I know there are ways to stop apps from updating on both jailbroken iPhones and on Android. Is there any way to do the same on a Windows Phone?
My Omnia 7 has a modified ROM and is fully unlocked. I have some apps that I want to use older versions, but ofcourse Marketplace alerts me that there is an update. Can I remove something that removes the notification from Marketplace?
The no 1 reason I want to do this is to use the older 2.0 Whats App istead of the poorly update of 2.8.
Thanx!
Well, you don't have to install the update - I've had updates for certain apps sitting in my Marketplace screen for many months. With that said, I don't know of a way to remove the updates from the list.
Well I figured that one out myself... but there has to be some kind of file that holds the versionnumber against marketplace...

Yeah, it's probably in the AppMgr database (like all the other app data). Modifying that DB is theoretically quite possible for a TCB (root) app, but in practice I've only managed a small amount of reading and haven't yet tried any writing to it.

I know that you can push free apps directly to your phone (even those not in the Market on CM6!), but I can't find any way to update those that are out of date. They show up on the "Updates" list on the phone, but when I view them on AppBrain.com they just say "Uninstall." Any way to do this easily?
I'm a bit confused, they show up on the "updates" list where exactly?

On the AppBrain Market Sync app.

OH, my mistake. I think I misread your original title. I don't know of a way to push updates remotely. But I do know that in froyo updates can be set to automatically apply without user intervention (which is what I figure you are really after, the lack of confirming each individually install).
Maybe hypershell could be utilized in conjunction with something else...I believe thats what titanium backup pro utilizes to bypass the user clicks.

I'm trying to find a way to update my apps in CM6 that aren't showing in the Market. I've already confirmed that I'm able to install free apps that aren't showing up for me via AppBrain (sent ChompSMS straight to my EVO and it installed without the Market). Now I just want to update my existing apps.
Is it possible to exclude an application from the Market update list?
I've installed the last "good" last.fm client (a patched 1.6x) that allows streaming, and intend to keep this version since newer versions from market have removed the ability to stream music in sweden (however it's not blocking the servers, so older versions work).
So is it possible to fool Market to not get info on newer versions of an app?
The main reason I want this is to be able to still use the Update all button, and not have to worry about accidently upgrading the last.fm app.
Thanks for any pointers!
Titanium Backup can do this, long press on the app name and select "Detach From Market". Eventually the app seems to come back though and you have to do it again but I haven't seen it happen often.
Thanks for the tip, but I'm unrooted... :/
Being unrooted I don't think there's a way you can do it. Perhaps you can do a temp root and run Titanium Backup and just temp root on boot.
Other then that, I don't think you can. Sorry.
Does anyone know how to remove or disable the marketplace app completely from reg hack?

just one question.
why????
We are trying to use this for business. We do not need anyone to go to marketplace and download apps. Or is there a way to control downloading apps?
Parental controls on a Live ID can prevent the purchase of apps, but I don't know of any way to prevent people from installing free apps. Also, even if you could block app installs on the phone (by blocking the Marketplace), it's still possible to install apps from the PC by using the Zune software.
What is the concern around apps? Smartphones without them are far less useful, and the security model on WP7 is good enough that you don't have to worry that an app will steal sensitive business data or something from elsewhere on the phone.
no, it is impossible... also your application has to be downloaded from marketplace (not good idea to load as dev), and the phone access it for checking updates to apps and everything else...
I can see some concerns: Facebook, FIM, Youtube, etc. If the phone is being used for business, the company may be concerned with employees goofing off through such apps.
Is there any current limit in the registry that we could utilize? A max number of installed apps?
To bad we couldn't create a build that doesn't have the marketplace app in it.
I'm primarily an Android user and own a Samsung Omnia 7 to keep an eye on WinPho7 as it really tempted me in the past but seemed very immature as a platform. I like how it's coming along but I still use my Android handset most of the time. Now that I have that out of the way this should make sense.
Is there any way to force the Marketplace to check for updates to apps? I have a very odd issue where I can't connect to my home wifi using the phone, or more accurately I can connect but it will kill the connection 100% of the time so I tether to my mobile. As a result of that I don't like to tether it too long and want to know if it's possible to force an app update check for installed apps. Thanks for any help offered!
The easiest way is to launch Marketplace, click on the eyeglass button and write the name of your favourites applications you want to check for update...
Or, if you installed WP7applist, there's the "Updates" section and you can scroll it to check which applications came out with an update... Also here you can search like with Marketplace...
Mods, if this question is in the wrong section, please move it.
My Pixel 6a has Google Photos version 6. I want to use a way older version, something around 2.8 or 2.9. Is there a way to install without rooting?
So I take it you have to root to install an older version?
Maybe if the earlier version is compatible with the security level. The older versions weren't designed for scoped storage more than likely.
You can try installing it if the Pixel allows it. On my stock Samsung I can do version swaps by uninstalling the current version then installing the desired one. The next hurdle is preventing it from being auto updated by disabling the updating app or using a firewall to block the update app.
If the phone is running well disabling all updates including firmware isn't an issue... as long as you don't do stupid things security wise. Know the vulnerabilities and take steps to mitigate any known critical ones. This N10+ is still running on Pie and hasn't been updated in 3 years, security simply isn't an issue. Contrary to the Google scare hype. If you allow updates or upgrades you'll be back to square one again.
So give it a shot and play with it.
Thanks. It was easy on Galaxy S8+, since photos wasn't installed standard. As for the Pixel, it won't allow an uninstall.

That's going to be tough then. Wonder if you could trick it with an adb disable of the installed app?
The security level of the older app will likely have the current firmware spurn it though. A 3rd party solution may be your only option. Fun times, huh?
I liked the S4's vid player (10 seconds back/forward) and image editing software better than the N10+'s. I still haven't fully resolve those issues
The retarded stuff these corporations do. Both Google Android and Samsung are going backwards now in terms of functionality and usability. Good cams now though, too bad that's not my smartphone's primary mission
Yes. All this hassle because Google isn't smart enough to put a switch to allow adults to turn on or off a delete confirmation nag screen. If I'm deleting something, I want it gone. Google Photos version 2.17 was the last good version.

You sure you to do that Dave?
Are you really sure you want to do that?
No Hal I changed my mind... let's just kill you instead
Android gets worse like that with every new firmware release. They want to save the dumb bunnies from their twitchy brains.
Its a fact, there's no saving dumb bunnies Gookillâ˜
LMAO!!
Does this help at all?
How to uninstall carrier/OEM bloatware without root access
If you want to get rid of carrier/OEM apps from your phone, here's how you can uninstall bloatware from your device without root access!
www.xda-developers.com
Then go to apkmirror and find the version you want and see if it installs.
Thanks! I'll give that a try.
