If it's only IMEI number that's missing use the search, there was a thread a while back with someone having the same issue, he got told to edit some file and enter his IMEI from the phone's sticker.

Just install the Alpha 3 rom CyanogenMod 10 Chopsticks eat as usual, but I think the problem arose when trying to unlock the sim with an online payment program, since then insert * # 06 # and IMEI it says null / null

Ok, first off did you follow the other post regarding repairing /efs/imei/keystr file if necessary?
Otherwise, sounds like the hidden EFS partitions are corrupt.
Do you have a recent nandroid backup (prior to the unlock attempt)? If so, check the data.ext4.tar for an efs1.bin, efs2.bin, and efs3.bin located in /data/qcks directory.
If you have the efs?.bin files I can walk you through flashing them back into the EFS partitions on the phone. That'll restore the IMEI.

[Q] Wiped /efs folder

Hello,
Before I go to the Car Phone Warehouse and look stupid, does anyone know if my nexus s is capable of rebuilding the correct nv files and anything else it needs to work properly?
The original IMEI folder is still present. Of course the IMEI number is printed inside the phone.
It does replace some files if I remove them. It's not helping, and I get a default IMEI number.
Without your backup, the IMEI can't be restored.

I've read around that nandroid backups don't store /efs.

SR doesn't have nv_data.bin. Search for 'corrupt efs', there is a thread with the solution.
Try ODIN back to stock. Trying to unlock your phone did you?

Nice, I need to use that more often!
ah, i tried all that option of restoring EFS... no luck.... my IMEI number is still unchanged... WIFI / Bluetooth not working.... Serial number of phone shown as 00000000
it does work and i can make calls/receive... is it possible to restore it from another skyrocket or modify any files
Try:
Dial:
*#197328640#
In service mode menu select:
[6] Common
[6] NV Rebuild
If the bottom of screen says:
Golden-backup exist
You can Restore Cal/NV
Then you can try:
[4] Restore Cal/NV
Then reboot.
DO NOT USE MENU ITEMS 1, 2, or 5 - These will wipe the hidden efs1, efs2, or efs backup partitions.!!!
Proceed at your own risk.
I tried using below option... still IMEI number not changed ...Serial number still showing 0000000
*#197328640#
In service mode menu select:
[6] Common
[6] NV Rebuild
Did you do select [4] Restore Cal/NV and reboot ?
Yes.. i did select [4] Restore Cal/NV and reboot.. is there anyway to rebuild the efs
So what exactly were you doing to the phone that caused the imei to be lost? Rom flash? Deleting files in /efs? Knowing the cause will help with solution. What Rom are you currently on? What file names are in /efs/imei folder?
IMEI folder contains - bt.txt / keystr / mps_code.dat... i set to default nv_ram from dial secret codes.

If I'm understanding correctly, the reason the IMEI was lost in the first place was because you did a 'Load Default NV' from the 'REBUILD NV' menu?
Sorry, but your out of luck. That menu option rebuilds the efs partitions containing the IMEI information stored in mmcblk0p18 and mmcblk0p19 with default values and is not recoverable.
Is there no way to fix this? I'm in the same boat. I have the IMEI number (it's on a sticker on my retail box).........but which file(s) need hex edited to get it back in there? I had to do this with my Sensation once (I believe it was editing mmcblk0p4 5 and 6?).
Any idea on this phone???
If cschmitt says it can't be done.... it probably can't be done.
Sorry!

You don't see them because both of those partitions are encrypted. One is the working copy other is a fail over backup, in case the first is corrupted. They also contains radio calibration data, phone isn't much use without it.
Did you attempt the restore golden backup thing listed a few posts back?

[UNSOLVED] Unknown IMEI/Baseband

LESSON LEARNT (for everyone): Please make sure to do a complete EFS backup before you do anything or you will end up like me!!!
So yeah I flashed Deodex_LF2_Cwm.zip yesterday, trying to deodex my DDFL2.
And following that I experienced total loss of mobile signal, baseband, IMEI, IMEI SV, and phone (*#1234#).
And I haven't been seeing this kinda thing to come, I did not back up EFS. (Yeah brilliant me)
So I tried a few of these:
[GUIDE] Recover your IMEI in 9 steps
Repair IMEI using EFS Pro
Reflashing from latona.pit then XXKPE; for a few times
Flashing stock ROM for Malaysia region (Froyo and GB)
Flashing various Modem.tar (DDLE1, DXKP7, etc) via Odin3 at different ROM levels (XXKPE, DDLF2, even CM10A4)
Restoring Nandroid backup from other SL user (Thanks Rich'Dawg')
But nothing worked so far yet.
Now that I checked the /efs folder is empty and there is only a folder named lost+found.
Some websites said about fixing IMEI for small fees but in cases of blank IMEI (*#06#), chances are only 30%.
And my last resort would be getting it replaced in Samsung service centre or any repair shop, which I suspect that the motherboard would be more expensive than some simple new Android phones.
Leaving this forum for the moment as to collect more money to get a new phone . . . :crying:
Lastly, thanks for all the input. Greatly appreciated.
Do you able to call anyone. ? if yes then no need to change anything. if no then you should search for imei solution on xda. there is some tutorial for fake imei.

no idea of how much it should be.
but a idea to help you,
1st idea:
go in recovery and fix permission.
2nd idea:
you said you flash Deodex LF2 in CWM, it should not touch efs folder. so, very high change of your nv_data.bin file backup still good.
OK. use any file browser look in the efs folder, see if the below file still exiting, (they are hidden file)
check on the file date. is the date older than the date you flash the zip, if yes, this is the one original from your phone.
the file name start with a dot
.nv_data.bak - ( this is your imei backup file) copy and rename the .nv_data.bak to nv_data.bin and set permission and change owner.
.nv_data.bak.md5 - (delete this file first)

I found one .nv_data.bak dated year 1994 , which I think came in when I was trying to flash some efs fixes i found in XDA.
Without much hope I tried what you said, but still nothing happened. IMEI blank, baseband unknown.
Is it possible to have the mobile phone repair shop with RIFF or Jtag or some box thingy to have this done?
i think you must change the motherboard

Good luck sir! As far as I know, if you would choose to replace the motherboard from repair center, it would cost you more or less 80% of the original price of the phone. So it would seem that you have to buy a new one. I hope that a nandroid backup (as stated above) would solve the problem. God bless you! Think positive

[help needed] dead network & blank imei ???

Hello everyone, i recently buyed a used samsung galaxy r. Its in good condition.
But it has one serious issue ie, no network & blank imei number.
I browse google whole day & found that this happening becoz of corrupted efs, i checked efs folder via root explorer, there is no imei folder in it :banghead: i also tried efs backup but nothing done.
Why this issue happening, is there any one who can help me out to resolve my no network issue,
I also went to nearest service center, they told to change the board which cost around rs8500 (indian).
Help me frnds, my galaxy r is without network & blank imei ?????
My last hope is XDA!
Help ???
You cannot fix it without the original EFS. You could ask the seeker if he/she has a backup of the folder. Except restoring the backup, only SSC can fix it.

It makes no sense to create an EFS backup of an already corrupted partition. Also, the imei folder has nothing to do with the actual imei number. It is stored in the nv_data.bin file.

Actually Sir, I format my system partition with odin and flashed stock gb rom 5 to 6 times while resolving my issue, and at time i accidently deleted the contents of EFS folder & reboot but still no network & imei..
So i again flash stock rom via odin & all EFS files(nav_data.bin) again automatically generated, is this normal ????? but no luck to restore my imei & n/w ..
Below is the screenshot of my phone
Yes, the file is generated automatically, but it doesn't know what to generate. So it either generates a fake IMEI or garbage I assume. We would need to know about the internals of the nv_data.bin file to fix it. You have to take it to SSC or someone who knows about the details.
Above method is not working.. any helps please..

Take not that the original /EFS partition - where phone's IMEI and other network stuff is stored - isn't touched when re-flashing Stock ROM or any other ROM, will say re-flashing phone's Stock ROM never brings back a lost IMEI.
You must backup your efs partitions before you begin experimenting and installing things on your device.
In future you can do this (with root) and termux app: type: su (enter) Grant root, type this: dd if=/dev/block/sdf2 of=/sdcard/modemst1.bin bs=2048 (enter)
dd if=/dev/block/sdf3 of=/sdcard/modemst2.bin bs=2048 (enter)
SD card will have backed up files to save on it. All credit for this goes backup method goes to @Funk Wizard where I first learned this on a OnePlus device xda forum. Transfer the backed up files to PC, USB thumb drive, cloud or where ever they're safe. If this ever happens again you can use fastboot from your PC to flash these efs partitions and it will restore your IMEI and your device will work. I do not know of any other way to do this excerpt this way. This is why 8ts so important to always backup your efs when you get your device!
