First of all, I am a noob when it comes to Android in general. So please forgive me if I posted in the wrong section of the forum or I didn't give enough information. now we got that out of the way...
Hello, I recently picked up the Pantech Burst from AT&T. It's a nice phone that's running Android Version 2.3.5. I rooted it within two weeks of getting it.
Because I rooted it, I want to now install a custom ROM. I've tried to follow some tutorials, but none of them seemed to help me. Each one I looked at told me to download ROM Manager and use the Clockworkflash Mod. When I tried to use it, it asked me to confirm my device on the list. However, my device wasn't on the list. I couldn't seem to find anything here, either. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487576
Is there anyway to do this without using this specific tool? Are there any alternatives?
A few more questions..
How do I know which ROM I can use on my phone?
Does it only matter which Android Version i'm using, and not the specific device?
Can somebody please introduce me to some good ROMs?
Just in case any of this information helps....

I upgraded my 2.2 rooted Cappy to 2.3.5 using Samsung Mini Kies everything worked perfect and now I want to root my phone again, any help with this?
P.D.: I dont want to flash any custom kernels or any custom anything as I saw on another thread, I just want to re-root my phone.
Sorry friend but you're going to have to have to flash a new kernel to allow you to root.

The post says "Our DHD is NOT 100% compatible with the Euro DHD. A rom using their kernel will yield no sound. The downgrade rom is one of those, so you must either flash a compatible rom after this procedure is done, or you must flash a compatible kernel (linked below) to get sound back."
I found this quote above, it seems the the downgrading rooting process kills audio due to uncompatible kernel install. In order to get audio back you need to flash a compatible rom or kernel (DHD or Inspire 4G)
I'm sorry I actually already solved the problem. Thanks for your help though.

So this morning i rooted my 5.0 player. Still has factory rom/kernal and runs on gingerbread 2.5 or whatever the stock firmware and os is. Anyyywaaayy. Its rooted. I have all in one tools and memory cleaner to optimize performance. I am usin an ics theme but i feel like im missing something. What kind of things can i do to enjoy the rootness on my mini tablet? Or could some of you guys help a noob build confidence about flashing. Idk i saw a mobile version of odin. Not sure what to think. I would love a jellybean os or something better than gingerbread.. It sucks. Lol what can i do now?

Well my friend, we do have our own forum, and recently we got jellybean on our devices thanks to medorval. But here is what you should do, first, get the newest version of Odin on your computer. I use 1.85 i believe, then go download and flash entropy's kernel, which is overclocked for speed and, well, tech stuff. If you need more clear steps, contact me or go to our forum. Just type in galaxy player in the search your device and it should pop up for the 4.0 and 5.0. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you can't find them, I can help.
That is only the start of what you can do.
DO NOT USE MOBILE ODIN. DO NOT. IT BRICKS OUR DEVICE.

Good looken out friend and look luck with your academics!

Haha thanks. And just a heads up so there is no frustration, you have to be on an ICS rom to update to jellybean. For some reason, you get errors while trying to do it on gingerbread. And flash jellybean through CWM.

My mate has bought this Android set top box made my Strong. Model number is NRT-4
Seems to be running very generic vanilla ICS but he want's to run an app on both phone and STB which allows him to control the STB from his phone but the STB server app requires root.
No threads exist here for it so I guess no one has any confirmed method for rooting it yet. Is there a method for rooting generic android devices? It requires SU and Busybox. Cheers
Sorry my englisch is not that great and could you provide a picture of it or a link?
Then maybe I could help you

Hi guys, great forum btw.
I have an ainol novo8 discover, (a supposed quadcore ipad mini alternative)
I really need a new rom for this device as the stock firmware is terrible. However search as I mite I can find nothing.
The device is rooted and using es file explorer I tried to remove the bloatwarw, to no avail, uninstall unsuccessful is what im greeted by.
My first question is how do I uninstall these apps? I have dissabled them through settings-apps but I want them gone completely.
My second question is where do I start when working on a new rom for a device? Please note that ainol have yet to release the source code for the ainol discover.
Anyway guys thank you all for your time and patience, and please be aware im a newbie to all this so please do try to simplify your answers.

You have to give some time for people to reply lol, check out Rom Toolbox, you can uninstall everything is you want.
in the upper right is a box "Type to find your device" put your device in there and it will take you to your phone, from there you can access the info you are looking for.
Fair point, sorry.
Just very frustrating device.
Ainol havent released there firmware yet anyway so I guess theres no way of creating a rom without it.
Thankyou btw for mentioning rom toolbox, with that es file manager and a factory data reset I managed to get rid of all of the bloatware (that I know of ) off the device.
