GarminFone - General Topics

Hi I have a garmin fone and it has totally freezed up. A screen with the little dude comes on with a triangle and an ! in it. It says on the screen the following:
andriod system recovery <2e>
Android system recovery utility
rebbot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cacher partition
E:can't open /data/cache/recovery/command
E:can't open /data/cache/recovery/fota_intent
I can't reboot, it wont come up on my computer when I plug it in. Is there anything I can do to fix?
Thanks

What did you do in the first place?
Things like this don't happen for no reason

google and see if theres a recovery or download mode for your phone then mabie you can fix it

I have no idea, but thats definitely not a good sign. What i would try is to take out the sd card and try booting it. If possible of course, or i would just get a new phone in case your phone died

You can try to download the firmware from Garmin-Asus website (select country, support and your phone model) and flash it if possible. Please take note that all your personal data will be lost. This is the last choice, hope it works.

HELP: is my Magic bricked?

I was running a hero ROM on my device, and wanted to try an Eclair ROM. I wanted to flash it but in the process I saw something like: E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command on the screen. I went ahead and performed a wipe because I read it was harmless. But then the installation was aborted because the file update.zip couldn't be found (even though it was on my phone). So I went ahead and rebooted my device. Now it always gets stuck at the little green android, then he disappears and I get a black screen. The device remains on however and I need to pull out the battery for it to turn off... COULD ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME
After doing all you did your device should boot normally. Obviously it didn't. I don't know what went wrong, but if you boot into recovery you should be able to flash a ROM.
Just make sure you have the right recovery and right ROM files.
I only have that Eclair rom on my device (which can't be flashed).
My PC won't read the SD card anymore so I can't put any rom on it...

Your not bricked... you basically just failed the update process then wiped your current installed rom with the Wipe. Now you rebooted the phone but there's no rom to load. You now see only the boot starting up and hitting the wall with no rom to load.
That makes sense.. How can I fix this issue?
thank you
Would help if you could give us some info on your phone.
Can you enter recovery or fastboot again ?
phone model, spl & radio version ?
this is why Iphones were invented.... For people who cant understand simple directions or even read for that matter.
What recovery do you have? Get another rom, go into recovery, hit the USB toggle switch and put anothe rrom on. It doesnt have to be named update.zip...
Nevermind.. Doesnt matter what I type here you'll go an do what you want anyway.
I have the htc Magic
How do I get to see my radio and spl?
Yes, I can enter recovery mode.
thank you
I can enter fastboot!
RADIO: 3.22.20.17
SPL 1.33.2005
btw it's a 32A
Where is this USB toggle switch??
Android system recovery utility
Use trackball to highlight:
click to select.
reboot system now [Home+Back]
apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]
wipe data/factory reset [Alt+W]
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
That's all I see.
Only the latest recovery has the Usb option in it.

+1 to that.
You wipe your phone, couldn't boot it and you did not know the reason for this. You wiped your ROM, there's nothing to load up when you boot it. It's so simple.

Wow, just wow. If you need spoonfeed after spoonfeed, How in the world did you root your phone in the first place? You run into problems at EVERY step. Honestly, get the iphone (It's not that badddddd of a phone! Just agreeing with what crypt said!) or don't root your phone. You fail to even look for instructions. I don't understand how your PC can't read your SD card? That probably means it's dead (Which means you need a new one) OR the thought of taking it out and plugging it into an sd adapter never occured to you. I bet you even wiped your SD card somehow.
How come you can't put the recovery on your SD card? Or the rom or anything else

And why was the ROM (update.zip) on your phone and not your sd card? I believe that you fail fail fail to look at any instructions the awesome people have posted here. If you fail to follow instructions given on these forums, how will you follow instructions given from members trying to help you? I find it useless to bother helping any further.
I don't have an sd card adapter and since my phone won't start up, my pc won't recognize my device anymore. Take it easy btw, I'm only looking for help
If help is what you're looking for, then go look around under these forums. I suggest you go and buy an adapter as well, it'd help a lot. May even be your only choice. (I believe there's another way but I'm not going to bother with that as it may be too complicated for you. I dont' think it'd work either with your recovery)
I don't mean to be an ass but when questions like this are posted, I hope you understand. It's as bad as asking how to turn your phone on vibrate. The manual is with your phone and everything, take a look or get some common sense and try the volume buttons.
The forum is your manual. You wiped your ROM, well if you think about it, of course it wont boot up all the way. It has nothing to load. Can't put stuff on your sd card? Get an adapter. It's simple.

I thought people would think right away that they would need an sd adapter to somehow get it onto their computer once they have no other choice lol.
okay that's clear, thank u for your time
For now I don't have an sd adapter, so I stuck the sd card in my brother's phone and tried to put the necessary files but now it seems I have to format the sd card.. Is this harmful or should I just go ahead?
I have the latest recovery but I get a popup message on my PC saying I should format the SD card. Will I still have the 'data' file where I need to put the recovery file under?

what ever you have on it will be erased.
You can also use fastboot to flash the recovery without having to import it into the sdcard. I would not recommend it to you do since lack the basic android knowledge. (all the command are listed in the thread i posted earlier)
If I format the SD card, where should I put the recovery.img if there is no /data anymore? (using the reboot method)

[Q] Telus Milestone boot errors / wont recover

Hello,
I have a Telus milestone that I am using on ATT in the USA. Earlier tonight I installed app2sd. Everything was great, then when I restarted my phone it booted up goes to the unlock screen, I slide it to unlock and it gives me all these force closures, I am unabel to get past them. When I go to the Android system recovery and attempt to reflash the firmware it says:
verifying package...
E: failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory).
E: signature verification failed
install aborted.
I am going nuts, last time I had an issue I was able to reflash the firmware through the above process and worked fine. Now I cannot get it to do anything. I cannot get it to flash, and when I let it boot all the way I am unable to get the main screen. any suggestions? I really love this phone and want to get it working again. Please help.......
I forgot to mention, I had launchpro or launcherpro home screen installed. I think that when I installed the app2sd it might have copied that to the card, and now its missing on the device internal memory. That is why its not giving me the main screen or anything beyond just a force close screen.

Sounds like you partitioned your card for apps2sd and wiped out everything that was on it in the process. So any files, media, backups etc you had on the card might be gone now - and also the update.zip from whatever custom recovery you use (skrilax OpenRecovery, G.O.T OpenRecovery, etc) would be gone. I do hope you saved your nandroid backups somewhere else other than on the card itself.
The most direct way back to a bootable phone (as long as you don't mind out wiping any other mods you've made) is to flash an SBF file using RSDLite from the bootloader mode. Try flashing the service version, and if it still won't boot, try flashing the non-service version.
http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone
If you do have a backup you want to restore, or if you just want to undo the apps2sd mod using the function available in the recovery you were using (if it has one), then you will need to place the custom recovery folder and update.zip back on the SD card and then you'll be able to boot into it.
I tried the flash file from the Telus Service version and it failed. I will try the other non service. I did take a look at my sdcard and all my files are still on it. I will use another sdcard for the non service version. Thank you for your help. Will leave reply on what happens. thank you again.
Okay. I have tried both the service and the non service versions. nothing happens. it just says no such file or directory. I am totally stumped. I have tried to reflash with other recoverys GOT and its the same results. I am at a loss as to what to do. Any suggestions?
When I try to do a factory reset it does not do anything, its says wiping, but everything is still on the phone. hmmm... I am at a loss as to what to do.
Okay. I had to download RSD lite, and use the power button / dpad up. I was then able to reflash. Whoo.... thought I was gonna hae a serious panic attack. Thank you for your input. I really apreciate it
You're welcome. The mode which allows RSD Lite to flash is the bootloader. On the Milestone it acts as the "master reset switch" if anything borks too completely.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I have my milestone back to stock rom. I tried to do the app2sd again and it just put the phone in a boot loop. So I just removed it and did another reflash back again.
I have a question though. As I was reading about how to fix my phone last night I came across a modified version of the Telus Milestone firmware called TelusLite. I downloaded it, but it does not have a sbf file. It is a nandroid md5 file and a couple other files. How do I installl it? I tried repeatedly. I even tried the G.O.T. open recovery, I mean I tried to install that by the camera button/power button menu. But it just stops it saying no file or folder found. I am learning a lot about the phone and how it works but I cannot figure out how to install G.O.T. or any other open recovery software. Any help would be appreciated.

[Q] I can't fastboot my Nexus and I ran into "/unable to mount data"

While rooting my nexus my phone went into a TWRP loop of "/unable to mount data". I went to browse around online to look for a solution. This link suggested I install clockwork mod which I did. This made my phone somehow unable to be recognized by my computer. I spend the next 3 hours uninstalling drivers and reinstalling them (SDK included) and nothing works. My computer refuses to acknowledge my phone anymore. My phone claims on bootloader screen that it is still unlocked, and so I have hope for some sort of solution. I looked at a few other methods like the "LG flash tool" but my phone wouldn't go into download mode. I am able to wipe the cache but I can't wipe my data because supposedly it cannot be mounted. I am not sure if I can flash anything at all, clockwork can work but how do I get any files on my phone without bootloader? My phone is on marshmallow and I am not in an economically sound position to buy a new phone. I can provide pictures of my situation if that helps at all.
Any suggestions?

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 stuck in the Samsung screen

Hello,
I've seen quite some threads relating to this fail on the tablet, but all of them were because they were installating some custom ROM or kernel or something like that.
In my case, the charger cable I was using broke, and the tablet ran out of battery. Until then all normal. I buy a new original cable in Amazon, charge it, and then when I turn it on it stays on this screen. I tried pressing the power button for some time, so that it'd turn off but it keeps rebooting. In one of the times, it kinda started up on a screen saying that the encripting could not be completly (I was doing nothing like that so I was like what the hell?) and telling me to return to stock the tablet, losing all the data I might have on it. I accepted so it'd maybe at least reboot normally even if I lost my data, but it keeps rebooting and haven't entered again on such screen. Just one time, it entered in recovery cause a bunch of files could not be loaded, or something like that from what I could read. Unluckily I pressed reboot now and now it wont go again into recovery so don't know which files were the ones giving trouble.
I've never tried any kind of custom ROM, kernel or anything on this tablet, just on my Galaxy Nexus phone, so no idea why it'd brick like this. Looks just so random.
Thanks in advance if anyone could give me a hand on this.

Hi, you should be able to boot into recovery by holding volume down and power. When it gets to splash screen let go of power and continue holding vol. down. Should be able to clear data and cache then reboot. You will loose data, like apps and passwords but it should boot all the way and be ready for set up. Hope it goes well for you.

Hi homephysician,
I tried that, and I just got a green text on the top left corner of the screen saying: 'logo_espresso10.jpg' draw failed.
Edit: I could go into recovery again. Trying to wipe the data and cache.
Edit2: When I tried to wipe cache, it says error and rebooted to the same screen (green text saying 'logo_espresso10.jpg' draw failed.) Anways, when I'm inside the recovery, it says this:

I've no idea on how to do that. Never tried installing another ROM on the tablet. Been looking around the forum, but can't find a tutorial about that so I'm kinda lost.
Gonna try to look for that around, but I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a link or tell me how to do that as well.

you can enter download mode by pressing volume up + power button, if it shows then you can connect it via a usb cable to your pc and try to flash a stock firmware from sammobile.com or find from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309 (this has pretty much good links)
or look for your respective firmware, and then use odin to flash it.
there are many guides, it will take time and patience, everything you need you will find it here, but you should be able to enter into recovery or download mode or even should be able to make your device detected atleast to your pc, hope it's not a corrupted card, then you will need local repairmen.
PS Dont forget to mention and check your device model number, don't use P5100 files on P5113.

Thank you billysam, gonna look for a guide, try that and post the results here.
By the way, my model number is P5100. Guess I gotta install those (can't be any other model).
Edit: My PC can't detect the tablet. I tried entering the download mode, but it only wants to go in this screen saying: Reboot now, apply update from ADB, apply update from external storage, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, apply update from cache. Only way I get the "connected device sound" on Windows is in the 'logo_espresso10.jpg' draw failed. screen, and it doesn't connect really. Nor Kies nor Odin can detect. They get stuck at SetupConnection.
Could I get the firmware in a SDCard, and use the "install from external storage" option?
Edit2: To make it clear, it says: "Installing system update..." -> "No command" -> "Error!" and gets in the recovery screen.
Edit3: I tried from SDCard and nothing, says installing /sdcard but it reboots again into recovery displaying all the same errors as before... Don't know, I think my tablet just bricked itself somehow... :crying:
You have beeen in recovery not download mode. You can not flash files through stock recovery since there is no file signed from samsung.
somehow you're not bricked and it's good that you can enter recovery mode as well, but it's all messed up. don't worry. You should be able to get into download mode, though, maybe you're missing the part to get into download mode, try once again, try differently pressing both up and down + power..
have you installed latest samsung USB drivers?
youre on stock recovery, so it's hard to flash anything unless you're on custom recovery and to get custom recovery installed you need download mode or your tab os running. which is not, check your cable check your USB check your buttons, it should get detected.

Tried all that to get into download mode and nothing... Gonna try now to let the battery die, since I can't switch it off any other way and try from there. Maybe it's because of that. Will edit with the results. And thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it. :good:
Edit: OK, got the tablet into the download mode. Flashed the stock firmware from sammobile with Odin, it sais PASS in green, but the tablet just won't turn on. Dunno if I did something wrong or what. Got it charging, and hoping it's maybe loading the firmware or so...
Edit2: Nothing... Guess it's really bricked now. Doesn't react to any button. Nor gets detected by PC. Guess i ****ed up somewhere in the process...

if you've flashed the correct firmware meant for your specific device, in the right manner, and got success passed in Odin without interruptions, it should boot up eventually..maybe the battery has given up and is not charged up, you can't hard brick a device with a right firmware flash and no interruptions.
hard bricks happens by flashing wrong device firmware.
I would suspect, the battery or the charger? cause you drained it completely and had broken the wire and bought new from amazon, wonder if its really without any fault. ( if you look closely you can see there are 2 type of dark screen..one when the device is actually shut off, which will be complete dark, the second is when there is power, it will have little light to it, I have come across this situation where the device battery was drained out, and it took me a lot of hours to bring it back on charging state...yes, I had flashed custom rom, and battery got low pretty bad and closed, I thought it was bricked but it did turn on)
try keeping your finger on the tablet screen and press power on button.
if its not, then the device emmc has given up or something on your side. (just a guess, it maybe is not, don't be so sure no matter what)

I plugged it and it doesn't do anything (switched light off just to be sure if the tablet screen would turn on even a bit, but nothing). Gonna do as you say and leave it there for some hours. Sorry I'm just kinda pessimistic about it... But yeah will try to bring it back to life.
I downloaded the firmware from sammobile, from the P5100 page. The latest, and the one from my phone provider (Vodafone, Spain). Used Odin3 v3.07. It showed PASS in green after the process ended. Just that the tablet never rebooted. It should have rebooted alone, but it just switched off and never reacted to any button again. Strange really.
Edit: Well, still nothing. No more ideas on what to do. Kinda giving it up since it doesn't react at all. :/
Does the device react if you plug the cable/tablet in to a computer?? And does the computer react when you plug the tablet in?

Hey guys, my phone recently shut down by itself and now won't turn back on. And, when I try to factory reset the boot menu comes up with this "/misc partition fail" problem. I tried using odin recovery, but when the installation starts, the phone says "fail due to frp lock". Please, help me out with this. model sammsung sm-j530s
You specified your phone doesn't turn on but you're able to access odin and recovery mode? Try flashing the same firmware to your phone via odin and see if that fixes the problem. If not, launch recovery mode via power + volume up + home and hit reset device and reboot the system. What does your phone say when you try to boot it up normally? Does it get stuck on a loop? And this happened by itself? Not trying to accuse you, but were you trying to root the phone or mess with the partitions? Did you download some malicious app or malware came into your phone (Highly doubt but I am trying to find all solutions)?

Nah, didn't try rooting. was downloading a game via play store and it said there was some problem with partitions and told me to factory reset the phone. Then I thought I would lose all the data, so I turned it off thinking it would go away. It didn't, but it now gets stuck on samsung screen and blacks out. Odin didn't help by the way

Do you know what game was it? I have a device over here I can try downloading it on. Though it could have been some malware on your phone pre-existing. Can you at least get to the odin screen? If you flash the same firmware to your phone, it will work. Or if you can go to recovery mode, you can do reset to your device if you're out of options.
