How to flash radio without s-off? - HTC Sensation

Hello, again I have a question. Firstly I have flashed the ARHD rom using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861 which makes me still S-ON, I assume. I want to flash another radio and keep failing for both methods in the radio/ril thread. I assume it is because I am still S-ON. What can I do to flash another radio? It keeps telling me that checking signature FAILED.

Sorry you must be S OFF to flash that. I believe you must be S off for the pg58img files like firmware and radio. You can always S off then you will not have a problem. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Realsis is correct. You cannot flash a radio with s-on.
S-on exists specificly to prevent you from messing with the radio and some other things

Hi,
As has been mentioned, you cannot flash firmware or radio with s-on.
If you are interested in s-offing,check my signature (☺ A great starting point for all new Sensation owners ☺) for a good list of guides to do so.

ENG S-OFF and Ship S-OFF?

Hi,
I want to flash a new radio to my Sensation as I currently have a really bad battery life and thought it could maybe be the result of an non-matched radio. (Updated to Android Revolution HD 3.0.0 yesterday)
My bootloader tells me I'm Ship S-OFF, but I've read that I'd need ENG S-OFF to flash a new radio, but could not find any guide telling me how to "do that".
Do I need ENG S-OFF? If so, how can I get it?
Thanks for your help.
Find Bin4ry's thread in dev section (it's a little hard to find, old thread but still) and inside that thread you can download PG58IMG.zip file. Then just flash that file and that's it
Edit: Here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122053

Btw, I'm not sure if you need ENG S-OFF to flash a radio

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone else know if I really need ENG S-OFF to flash a new Radio? I don't want to do it if I don't need it..

I've already installed one PG58IMG.zip file a few weeks ago, which was a bit "bigger". Am I supposed to just install the "new" one "over" the old one? Or will there be problems?

What is ENG S-Off used for anyway? Installing a new ROM overwrites the radio though?

Installing a new ROM does not override the radio, installing a new radio does. If you don't know what ENG hboot does, don't flash it. You don't need it, and if you don't know what youre doing you can brick your phone.

I do know what I'm doing (I think xD). I just mixed up all the information I got, so I wanted things to be cleared up a bit.
What I just want to know is, what is the difference between Ship S-Off and Eng S-Off? What is responsible for giving acces to Nand making me able to install a custom ROM? Ship S-Off, right?
I'm really confused right now xD

Ship S-OFF is enough to flash a recovery so you can flash a ROM. If your ROM needs a different radio the chef will let you know and will likely provide instructions to upgrade. ENG s-off opens up more commands that can potentially break a phone if you do the wrong things.

Quick question about adb

I came from a mytouch 4g recently.
I already had adb setup for my mytouch 4g.
Do I need to install or do anything for it to work for my sensation?
Or am I good to go?

Nope you are good to go. Flash away and have fun! Just make sure to read all the prerequisites prior to flashing, especially for the ICS.
For ICS:
Basically you need to of course, then, unlock, NANDROID, superCID, update firmware, don't revert back the hboot to 1.17 and use a super wipe script, wipe all old data and flash your rom.

If you upgrade with the latest firmware (hboot 1.23), the newer roms will not boot up from hboot 1.17. Unless someone came across a fix.
And also keep in mind the hboot under 1.23 will say "LOCKED" but don't worry. You are still rooted.

Enable smart flash in recovery...
If u r trying to flash ics Rom then u required ics firmware 3.33
Sent from my Sensation using xda app-developers app
If you don't already have it please download 4ext recovery. Then you will be able to enable smart flash. Because your S on you must use smart flash every time you flash a rom. Also make sure you have correct firmware as said in above post. Because your s on you must flash a bit differently than us with s off. I'm going to send you a link to flashing roms with s on. Skip down to where it talks about smart flash. This link will also show you how to permanently enable smart flash. Hope this is helpful. Hi,
What ROM did you try to install?
You are on a GingerBread firmware.
You cannot load any ICS ROMS.
And you cannot change firmware or radio with s-on.
S-off for you would be possible using Revolutioary.
Look HERE

Thats correct. You can try to flash it but it wont actually work. The only way to use a different radio on a higher hboot (besides OTA updates and RUUs) is to go to an AOSP ROM. They hold radio files in a different location (there is a CM10 radio flasher in the development forums). This still wont replace the underlying radio on your phone (which will be there if you go back to SENSE base ROMs). But it will allow you to try out different radios.
Not brick, only don't install
you don't tell us what rom you are on--
either way, read this thread

some have flashed radios on to sense roms with .14 hboot with the installer

Now any hboot can flash radios on sense, using the CM10 installer.
