What are some good AOSP roms? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I'm currently on CleanRom 4.5 DE. It's a pretty good Rom. Since the evo 4g I have never really liked Sense. I know with aosp roms you loose the camera quality. Any stable roms out that people would recommend?

You could a found this out by looking into the original android development section however, get cm10 its currently the most stable aosp ROM. Jelly bean goodness on ur phone. Sense blows.
Oh and aokp isn't far along either, they're are almost as good as cm10 and only getting better. Try both see which one u like.

Judging by your comment, you are not ready for aosp roms yet

Dont quote me on this but I'm pretty sure our custom sense ROMs are more stable than our AOSP ROMs. I'm a big fan of sense and to give up my precious sense camera is a hard thing to do, the AOSP ROMs arent far enough along yet for me to make that sacrifice. Just my opinion though

I'm pretty new to Android, but after having sense for 2+ months and just today flashing the CM10 beta in the original development forums, I must say I am very much liking it. True there are definitely some kinks to work out most notable to me the camera is different and speakerphone...but other than that, it is very fast and pretty stable. I'll definitely be following development and sticking to this for a few weeks minimum.

I haven't actually received my One X yet (I should next week) but what actually does change with the camera on AOSP ROMs? I'll probably be putting AOKP on it immediately when I receive it, so I was just wondering.

Pray u get it with 1.85 first!!
Sent from my At&T One X on CleanRom 4.5 DE

I personally am I fan of and use AOKP as my daily driver with very few problems. The down is the camera. To fix the problem I keep a back up of the latest sense ROM from XsMagical. So when I have times when I know I will need the camera I can do a quick restore with no problems. It only take a minute or two to back up and restore a ROM on our phones.

So far everyone who has received a One X as a replacement for an S II i777 has received one with 1.85. I'm not even going to get accustomed to Sense. I'm immediately unlocking, rooting, and romming. I really love the pure Android experience since I've had it on my S II. Anyway, what changes does it make to the camera? Does it just change the software (filters, etc) or does it actually change the quality of the photos? Thanks!

AOKP is phenomenal. It is based on CM10, so it is VERY similar, but it is MUCH more customizable

are you getting wakelock issues? my phone on CM10 cannot get into a deep sleep so i'm debating aokp but see that some have similar issues.

About 2 months ago I made the switch to CM10. I was running it for about a week and had to go back to sense. Wakelocks were outrageous. I might give this a go. I've seen pictures taken with an AOSP rom and Ive seen close to Sense quality pictures. Just feel AOSP is so much cleaner and faster. Just hoping alot of the bugs have been fixed. Even wanted to try CM9 but heard it had some issues too.

reccomend a rom?

I was going to try the ICS port but dont want to ruin the true one when its out, plus i read GPS is so so and I need that for my running apps.
Ive tried a few but always lean back to stock, but am getting ancy. Can anyone reccomend a nice clean ROM that works well with all the apps and is good on battery.
I might go back to SuperOSR but wanted something different. Tried CY7, Zulu, and like one or two more.
thanks

Very true, Sad that it's not stable on a developer phone.
For me the best custom ROM is Oxygen, No problems at all.
Cm7 runs very stable for me, even on my old heroc that was barely half the phone this one is, with the same apps/launcher setup.

personally i'd say miui over cm7. i was so frustrated with cm7 i wanted to sell my phone. it's a bit better now but it's so hard to switch back to cm7 after getting used to the dialer, sms app and themability of miui. and the stability. all i ever got from cm7 was reboot loops and phone hangs that made me miss my alarms.

CM7 = Stability issue for some...
Carbon/Oxygen = Stable/recommended...
MIUI = Stable, alternate experience "no pure google".
I juste got my Nexus S, I quickly rooted and and installed CM7. I was use to it: had a Nexus One.
But, I experience some instability/crash. If my latest nightly doesn't fix it I'll try Cabon/Oxygen.

What exactly is different between oxygen and carbon?
I really like oxygen for all that it is how ever I am nit picky and don't like that it has a different boot animation than stock and I can't seem to change it on that rom like I have been able to on others. That being said I am running NSCollab and like it a lot though I do wish it was more clean like oxygen but like that it retains stock boot animation yet has all the features on it that I like. But if anyone knows how to give oxygen a stock boot animation I would jump ship quick.

The only differences iirc is that it is themed and has some speed optimizations. The latest Oxygen includes all these tweaks so the only difference now is the themeing.
in response to the original question, if you want every possible feature and option go for CM. if you want a stock experience Oxygen or GPA19. And even though Ive never used it i would suggest muiu just because its so different to everything else out there

Has it really been fixed or just improved? Does it still kill an app after a certain amount of time? I was under the impression that multitasking was just improved greatly, and only greatly depending on your usage. Works well for some scenarios and not at all for others... Android is killing apps after a certain amount of time no matter what. Probably fixable completely after source though..

Using the Multitasking Mod is an improvement, but by no means fixed. Read up on another thread that the S4 SOC is a little memory hungry too. Hopefully we can claw back some of that RAM while still keeping things stable once the source is released (damn you AT&T).

I realize there are things that still don't work but I have always been under the impression that to be considered a daily drive a ROM must be stable and have mostly everything working. AOKP fits that category. Of course if there is a feature not yet working that is important to an individual then the ROM is not yet ready for that person but in any case when all major functions are working as well as the majority of features I'd say it can be called a daily driver. Wasn't trying to call you out.

At this point I find both of them to be almost equally stable with CM10 narrowly out performing AOKP. I use AOKP because I like it more, but like everyone else I think you should just try both.
Sent from my One X using xda premium
Can only speak for CM10, but it's been a great experience over the last week I've been using it. Camera (stills, video, and panorama) works very, very reliably.
Only one thing to worry about - the 8/19 build and the 8/21 build are almost identical, but the 8/19 build has quieter speaker phone output while the 8/21 build makes the caller's voice quiet on the other end. Personally I went back to the 8/19 build for that reason.
I did enjoy AOKP 6.3/6.4 while I was on it, but I've found CM10 to be a more reliable and polished experience so far. Can't speak for AOKP JB.
I use AOKP,but the best thing to do is to try out both, you can't go wrong with either. To make things better both Devs help each other out which makes it a win for our community. To top things off I believe Rohan is still in high school which shows off his talent and potential.

I have no major issues on the 8/19 build of CM10. Builds after that have some minor issues now that the nightlies have started; they primarily seem to be coming from upstream. I imagine in the next week or so it'll all be cleared up.
I use CM10 as my daily driver now, and I have found it to be a polished Jellybean experience. I flashed AOKP for a few days but found the layout of CM10 to be laid out in a more sensible way. Both have problems but CM10 has a larger community on our XDA forum as of now. The devs of both mods are cooperating to produce two ROMs that allow for the best user experience possible.
The only problem I have found with CM10 is that, when streaming audio, there will be crashes sometimes. It happens once or twice daily. Everything else works smoothly and will only get better as h8 (the CM10 dev) begins to fully incorporate project butter.

No its not, never has been
AOKP is built by using device, vendor and kernel trees used by CM. The framework, applications, etc are based off of AOSP. CM also based on those same things from AOSP.
CM and AOKP are closer to siblings, rather than parent/child.

You will never know unless you try. The deal breaker I grabbed AOKP bec it was running full audio and music in my car bluetooth - for me thats kind of a big deal. AOSP & data speeds

So I've been running CleanROM 5.6 for awhile and it hasn't been updated in awhile. I really want to give AOSP a shot but last time I flashed CM10, I had constant data drops, it was actually pretty bad compared to CleanROM. I was hoping to get some opinions on some AOSP ROMs, data stability being top priority. 4.2 would be great, however I'm ok with flashing an earlier release as long as data works as expected. Thanks

Well, I've used both liquid and carbon enough to run through the motions and the winner wound up being carbon. This is purely based on 4G lte speeds in my area (Philly, PA), I'm not saying one is better because they are both equally unique in their own way, I just tend to have a better signal with carbon, battery life and performance was pretty much a wash.
Hopefully this is useful to those in the same boat

I'm currently on Jelly Beans Build 12 and I absolutely love it. I don't know why but everytime I was on AOSP I found myself missing touchwiz. Although I go back and forth between Beans and Liquid. I loved some of the bells and whistles AOSP had but I keep finding myself coming back to Touchwiz. What are your ideas of the benefits that AOSP has. I find myself missing lock screen widgets and a few of the subtle things in the build.

I think AOSP far outweighs touchwiz in every aspect. TW does have some pretty neat features like gestures and popup widows, however AOSP just feels right, not hacked together like TW. Every Android device should come shipped with it. I don't really see the need for TW, Sense, Blur etc, besides corporate branding.. None of them can hold a candle to pure Google Android IMO.

I've noticed ever since going from a TW ROM (CleanROM 5.0) to an AOSP based ROM (Slim ROM, Carbon ROM, LiquidSmooth and currently ParanoidKANDdroid) that the data connection all around seems weaker than the TW based ROMS. For me all the AOSP ROMS mainained the same 4G speed, and had data drops in all the same areas. Some local area where I live I get great service/4g, others I have no 4g at all and am lucky to have any 3g on top of that. Only downside of the aosp based roms

Should I update?

I am currently on Cyanogenmod 9, and I am hearing great progress in Cyanogenmod 10 and 10.1 and also the SlimBean 4.2.2. Should I update to these or wait? What is the difference between slimbean and cm? Cm10 or Cm10.1?
4.1 is has pretty much the same stability as ICS. GPS doesn't work though (the GPS on his device is crap so it doesn't really make a difference). WiFi doesn't work on 4.2, so if you're itching the flash a new ROM id go with the pacman ROM which is 4.1.
Slimbean has more customization options than cm.There really isn't even much of a difference between 4.1 and 4.2, I think there's only lock screen widgets, different notification toggles and offline Google now so you're not really missing out
I'd probably wait as those are all Jellybean based but most still have issues whereas CM9 is pretty stable.
CM10 is Jellybean 4.1.2, most things works but still a bit buggy. Probably not a lot more DEV on this as 10.1 should be the new goal.
CM10.1 is Jellybean 4.2.2, a lot less stuff works but getting there.
Slimbean are just a variation of the above, just slimmed down. They take out all the garbage they can to make it run the best and give us the most space. There is a slimbean 4.1.2 and 4.2.2, both have roughly the same problems as the above ones do.
They're getting closer to getting them working though.

I don't care much for the GPS, it's just that they say that 4G reboots so you have to be on 2G speeds, and 2G is very slow. WiFi doesn't work either. So this makes the phone very internet-less.

The 4G thing was like 10 versions ago of JB. Works fine now in the latest. Wifi works in CM10/Slimbean 4.1.2, just not the latest but hopefully soon. I've been running the Xperia Slimbean 4.1.2 for the past 3-4 days as my daily usage with no issues.

So there is SlimBean that's like CM but a little more, then there are more SlimBeans that are based off the original SlimBean?!

Slim is based off CM. All custom ROMs are based off CM. Unless there just modified stock.

Oh makes sense.
I think I'm going to update to SlimBean 4.1.2.
Try out ultragen 1.0.1 it is just so fast
I have flashed every ROM and i keep going back to ultragen. It's super snappy and everything works. Just my two cents

I don't want an GS3 themed phone with all those features it comes with.
Installing themes is insanely easy. It is by far the fastest ROM if you want a ROM pre installed with a theme you like you won't have a good time

Seems like you do care but whatever ultragen is still the fastest out atm and for all those features your talking about i have no clue because ultragen is pretty basic when you compare it to other roms. It only takes moments to make any rom look how you want. It's all about feel and ultragen feels the best imo

Took only 5 mins to make ultragen look completely different. While still being the fastest

I just said I don't care for theme, and how do you know this ROM is the "fastest"?
Easily is the fastest and i know this from personal experience flashing every ROM xda has for this phone. Everyone cares about themes unless you like stock cm9 which is still a theme that can be applied to ultragen so it looking like sg 3 means nothing. Ultragen also can have one of the best battery lifes if you prefer that over performance.

Download jellybean cm theme on the play store. Go to settings>themes and apply it. Bam, you just got ultragen that looks like jellybean

The settings window looks like CM if that's what you mean. Themes only change the look, not the actual functionality.
