Wifi calling cuts out? [Tmo USA] - HTC One S

Hey all,
So I've had the same issue on stock as well as some sense-based roms in that I'm using T-Mobile's wifi calling but I'll be on a call and every few minutes, the audio will cut out for about 5 seconds. Obviously you can miss a lot of a conversation in this time and it gets very annoying. Anyone else having this issue? Any fixes?

Sounds like a WiFi problem, but the WiFi calling feature has it's own issues on the One S with call quality.

I'm currently running TrickDroid (T-Mobile Variant) and I'm having similar issues. Some factors to minimize the dropped calls would be to make sure your Wi-Fi signal is as strong as possible. I thought phone calls wouldn't be too bandwidth intensive but the One S seems to very picky about the conditions it'll maintain the call. I've also had some mild success with using a bluetooth headset.

I solved this problem on my Defy by going into my router setup and changing it from its "mixed mode" default to N or G mode. But my Defy uses Kineto and not the new IMS wifi calling.

i did't noticed this problem.
If you do not use 3g and internet. Try use only 2g signal and edge speed. I heard that's working.

The "Ghost Calls" also appears with 2G only! I think it's an bug in the Baseband! That's the reason why i flashed back to Froyo... On Froyo i never noticed any Ghost call or another Phone bug!

What do you mean with ghost calls? I have experienced that communication freezes completely and only a boot can get it going. With 3G turned off it never happens. After switching off 3G people has stopped complaining about me not answering the phone when they call me.

The O3D is in 2G only mode & everybody that try to call me hears the dial tone but my phone is not ringing.
On 3G/2G auto mode it's the same! The issue is not on every call. Only sometimes.
The next bug with GB is, that the phone don't find the radio signal after a garage etc. without connection. After an reboot everything is fine & the radio signal is ok!
The mobile Internet connection is also not working well! I have full radio signal & HSDPA but the internet is not working! Again reboot & all works well...
With Froyo everything is ok & i have no problems with the Phone function!
21b fixed the data dropping out problem for me and much better battery life. I think when the data drops out the phone eats the battery trying to re-connect.

There is an 8 pages long thread about this problem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1368386
The issue is happening less often when you use 2G only mode but the problem is still there. Also on my device the loss of connectivity doesn't occur only on 3G & mobile data but also with the WiFi.
When I activate the airplane mode and then I switch back, the WiFi fails to reconnect and only after rebooting the problem is solved.
Does anyone have the same issue?

Wifi Calling - Crackle?

I searched everywhere and haven't seen any reports on this.
Does anyone else have serious call quality problems, only when using WIFI calling on T-Mobile? I get a terrible crackle/static fairly often.
I thought at first it was the built-in earpiece but I don't have this problem as soon as I switch off WIFI calling (and call over the 3G network).
What I also thought was interesting, is that when in WIFI calling... I can use my bluetooth headset or speakerphone and have zero interference/cracking sounds.
Let me know if you have any tricks, or if I should get this thing repaired by HTC! Thanks
WiFi Calling Crackling
I'm having the same issues with WiFi calling. I experienced a couple times and thought it might just be a bad connection, but apparently it's more than that. Hopefully the MR update (whenever that is) will address this
Yeah I don't think swapping the handset is going to help this one, hopefully an update comes out soon to address the WIFI calls. And hopefully Skype comes out with one too, because its static as all hell too.
I have the same issue. It was delayed as well. Odd.

I am also having that experience with Skype calls and really bad with video calls and GTA 3. Could it be beats integration?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
Don't think the beats affect calls since its coming through the earpiece. Guess we're going to need some software updates. T-Mobile mentioned there will be an update to address Wifi Calling battery life, maybe they'll sneak a fix in. I've reported it to T-Mo and HTC... You guys should too.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the phone, minus the pain in the butt power button! Its so flush with the case, it is difficult to press.
yea i also heard about a update rolling out looking forward to it
+1
Getting a slight / medium crackle during conversations on wifi. Crystal clear on GSM.
I get the crackle too, any word on a fix?
Just a reply to say I have the same issue on two One S phones from tmobile. I had to set wifi calling to use cell when available, as opposed to using wifi when available. The crackle was so "sharp" and pronounced that I was about to return my phones because it really sounds like a hardware issue/loose speaker parts in the earpiece! Thankfully, it works great with GSM, so it seems to be software only. And, if I need wifi calling in a pinch, I'm willing to put up with the crackles. If I had to rely on it (due to low signal in my house), it would be very frustrating.
Also on wifi calling sometimes callers could not hear me, or I them. That only happened a couple of times to me, but was a major reason I demoted wifi calling.
By the way, this phone is absolutely amazing! Fast, fast, fast, great screen, great battery, great metal shell... would love to remove Sense because it buries all the Google App integration and favors everything else, but that's a personal opinion.
Skeeboe
Yeah the feel and speed of this phone are just incredible. It just seems like there is some software kinks that need to be worked out.
Another one I've run into recently is YouTube links directing me to the mobile site rather than the native app (which is another problem with the 3 dot menu lol).
I hope they don't rush the first update and work to address some of these quirks.
Yea, I had the crackle issue on my first handset (kept having it randomly reboot) but haven't tried on the new handset since it seems they now have to enable the wifi calling feature on the account and my account is to old to enable it...or so they claim.
Wait so is the wifi calling crackle you t-mobile guys in the States get the same as the crackle I get when using Skype on my One S in the UK?
US t-mobile here. skype's crackle is much worse, impossible to deal with. wi-fi crackle is sporadic and annoying.
I'm completely confused about the whole crackle thing now. I've seen and read about your US T-mobile wifi calling which I now understand and skype crackles a heck of a lot for me. So I assumed that it was a VOIP calling problem but I used Viber to call someone over wifi last night and there was no crackle at all on a 30 minute call. Oh well I won't complain about that, would be nice if skype was working for video calls though
I am experiencing the same issue with WiFi calling too, which is a pain because I primarily make my calls over WiFi. It was so bad on a conference call today I had to switch phones. Anyone know if this is a known issue for T-Mo yet, don't want to call into care if they are already aware of it. Also, out of curiosity does anyone know if this was an issue before the most recent firmware update?
Thanks!
it's hard to say if T-Mo knows about it but they didn't acknowledge anything regarding this issue, only the battery drain related to wi-fi calling. all T-Mo US HTC One's suffer from it.
I have reported it twice to TMO, first time I was told they didn't know about it. The second time a few days later, they were aware of the issue but couldn't tell me if/when they were going to push an update out for the crackle issue. If I were u guys I would report it so they may push something quicker rather than having horrible comments about their flagship ICS device!

Just purchased an HTC One S today.
I talked with T-mobile earlier today and showed them the link to the t-mobile support forum thread created for the Wifi calling quality issues (crackling/delay) on the HTC One S.
They told me that they are aware of the problem and it's a known issue. I didn't press them for a timetable to fix it or anything.
Everyone who's experiencing wifi calling issues should at least take a moment to call in to tech support or chat with a t-mobile tech rep.
We need to make sure they address this quickly. I know a lot of people rely on wifi calling on t-mobile in spotty/bad signal areas. I sure do.

WIFI and mobile data handoff?

No ones addressed this. When turning on WiFi and WiFi calling it kills radio and can't be fixed until a reboot. Anyone have this. Also WiFi calling on this thing is horrible, and reception. Want to like this phone but probably getting a gs 2.
I have no wifi calling issues, at all.
So if you turn off wifi calling cell does not come back?
If wifi calling is on it should turn off the radio.
That is normal for wifi calling on the newer software phones. Even my Amaze with ICS does that too.
If you also have wifi calling set to WiFi only it will not get signal back properly until it is rebooted or in range of good enough wifi signal to re-enable.
I'm not seeing this either. wifi calling works fine for me and I haven't seen any problems with the handoff when I go out of range.
What ROM are you running? I'm using stock 1.53
It gets stuck trying to reenable mobile connection and I have to reboot
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
That is odd. For my phone it takes a few seconds to switch from wireless calling to regular cell signal when I turn off WiFi. If you toggle airplane mode on and then off, does your radio work? If not, check to see if your phone has the latest update for it already (under settings->about->software updates, I think). If that doesn't work, I don't know what else to try. You might have a defective unit. (edit: if you haven't rooted it and modified it)
Wireless calling does suck for this phone. I kill my wireless connection when a call drops and call back under good ol' cell reception. Heck, I can't even call voicemail under WiFi calling since the pass code dials don't go through properly. Then again, this is what you're trying to resolve, getting reception after disabling WiFi, so this workaround is not yet possible...
In response to the call quality, I do notice lots of "pops and clicks" in the audio when using wi-fi calling. I have seached the forums and this seems to be a pretty common issue with this phone. I've noticed it on Skype too, which was also a reported issue. Seems there are some bugs to workout on this phone, not too worried about it as its a new phone. Im sure some roms will fix these issues, if there isnt one out there that already does.
I'm using the latest TrickDroid ROM and I've noticed that sometimes the phone does not connect to data when I leave wireless. The wireless call quality is hilariously bad.

WiFi calling and LTE hand over

I came from the OP3 and now have the 8gig/128gig and still using T-MOBILE. When I have my WiFi on, I'm able to make WiFi calls with no problems. But when I go out of range when on a wifi call it will just drop the call instead of handing it over to the carrier (T-Mobile). When I was using the OP3, and making WiFi calls, this would hand over with no issues.
Anyone showing the same behavior? Could this be a network problem or a device issue (that could be fixed with updates)?
Cheers!
Really? Am I the only one? No one has a comment/ideas?
My internet provider is AT&T, if that makes a difference, and I've tried the 2.4 and the 5.0 mhz channels, but it just won't change over to the more reliable source with out dropping the call.

A71 unlocked dropping calls

Hey guys. When in on the phone I constantly can't hear the people I'm calling or they can't hear me. It seems like a dropped call sometimes but they usually comeback. Sometimes it completely drops all the sound but I'm still connected. Any solution for this? I use it on mint mobile or T-Mobiles networks.

Unless you do not need Volte, check if you have Mint APN selected.
U1 has volte enabled by default.
