Wow!

I still luv old hackers keyboard , a must have for me !
ps-looks even better on tf700 with transparency
...

I prefer Hackers Keyboard, too. As a writer, the lack of a separate dot, comma and single quote key low me down far too much in pretty much every other keyboard i've tried. also, it allows me to shut of those horrendous suggestions.

I have used hackers keyboard as well but I do a lot of note taking and have got really really good at swype or sliding. So for speed I use the stock android keyboard, which had never happened until last night. Swype beta has been my favorite forever but the auto spacing is not working with the last three builds of cromi.

Tip for an on-screen keyboard only with directional arrows?

Hi everyone, I bought Samsung Epix, which is a wonderful device, except that the optical joystick/touchpad sucks.
So, I wanted to ask if you know about software keyboard that would contain only directional arrows (as for example navigating a word or two back is a catastrophe - the touchpad reacts with delay, and it takes a lot of attempts to put the cursor where I wanted - and using it in mouse mode to click between two concrete letters is a pain too).
I created a mockup of what I would like - is there existing keyboard like this, or some lightweight skinnable one for which I could make an arrows-only skin?

Great idea, but it doesn't exist because the Epix and the Saga are the only phones that really need this.
FingerKeyboard skin
Some time ago, when I used FingerKeyboard 2.0, I wanted this same thing and did it by "cheating." Make made layout in another language and put only the four arrow keys that layout. If you use FingerKeyboard, doing this isn't diffficult as the skins are just text files.
If you'd like me to dig through my old files, I can look for my skin, However, I have a lot lined up as work this week and probably won't get to it until Friday.

Thanks, that shouldn't be necessary - just a tip for a concrete configurable SIP and the 'custom language' trick is enough, thank you!

[Q] Swype + Cursor Handle = No "W"?

I've got a problem that I don't seem to see any others having... although they should.

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Every time I open the keyboard to type I'm greeted with the cursor handle halfway over the "w" key. If I try to start a word with a "w" it will think I want to move the handle and the swype won't take, so either I have to wait ~5 sec for it to disappear or hit another letter and backspace and then start. If you are good you can get the bottom of the "w" key but more often than not you get the handle.
It's in the most unfortunate place, too - as most phrases I text start with "w".
Where you at?
Who is coming?
When will you be here?
What do you want to do?
Why are you still here?
...etc
The stock keyboard is fine since there is the space above - why not Swype too?
So the question is - first, more theoretical, why would Android default to have the handle there when there is no text entered? (e.g. starting a text or web search)
Secondly, is there any way to get rid of the handle altogether? I've gotten accustomed to Android not having it so I'm good if it's not there but also with Swype there is little reason to go back and edit individual letters.
Maybe someone who works for Swype will see this and add the new (and much improved) word selection bar above the keyboard all the time like stock gingerbread...
Try Swype 3.0 (in beta)?

Then I'm afraid I have no idea how to fix your problem. I don't ever get the cursor handle when initially opening an input window. Mine only shows up after I touch it a second time.
I have that same problem with the cursor over the W...very annoying. I've defaulted to skipping the 'W' when I type the first word...

Missing "Y" in keyboard [ViperOneS 2.0.0]

In any application when I want to use my keyboard in landscape mode the "y" is missing. There are two "z"s instead as shown on the attached screenshot. When I turn to phone 90° into normal mode the "y" is there. My phone is in german. This problem happens on german aswell as on english keyboard. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Does it write two times the z? or does it write y, also?
yes. it indicates and writes two times z.

I played a little bit around with the settings. Language/location settings won't do anything. But when I change my keyboard layout from QWERTZ to QWERTY the problem is gone. But this setting doesn't make sense to me. Now I always have QWERTY no matter what language I select in the keyboard. The keyboard layout should be automatically adjusted when I change from DE to EN like it was in ICS.

I think there were two language options, one for the bilingual keyboard and the other sets the system language. Try both.

Tried it. Does not help.

[Q] External keyboard behaviour

Debating getting this but which of these behaviours does this device follow?
Galaxy S5 / stock Android behaviour: connecting USB / BT keyboard just works.
TouchWiz 4.0 - 4.3 / Galaxy Note 8.0 on 4.4.2 behaviour: connecting USB / BT keyboard force changes software keyboard to stock Samsung Keyboard app.
Currently using SwiftKey with my Note Pro which previously had bugs/issues but now seems to work rather well. I just started this reply in Tapatalk and plugged in a USB keyboard using a USB 3.0 OTG cable and it works fine. The only issue I see is that the predictive text bar is still showing at the very bottom of my screen. Odd behavior but at least it's not defaulting to the stock Samsung Keyboard as you're describing in your behavior #2.

Thank goodness, the force switch behaviour has been annoying as heck. When I saw my S5 doesn't share it, I was hoping that most devices launched on Kit Kat might act normally.

There's a setting in some keyboard apps to control whether or not to display that when using a physical keyboard but I'm not sure whether or not SwiftKey has a thing to turn that off. I think it used to have a off switch but I might be thinking of another app.
Using the Logitech K801 BT keyboard & Swiftkey as default: (p905 LTE International.)
Just connected it, it leaves Swiftkey as default.

It does this:
Clicking on the 'Choose Input Method' brings up this menu.
And when I turn the on-screen keyboard on, this appears. Note the Swiftkey icon in the bottom left. (Droidedit doesn't support predictive text)
(Yes I changed the theme.)

What is most important about a keyboard?

Hello ,everyone!

No problem, I am here to help.
For me, ideal english keyboard has numbers above letters for quick access. That's probably all I'm missing in standart Android keyboard.
But if you are thinking in non English world also, there is space for improvement in autocorrect (for example default android keyboard tries to correct every word it doesn't know, which makes autocorrect totaly useless in my language). Also it's really annoying to write special characters (for example á,š,č...), because you have to press letter, wait for a second and than choose from a sub menu. That's actually quite a big delay because you normally have to write many of these characters.
I hope it helps you somehow and sorry for my English.
For me is Accuracy and Predictions.
