How and what do i need to get a 3g usb dongle to work i have one now that doesn't seem to work. It'a a nokia cs-17 and i think i need to install the connecting software to work but that will only work for windows etc. What do i have to do to get a 3g dongle to work that doesn't need a software installed on the device ? If i can't get a dongle to work i'll just use phone hotspot.
I'm pretty sure you'll need drivers to get something like that to work. I suppose you could try porting them from windows or writing your own if you've got the skill but other than that, you can only hope for the best and see if it works.
The TF201 runs the same kernel version, so check the Prime forums to see which dongles people have managed to get working. That should probably get you on your way.
Basically, it would involve checking the kernel drivers included in 2.6.39.4 (which is the version TF700 runs) and add and compile the kernel module for it if it's not included in the kernel by default. You'd need root to insmod/modprobe that newly compiled kernel module.
anyone tried and able to get the 3g dongle to work ?

Im sorry if you get this alot but I'm very confused on all your development posting on how to root my Asus TF101 build # 8.6.5.9 Android - 3.2
I was about to do BRKS root tool kit but I'm not sure I'm not new to rooting having a Droid incredible, atrix, and LG Thrill .. but honey comb and being a tablet I feel uncomfortable with just going to town on rooting.
My main reason is o.c'ing my kernel and I really want this to feel faster my phone beats my transformer with ease.. I'd like to play some game that ive bought on other devices. Why is my fav game modern combat 2 on Acer a500 but isn't on this or the thrive..?
So if y'all could help brother out with my questions I would love to do this asap
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
First thing you need to find out is what the serial number is. If it's below B70, then you can root it, if it's B70 you may be able to root it, if it's B80 or up, presently you can't root it.
It says S/N B60*******
Is this a good thing?

What would you recommended rooting method and Rom for first timer I'm going to wait to root till I get some good answer like I mentioned before I'm not gonna just dive right into it till i have more time for research ect.

Umm, honestly, I think the most straightforward one is the linux universal root. I used it for my b5, and it worked exactly as it should.
I tried it won't let me go to a desktop I've tried the Ubuntu w/script method but couldn't get it to boot past showing me the thinking mouse pointer
So I will try the other way I see a YouTube video on rooting the 3.2 and below so.. i shall see when I do it tomorrow
Thanks for the imput

I have all game bought just no way to play them..

I have used the method on the thread below to root then unroot...install latest version of 3.2 and then to re-root again using the bootable CD method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198303
If I had been on a custom rom I might have had a different experience..then again maybe not.
I don't use one and not interested in overclocking ...maybe later as it gets older but my phone never showed much difference by doing so..... perception. If I played a lot of games my perception might be different.

You need to use this program from the Play Store:

I had issues with the latest busybox though, when it updated the above program stopped working.

Thank you guys!
I've read that it has something to do with drivers, it it right?
Just wondering, is it possible to "mix" settings from the 300TG Rom to the 300T Rom?
Like adding the 3G part of the Wireless & Networks menu from the TG to the 300T...does it make any sense, or am i way off?!

I just installed PPP Widget on my TF300T running stock JB. It's a little unstable but works with my Huawei 1752 modem.
You have to be rooted to use it.
Also it isn't listed as an app, only as a widget. At first I thought it didn't install properly because I couldn't find it in the apps list.

ASUS hinted at this yesterday on FB. Their post "When Mr. Jellybean is in the office, it means something good is coming."

I've learned from the TF101 ICS update - be careful what you wish for!!! For those that don't know, my (and others) TF101 has basically become very un-reliable since they introduced ICS.
While I truly *hope* we don't have such issues with the Jelly Bean upgrade, I certainly don't have a lot of confidence in Asus at this point.
I just hope that they don't rush it and test it properly before releasing it and forcing the upgrade on us (which is exactly what they did with the ICS update on the TF101).
I do know that my TF700 has some of the same ICS issues that the TF101 had (OpenGL out of memory errors, for example, which causes your launcher to go "blank")....

Great! Very exciting news to wake up to!
When Firmware actually starts dropping DON'T FORGET TO!!
*Side load your FLASH PLAYER. If you want flash. It will no longer show up in the Playstore any longer
*Revert back whatever modding/altering to system files just in case Rooters. Only if you want your OTAS to actually complete. Or if running a custom rom it wouldn't work anyways as you already know.
*Don't forget to backup your Root with Voodoo Ota Rootkeeper! You will definitely lose root if you don't
Time to obsessively check every 5 minutes for the update!!!

*sighs* I want all my devices to run Jellybean today, here is to hoping it will happen.
As I'd normally recommend rooting myself, I don't think it's necessary in this case. Why not just install .apk with Flash after allowing unknown sources? I believe it should suffice, although I don't know if it's any different with the JB system of permissions.
No need to root to install Flash on Jelly Bean. At least not on the Nexus 7.

I can confirm - my father just bought a Nexus 7 - I emailed the Flash app to him and he was able to install it and it worked without any rooting or anything.
He used Boat Browser (per my recommendation) - not sure about other browsers, but I assume it work with all expect for Chrome, of course...

To everyone who wants flash, the easy way is to place the apk somewhere on Dropbox/Google Drive/Physical medium and install it from there, also since this week Adobe Flash Player is not available in the Play Store. http://www.pcworld.com/article/260901/android_flash_player_rip_how_to_get_it_now_that_its_gone.html

Everyone remember to backup the files created by titanium backup themselves to a removable SD card or your PC.
As for JB, I am not sure we can expect it for the TF700 right away ... the TF300 is so similar to the nexus 7, I'm sure they only slightly modified their nexus 7 kernel.

It's not available yet we don't have the necessary tools to do so. We need a special kernel used only to boot ubuntu on our tablet we don't have that so its currently not possible.

I have been considering making my own rom for the tf700 and thought that it would be nice if I could port the tf701 stock rom or the new CROMI- X rom over to the tf700. Is this even possible? I thought that if I swapped out the kernel and the drivers that it should work is this true?

It indeed belongs in the general section.
Rom can't that easy be ported because SOC is totally different and it would bring simply too much work and even maybe it is impossible.
You may be able to port parts of the framework but it would be a massive amount of work. One issue is the files are much larger in the TF701T ROM due to the higher resolution meaning that even after you massively deboat the stock firmware it is hard to fit into the system partition. It is possible to maybe get it running on rom2sd but considering thee minimal changes in 4.3 over 4.2 I don't consider the effort and amount of debugging worth it. Don't forget we have a boot loader and kernel for 4.2 so there is some work to do first to get it to even boot.
Feel free to have a go though
