[Q] custom ROM on other device

I have rooted my micromax a87 and have installed the deception ICS rom. however, I am not quite satisfied with it. I have heard that there is an ICS and a JB ROM for samsung galaxy y, which has more or less the same hardware specs as mine except for the screen difference. If I will install that ROM, can I risk my phone to brick, or will it be shown small in my screen because galaxy y's screen is comparitively smaller than mine... please help I'm a rookie at this thing

It will surely brick your device.
They are completely different phones and they will be having different bootloaders and what not. Don't try that.

You will brick your device badly and with the OEM of that device refusing to release the kernel source code you will find no roms here for it very soon.

What if I have Taken a backup of my stock OS?? Will I be able to recover using cwm if things go bad?? Because I wanna experiment

A jtag is a device that will reprogram your device on the hardware level and needs to be hooked up to the main board itself using the proper mount points. Not something I would advice anyone doing. Let alone on a device like yours.

I wonder why a few devs are working on GALAXY GRAND QUATTRO... Its such an awesome device...working on qualccomm blood...
Even this device lack a cwm...I started working on cwm.. but without company i feel isolated and i am quitting...Come on guys there are lots of people with thus device... i saw many posts requesting for root and cwm..This device is stuck in future developments,.. Guys I am taking this thread to make all headlines about when my rom is coming and developinng for it everything is here ask questions about the rom about it's core feauters and everything in your mind

I downloaded the the system dump so almost going to root it but need boot.img

Good luck. This rom is absolutely class on the tab 2

Very cool seeing this forum getting started. I've had my Tab 3 7.0 for about a month and while I like it having a couple of other Tablets and two smartphones I'd almost forgotten how miserable it is working with a non-rooted device. Almost 90% of my apps require root so at the moment the Tab 3 is just a toy to play a few minor games on, looking forward to seeing this fourum getting rolling with some excellent Devs and great mods.
Thanks to all you guys and gals who do such great work and rarely get thanked or compensated for it. If a dev does some good work for you and you aren't on the donation list then consider what your getting and why you think it should be free. Nothing, including your phones or tablets are free, why should these devs, who bring your device to full functionality, not at least be worthy of a few dollars donation???
Geez, I sure got up on my soap box today, guess I'm just so grateful to see the beginnings of a journey into great work on the Tab 3 I just wanted to remind folks that our Devs work hard and they deserve a few tangible thank you's. Sorry about the soap box, just happy to see us getting started!!!!!!!!!

yes for tab 8.0 and 7.0 not sure about 10.1 it is x86 never used x86!!???

I never used your rom before.

There is quite a bit of optimization that needs to be done with this tab. I am getting a little frustrated.

Check our root method, our Razr i also is x86, maybe this can make more easy the root

We still don't have recovery working for the 7 I world expect the 8 version to get posted in the dev area not here and from what I understand the 8 has recovery but it is not 100 % functional.

as i don't own a device i can't really tell you when i will realese the rom but may be in the near future i will get one !! i have downloaded the wifi only tab 3 7.0 frimware and still need a working boot.img i know it is there but i need one to be dumped so if any one could dump me a boot.img it will be much apreicated hope this tab becomes a big comunity .

The recovery for the tab3 8.0 using TWRP works and is 100% functional. I have it running and full root on the tab3 8.0
The 8.0 is running 4.2.2 while the 7.0 is running 4.1.2 so besides that the processor is different as the boot and kernel which makes some differences and more all around Dev work.
Triangle Away and any other method to go back to factory and remove custom device status is not available for either device so at the moment if you root you can't go back. Hopefully it is only a matter of time before all tab3's can be fully utilized.

Can anyone thats rooted copy this from there tablet and send it to me please?
Also any developer with knowledge help me with creating rom for this device. After i get the phoneutil.apk i going to start working on the stock rom zip aligning and deodex it.

This would be awesome, hope you get the help you need. .I'll be anxiously awaiting a custom ROM finally for our devise yay

yeah i am hopeing to port over the galaxy rom for the p51xx i saw it had the phone app and would love to add it to this one also this will be my first time making a rom but seeing as how we do not have one for our tablets its a start at least after its started maybe someone with more knowledge will pick it up and run with it.

ok finally out of factory mode jesus christ it took 100 internet searches and thousand of useless pages to find two useful ones that could help. One of them on here and the other on w0lfdroid for how to fix it. If anyone is wondering the old galaxy tab generic imei trick does not work.

Hi there lending you some help. Try using kingo root apk file, install it, have mobile data or wifi activated and then click the "one click root" button. 100% assured it will work 'cause i've tried and tested it in my phone, same as oyur phone cloudfone 501d. It's now rooted and i already have my custom rom flashed. KALAWAKAN ROM V2.9 by carlman villareal. If it works on you (definitely it will) have them recognized by hitting their thread "thank you" button. Good luck and have enough guts doing it and not blame somebody if something goes wrong. Apply caution.
