Will the developers be able to fix up the mess that HTC made of multitasking on this phone once the kernel source is released? It is the one thing that is making me want to return this phone.

neither of those are complete, not daily drivers as of yet, need source then they will be great alternatives.
As far as fixing the MT issue, hard to say. I'd say that once we get source that someone will be able to do something with it ..hopefully..
I'm using cm9 alpha 4 and the multitasking is very improved. I'm impressed with this ROM for not having kernel source everything is very smooth.

Basically every custom rom has multitasking fixed, and there's also scroslers multitasking mod, as someone already mentioned.

AOKP is actually pretty complete and stable. NFC isn't working among other small things, but its a definitely good daily driver.

I'd say AOPK (M6.1) is just fine as a daily driver. It's stable and everything important works. (wifi, data, bluetooth, etc). Multitasking is great on it.

Has it really been fixed or just improved? Does it still kill an app after a certain amount of time? I was under the impression that multitasking was just improved greatly, and only greatly depending on your usage. Works well for some scenarios and not at all for others... Android is killing apps after a certain amount of time no matter what. Probably fixable completely after source though..

Using the Multitasking Mod is an improvement, but by no means fixed. Read up on another thread that the S4 SOC is a little memory hungry too. Hopefully we can claw back some of that RAM while still keeping things stable once the source is released (damn you AT&T).

I realize there are things that still don't work but I have always been under the impression that to be considered a daily drive a ROM must be stable and have mostly everything working. AOKP fits that category. Of course if there is a feature not yet working that is important to an individual then the ROM is not yet ready for that person but in any case when all major functions are working as well as the majority of features I'd say it can be called a daily driver. Wasn't trying to call you out.

and along the same token, your lack of concern for preserving the awesomeness of the camera is your opinion and, I imagine, not one that is held widely by the MT4GS userbase.
one of the selling points of this phone is the camera... and that goes out the window with the AOSP camera app. before this phone, I wouldn't have cared either, but since it has such a capable setup out of the box for being a point and shoot replacement, it seems like a waste to toss that just to get an AOSP rom.
Before jumping to conclusions about the built in Camera software versus the third party camera apps available on the market, we should test them out first.
I'm absolutely certain that there will be apps out there in the future that will be able to control the entire camera in this phone. The only question is when. That being said I only care in so far as being able to turn the flash on and off. I'm usually taking pictures in default settings though I might turn the flash off.
The Sense 3.0 camera app is the same as the one we have on the MT4GS, and as long as we run a version of Sense 3.0 we shouldn't have any problems. AOSP would be nice, but I'd like to have the nice camera functionality, and honestly I loved Virtuous Fusion ROM running Sense 3.0, I can't imagine how fast it would be on this device!
Yeah, the camera is something that I really want working on a custom rom. coming from the cliq though, everything seems fast stock on this phone.
I can't wait for Cyanogenmod on this phone. It really opened up my 3G slide with all kinds of cool stuff. When 3G slides were bearly getting official 2.2 Froyo from HTC, I had gingerbread for a while. I can imagine this bad boy running 3.1 or even the 4.0 that's supposed to be out soon!
Loved CM on my 3G slide, but I *personally* would not want to part with the functionality of the camera. Now if workarounds are discovered than that is a different story.
This phone is so much better out of the box than the 3G slide was though.

Just because something isn't CM7 doesn't mean it isn't a good ROM. People need to pay respect to those developing ROMs other than CM7 and MIUI as well, if it weren't for them we would still be on the stock rom with S-ON. Give this ROM a shot, I've been running it for a while and it is much better than the shipped rom and has full camera functionality.
The reason we don't have cm7 support is because there is no source code yet. You stuck with sense until then. Complain to HTC not within xda.

Wasn't complaining. Was just asking if any work was done. I found this article through a Google search and then did some forum searching after posting. Sad that the source for the kernel has to be released first. But if that ROM is more AOSP and has full camera functionality, it might be worth rooting my phone over.
I'm currently on CleanRom 4.5 DE. It's a pretty good Rom. Since the evo 4g I have never really liked Sense. I know with aosp roms you loose the camera quality. Any stable roms out that people would recommend?

Judging by your comment, you are not ready for aosp roms yet
Dont quote me on this but I'm pretty sure our custom sense ROMs are more stable than our AOSP ROMs. I'm a big fan of sense and to give up my precious sense camera is a hard thing to do, the AOSP ROMs arent far enough along yet for me to make that sacrifice. Just my opinion though
I'm pretty new to Android, but after having sense for 2+ months and just today flashing the CM10 beta in the original development forums, I must say I am very much liking it. True there are definitely some kinks to work out most notable to me the camera is different and speakerphone...but other than that, it is very fast and pretty stable. I'll definitely be following development and sticking to this for a few weeks minimum.
I haven't actually received my One X yet (I should next week) but what actually does change with the camera on AOSP ROMs? I'll probably be putting AOKP on it immediately when I receive it, so I was just wondering.

I personally am I fan of and use AOKP as my daily driver with very few problems. The down is the camera. To fix the problem I keep a back up of the latest sense ROM from XsMagical. So far everyone who has received a One X as a replacement for an S II i777 has received one with 1.85. I'm not even going to get accustomed to Sense. I'm immediately unlocking, rooting, and romming. I really love the pure Android experience since I've had it on my S II. Anyway, what changes does it make to the camera? Does it just change the software (filters, etc) or does it actually change the quality of the photos? Thanks!
AOKP is phenomenal. It is based on CM10, so it is VERY similar, but it is MUCH more customizable
are you getting wakelock issues? my phone on CM10 cannot get into a deep sleep so i'm debating aokp but see that some have similar issues.

Can only speak for CM10, but it's been a great experience over the last week I've been using it. Camera (stills, video, and panorama) works very, very reliably.
Only one thing to worry about - the 8/19 build and the 8/21 build are almost identical, but the 8/19 build has quieter speaker phone output while the 8/21 build makes the caller's voice quiet on the other end. Personally I went back to the 8/19 build for that reason.
I did enjoy AOKP 6.3/6.4 while I was on it, but I've found CM10 to be a more reliable and polished experience so far. Can't speak for AOKP JB.
I use AOKP,but the best thing to do is to try out both, you can't go wrong with either. To make things better both Devs help each other out which makes it a win for our community. To top things off I believe Rohan is still in high school which shows off his talent and potential.

I have no major issues on the 8/19 build of CM10. Builds after that have some minor issues now that the nightlies have started; they primarily seem to be coming from upstream. I imagine in the next week or so it'll all be cleared up.
I use CM10 as my daily driver now, and I have found it to be a polished Jellybean experience. I flashed AOKP for a few days but found the layout of CM10 to be laid out in a more sensible way. Both have problems but CM10 has a larger community on our XDA forum as of now. The devs of both mods are cooperating to produce two ROMs that allow for the best user experience possible.
The only problem I have found with CM10 is that, when streaming audio, there will be crashes sometimes. It happens once or twice daily. Everything else works smoothly and will only get better as h8 (the CM10 dev) begins to fully incorporate project butter.

No its not, never has been
AOKP is built by using device, vendor and kernel trees used by CM. The framework, applications, etc are based off of AOSP. CM also based on those same things from AOSP.
CM and AOKP are closer to siblings, rather than parent/child.

You will never know unless you try. The deal breaker I grabbed AOKP bec it was running full audio and music in my car bluetooth - for me thats kind of a big deal. CM10 is having issues, vincom posted fix for the audio music but not when talking calls in your car. Oh and... I used that fix for the AOKP rom to play my music.
After giving it some time for Jelly Bean to hit developers, I've seen 2 versions of Jelly Bean that work on the Inspire, both of which are variants of JellyTime. There is a CM10 version out there, but the Inspire/Desire is not on their supported list and after installing it I can't get it to boot past the splash screen.
Has anyone seen any other JB ROM's out there? I've seen Randomblame's and Synergy's and I must say both are noticeably faster, faster internet, faster APP install, and improved efficiency overall.
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks!

Those are the two. Since nothing official will be hitting any similar devices it probably won't be a big collection of roms like gb and ics. I bet someday we will see a port of a jelly/sense combo but it will probably be missing stuff so it is actually usable. Our devices are becoming dated compared to jelly bean devices. It's like running windows 7 on an old Athlon. I know I am looking forward to upgrading. My inspire has been a great device, but most of the really great devs have upgraded and moved on, and I can't wait til I can do the same. I've only got 11 more months lol. Keylime(or whatever the k version will be called) will probably be out by then.

My apologies, thanks for moving it. I am new to this.
I've been using randomBlame's jelly bean nightlies for some time now. It is nearly perfect but the one major flaw made me revert back to ice cold sandwich: the screen blacks out when the first sound is initiated after sleep. It's actually a problem with cm10 and it interferes with calls. When that is fixed it will be my new os.

I'm currently using JellyTime R13 and I haven't run on any issues. Great battery life, very fast and the camera bug stated earlier in this post is fixed. Only thing not working is the headset controls, but for me that's not a big deal. I use it as my daily driver. Still has backlight issues I think. Biggest deal killer for me is not supporting all wifi channels...

Well, GB is pretty dead too, according to some here. But at least it's 100% stable. (at least the revenant rom is) But after perusing the JB threads, it would seem that there are still issues to be ironed out. It may be "good enough" for some, but good enough is not good enough for me.
I guess it looks like I'll be staying with GB for as long as possible. The only reason I upgraded to GB was because some apps no longer work on Froyo.
If you actually flash a Jb ROM I'm willing to bet you won't find something you use daily that has any issues I'm using carbon nightly and I don't have any issues....honestly GB doesn't have really any features I couldn't be on GB anymore

OK, please elaborate more. On JB, does flash work? GPS? And what go you mean GB doesn't have any features? I mean, GB works 100% as far as apps and functionality so I'm confused. It does what I ask it to. What would JB give me that GB doesn't? Are you talking about bells and whistles?

I still use GB. I would not describe myself as a heavy user though. I use the phone mostly for the call, text and camera function.
I like my gmail, calendar and contacts sync'ed.
I don't have all the fb, twitter etc
When I tested out JB, I found a few things I liked:
1. gtalk updated better.
2. gmail had other options. Scrollable widget. Calendar had scrollable widget also. Calendar has more detailed display
3. Chrome worked. Native Browser was better.
4. Google body (now defunct-ed) worked..it needed a 3.0+ platform.
5. I don't use it but others like the theme engine.
6. The weather update on the lock screen was a nice touch.
7. The quick launch from the lock screen was neat...although I don't usually use the lock screen.
8. Back up and restore apps is more comprehensive.
9. Google Now and Google Keep is neat to try.
There were others but I forget...
For my phone, I still like the simpler GB interface and the battery life (less processes running means less battery usage)
fwiw, Entropy said his cm9 was stable..and "dead" too. Supposedly he had a more updated one but never release. Supposedly, aremo/he may have a different cm10?..I'm not sure though...
My final thoughts...to each his own...find something that you like...

Thanks for the info. I don't see anything on that list that is a must have though. Hopefully, GB will be supported by app devs until next spring when my contract is up. Carry on.
yeah..nothing must have..just interesting to test.
jb may be a step up in the most updated device designed to run it with support from chip set manufacturer. (ex: gn2, sgs3, sgs4)
for the most part, i prefer a tablet or pc...my phone is mostly a phone/digital assistant...but i suspect i'm a minority here

Well...unless it was fixed recently...camera is still wonky is it not? Stuttering with 720p recording...that's pretty major to a lot of people, although I myself can live with out it...it was a pretty major downside of jb/ics...on the occasion I wanted to get a video I really couldn't :/, but IMHO that one con doesn't weigh out the pros
But you can't say gb doesn't really have any features when they do have a fully working camera...just saying

But most people realize they're not going to be shooting hollywood movies with the thing. I'm not complaining though, it's good enough for what I need.
I thought ICS was the only version for the infuse with working full encryption?
I have 10GB of organized GB Roms/themes, ICS Roms/themes(lost files ), Tweaks for GB/ICS, all old recovery stuff, and 3 open source kernels Samsung had released. I have talked to 3-4 forum moderators for approval and I will be creating around 150 links for the infuse community for lost/broken links and there may/may not be broken but will all be on dev-host 4 u guys. I am hopping this will help u guys b4 I leave. I am hopping to make this post within the next week or 2 in the general section. Cheers
I am also going to be posting all the links to EVERY official post
Note* this is all I have left, I had a partition failure and I lost all I had but these files due to being on DropBox, I am still hopping to retrieve my missing files and Ken has been helping me all the way!=)
