings
4. Custom input styles
5. Add style (top right)
6. Language, English (I assume) layout-PC
7. Enable (or maybe hit the back, maybe twice till your on the page with input languages at the top)
8. Click input languages
9. Uncheck use system language, check English (us) (PC)
And your done

I prefer Hackers Keyboard, too. As a writer, the lack of a separate dot, comma and single quote key low me down far too much in pretty much every other keyboard i've tried. also, it allows me to shut of those horrendous suggestions.

I have used hackers keyboard as well but I do a lot of note taking and have got really really good at swype or sliding. So for speed I use the stock android keyboard, which had never happened until last night. Swype beta has been my favorite forever but the auto spacing is not working with the last three builds of cromi.
