First off I'd like to thank h8rift for his amazing port of CM10 to the One XL.
As an experiment, I wanted to test the battery with the screen on at all times and this phone just would not die. I stopped at 15%, but I probably could have hit 9 hours screen time if I let drain a bit more.
For reference, I didn't have mobile data connected as I was on Wi-Fi the entire time. Limited use of the phone, as you can see by the processes.
I am fairly new to whole rooting/unlocking/flashing aspect of Android, but boy am I glad I took the jump.
Looks amazing tho what Rom is it?

So you turned your screen on and let it sit for 17 hours? Not really a "true" benchmark of battery but impressive none the less. Go post this in the battery thread and troll on all the other phones' battery thread saying the HOX is superior
You didn't even use the phone. I can leave my screen on overnight too and see 8 hours screen time. That's hardly "insane" or thread worthy for that matter.
Quit hatin guys....have you had a previous device that could do this? I haven't.

I agree.. I just got the phone as well.. I traded my Samsung Galaxy S3 in for this phone.. and I'm beginning to regret my decision, I could leave the Galaxy off like this guy did and get 1 day 11 hours and 13 mins, obviously from time to time just checking the basics like if I've missed a call or new messages.. and I am happy with that.. but this phone I try doing the same usage and I can get the 11 hours, but not the extra day of usage.. so I'm really disappointed in my decision so far.. this weekend when I get paid again, I'm probably going to trade it back in for the SGS3 .. I love Sense, and I love the update to 4.0.4 Software version 2.20.502.7 It made the phone a hell of a lot more usable in day to day usage.. but it's still not enough to trump the SGS3..
However, if someone can give me good reasons to convince me to stick with the 1X please feel free, it'll save me another $100.. lol.. :laugh:
Yea battery life is important, I was gonna get Galaxy note but instead I got one x... Lol da battery life isn't that significant..

I find it odd you're getting better battery life on the S3 than on the One X, since almost everyone seems to find them fairly comparable. I assume you have the exact same apps installed on both?
Yeah, I'm very specific.. there are certain apps i can't live without and theme-ing i love looking at... I hear it's due to the optimization of the UI.. but I use Nova Launcher anyways.. so it shouldn't really matter.. but I think it has to do with how fast the phones put themselves into "Dormancy mode".. but who knows. well.. other than actual "Developers".. lol.
But I'm can't help but notice the minor differences between the 2 phones.. like another that I just got fed up with is the fact that this phone appears to've been made for Right handers, I'm a lefty, and I can just notice the differences, but anyhow. enough about the phones little foibles ..

That's quite possibly the dumbest thing I've seen said on these forums about the one X. I'm lefty, it works perfect. Fyi, most of the world is right handed.

Sense is a battery hog. Everyone knows it and HTC have done things to lessen the strain on the battery but a SG3 with an extended battery and an aosp ROM is going to give better battery life. That is just a fact. Is the extra battery life worth giving up a way better screen and form factor...that's up to each person. I would rather have the one X.

Dude that's hilarious.. Even I had to laugh at that.. I know it sounds dumb, but if you look at where everything is, in comparison to the SGS3. Try holding the 1X with your left hand and try pressing the Volume rockers, or the Power button.. It's awkward to do,.. And Yes, I completely agree that the majority of the world are Right handed.. but even Apple got it right, try Google-ing the photo for the iPhone Guess what hand they are holding the phone with.. lol.. :silly: j/k but honestly..I do like the phone.. I'm just trying to justify trading the phone back in for the SGS3 to myself, and also pointing out certain things I've noticed.. trust me.. I did the same thing with the SGS3 right before I got rid of it.. I came up with any excuse to get rid of it, and now I want it back.. goes to show you, "Some people just don't know what they really want." ha ha..
Now see I'm a lefty....and I have to disagree here..
Obviously everything is made for righties...but honestly try holding the phone in your right hand and try to hit the power button....I can't do it.
In my left hand it fits perfect so my thumb is on the upper left side and index finger is perfectly aligned to hit the power button. In this same position my middle and ring finger line up perfect for the volume rockers.
Maybe I've just adapted to a righties world....but the hox gives me no issues at all...

Ah, okay, I see how you're holding it.. and yes that does help, up until you actually start scrolling around or texting on the phone and you have to reposition your hands, and that's fine, once you get accustomed to that method.. I'll have to give that a shot for the next couple of days..
Like I said, I'm trying to give this phone a real shot.. so I appreciate all the comments and suggestions..

NP! Glad I could help!
Now when it comes to scrolling...I use my right hand on the right side...thumb under the bottom right corner,middle finger on top right, index finger used for screen interactions for where left hand won't reach...
The same time on the left side I have my index on top left and the rest resting on the back of the device and use my left thumb for scrolling and clicking what I can't reach I use my index from the right...or I'll take my left hand completely off and support it with my right thumb and middle finger and use my left index to scroll etc
Hope that was somewhat useful!
once I need to type a lot I'll switch to landscape usually which is a whole new ball game.

Relevant.
Getting back to the original purpose of this thread, I also have seen major battery life increases on CM10. I set 192MHz/1242MHz as my min/max processor speeds, and Ondemand as the CPU governor. With this setup I never get below 50% after a full day out without charging. Admittedly, I use my phone mostly for audio, so the screen isn't on as much as some other people. Even so, CM10 is a marked improvement over any Sense-based ROM. I don't know if I'll ever go back to any ROM that isn't AOSP based!

Good times! Just for fun I thought I'd call VZW and see if we could swap out the HTC for the Charge given all the ridiculous radio issues. I even went as far to say that the rebooting based on the new update was just the final straw. I'm at day 31 I think. As predicted they said now.
I had to play off like I had lost the phone and couldn't find it when they were asking for my software version! XDA saved the day! I logged on and said, "The 605.7 #?" haha.
I'm a little disappointed with the way this phone has been handled. This topic is probably a waste of time but I wouldn't mind seeing if others gave it a try...

What are these ridiculous radio issues you speak of? The VZ network issues would be trouble for the Charge as well.
I for one think the Thunderbolt is top notch build wise. 4g - LTE is still in it's infancy. The Charge looks to be another cheaper plastic Sammy product that I would never trade for IMHO.
The charge has a wonderful screen.. and a slightly superior battery life.. other than that... I don't think it stacks up to the TB in terms of build quality and aesthetics. I hate the chamfered corners on the bottom.. yuck!
I only have 4G coverage at my work. Regardless of radio I'm constantly cycling between 4G, 3G, Analog, and then no data. I've had to turn off 4G entirely to get any sort of reliable connection.

I have a thunderbolt and I love it. I don't understand the love for the build quality. The charge looks clean an hell and yes it uses a plastic back, but thunderbolt probably the worst build quality phone I have tried in a while. The phone feels like it was slapped together in a hurry. The whole phone squeaks all the time when I press to clean the screen, feels like the sides are going to break. The light leaking from the bottom seal, no I am not talking about looking at it from top. I dont have it but I have seen plenty of people including one of my friends have that problem.
Radio issues are all at verizon's end, you can blame big red for not getting their act together, I still dont get good 4g at my house even though I am in the dead center of coverage. I do however get great 4g everywhere else I am suppose to get 4g.
I think charge has very good build quality.
Thunderbolt a good phone but not so great build quality. Stand peeling off, Light leaking through the bottom edge, screen is not flushed against the sides, I had water get in on top while trying to install zag screen protector but it only got behind the verizon logo and didn't get on the screen.
I look at the evo, the screen looks like it blends in with the body of the phone alot better than it does with the thunderbolt. Few of my friends have it, the glass quality used on the evo looks much superior than the thunderbolt.
My Thunderbolt has none of those issues. Coming from the Atrix its a tank in the best possible way.

Man all this talk about the tb's build quality is really hard to understand for me. I love the quality and if it werent for wanting to keep my phones in good condition. I would rock it without a case to show it off. Shes a beauty.
I paid full retail for mine the day it launched and since then i have been able to sleep at night. Even with that ugly charge from a non supportive manufacturer being announced. And it does look uglier with extended battery. I didn't think it could look uglier. Coming from 4 years of RIM brainwash im more than happy with my ThunderBolt.

I've heard of a butterface before, but the Charge is an "everything butterface" of the phone world. Egads, it looks like one of those concept cars you look at and hope they never actually make.
I do hope Samsung starts making phones with excellent build quality because it will benefit us all if we have more alternatives, but until they do I don't think I'll own another one.

I'm so excited at this phone is a huge upgrade for me... my last phone was the LG GT540
No issuses with phone othe than speaker not loud as my old phone which I's due to 2.3 which can be fixed once you flash.a custom rom don't keep it stock flash and enjoy cause there's some.really good roms out there that help battery last longer and make the phone prettier to look at. I like coredroid roms but theres also nice rooms that don't use sense ui which was nice to just youtube stuff.

Bluetooth sucks. Its a design flaw, don't expect good bt performance with this phone. Other than that its great.
For me, and I've heard from others, there is really only 2 things that bother me.
1.) My phone squeaks when you squeeze the bottom part, no idea why.. it's 100% brand new few days old.
2.) When unlocking by moving the ring up, I usually have to touch and drag it 3 times or so until it finally moves...
Otherwise the phone is awesome! The battery can get very hot while gaming though, you can really feel it, I rooted my phone, and it's overclocked so when I play a game for 10+ mins it gets so hot it almost feels like im touching a metal pole that has been in 100 degree heat for an hour.
Please hit thanks if I helped you! Just takes a click

It'll always happen as the case is separate from the phone itself. Mine creaks but I really couldn't care less
Mine doesn't creak nearly as much as it used to. So far I have no problems. I did notice the smallest amount of dust particles under the screen but it's literally almost impossible to see. However some people have posted some truly terrible pictures on here showing a crazy amount of dust.
This really is a superb phone.

First off, this is a good phone. But, unfortunately there is a couple of things wrong with it
I have come in direct contact with 5 different Sensations. Here's my experiences:
1. One of them had dust under the screen - I believe this is not an issue with new Sensations.
2. Two had a lousy power button - It becomes too soft and hard to press on some models. Lousy build quality there.
3. Two had the touchscreen issue - This is a serious one, but we have it fixed here on XDA... For the most part. Again, build quality?
4. Three creaked when pressed - My 5 year old nokia felt better under pressure. This is fixable with a larger battery.
5. Screens varied significantly - Don't know which screen I'd pick... Some had better viewing angles, some better contrast, or sharpness, or whatever...
6. Sense lagged more than I'd like on all of them - Maybe I want the impossible? No lag on my 1.5Ghz while scrolling through home screens? :|
7. WiFi death grip - I can live with this one.
I probably went into more detail than I should... Sorry
It's a good phone for the most part. I just expected way more from HTC (and for my money) and now I'm a bit disappointed...
Ok guys,reading all abouth your posts and all and after around a month of deciding which phone to buy for ideal size not like one x or s3
which are pricy like some good PC or smtg like that this phone just showed very nice with battery and all,
made me go away from sony xs (big-thinker than 1s),sony xp smaller battery and dont wanna get s2 cos its kinda old and all.
1s best allrounder,battery which is very important for me,I wanted to ask u a for me very interesting question..
As I used HD2 when it came around for a year and had to like,wear a charger almost with me cos using it very often,
sometimes to chat for like hours which was draining battery very fast...
But Im curious is this phone better or what ?Cos I send like hmm 100,200sms per day around...So that kinda uses screen allot.
And dont wanna buy phone to use it brighness like hard to see letters at all,why would I harm my eyes :S?I cant buy that :/...So what u think if every 30mins or smtg my screen will go up for 30secs or smtg than after again in 15 or smtg and continuos work" on it will it drain fast?
or I can count to survive a day or smtg?atm using some crapy phone with small screen samsung [email protected] 322,which can last for like days,2,3,4 depends but I fforget to see how many days it can survive so it has to be much.
And hd2 when I had it it was like on 8am full charge,at 16h or earlier or smtg again :/ if I go more on it(true I didnt update rom or do smtg abt battery like from this forums I saw,tought itll go well like that etc etc) so what u think?
will it survive a day with smsing that much?dont wanna buy nokia e6 with idiotic simbian to last it a week without charge..
for some wifi gps some gays maybe sometimes and stuff like that?but that way using all that to get hard stand for 1 day would be good?what u say?and how long can it survive for just texting ,just only just texting with like 50% default brightness or smtg like that ?
And also,had HD2,which I shattered screen twice...realy shame,had it for a year and was all good than droped from a less than 1m high seems right to screen and it was shattered a bit,but when got it repaired
,screen wasnt fiting best in...So I droped it once again :/ and ...screen was shattered like in drop test videos...that was like 300e repair,u do know how much that **** is..... ...could buy another phone ....
and now decided for one s,but affraid its not durable EVEN with case?
Im interested,that some ppl that got it WITH case what can u say when u droped ?and what if I drop it directly on screen?I can say goodbye?
Or just to move to e6 nokia and use stupid dead os symbian and be happy with battery of it....
and durability(cos smaller screen,less chance to shatter) so?cant wait to see your responses
thank you sincerely
The battery is amazing ill post a screen shot of right bleow. Left the phone display on for the better half of today. As far as durability goes I never dropped mine. My gf on the other hand was walking down the steps (concrete) in front of her house, turned back to get something from the house as I was locking the door. Her foot hooked the top step and she hit the floor. She had her phone in her hand and had to release it to break her fall with her hand as the other one was carrying her lunch. All I remember was that it landed face down and it was without a doubt the ugliest slap I ever heard. I remember their wasn't even a bounce. Just a slap and a skid. She and I both have zaggs and d30 cases. I thought it was a goner.... *sigh* but to much surprise after it coming down face first with some speed behind it it was perfectly fine. Not sure if it was the gorilla glass, case, screen protector or all 3 but its still alive and kicking without a scratch on it. You won't be dissapointed!

I unlocked bootloader and rooted the day I got it. Used trickdroids and ledroids Roms so far. My gf is using blackdragon 5.0. All three are very excellent as far as stability and DD use. Trickdroid seems to be giving me the best battery life regardless of the placebo affect

I'm positive it will last that long or longer as I had my screen on all day. If I turned it off it would go much further. You may get similar results with leaving it on 50% and letting it sleep periodically. I posted a screen in torxx's EU trickdroid rom with a day and 6 hrs use. That was a normal work day. 13 hr shift and 3 one hr breaks in-between those 13 hrs. Zaggs are called 'invisishield" and they ate somewhat self healing. The d30 cases and the shields I got when I got the phones from T-Mobile. Check their website or the MP. You'll find them!

And that's not a typo, I used trickdroids EU rom on a tmous phone before he had the tmous thread. I posted pics of that as well. Very solid phone and very solid devs behind it!!! Only thing we need now is the source code. I'm positive it will shine along side the s3 when that drops.

Im not here to bullsh*t people. I'm not a dev or HTC spokesman. People ask whats going on with someone who uses the phone and what they are doing with it. I just post my experience and results. Take away from it what you want. So many people talk about the batt life. I wonder why....

Thanks allot mate,thanks for your answer and info,can u tell me where are u from ?Cos Im from Serbia and erm how could I buy case and screen protector from tmobile :S cos cant even google it :/ in here :S probably dont exist here..and case looks wonderfull saw some tests,now heard u and very interested in it,cos I can pay even like 100euro's more just to make phone more durable..but that doesnt mean to have it looking like **** like I saw some cases which make from phone old days gps devices like 20mm,25.. thick and stuff.....
So how could I get it anyway?Cos without getting it :/ no way getting phone,as what I saw how screens are easily broken....Im not that alone anymore...with my breaking...Seems ppl realy struggle with it :/...Damn cant wait to post on htc forum or other manufacturer for their workers to answer me,did they ever happened to have phone droped and what happened...In factory and stuff and HOW THE **** they let those phone leave factories and be like hey very durable phone...come on those older phones can survive ****load of heavy dmging....even directly to the screen ......
So how could I get it :S?
And mate :S there is htc one s case in USA right :S?And in EU :S?
Yeah their are slight differences in phone bodies between EU and us. I live in us. Try amazon, eBay, or their official websites for the case and screen protector. Or try the marketplace on xda. Someone should have either one and happily ship to you. You will probably have to front the money first since you don't have very much rep on here.

Thanks allot,Ive got uncle in Italy,mailed him to see if he can buy me 1 at he's place or anywhere there,cool and thanks allot for info(btw rooting and changing roms kinda aint anything special hard?And how stable they are hmm?)
Just follow step by step instructions. If you don't know what you're doing or run into a term you don't understand, Google it. YouTube will walk you through it. That's what helped me get out of bootlooping on my g1! If you try all that,and it doesn't work, then try again. If that fails and you think you tried everything give a quick comment of what's going on and what you did with the rom you're using. Do not spam dev threads with stuff that has been beaten to death and explained time and time again. Read their first page over and over and over again. Then try it. If that doesn't work wipe away and start all over again. Hope you like your phone mate!!!

Dude you have crazy good battery life. I only get 2-3 hour screen usage amper charge
Does your carrier use a DC-HSPA+(UMTS, with dual carrier HSPA+) in the cell network, because a "4G" is shown in the screen capture. However MSM8260A doesn't support LTE, the only choice for 4G left is DC-HSPA+.
Btw, did you spend the 8 hours watching video?

Its tmous U.S. The "H" network or 3.5 "4g" or whatever they want to call it. I did leave it on and sit just to test out the batt and current set up I'm using. I used the phone when I needed to. No vids just textes (between 30-50 normal use), pic messages, web browsing, flipboard, gaming buzz widget, and I hotspotted for like 15 mins to download some apps to my hd2 from the marketplace. No calls either, but then again who uses their for phone for phone calls

It seems like the comic sans of the phone world to me. Its rounded and ugly. The power button is awkwardly placed on top. The genius button is useless. The other buttons (home/menu/back) shouldn't be tactile buttons at all, are we going backwards? (I guess some of you like it..) the only features I actually like are the front facing camera, and the Alt/Shift indicator lights on the hardware keyboard. And don't get me started on the camera LEDs. There's TWO of them, they should be ten times brighter, when I'm fumbling around at night id like a strong flash light in my pocket. Is it absolutely nessecary to have that ugly appauling "8mp camera" nonsense on the battery door? Gah. I'm literally buying a powermat and the appropriate battery door just so I don't have to look at that eyesore. The whole experience just seems cheap. I guess I'm just butt hurt that my G2 kicked the bucket and I was forced into this phone.
Anyone else? Sorry for my rant.

I am with you 100% on this statement. I hate this phone. I fear I'm going to have to stray from HTC... and I don't like that.
Yes I hate my doubleshot with a passion.

Come on, it's not that bad. I quite like it, it's been about a year or so now, I'm getting used to it. Some of the drawbacks you mentioned can be fixed by looking around on XDA. I miss my G2 at times, but still, I'm fairly happy with the Doubleshot, apart from the fact that HTC kind of skimped on RAM, and that it'll never see stock ICS.
still best in its category
I just don't get how people complain about this phone.
Sliders are becoming obsolete (HTC has said they are not making any more).
Let's look at it objectively. If you have this phone it means you wanted a slider and are on T-Mobile (or you got it as a replacement for an older slider that broke - then you really lucked out not having to pay for an upgrade!).
I personally bought it brand new 6 months ago for $370 (no tax or shipping) and use it with Simple Mobile's $40 everything (2.5G) plan.
For that moderate cost I am getting the perfect form factor (in my opinion) just a little too heavy. A good dual core processor, above average camera, decent screen and a sliding keyboard.
While I wouldn't have minded a slightly larger screen, this is really the best of both worlds. I leave my screen locked in portrait most of the time and it is a great size for one handed use. Then I can slide out the keyboard (mine has decent feedback, the keys are very legible, and Blue made a zip to turn the menu etc keys into direction keys) and type two handed or just use it in landscape for browsing etc. It is also easy to turn the genius button into a regular search button.
I love the track pad (and track pad wake), the fact that I can go directly to camera with shutter button (which many phones lack altogether) and also unlock by sliding open the phone.
As for ROMs I just left ICS splashed to CM9 ICS Alpha 5 and am having a great time.
I have 2 Anker batteries and charger which cost about $28.
What more could you ask for? In fact - liking the slider - where could I go from here?
I biggest, and really only, qualm with the phone is the keyboard itself.

The G2/Desire Z has all those features. Slide, shutter button, ect. When mine finally died (the ribbon cable inbetween the screen and keyboard slideout worn out from sliding) I did my research and was excited that there was a dual-core out there with similar/better specs.
I went from the G1, to the G2 and now the MT4GS and there's a clear difference. I think HTC dropped the ball with overall quality with this one.

Well, by default it turns your device into a hands free object - paired with a bluetooth headset you can do anything with your phone while it's in your pocket.
I don't like nor use the genius function, and so in my rom changed what the key does to the default search function it usually is on a smart phone.
You could do the same with yours, and swap out the function of the button to anything else you want.

This was a bonus for me, I don't like the flat keys on the screen, but rather prefer the tactile feel of the button press. The LG knockoff of this device has the flat buttons and i'm glad HTC went with the choice they did. Yea, count me in the 'like it' camp

This is controlled directly from within the kernel source. Making it brighter is simply changing one variable and compiling - you can go as bright as you want.
Buddy of mine has an HTC inspire, and we noticed his flashlight was brighter by a little bit, and he was getting all "finally found something my phone does better then you" for a bit - well, I found the line in kernel source that determines that and tweaked it.
Hah, it was so funny, we were in a garage one night and needed a flashlight, so of course he pulled his out and started talking smack on mine to the other two of our friends there. He told me to pull mine out and show them, and I refused a couple of times, until he started talking smack on me for not showing them.
Fine, I said, and pulled it out. I tapped the flashlight app, and you'd think the damn sun just came up and fell on the driveway behind us. It was pretty funny and I was giggling about it for a couple of weeks. Now I just harass my friend over his flashlight

Sorry to hear that man - it doesn't matter what you were given, if it wasn't another G2 you'd hate it, and find reasons to hate it, because you weren't through yet with a device you had come to love.
I get it, and feel for you.
Definitely hold onto the slide, it'll grow on you and you'll find you really like it - but in the meantime, why not look into finding a cheap used G2 to help you make the transition?
I am sure you could find one that's in good shape for not too much money if you hunt around a little, craigslist and ebay and such - might even find someone floating around XDA with one to sell.
The only thing I really "hate" about this phone is the fact that it's not going to get ICS. Why is Google standing for HTC just giving up on an Android phone like that? The specs are comparable to anything released today. I just don't get it.
Keyboard is not that great, sure, but nothing that conjures hatred aside from the ICS stuff.

This is exactly how a dissagrement post should look like. Thanks for being civil and expressing your opinion in a humorous manner. :highfive:
I have my Genius button remapped to instantly power off my device. and I knew there had to be some way to increase the brightness, I'll have to do some more digging. heh. :fingers-crossed: Thanks bro!
I too am not overly happy with the mt4gs. This is the replacement i was offered for my G2. The keyboard isnt as nice or it just takes some getting used too. BUT...... Im moving on. Asurion called me about an hour ago to follow up on the replacement phone. After i politely told them i was not happy with it, i was asked what they could do to fix this. I asked them if i could swap the phone for something different. He made a few offers of phones i was not familiar with. Then I asked about the amaze or sensation, he seemed to lean away from the sensation. I settled on the amaze, but did ask about the new s one. He said that would be too much of an upgrade to try and do. So my amaze will be here tomorrow.

My dev computer is a couple hundred miles away in another state, but if I remember right it's in arch/arm/mach-msm/board-doubleshot.c
Somewhere there is a block of code that deals with flash leds, should be [0] and [1] to represent both led lights. You will be able to set the max brightness.
The stock battery issues with this device are the reason HTC was conservative, maybe overly so, with every line of code on this device. Everything is programmed well under spec.
Pretty sure that was the only code you have to mess with, been a while, but that should be it.

I got curious and pulled the original source release - in that file around line 3039 (as far as gedit says, anyways) is the block I was thinking of.
Not sure with the most current source release, I haven't caught up yet. This little netbook I picked up for small stuff on the road bigger then the phone can handle would melt if I tried to compile, so haven't pulled that from HTC yet - it may be different in the most current source release.
Here is what I was looking at:
Code:
static struct pmic8058_led pmic8058_flash_leds[] = {
[0] = {
.name = "camera:flash0",
.max_brightness = 15,
.id = PMIC8058_ID_FLASH_LED_0,
},
[1] = {
.name = "camera:flash1",
.max_brightness = 15,
.id = PMIC8058_ID_FLASH_LED_1,
},
};
Edit:
I had printed out every .c file in mach-msm to physical paper and read it like a book when kernel source was released, so I have little remnants of everything floating around in my head - i just looked back at the file and saw what you meant about the flashlight reference. In this case, though, the intensity for the light was covered around the camera stuff, guess they thought it would be easier that way.

Personally I loved my G2. Great phone, aesthetically awesome. Great quality, besides the spring slide issue. BUT. I have to say although there are some places I would prefer improvement on the MT4GS. It's not a bad phone.
It is a slide for one, maybe keyboard wise not as good as the G2 but still. A slide nonetheless which there are little Android devices that still keep the feature. Another thing? It's a dual-core, certainly not a huge deal but still it'll keep the phone in the game for quite a bit. Uses the S3 with the Adreno 220 which are more than capable CPU and "GPU" in their own regard. Both hold up to the specs of the G-Note.
IDK, maybe that's me but we have many capable devs working hard on ICS, certainly not stock ICS but still ICS nonetheless. Hopefully HTC releases a One series version that will replace the G2 or the MT4GS.
I love this device . I always liked the mytouch line my favorite was the MT4G but this phone is excellent . Ive dropped it soooo many times and it keeps on going . The wider focal length of the camera makes for great pictures . the only thing I dont like is the keyboard and the lack of feedback when a button is pushed.
other than that? Doubleshot is great . Im not going to buy another phone till this one dies
I got the phone as a replacement for my G2 after I went through 4 or 5 of them in a month. The MT4GS isn't a bad phone, but I liked the G2 more. I'm actually thinking about selling this phone and just buying a Galaxy Nexus from Google.
I came from a G1, so this phone is epic. But after working for a connection center, I was spoiled. I've used almost every phone that's came out within the last 18 Months. WinPhone, BlackBerry, iOS, etc.... So I grew to dislike this phone, but not hate it. But it's the only good QWERTY. So I stay with it, I need a QWERTY. Sure the G2 has a nice KB, but why do I want do have a slower phone?
Also a side note. After working as assistant manager, and looking at the sales reports. We never sold any Doubleshots in the 18 months I worked there.

Yea, there are no other phones I would rather want than this, even if it doesn't have the best keyboard...
I love this phone, but the larger size (coming from a GS2) definitely puts a strain on my thumb as I move it up and down the screen, especially to hit the buttons. I don't have small hands, but I don't have large hands either, and this is definitely causing some discomfort after heavy usuage.
So, in case anyone else is experiencing this is well, a nice solution is to install Pie Control from the play store and configure it to provide home, back and menu buttons on the sides of the screen when you swipe. It works great, just takes a while to get into the habit, and it's much quicker and easier than moving all the way to the bottom to press the buttons. It's completely configurable as well.
Lol, gave me a chuckle.
I had a similar situation when I got my s3 coming from an s1. Eventually I got used to the larger screen and just naturally started holding the phone differently. My s4 isn't a great deal bigger than my s3 but it is noticeable. You will all get used to the size in no time at all, I promise.

I had a similar problem going to s3 but I have small hands. I had to get treated for an injury at the base of my palm which was probably due to one-handed use. I kind of avoid using my thumb for scrolling or pressing buttons while holding the phone one-handed. I just use the index finger of the other hand to touch the screen. As a general rule, if you have discomfort using something, don't keep doing it, or take a rest, or find another way to do it. I learned the hard way

Yeah, very true! That's why I'm trying out the Pie Control, so far it's working pretty well. Also alternating by using my left hand when possible.

I tried using Pie Control for a while but it became a bit of an annoyance whenever you didn't want to touch it. Another thing you can do, if your S4 version supports it, is to install an AOSP-based ROM and turn on the soft/virtual keys so that they appear above the capacitive buttons. Then turn off the capacitive buttons and their LED (the hack is found in a Google search). This makes reaching for the buttons easier but at the expense of shorter screen space.
There will be insensitive people here who will scoff at and mock your problems (happened to me before too, just for saying I had small hands), but RSI is a real serious issue and is relevant to this phone, especially as these flagship devices are not going to get any smaller. Not everyone here has large hands.
Anyways I think this should be moved to the Q&A section.. ?

Well, there really isn't a question, just a tip I thought I'd share. Maybe Apps is a better place? (Though I do realize I phrased my topic as a question of course)

Actually the only thing larger on the GS4 is the screen. The phone itself is the same size.

Yes, I realize that. I compared the two when I got my s4. The extra height of the screen is negligible but noticeable. I use my nexus 7 one handed so not a problem for me.
