Switching recovery - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Would any problem arise if I switched recoveries using the ez-recovery app? I used it to flash twrp and I'm just not liking it?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Nope ... that is the beauty of that app.
I am using CWM 6.0.1.2 Touch currently. You can extract the .img file from the .zip or .tar downloads and flash it thru the app, or use any of the preloaded ones.
CWM 5.8.4.9 Touch or 6.0.1.0 work fine ...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

I've lost count of the number of times I've switched recoveries. EZ recovery does make it very easy to do so. And it has made no impact on my phone's performance at all.
But as always, do it on your own risk.

Cant make a nandroid in recovery

Yesterday I rooted my 8013 note with UEALGB software and tried to make a nandroid in high on android cwm. It would reboot recovery everytime i started the backup process. So i flashed TWRP through goo manager app then tried to make a nandroid and the same thing would happen. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
Edit: I just tried to flash the stock recovery and it seems like I am stuck with cwm or twrp. I flashed stock recovery through Odin and it said it was successful but when I reboot into recovery I still have custom recovery.
Edit: Seems to only happen when I try to backup the system partition.

What method did you use to root your Note 10.1?

Zeodmaxs root without recovery first then I went back and flashed high on android cwm through Odin later in the night because I wanted to start playing around with stuff.

The root injected image causes problems. I think you're gonna have to ODIN the original image back on it to fix it. Search around, it's here somewhere.
Go for method #2 next time. Roots without an issue.
Did you flash the the Superuser.zip file after flashing Zedomaxs cwm.tar fie in odin? This is needed to get true root priveleges.
Not sure why you can't reflash a stock rom though, that's how I've always gotten rid of root access to revert back to stock...

I didn't flash the superuser.zip. I have root while in android though. I will try to flash it and see if that helps.

[Q] Multiple Recoveries?

I currently have a stock, rooted, unlocked SGS3 with CWM Ver 6.0.1.2. I also have EZ Recovery installed. I'm curious about TWRP, can I install it and have multiple recoveries or are the recoveries a one at a time deal?
Thanks
There one at a time. Just flash one and test it out. Don't like it, flash another. Currently I'm enjoying CWM.

cwm is my favorite.

You can flash whatever recovery you want with either rom manager or ez recovery. I like the touch version of cwm recovery.
Also if you have a custom recovery you cannot receive OTA updates

If I flash TWRP, will it overwrite my current CWM? Or do I need to remove it first? Also, could I flash it from within CWM or would that break something?
Thanks

No, you can install CWM using Rom manager. You can install TWRP using GooManager (tap Menu, then install Openscriptrecovery) You can also install either through EZ Recovery if you have the img file.

You might want to update your cwm.

A small rooting dilema

Hello everyone, I'm completely new to androids and I recently rooted my phone with CF's Auto Root.
I've been scouring the forum for information on how to resolve my problem but none that really help me with my specific problem
I want to re root with clockwork but can't find anything on it
Can someone help me out here? Sorry for sounding really dumb, I just switched over from apple this stuff is a completely different world to me
Completly factory reset your phone n try rooting again . If it fails, you need to root using the same software as you did earlier

So with my original method I've rerooted my phone. How do I install clockwork mod on a rooted phone if it wasn't installed in the rooting process?
Take a look at the "goo manager " app and TWRP instead of CWM.
But CWM also has an easy install app if your phone is supported. Just see if it is or not and go from there either way.

Thanks for answering Pennycake.
I'm on Rogers Carrier OEM firmware right now and I'd like to flash the international firmware as to rid bloatware to my Note 2.
Which app would you recommend me to backup my rom with?
I've successfully rerooted, I found the problem with my phone. After it had been unrooted it needed to be rebooted in order for some effects to take change. So through the original method of CF-Auto Root, I rerooted my phone. I've installed the standalone ClockWorkMod app but it doesn't seem to make back ups properly. Through the app I hit back up and it shows the time stamp I hit 'ok' and my phone shuts off and starts up in recovery mode only not in ClockWorkMod but Android system recovery <e3> or something along those lines with only options to: reboot, install updates from adb, wipe data, etc.
What am I doing wrong?
Try installing the recovert img using clockworkmod before backups, because its not an app error, it is a user error. Using chainfires root method means no cwm. Using odin or lemme guess, you have a gs3, unified tool kit you get cwm.

What recovery do you have right now? If it's twrp (team win) do that go with clockwork mod. Twrp (goo manager) is by far (in my opinion) the best and user friendly. But it's your call. And you don't have to un root and re root to do it. You just have to flash the new recovery via bootloader and it will work. For rom choices I personally like jedi xpx and jellybam. With jedi xpx you can overclock the sh*t out of your note 2 to 1920 and it's still stable.
I've used many recoveries and twrp is my choice hands down. And yiu make back ups easier. So dont unroot again and re root. Just download the latest twrp and flash through bootloader. but to each their own

I'm on the Galaxy Note 2 i317m in Canada. Clockworkmod isn't letting me back up, everytime I get the box with the timestamp to create a back up I hit 'ok', my phone reboots into recovery mode and its the stock recovery, so no option to restore. Also when my phone's model isn't listed in the clockworkmod flashing menu within the app. Is my phone not supported? The N7100 is the one listed when it asks you do confirm a phone model.

[REF] List of Custom Recoveries (3-08-14)

Custom Recoveries
This is the most recent list of recoveries for the SCH-i535 Verizon galaxy S3. I will be keeping this up to date to make it easier to find the most recent recoveries for our device.
Installation
CWM and TWRP are .img files and are easiest to install from EZ Recovery or Flashify apps from the play store.
EZ-Recovery
Flashify
Philz is installed by either using odin to flash the .tar.md5 file or by flashing the zip in recovery.
Safestrap is installed through an application.
I don't hold any responsibility of what happens to your phone due to flashing these.
Clockworkmod Recovery
Clockworkmod 6.0.4.3 - 10-21-13
Clockworkmod 6.0.4.5 - 1-1-14
Clockworkmod Touch Recovery
Clockworkmod Touch 6.0.4.3 - 10-21-13
Clockworkmod Touch 6.0.4.5 - 1-1-14
TWRP Recovery

Philz Touch Recovery 6 - v. 6.15.4 - CWM 6.0.4.7 - 2-13-14
Safestrap Recovery
Only use on VRUCML1 base! Modified TWRP with sdcard partitioning ability for custom roms on locked bootloaders.
Safestrap Recovery - TWRP 2.6.3.1 - 1-10-14
Updating the Update-Binary
If you receive a status 7 error when flashing a zip in recovery, pull the update binary from the latest CM nightly. This should be resolved in Philz Recovery as it automatically works around it, but may throw errors in the latest CWM recovery.
Here's how to replace the file:
Unzip the folder
Navigate to META-INF/com/google/android
Replace the older update-binary with the newer one
rezip
This will allow files to flash on the newer recoveries until all developers update the binary on their own zips, or a fix is in place.
I want to thank @andybones for giving me this idea, and giving me permission to make an updated thread.
I also want to thank all the developers of these great recoveries.
I don't always have time to check and see when these are updated, so if someone could reply to this thread or PM me when there's an update that would be great. I'll provide a link for it and update the thread.
Thank you ever since i flashed an aosp rom and created that stupid 0/ folder i javent been able to flash a new recovery. Stuck on TWRP 2.6.0.0 for months

I used flashify to upgrade my recovery from TWRP 2.5.0 to 2.6.3 just fine.
Sent from my Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy SIII, via Tapatalk.
Flashify works fine, I just recommend ez recovery because the interface is very simple and it's made for flashing recoveries only.
It's also made for this specific phone model only and it flashes recoveries more reliably and without any hiccups that I've seen with other recovery apps. I think it's very well made despite it being over a year old.

Sometimes it does that, I usually flash from my internal card and that fixes the problem, try moving the file and try again.
You can tell it was successful because it takes a second to flash, if it doesn't work the notification flash successful will come up instantaneously.

It doesn't even show up from the internal SD card when I'm in recovery. I've tried using ez and flashify and both say the same thing but same results. I've even tried downloading it from the website and it won't even download the img file

Some browsers don't download the file properly, I use Chrome and it works. You should be able to move it to your internal SD card, find it by hitting the ellipses next to custom, and flash it.
If you still can't do it, there's a tar file on their website that you can use to ODIN flash.

Does anybody know of a recovery that will work with a new Verizon GS3? I just got an insurance replacement that is brand new. I can't find a recovery that will mount the internal or external SD card. I was able to root, unlock the bootloader, and install a custom recovery but neither TWRP or CWM will mount the SD cards (or any partitions that I can tell).
It sounds like the guys with the Sprint GS3 have figured it out and I'm wondering if anybody has a modified recovery for the Verizon GS3. Here's the Sprint forum about this issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391616
Any help would be appreciated. I miss my CleanRom!

Can device have more than one recovery?

If I flash a different recovery, will cwm be erased?
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.
Of course! It replaces the old recovery.

So to flash a certain kernel I'll temporarily add the derfuel recovery. And then later I can go back to cwm?
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.
You can only have one recovery.
When flashing kernels they do not replace your recovery. They are separate images.
If you flash TWRP (A different recovery) and you have CWM installed. It will be over written.
The recovery doesn't matter when you flash kernels. Unless the developer states? :s
