Lower level autobrightness - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Hello dear users and devs.
A little question for you. Are you happy with your SL's brightness level.? Or you just dimming it to lowest level? What are you doing in bright sunlight? or at deep night, doesn't it blinds you?
I'm using CUSTOM AUTOBRIGHTNESS app, it works lovely, but sometimes it picks wrongs level.
Used to be friends with JD ultimate, it has a brightness leveling. But our rouds splitted because of huge wakelocks...
There are a lot of small apps in the market, but I'm not happy with them, just because I'm to lazy to go to home screen, look for the FILTER or app icon and press it. Too much hassle for me, I like it simple and automatically.
So mates, what are you using and what are your suggestions?
I'm creating this topic just because I'm not happy with stock autobrightness leveling.
Good day.

Hello again.
After trying a lot of third part apps, like JD ultimate, screen filter, custom autobrigtness, rootdim, etc I didn't found the right solution.
But after a long search, I did lower values for default autobrightness.
Now I've got 2, 25, 70, 110, 180, 255 values. Works really amassing, now I'm satisfied
Thanks to member LockeOn, I have followed his thread

^^ Thanks man ... sure i'll try this

Can you uploaded your edited framework-res.apk ?

Sure, you will find it here
http://www.sendspace.com/file/9h8qh1
Important : that suits only for gb value pack xwlf2. You will loose yours wallpaper and accounts(Gmail, twitter, fb etc). Don't worry, you'll need to reenter id's again. If that scares you, compile frameworks by yourselves
One more thing : after dalvic cache clearing and fixing permissions - default values reverted back. So I recopied framework file again.
ALWAYS DO BACKUPS FIRST

THanks man, but I was on CM10 and wasnt able to decompile framework, that's what asked for the edited apk. But, now am able to decompile and recompile it. Thanks again for the share.

Question for ROM devs: Can You guys change those values to rom, you're cooking? That would be amazing, because SL got LCD screen and default values are way to hight for such screen (in my opinion)?
Thanks in advance.
Hetalk, I've noticed in cm9/cm10 that as well. Default values for dark environment are way to hight (if autbrightness is used).
Hope, this thread was usefull for someone.
nitinvaid> you mean Lux Auto Brightness? if yes, that is third app, and I don't like it It crashes, eat ram and works sometime not right. I already have tryed it.
One more thing - why use one more app, when you can find the solution inside the system?

How do I increase the font size in Android

I often do not have my glasses and cannot read the screen without them. On WinMo there was a setting to change the default text size. Does such a setting exist in Android?
anyone? 10chars
There is a new app today in the market for *rooted* phones only, called Font Size.
It is still in beta and you'll need to have a good backup first in case of problems. I am running a rooted Nexus one and although it rebooted twice in a row after installation, it now works perfectly.
If you are running a rom with spares parts you can change it with that.

I was searching for something like rhis and worked fine.
Cheers.
sms text size works pretty good, its free and in the market
Or if your rooted and feel comfortable changing things. You can go into the build file ( which is a text file you can view through ES File Explorer and give the App super user abilities ( which you HAVE to change in the settings of the app as when the app boots it's already given those permissions. You need to give it permission to overwrite files ) Go to the System Folder which is located on the phone not the SD Card. Once viewing the build file.. in the middle of the text file you'll see 160 DPI is the default value, just under that are two values ( both stock at 160 ) and you change those. If you go to 180 everything on the phone becomes bigger or 140 and things become smaller ( Apps, text, everything ) then follows the instructions after which is to reboot the phone...all settings will take place.
Just do NOT change anything else in the build file.
font size
How do i get to the build file? is it in an app or in my 4G.
font size
Hi,
Found the build file and changed from 160 DPI to 180 DPI but when I reboot it does not overwrite the change. How do I get the change to stick.

Attach your build.prop here and I'll take a look at it.
You might need to rename it to .txt or put it in a .zip

How are you editing build.prop?
Also your rom must support DPI changes, not all of them do, which rom is this?
Once you change that number it should NOT get overwritten.
Spare parts will change menu font size, but won't stick after your screen rotates. If you have rotation off you should be fine. Otherwise the CM community is trying to get that option in spare parts to work, but it's not cooperating. Editing build.prop is probably the best bet.
ROM??? this is way out of my league. I tried spare parts but was unclear how to increase fonts. it seemed to only increase font in one menu screen.
not sure how to attach build prop.
DPI changes not just the font, but everything, like if your font gets bigger, so do your icons, menus, etc. That does work if you want that result. If you want to change ONLY your system font size and nothing else, you can go read this info, and change it this way:

If you're running CM7 there should be an option for changing contact text size. I've never used it, but I know it's there.
You should also be asking this in their forum btw

Doesn't anybody else think it's pretty bad this option isn't available by default on Android? Not everybody wants to root their phones. Not everybody knows a 3rd party app for this exists (and it doesn't even seem to work globally for all text to begin with).
Definite downside, in my opinion.

Talk to or email google about it. Actually, I believe there's a request for it somewhere on the aosp features page (something like that) you can star the issue and try to get more people to join it. Maybe google will look into it...

Switching Defy to 200dpi

Ive just installed the tool LCDDensity from Market
Ive tested 160dpi, 200dpi and 280dpi... with the app, and 192dpi manually... why 192 ? its 480/2.5
The 160dpi is buggy (status bar), and 280 make all fonts biggers.... but... 200dpi... its amazing, its like a new phone ! all seems more clear and scrolling faster...
Please see the screen shot and give it a try...
BUT, there is a but... The Phone App (when you click on Phone icon) in my 3.4.2-164 will auto close in 160 and 200dpi. All others apps are working, Contacts, SMS, market and Browser
So, i need to find an alternative (working) Phone app... Where could i find that ?
EDIT: In fact phone app is working if you use the missed call notification in status... Only the first tab "Dialer" will close the app, but you can use Contact list... or Recent List and its working..
to set the setting permanent on reboot :
edit /data/local.prop and add
Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=192
Warning: dont change in local.prop the similar ro.sf.lcddensity which will not works
Also 100dpi will not works (in fact, just prevent the screen init, your phone is running without screen)

Use Dialer One from Market.
Great Dialer.
180dpi is looking good too, only a small "pixel" is missing in menus font tried to reinstall BlurDialer and now app is missing ://
dpi setting is not saved on reboot with LCDDensity
I've found the best setting to be 200. Dialer still works with mine.

I ll try the dialer.apk from this ROM and will report later.

192 is ok for menu fonts
the app is fine but it's not only the stock dialer, CalWidget also bugs with it
For me, editing data/local.prop is not a permanent change. However, editing system/build.prop is persistent across reboots.
My stock dialer works fine.
184 dpi also works (better than 180)
i don't even see ANY difference?
If you do not see any difference, perhaps you are not editing the right file. If it is the right file, you may have mis-typed something.
Note that you would have to reboot your system before the file is parsed/the new settings are used.
i edited nothing, just used the app
Then I suggest you contact the author of the application or read any info/documentation provided about the application.
This thread is not about that app, but about making a manual change, to a system file.
Best of luck.
What does this do exactly ? Is everything smaller ? Bigger ? Easier to read ?

[HOW-TO]Successfully decompile and compile com.htc.resources.apk

This guide assumes you already know how to use apktool and use latest 1.52 version. If you don`t, there are plenty of guides already on XDA.
Latest Sense 5 com.htc.resources.apk and apktool are not great friends. Actually there is a long history of compile issues with this file, but also I managed to fix it usually in the past. I stumbled about some theme threads, who were correctly complaining, that they can`t fully finish their work, since many essentially stuff in HTC`s framework can`t be themed, since com.htc.resources.apk can`t be compiled and as a result many color themes remain incomplete.
So I had a quick look and here is the workaround, which is tested and works.
For those having other apktool issues, it also might pay off looking in my One S apktool issues thread, maybe you will find some ideas to solve other problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642224
Credits:
brut for his awesome apktool
hdneuling for being a great tester and guy
1. First thing you will recognize, when decompiling the "nice" way, apktool will miserably fail. So let`s be the bad guy and brute force decompile
2. Decompile com.htc.resources apk with the following:
PHP:
java -jar apktool.jar d --keep-broken-res com.htc.resources.apk com.htc.resources-decoded
This ignores all errors and decompiles the apk
3. Since the real issues here in reality are only very minor dimens decompile problems, you can now simply delete all unneeded folders with an ERR at the end.
4. Make all necessary edits
5. Now compile the apk as usual, there are different ways to do it - I compile with
PHP:
java -jar apktool.jar b com.htc.resources-decoded
6. Flash and enjoy your work
Good job
Had to look into it, Helmut was desperate
Great Job, and o.k., feeling guilty now :silly:

One thing we noticed when putting together our tranquility rom was that any com.htc.resources, sense 4 and after, was that even when it could be decompiled it was better to hex edit. It caused issues with the rom. The dialer and battery life were affected. There were other performance issues also.

First off, Nice find!! So far the only ill effect I'm noticing is the fonts in settings/display, gestures and buttons doesn't function properly. it changes the font size in certain areas but not system wide like it should. this is the same error we had before, and maybe its because im using the port rom for Evo LTE. I'm looking into it but we couldn't find a resolve for this before.

Just to confirm, this is also the case on the One ROMs themselves as well, not just limited to ports.
To see it clearly, just go into Settings/Display, Gestures and Buttons, and try flicking between small and extra large fonts. When you go back out into the main Settings menu, the font size doesn't change as expected.
Did try to get around this by compiling the images, and dragging them into the stock resources apk. If you do this without renaming some of the 9.pngs back into r.9.pngs, you get SysUI FC, and a messed up lockscreen. With those corrections made, everything boots fine, but Dialer FCs and several Settings menu options also FC.
Next thing to try is using villaintheme to insert the altered pngs directly on-device....
Edit: yup, using villaintheme seems to give the best result. No app FCs and no text resizing issue. Just means we still need to hex edit to change any of the values xmls.
At least the recompile workaround gives us a way to easily test resource edits. Thanks again for the heads up!

no problem, Ive dug in settings and com.htc.resources and see no link in the two. Not arrays, dimens, nothing. all the arrays and sizes for the different fonts are in settings so i dont understand why that would be affected. If i find afix/workaraound ill post it here.
Noticed the fontsize-problem before de/compiling com.htc.resources.apk too, dont know if it works on Stock because i never booted Stock ^^
Besides this, my edited com.htc.resources.apks are still working without problems, even with ROMs based on 1.29.401.1/2

[Q] How to lower minimum backlight brightness on android 4.2.2?

I'd like to lower brightness level of display below its factory minimum.
I tried to edit values in framework-res.apk/res/values/arrays.xml

But my decompiled "framework-res.apk" does not have the directory "/res/values" at all!

Do not offer apps like "Screen Filter" because I wanna save the battery.

Thank you, but I wanna save the battery life.
LUX app DO NOT lower the system brightness. This program just puts a dark semitransparent layer on the top of other apps.
And thus creates visibility of brightness reduction. I underline - only VISIBILITY.
"Screen Filter" and other similar apps do the same trick.
BUT!
I want to reduce the value of SYSTEM brightness.
I wanna dig the firmware but I have no so much knowledge.

Damn man, we're looking for exactly the same thing! Those apps which only put dark layers really don't help at alland I would rather keep the original brightness instead of the distorted visual experience. I've been struggling on my android 4.3 system for a long time and I still didn't find the correct way to solve this problem. The app I use to adjust the brightness only worked on the 4.1 system long time ago and it wouldn't go below 15% since then. I tried editing many system files but I still didn't find the right way...

This app help fix SIII Gyroscope accuracy or just let me see the sensors? Please can you add calibrate or i need to send my SIII to repair?
Hi,
Just bought the Pro version as I am impressed with your work
Do you plan to add multi-core infos (activities, frequencies,...) ?
Is there a way to record all the infos ? Live or in background ?
It can be interresting to record infos (bearing, GPS, Gyroscope) in, for exemple, CVS format.
A possible use would be recording a car race and get stats by lap
It could be usefull too to record frequencies of CPUs.
I tested all functions and all work flawlessly on my Xperia Z (see details in my signature).
Just noticed it is possible to stop sampling by touching the screen but cannot resume sampling the same way...
BTW : if you need translation in French, feel free to send a list
BTW (bis) : Congrats, you made it to XDA Portal !!!
I am working on a recording feature but it will take some time as my main priority currently is for fixing bugs on some devices and optimizing for tablets.
Also stop sampling is a way to review the sensor values on tap however it is impossible to resume the values from there tapping again to resume will reset the graph to initial values so that why I didn't integrate it.
Thanks for your feedback.
Great app! It will replace my 2-3 app I am used too.
Could it be possible to add a black font option (amoled-battery-use-wise)?
Thanks
very cool
I just started using this, very nice. It works on my galaxy tab 3 7.0 with Goodness ROM but not on my HTC ONE running ViperOne. The HTC is where I really want to use it but it uses a custom kernel. I will send them a message about it but I dont know how much they will do, they are some busy people working on a great ROM. Nice app for anyone who never has enough information about their device!

Maybe people dont know about it. I just happened to read the article on XDA which I almost never do. Also a lot of people are using custom kernels. If they get the message about contacting rom developer they may not go any further. I am not sure what needs to done by the developer to get this app to work with their custom kernals but it would be cool. Im sure they get tons of requests.
Maybe something else could be causing the issue on HTC one with custom kernel?
There shouldnt be a issue with app not working with custom kernels.
Anyone else can confirm if they are able to use to use the app with custom kernels?
App works great on custom rom and kernel. Also using xprivacy and we'll obviously app needs access to sensors but no problem or fcs. Haven't used color picker yet (kinda not sure what it's for but I'll just play around I just downloaded it) great work!
