System settings change on reset - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Has anyone else found system settings changing after turning the phone off and on again?
The main one I tend to notice is the "keep screen on when charging" checkbox but I'm sure there are others.
I'm running the completely stock telstra ROM, not even rooted (I'm waiting for a perfect CM10/AOKP).
Any thoughts?

Cm10 wallpaper settings doesn't stick for me. It changes after reboot but other than that everything else works just fine. I know cm10 and aokp aren't perfect right now but they are stable enough for daily usage. Man I hate sense too much that I rather have an half ass nonsense ROM.

I'm not far off that point trust me. What's the memory management like? Is it the same as on say a Galaxy Nexus or still a bit worse?

[Q] AOKP or CM9?

I'm currently using Milestone 6 AOKP on my Skyrocket and it's pretty great. The only thing is, CM9 released a stable RC for the Skyrocket and i'm wondering if it would be better to switch to CM9 than AOKP? Although I know they have their differences, i'm wondering the Pro's and Con's of each ROM if anyone can think of any.
Thanks!
I'm in the same boat

Aokp is build from cm9. So any feature that cm9 has is pretty much a given in aokp. Aokp has more features added onto it. Personally I prefer aokp. But cm9 is always smooth, fast and simple. The beauty of this is it your choice run em both and decide which you like better:thumbup:

Well the thing is, about AOKP M6, is that it doesn't come with a Music Player, I have to install an app to wake the phone screen for every text. My Messaging always freezes up, randomly shuts off, a whole load of things and I just think i'm going to swap over to CM9 right now to check it out and see how it is.
Oh and also, some of the features on AOKP such as the "Task manager style changing feature" doesn't seem to be anywhere on Milestone 6. Can't find where to actually change the style of it.
Sounds like cm9 is the way to go

I've settled on CM9 mostly because AOKP has a lot of minor bugs that irritate me, i've reported them but have been ignored. One thing is whenever I lock my screen after texting someone, once I receive a text and unlock the screen, the predictions for the keyboard would not pop up. I'd have to close out of the Messaging app and open it back up which is an annoyance if you text a lot.
Plus, AOKP only releases an update/build every....month. Not willing to wait a month just to fix some minor annoyances when I can switch ROMs and fix it in a day. AOKP is still a great ROM, just not for me.

How do you change your Task Manager Style?
And also, i'm on the Release Candidate for the Skyrocket, CM9, and i've encountered no issues thus far. Of course, the screen doesn't light up when a text is received, so it must be ICS related. Other than that, so far so good.
I think I'm going to try cm. Where do you dl latest gapps from?

[Q] Does JellyBean feel *heavy* to anyone? Especially the notification bar?

Hey guys I have been on Knzo's Chocolate with Marmite for a while and while its certainly a great combo, JellyBean just *feels* heavy. Its not slow or anything but it just feels *heavy* you know? Also, the notification bar REALLY lags when I pull it down and its certainly not as fast as ICS. Is anybody experiencing the same problem? Or questions?
Thanks!
Nope

Really? Hmm I don't know I did a full wipe and everything! I mean its smooth but the notification lag really kills the experience :/
I haven't had any lag either.. Not notification bar..
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
I think the heaviness thing is true for the notification tray.. it must be the fact that its not transparent, and the text on top seems a little crowded to me. However, performance is as good as ever.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
It's not just you. It lags really bad on my phone too, whatever the ROM/Kernel combo.
It becomes a whole lot faster when I disable Google Now, however that kind of defeats the object of running JB instead of ICS.
I'm almost certain that it's a limitation of only having 512mb RAM.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Oh.. No.. Mine is lighting responsive! I am using ts5 rom.. Which for me is better than others. Including codename..
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Hmm whats the *ts5* rom? I've tried anything and everything and the notification bar just flat out lags. But everything else is very smooth so it makes going back to ICS kind of hard haha :/
my CM10 is fast and stable
I've tried cm10, aokp jb and slim bean, and while I found slim bean to be the best (by far, the only to not to freeze and reboot with 1.2ghz overclock) of these three, all three of them had the same problem with graphics intensive games (Dead Space, NOVA 3, Modern Combat 3) where they would lag like crazy and the controls would freeze. This NEVER happened with cm9. Games ran incredibly smooth with cm9. BUT...I was so impressed with how far and away better Slim Bean was than the others that I'm going to give Slim ICS a try when I have a chance to flash it.
Other than the graphic intensive games that lag, I think JB is great and loved Google Now, but I can live without it as the ICS roms are (I have found) just as smooth and more usable than the JB roms at this point.

oh sorry about that.. haha.. its actually called "JellyB-TSM 5" but I think around yesterday its already updated to version 6. You can check it out under the nexus s android development section.. For me it is fast.. but some other people might have different experience. So just create a nandroid backup.. and give that ROM a flash.. and see how it turns out.. any problem you can simply revert via nandroid.. hehe.. :good:

Keep switching back to more stable touchwiz roms from CM!

Is anyone else having this problem? As much as I love CM10.1 and etc., I keep finding myself going back to say CleanRom. Does anyone have perfect stability on a 10.1 rom? I lose data, then get that fixed. Then I lose GPS. Just a hassle!

I've been on aosp pretty much from day 1 and don't ever see myself going back. Sure some of the betas and alphas had issues, but I've been on aokp milestone 1 and have 0 issues!! Everything works, and I get over 4 hours of screen time per charge.
Not too mention the unbelievable amount of tweaks that an aosp ROM allows you!!
The only thing I miss is the TW camera, not that the aosp is bad.

There is a milestone for cm10. The 4.2 ROMs are still in beta mode. I have been running cm10 m1 for weeks and everything works perfectly. Like I said 4+ hours of screen time plus all the customizations make it too hard to go back to anything TW based.

Not trying to be a jerk but when people say everything works perfectly and I go into said ROMs thread only to find bugs it annoys me. Can we please work on stating that "it works perfectly for my needs". Right in the first post it points out to possible issues with GPS, call volume, music players, tethering and bluetooth.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you said it yourself "possible issues" it doesn't mean that everyone will have issues. We all know that ROMs behave differently on different phones. What I stated was accurate. CM10 M1 works on my phone with no issues. GPS, call volume, music player tethering and Bluetooth all work with no issues.

Same with me. CM10.1 is great, but if I need to use my phone in an emergency, I want to know I have a phone to rely on. And tethering doesn't work (At least I think it doesn't work).

I may be lucky but I haven't experienced much of the problems people claim in CM10.1. I doubt I'll ever look back at TouchWiz-based roms.
Personally, I've never used CM on any of my devices, I've always used others. For instance, I ran stock unrooted Touchwiz on my S3 for a couple months, then I switched to Liquidsmooth, I had that as my daily driver for at least 6 weeks, but the FC's and data dropouts were too much to bear so I went looking for another ROM, I installed Mean Lean Jellybean Machine Build 4 and loved it, so once Build 5 came out I switched to that, and have been on it ever since! I think I'll be staying on this ROM for awhile.

TouchWiz is actually an awesome oem skin for Android. It gets unfairly attacked because people think AOSP/CM must be better.
My personal experience: after rooting never used cm10.1 went straight to finding a good rom. Used executioner 2.5 liked the feel, speed, and battery life. Felt very stable. Tried cleanrom but started experiencing some bugs, switched quickly. Currently im running superchargedwiz rom kyjelly and it seems very stable i closely compare it to executioner 2.5 although im not getting the same battery life as i was getting on executioner but supercharged is very smooth. If i can figure out ktweakers kernal that came with supercharged, i know its possible to tweak it just right to get the right battery settings. My suggestion if your looking for a good rom to play with try one of these 2.

CM10.1 as a daily driver. Who is pulling this off?

I want to use CM10.1 as a daily driver, but all of the bugs and small nicks make me go back to more developed and stable TW roms. Anyone using 10.1 as a daily? Can you give me your opinions on it? Which rom are you using? What bugs do you notice?
Thank you

The in call volume has been fixed for me so I'm going to run it as a daily driver from now on.
Bluetooth audio is still completely broken I hear but it's not something I depend on or use without going out of my way.
Unless some other huge bug manifests, all is going pretty well.
So far there are two main issues that make me consider going back to TW:
1. Sometimes when I interrupt a game from loading, the entire system is laggy as hell until I reboot
2. There is a small delay when answering the phone. I don't know who can hear who during that delay, but its annoying nonetheless.
I'm waiting for the stretched image bug to be fixed on multi-window ROMs before I go back to TW though. It's definitely daily driver worthy.

Been daily on mine since the unofficial cm10 back in August, fine here but maybe I just can't stand TW. Only little issue Ive come across that bothers me is sometimes it will think a short press on menu/home is a long press and have to reboot. Bluetooth audio is fine if you go into the build.prop and modify lpa.decode to false

Been using as daily driver since unofficial cm10, lost IMEI and had some pretty good scares but I have been loving it ever since. I would say the only issue for me right now is the screen flickering which can be somewhat fixed by disabling HW overlay, which does not seem to stick through a reboot.
thank you all for the replies. I was running CM10 for a while, but I just resorted back to TW. I can't wait until all the nicks and bugs get sifted out of 10.1. Pure Google is the way to go.

if you are going to "wait for all the nicks and bugs get sifted out", you might always have a wait. Custom ROMs are just that, custom, and sometimes, what works for one phone won't work for another.
Just pick one that you like the features, and learn work arounds or ignore the "nicks and bugs"
Thanks to all the DEVs! I love waving my modded S3 under everyone running stock and asking why their phones can't do what mine does!

I ran liquid's for two weeks or so, but my flashing addiction made me try something else. Went back to AOKP 4.1 but now I'm back on stock TW that I made a few modifications to. I replaced the MMS app and keyboard with AOSP as well as the UI sounds, and I'm fairly content for now. Usually any kind of lags annoys me, but I've found JB Touchwiz to be alright ( I was an avid HTC user prior. Touchwiz is way smoother than Sense.)

I love CM, but lately it seems they have too much going on. The barely got 4.1 working, and came out with the M2 release, and then moved on to 4.2, which is CM 10.1. I prefer to stay with a dev that will tweak their ROM and stick with it until they get it right. That's why I will not use CM anymore. Unless they have hundreds of devs working constantly to keep up with the number of devices they support, they're eventually going to become a ROM that's unreliable. I hope I wrong, but with the S3 they're clearly not completing one OS before moving to another, which makes them a no go IMO.
Battery life has been absolutely incredible for me on 10.1. 9 hours on battery all on 4G with 20 min screen on at 80%

Just flashed the DarthStalker ROM onto my S3 I've had for about 2 weeks now, it works beautifully, I've gotta say. Super fast, native WiFi hotspot/USB tethering, I would highly recommend at least checking it out.

Should I update?

I am currently on Cyanogenmod 9, and I am hearing great progress in Cyanogenmod 10 and 10.1 and also the SlimBean 4.2.2. Should I update to these or wait? What is the difference between slimbean and cm? Cm10 or Cm10.1?
4.1 is has pretty much the same stability as ICS. GPS doesn't work though (the GPS on his device is crap so it doesn't really make a difference). WiFi doesn't work on 4.2, so if you're itching the flash a new ROM id go with the pacman ROM which is 4.1.
Slimbean has more customization options than cm.There really isn't even much of a difference between 4.1 and 4.2, I think there's only lock screen widgets, different notification toggles and offline Google now so you're not really missing out
I'd probably wait as those are all Jellybean based but most still have issues whereas CM9 is pretty stable.
CM10 is Jellybean 4.1.2, most things works but still a bit buggy. Probably not a lot more DEV on this as 10.1 should be the new goal.
CM10.1 is Jellybean 4.2.2, a lot less stuff works but getting there.
Slimbean are just a variation of the above, just slimmed down. They take out all the garbage they can to make it run the best and give us the most space. There is a slimbean 4.1.2 and 4.2.2, both have roughly the same problems as the above ones do.
They're getting closer to getting them working though.

I don't care much for the GPS, it's just that they say that 4G reboots so you have to be on 2G speeds, and 2G is very slow. WiFi doesn't work either. So this makes the phone very internet-less.

Oh makes sense.
I think I'm going to update to SlimBean 4.1.2.
Try out ultragen 1.0.1 it is just so fast
I have flashed every ROM and i keep going back to ultragen. It's super snappy and everything works. Just my two cents

I don't want an GS3 themed phone with all those features it comes with.
Installing themes is insanely easy. It is by far the fastest ROM if you want a ROM pre installed with a theme you like you won't have a good time

Seems like you do care but whatever ultragen is still the fastest out atm and for all those features your talking about i have no clue because ultragen is pretty basic when you compare it to other roms. It only takes moments to make any rom look how you want. It's all about feel and ultragen feels the best imo

Took only 5 mins to make ultragen look completely different. While still being the fastest

I just said I don't care for theme, and how do you know this ROM is the "fastest"?
Easily is the fastest and i know this from personal experience flashing every ROM xda has for this phone. Everyone cares about themes unless you like stock cm9 which is still a theme that can be applied to ultragen so it looking like sg 3 means nothing. Ultragen also can have one of the best battery lifes if you prefer that over performance.

Download jellybean cm theme on the play store. Go to settings>themes and apply it. Bam, you just got ultragen that looks like jellybean

The settings window looks like CM if that's what you mean. Themes only change the look, not the actual functionality.
