Has anyone EVER managed to make n0p’s free (!) Tower Toppler ( http://toppler.sourceforge.net/ ) port (available at http://n0p.tonych.info/?Tower_Toppler ) work on his / her WM device?
It wouldn't work on mine - it just displays "null" instead of the name of the map. Tested on several of my devices, with both the older XScale only and the new ARM (02.12.2006) build.
Alternatively, does anyone know n0p's accessibility? I'd need this info on my forthcoming article on all Nebulus clones for Windows Mobile.
Hmm, I wanted to check it out but when I tried downloading from http://n0p.tonych.info/?Tower_Toppler I got a "leach alert" page saying something about no referrals and turning off download accelerators.
Found this odd since I have no download managers installed.
Tried it with Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Explorer 6.0 and nothing...

Directly (left) click the links, do NOT do a right-click + Save link as.
No luck. Tried it directly with both browsers.
Even ran Spybot just in case.
Played with the desktop version for a bit - nice little game.
Interesting thing is I did not see an email address anywhere on the developers site (and I even checked the Russian version - yes I read Russian).
Oh well, it was just curiosity any way. I have about 20 games on my Jamin as it is and in order to get some respect I need to at least pretend to use it for work stuff
Good luck with your article.

Strange it didn't work. I can put it on my database back-end so that the entire world can access it there without problems tomorrow morning; I'll give you the URL as soon as it's up.
In the meantime, I was able to make the game work (see http://forum.xda-developers.com:80/showthread.php?t=304230 if interested). Guys, you MUST give this game a try - it REALLY rocks! n0p has again presented us something REALLY cool, thanks!
ANYWAY, if anyone does know n0p's accessibility, let me know. I, as the Windows Mobile Best Software Awards 2007 Nomination Manager, want to nominate some of his stuff for this year's awards and, for this, I also need to contact him.
See http://www.winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/TopplerARM.7z for the mirrored file
Thanks a lot for mirroring the file. (You relay shouldn't have bothered)
Keep the excellent articles coming.

You're welcome, and thanks
Hello,
I've spent the last month trying desperately to find a free 2D (or 3D, but not required) graphics API I can use for high performance games on Windows Mobile. I initially set about trying to find a managed API to use, but now I've broadened my search to include any API (that I can call from C++ or .NET), and I'm still struggling to find anything.
The options seem to be:
- GDI: not nearly fast enough for high performance games
- DirectDraw: probably OK, but doesn't seem possible to use this on my HTC Touch Pro 2 due to memory problems (see http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2009/04/17/twisted-pixels-3-memory-mysteries.aspx -- I've got the same problem and have not yet found any way to work around this)
- Direct3D: no hardware driver on my Touch Pro 2, this renders about 0.2 frames per second in the samples, which is not good enough
- OpenGL: I've tried and tried, and can't get any samples working for this. The closest I've found is the tutorials here: http://www.zeuscmd.com/tutorials/opengles/index.php, but these all fail with an error, "Unable to create OpenGL|ES context" as soon as I run them (or alternatively using the "Ug" version, I get no window appearing at all).
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can progress from here? I really want to write some Windows Mobile games, but I can't even get started. :-(
Thanks,
Adam.
For 'better' graphics performance have a look at the 2D/3D Driver Development for MSM720X devices!
After installation of this driver pack try my OpenGL test app (source also available) found in my sig! Installing this driver pack will increase d3d performance, too!
Hi heliosdev,
Many thanks for posting the sourcecode for your OpenGL test -- I have that compiling very nicely here and producing very promising results too. I think this may finally be the answer I've been looking for.
Do you have any idea how much of a performance hit using PInvoke to interact with OGLES is likely to be? I don't know whether PInvoke is slow to use or not, but it strikes me that it may be slower use it hundreds of times per frame compared to coding directly in C++ and not needing to PInvoke at all..?
Thanks again,
Adam.
For comparison NuShrike implemented torus test in C++. As you can see the difference is 'minimal' even NuShrike optimized it using vertex buffer objects (I'm using standard vertex arrays and just triangles, i.e. no triangle strips).
I thought I would mention the release of a new application called DynaInk. It works with both stylus and finger and allows you to draw on a blank canvas or over a file or photo. Has undo and different pen types and colours. You can save and email your drawings as well.
I liked it so much I bought it ($9.99 US) straight away after just playing with it for a minute or two.
Here is the list of features...
Multilingual
- Available in English and German.
Supports all screen types
- QVGA, VGA, Wide, Portrait and Landscape modes are supported
Drawing Tools
- Pencil (fixed width)
- Brush (draws stronger line for slow movements)
- Pen (draws stronger line for fast movements)

First, posting warez is not allowed. Second, if you look at my details (top left of post) there are stars, I support the forum.
Having tried other inking/drawing/note taking apps, they don't seem to do well with the capacitive screen so you end up with wobbly inaccurate lines.
Is this one better...I will give it a try, but would also value your opinion

Can't click a link can you?
Pleased you brought this here Nighthawk..... I was just about to do it myself.
Yes, it's a great little New Application.
Very clean and uncluttered.
Loves
1. Background Import:-
I rather like the idea you can import either as a Background or a File a picture.
What is interesting in the Background selection is you can select Camera. Next step take a Photo and it's automatically imported into DynaInk.
2. Multiple Undo's:-
This is brilliant and is a god send of a time saver.
3. Dynamic Brush Selection:-
Gives the Brush & Quill a natural drawing ability.
Dislikes
1. Removing unwanted ink strokes:-
If you draw to the edge (or near) of the screen and then select Undo then undo your strokes, after the Undo window disappears instead of clearing away all the ink strokes selected it leaves the ink on screen that was previously shown outside of the Undo window.
In other words it clears away any strokes within the Undo window but leaves the ones outside on the screen.
2. Finger Painting
It works but it's a bit hit & miss.
Maybe a Capacitive Stylus will help with this.
Queries
1. Portrait/Landscape
According to the Manual it states the program works in either Portrait or Landscape.
I can't find anywhere in how to make the program change to Landscape?
Improvements
1. Zoom Feature
It would be great if we had an option to zoom in on the work.
This would certainly help with the finger painting in help getting the finger in the right place.
Notes:
1. Well, we have 7 (seven) days trial use.
The web site needs a Forum but in the meantime I've left a few questions on the Support feedback message box.
Happy Painting all.........
I did give it a try and as a drawing application it is excellent, even just on a few minutes playing. I have the artistic ability of a small, sun-hardened cowpat (or say Tracy Emin) and the pen mode can even make a few of my daubs look reasonable.
However, I primarily wanted a scribbler for notes, for which it works up to a point if you are prepared to go slow and steady, but even then it sometimes loses the plot.
If I was a sketcher I would buy this in a heartbeat, but I don't rate it for note taking, at least if you only have your finger handy

Just received a reply back from DynaInk to this one.
Hi,
Thanks for reporting this problem. As I see it only occurs when you undo all your steps. This case DynaInk does not refresh the screen.
I will correct it ASAP, until that you can use File/New to undo all your steps.
Best Regards,
Gabor

That was quick.... I only sent off the request around an hour ago.
Guys,
Received another message from DynaInk this evening:-
Thanks Mike!
I hope I can do the fix tomorrow and I will upload it to dynaink.com/download page.
Best Regards,
Gabor

Got to hand it to DynaInk, they certainly are on the ball and look after the customer base.
damn it.. just what I've been looking for.. I am going to try it now..
thanks so much.. THANK GOD!!! finally..

Trust me... you won't be disappointed.
Yeah, I got responces from DynaInk last night after I posted a couple of questions to them and such, about 2 hours after I sent them. I am really impressed with that.
I can mention that the software supports WVGA, they just didn't list it in the overview.
As for rotating, could it be a HD2 issue? I'm going to fiddle with registry and will let you know.

Yes.. I've now sent two messages and both came back within the hour (or thereabouts).
As to the rotating, the manual doesn't give too much info (apart from actually saying Portrait/Landscape).
Would be interesting if there is a reg key.
The developer's going to send me an email very soon with the update to the problem I found on screen refresh. I'll post it here as soon as it comes through, along with any other snippets of info.
I've done the registry hack, but it didn't work (created CAB). I suspect it has to do with the value needed for the HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList >>>
Registry String: DynaInk
Value: ????
Anyone know what I should use here as a value?
*** Tried MunichWinClass, DynaInk - no luck
***UPDATE *** I have got rotation working, you can grab the CAB below for making the change.
The (SC) version is for using if DynaInk was installed on Storage Card. Having not made CABs before I wasn't sure if there is a way to set it up (WinCE Cab Manager) to recognise where app was installed automaticaly, so I made the two seperate ones.

You should drop them a line via the support section on their website and ask about them making a Notes application, seems to me they have a lot of the work already done.

Yeah... that's the problem.
Gabor can see the problem and he's working on it.
Also, thanks for looking at a registry hack for the screen rotation.
I'm busy right now but will try it out later tonight and get back to you.
Cheers.

It's a good thought and one that I may just follow up on, thanks.
The main problem seems to be that the fine movement and close curves required to write is misinterpreted, so you seem to get random straight lines joining what I'd guess was two points detected as having been pressed on the screen.
If you write big and slowly it's mostly ok, but I wonder if the screen can ever work properly for notes without a stylus.
Certainly not the software's fault though - it's a tidy bit of kit!

Not had chance yet to try this out Nighthawk.
Can you tell me what it actually does to the software or how it's rotated?
Is it done automatically as you rotate the screen?
It's just adds DynaInk to the GSensor Whitelist (registry), same as we had to do for TomTom.
HKCU/Software/HTC/HTCSENSOR/GSensor/ModuleName
Key: DynaInk
Value: \Storage Card\Program Files\DynaInk\DynaInk.exe
HKCU/Software/HTC/HTCSENSOR/GSensor/WhiteList
Key: DynaInk
Value: #NETCF_AGL_BASE_
I have an HTC touch Pro, this bad boy (thanks to xda) can do everything. Even my taxes. I am working in college with CNC programming and 3d parametric modeling, i am sending drawings around all the time but I need to be at a work station to view the models. I use the 3dpdf option to display models in presentations, and thought that it would be efficient to use this on my phone(to show professors, other students, and potential employers) but adobe reader le 2.5 just posts "enable 3d view mode." to witch i can not find an option to do, I know this software is lite and has limited scope but it would be cool if i could get some direction or even an answer to how i could get this working. I know this phone has the power to run a 3d model, i just cant seem to get it to display 3d files in any form what so ever.
could you post a 3d file so i could take a look into getting it workig?
http://www.sendspace.com/file/akvqpb <-- this is a quick model that i did for a friend, just to show what solidworks can do. If you open it in adobe you should be able to twirl the model around. I can add dimensions and views later if you desire but i think this should get you going. thanks in advance for any time you put into this.
On a side note the site i used to host this file uses a lot of advertisements, the link is at the bottom of the page for down load, if you have another site that you would like me to up load it to shot me a link and ill get it done asap.
The phone is supposed to support dual-frequency GNSS.
Can someone use GPSTest (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.gpstest&hl=en&gl=US)
and show a screenshot that demonstrates that the phone can pick up both frequencies?
Attached screenshot, you can see L5 and E5a in use there.
Looks like the screenshot got lost in the mail ;-) But yet I can confirm that dual-frequency is supported.
B2a too
Dual-frequency GNSS works. Positioning in general seems to be quite fast and accurate outdoors, also in forests.
Unfortunately it does not record carrier phase data with GPSTest or other apps (only outputs zeroes), so post-processing (PPK or others) are not usable. Does anybody know whether a custom rom can help with that?
I've seen it couldn't output "Navigation Messages", is that what's missing ? The Mi 8 could do that though I think. Is it really worth doing post-processing with an Android phone though where you're going to be limited by the poor antenna ? What post-processing tools do you use ?
You're probably right about the antenna. I wanted to see how far you can get with this phone. For some of my applications it could be useful to have sub-meter or at least the best accuracy available.
I wanted to use https://jason.rokubun.cat/#!/
Thanks for the link, they do indeed mention Android Smartphones under https://jason.docs.rokubun.cat/examples/ and give instructions on how to log data with GNSS Logger (GNS Logger v3 keeps crashing on me, does it work for you ?). They don't mention Navigation Messages that the Mi 10 '(and all 765G devices) is not capable of but "measurements" should be ok. Did you activate the "Full GNSS measurements" in the Developer Options ?
PS - I tried to create an account on Jason but I'm not getting the confirmation email. I tried "forgot password" and got an email but it won't reset. Looks like the site might have a few issues !
GNSS Logger always crashed on my phone, too. I have successfully used "GNSS/IMU Logger" as well as "GPSTest" instead (I prefer the former but since the last MIUI update (12.1.3) it has some bugs). I have enabled "Full GNSS measurements" in the developer settings.
The site worked just fine for me. At first files from the GPSTest app were not readable by the engine but the developers changed this immediately. They have also been very fast and helpful with my problems so far so maybe try contacting them via mail.
Good to hear, so what phone were you using when you got your data processed by Jason ? I received the email so I'll give it a try with both GPSTest and GNSS Logger v2 with my Mi 10 Lite just in case.
EDIT : so the GPSTest recording was...empty so same problem as you it seems (or I did something wrong while recording) but the GNSS Logger file is 1.8MB and is currently processing but stuck on "Looking for closest CORS station" so I'm not sure what's going on.
Ah sorry, my message was unclear. I have produced valid rinex and raw log files with the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite but the fields with the carrier phase data were empty. Jason then still processes the files but the output data are not helpful, with positions way worse than what a standard gpx recorder delivers.
Jason usually didn't take long with my files.
Gotcha, I opened the log with excel and the CarrierPhase fields are indeed empty. Is that why we get the " Could not set-up parameters for PPP processing: Cannot perform PPP on Rinex because SP3 orbits for 2021-01-21 16:00:17.429569 could not be found " message in Jason ? That sounds more like a CORS station problem but anyway it won't help with our problem.
The result was indeed poor, worse than what I was seeing on GPSTest actually but I think GPSTest shows the "Android Position", i.e. fused GPS/WiFI/4G
By the way, which rom are you using?
I don't use 4G or Wifi for positioning.
Stock ROM with Miui 11.0.4.0
I'll try turning off data to see what that does to the position. It might be using the accelerometers too to keep it steady.
About the empty CarrierPhase data fields I wonder if the data isn't being made available differently after reading the paper made available here : https://www.researchgate.net/public...g_Xiaomi_Mi_8_Dual-Frequency_Raw_Measurements
Where it says : " Not all available public methods in these two classes are actually in use or of interest for satellite-based positioning. In fact, some variables (e.g., ‘CarrierPhase’) have been deprecated starting from API version 28 [11]"
EDIT : ok, what we need is the "AccumulatedDeltaRangeMeters" and it is indeed shown as 0.0 on the Mi 10 Lite
Looking for some Mi 8 logs now, I'm pretty sure I've seen some somewhere !
See here for example:
https://www.kaggle.com/google/android-smartphones-high-accuracy-datasets
From the "awesome GNSS" list. You can also find a list of device capabilities there:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jXtRCoEnnFNWj6_oFlVWflsf-b0jkfZpyhN-BXsv7uo/edit#gid=0
The Mi 10 Lite 5G is supposed to support carrier phase data /accumulatedDelta. It just seems like they are not calculated.
I'm sure you know the GPSTest group:
https://groups.google.com/g/gpstest_android
I'll leave the link for other interested people.
Yes I'm there too ;-) I just mentioned the GeolocPVT app, I managed to build it starting from the .aab, what a hassle ! Unfortunately it can't get a fix with the Mi 10, maybe because of the lacking ADR data ?
Talking of which I ran GNSS Logger v2 on a lowly Redmi 9 and...it logs ADR data ! I'll see if I can post-process some data with Jason.
Thanks for the links for the logs, the video presentation was interesting too. Do you know what the "Ground Truth Data" is ? A geodetic receiver getting RTK corrections maybe ?
I wonder if the Mi10 will ever get proper ADR data...have you had other Android phones that provide that data ?
Sorry, no. I didn't check with the Realme X2 Pro and now no longer have it.
