[Q] Preventing Market from detecting newer version of app - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Is it possible to exclude an application from the Market update list?
I've installed the last "good" last.fm client (a patched 1.6x) that allows streaming, and intend to keep this version since newer versions from market have removed the ability to stream music in sweden (however it's not blocking the servers, so older versions work).
So is it possible to fool Market to not get info on newer versions of an app?
The main reason I want this is to be able to still use the Update all button, and not have to worry about accidently upgrading the last.fm app.
Thanks for any pointers!

Titanium Backup can do this, long press on the app name and select "Detach From Market". Eventually the app seems to come back though and you have to do it again but I haven't seen it happen often.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm unrooted... :/

Being unrooted I don't think there's a way you can do it. Perhaps you can do a temp root and run Titanium Backup and just temp root on boot.
Other then that, I don't think you can. Sorry.

AppBrain: Any way to update over the web?

I know that you can push free apps directly to your phone (even those not in the Market on CM6!), but I can't find any way to update those that are out of date. They show up on the "Updates" list on the phone, but when I view them on AppBrain.com they just say "Uninstall." Any way to do this easily?
I'm a bit confused, they show up on the "updates" list where exactly?

On the AppBrain Market Sync app.

OH, my mistake. I think I misread your original title. I don't know of a way to push updates remotely. But I do know that in froyo updates can be set to automatically apply without user intervention (which is what I figure you are really after, the lack of confirming each individually install).
Maybe hypershell could be utilized in conjunction with something else...I believe thats what titanium backup pro utilizes to bypass the user clicks.

I'm trying to find a way to update my apps in CM6 that aren't showing in the Market. I've already confirmed that I'm able to install free apps that aren't showing up for me via AppBrain (sent ChompSMS straight to my EVO and it installed without the Market). Now I just want to update my existing apps.

Get non market apps to show in market with update?

Hi, basically what i want to know, is if you can get a non market downloaded app to actually SHOW in the market (so i can be notified of updates etc)
The reason i am asking this is because some developers offer their app free to XDA users, but paid on the market. It's just a bit of an inconvenience not to have it updated when i open the market.
Any thoughts on hwo to do this?

try out superoneclick. Connect your device in debuging mode. Run SuperOneClick and click the allow non market apps option. I use this with my x10. But when I do update it automaticle bring me to the pay-pal.

Doesn't this just let you install non market apps? Because i can already do that with Cyanogenmod.
What i want exactly is apps to show up in the market so i can update it from there
The market uses a server-side database to keep track of what apps you've actually purchased. And I believe client-side it just keeps a running list of what apps you have on your phone. But for purchased apps, the record of the purchase is on the servers. So if you side-load an app that normally costs money on the store, it may recognize that you have the app, but the purchase won't show up.
If it was all client side someone would have come up with a way to do this by now since if it was possible you could trick the store into thinking you've bought pretty much any app you choose.
This depends on the kind of apps you are trying to get notified about.
Market uses server side authentication and lists apps installed on phone using the server database.
If you are trying to update apps that are not available in your region, you can use Market Enabler or Root Toolbox and emulate another region/carrier and get the app. You have to install the app this way and whenever there's an update, you will be prompted but every time you want to update, you will have to change the region.
If you are trying to gets apps that are paid apps in the market and you didn't buy them on the market and you obtained it via other means(including apps like Autostarts which is open source but paid in app allowing you to compile a copy for yourself free of charge), you cannot make the market recognize them. However, you can use App Update Notifier(free app on market) to get notified whenever the app is updated.

*facepalm* Makes perfect sense that it would all be done server side for aunthentication reasons.
I will have a look at that app, cheers
You could also try the client from Appbrain:
appbrain.com/info/getting-started
Found another stand-alone app:
www.androidpit.de/de/android/market/apps/app/de.goddchen.android.appupdate/App-Update-Notifier
As long as the app is available in the market you can, after you have installed the apps just clear the data and cache for the market the reload the market and they will be in your list, but if there pay apps and you haven't paid for them you can't update them.
Black markets will do this for you

[Q] Update apps in market?

I use mybackup root to restore my apps whenever i change roms and i just hate having to update all of them manually when i have auto update on. Market doesnt see those app's. So i was wondering was there a way to get market to recognize them so it updates them.
I know that Tiatanium backup can link apps to the android market, not sure if it works though... And it requires the paid version. You could just get that through erm... other means... just to test it of course
Speaking from personal experience now.
If you buy Titanium Backup you won't regret it. It's cheap for what it does, and that is getting you up and running within 10 minutes of flashing a new ROM, especially useful for someone flashing every couple of days. It can batch backup and restore, link apps to market, and also break links, do automatic backups according to a schedule, upload backups to dropbox and so on. It's simple to use and for a good app, it's nice to support the devs. The paid version is not only a donate, but it gives you more features and the support is great.

Titanium backup to transfer apps from phone

Hi,
just unlocked and rooted my tf700 and have installed TB. If i restore from a backup on my phone, I presume I'm gonna get the mobile version of apps rather than tablet.
When I then go on the market would it update to the correct versions?
Thanks
Whatever you backed up is what you'll have on the tablet.
I haven't seen any option in Market (Play) to update to the tablet version.
Play is not that 'smart' so you'll have to do the search yourself.
If you use the same log in info on your tablet you should be able to see what you've paid for and/or downloaded to your phone.

Yeh,,thats what I ended up doing. Just a pain that I will have to enter login details etc for everythg again!
as the first post says. Just depends how the apps is designed. I did it for MLB At Bat 2012. In the backup, it was designed for tablets, so no magnifying that the TF700T does with other apps.
I did exactly this, brought my backup folder from my droid razr to my tablet and restored user apps only, with data. I have not had any problems so far. The apps seem to automatically detect screen res. There are few apps I'm sure have specific tablet versions, just not any I use. Only difference is I use the app manager in Rom Toolbox Pro, it has always worked better for me restoring apps across different roms and devices.

Just wondering if I'd backed up apps and data via Google whether the transition would be more seamless...

[Q] YouTube Automatic Updates... stop the madness!

I have been searching all over the place for the last several days for an answer to this issue. I hope someone can help with this.
So I decided a few days ago to upgrade my phone (an HTC Sensation) to ICS. It was previously on Gingerbead. I didn't even know the update was available until I was messing around in the settings.
So the upgrade went well. Didn't lose any data and I thought it was great. Until I decided to watch a YouTube video. Then I locked the screen and the video paused. I know it was not doing this before the upgrade. I subscribe to a few YouTube channels that are just people talking, so I turn off the screen and just listen. So I did a search online and found out a lot of other people were complaining about this as well.
So then I came across a forum post stating they were able to downgrade their YouTube app to an older version and get the play while locked functionality back. I found the APK for 2.1.6 and installed it. Worked great, back up and running with lock and listen.
Then I rebooted the phone. Android "helpfully" decides to re-update my YouTube app to the new "improved" version.
I rooted the phone during the process of trying to fix this. So it has S-OFF, root, and Super SU installed. I also put System Tuner on the phone.
Already checked the Play store to make sure updates are disabled there. I don't have updates enabled for any apps.
How can I stop this automatic upgrading? YouTube is a stock app and from what I understand, Android updates these (gmail, maps, youtube, etc) automatically and you can't stop it on the front end. Any ideas? Something I can do in System Tuner?
Thanks.
TL;DR Try using the search function and you might find something called Titanium Backup which can 'freeze' apps.
Already tried it. System Tuner has this feature. Freezing an app removes it from the drawer and will not allow it to run. Not exactly what I want.
Maybe I didn't make that clear enough. Titanium Backup allows you to effectively remove an app from the Play Store update routine, so it will not update anymore.

Thanks for the info. I didn't want to pay for Titanium Backup, but you at least got me going in the right direction. The issue appears to be that YouTube on my phone is marked as a system app and that causes Android to update it automatically regardless of what you select in the Play Store settings. I was able to use an app called "/system/app mover" to convert YouTube to a user app. Now it won't update automatically.

There is an app calls Addons Detector from Play Store, you can use it to turn on and off the auto notification and download.
actually under Play Store, you can browse your preinstalled app and untick the "Allow automatic updating" option.
