JB Camera Mod - It works - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30610641#post30610641
Instructions are in page 28...
this camera allows you to change your storage location in JB.....this camera should be in the standard ROMs.

easy install instructios
1. unzip
2. find the gallery2.apk (copy)
3. use root explorer
4. go-to system/apps
5. set R/W
5. rename gallery2.apk (justincase)
6. paste new gallery2.apk
7. install new gallery2.apk
8. reboot
enjoy

Got this to work using the above instructions however after I snap a picture and then click on the preview it takes me back to where the internal sd card pics were saved. I have it set to save to sd card and if I back out of the camera app and then go into the gallery app the picture is there and saved on the external card. May just be a bug Ill have to live with but works great otherwise!

Yeah its a bug. If you store the pics on the internal card you can view while in camera mode. If you choose external card then you have to back out and view pics through the gallery. A small price to pay for such a great camera

Ok that's what I figured. I use my camera to take pictures of fish I catch while on my kayak. I upload them to a site called kayakwars as a contest and for whatever reason when they are stored on internal sd it has issues on the site uploading them. External sd works fine though so thats why its important to me.

[Q] Gallery empties out my photos after reboot?

My photos in my gallery disappear from the gallery but when I check they are under my sd card > DCIM > so I am wonder is there a way to point my pictures so they show up all the time in the gallery? They never did this until I decided to flash which is worth it. I would bet there has to be a way to point our pics to the gallery from the sd card?
Also I have noticed my Videos does the same as well

Wow, weird.
What ROM are you using? Have you tried opening the pictures up through Astro or Root Explorer? Those will usually give you the option to "Open With," and you can choose the gallery. I wonder if that would make the gallery realize the pictures are there.
Also, do you have your phone plugged into USB when this happens? Maybe your sd card is mounted as a drive automatically (instead of charging only), so it's unavailable to read from the phone.

[Q] How to manually set the folder to external_sd for bluetooth and Camera

Hi,
I was wondering how to set the default folder locations of bluetooth incoming traffic and camera pictures to \sdcard\external_sd in SGR.
Is there any utility app which can set these locations to external sd card?
`````
open "camera" app, tap on settings icon, "memory" -> "external" (don't really know how is it on other lang).
here external always defaults to the internal 4 gb rom which is mounted as \sdcard.
I was thinking if there was a way to point this to \sdcard\external_sd
hm... all my photoes are in the \sdcard\external_sd\DCIM folder. 2.3.4 (Russia stock) and 2.3.6 (Austria)
I want an answer to this as well. I am a bit bothered by the 4GB internal SD card as all the games store their data in there and there is no way to move it to the external SD card. 4GB is enough for games but if the camera and video recorder is also bound to it then it is a serious problem with unrooted phones.
In my opinion a phone should have 13GB+ internal SD(16GB phones) or have no internal SD at all.
Comon someone answer please.
As of now I don't know if its possible for the user to decide where to save the downloaded data for the games even in custom ROMS, but you can definitely store the pics & vids directly to the external SD. He are simple the steps.
- Click on the settings icon in the camera app =>Go to Storage & select Memory card.
- Click a pic=>Use any file manager=>go to external sd=>DCIM=>Camera=>Here are your pics.
It'll definitely work.
Hope it helps.
The system stores the pics & vids you click/take in this folder by default . So you can't delete it.
It's not a problem if a folder is merely there but it doesnt go back to being default right?
And the gallery shows pics from the memory card as well?
It seems a problem with android 4+ I made a goo.gle link but haven't posted much here yet oQSfA is the extension of the url. If I am erroneously posting this, I am sorry. I have the same issue. If anyone can post a clickable link it might get stars quicker. It might be fixed in jelly bean, but I don't know.
Issue 39546:Files under DCIM/.thumbnails are eating away at SD card storage
I have since done factory restore with formatting the stock SD. File is there, much smaller though 197 KB. No pictures to thumbnail, so it isn't necessarily solved. I did switch out cards (old 16GB to stock 4GB) before format and delete the .thumbnail file but that was recreated even with no pictures. I figured it may be my picasa account, but have since opened gallery. After letting more (from Picasa) picture and folder thumbnails appear than ever before my file is still small
.:banghead:
it still (6+ hours) has not grown giant. In fact its not really there. I didn't disable any of TMobile bloat like I did initially, and have the blank SD. In the process of reinstalling apps reopening gallery and checking space with storage analyzer.
I still don't like not being able to choose internal USB or external storage SD. Most apps "moved to SD card" just move to USB storage. Interestingly tapatalk appeared to move to the real external SD card as did a few others.
I doubt this will be fixed on ICS. I can hope though. It seems like the app itself needs to use the external SD directory, but the stock gallery might never be updated.
Samsung galaxy blaze 4G with stock ICS 4.0.4. All the extra TMobile apps are a pre-installed, but not updated.
I don't claim to be knowledgeable enough to know what I don't know. I always reserve the right to be wrong.
Taking pictures didn't make thumbnail file huge, but one relatively small video of 29 seconds with a 5MP camera created a 47mb file and two 3mb files in the thumbnail folder. Not huge but bigger than 10%.
finally it worked... thanks a lot bro...
for all others dealing with same issue, here is what i did... just replaced the thumbnail file with another file created with root explorer named it same as the thumbnail file n removed the write permissions of the new file created... so it wont let system write any data in it. therefore it stays empty.
[Q] Photos and External SD Card
It seems there's a very strange behavior with the stock "Gallery" app:
1) All my photos were previously saved in the internal SdCard ("/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera") as the default "storage" location in the (stock) Camera app settings was "Device".
2) I've now changed from "Device" to "Memory card" the storage setting of the Camera app.
3) New photos are now saved in "/storage/extSdCard/DCIM/Camera" as expected.
4) If I open the Gallery I can see two "camera" albums: one with all my photos taken before changing the storage location and another one with the photos taken after changing the storage setting.
All ok till now...
But if I move all my old photos to the new /storage/extSdCard/DCIM/Camera folder they don't show up in the Gallery!
Furthermore the Gallery doesn't show any other image saved in the external SdCard.
I've tried to clean up the data and cache of both the Gallery and the Media Storage apps and to reboot but that didn't solve the problem (and there's no ".nomedia" file in those folders).
Any suggestion or advice?
I got myself in a right mess when creating new folders within the gallery app and moving photos around, I ended up with empty folders with a kind of broken link symbol for those folders that I thought I had deleted or renamed. I tried clearing the data and cache of the gallery app but it didnt help.
Now as I never turn my tablet off as I just let it sleep when im not using it ( excellent battery !) I wasnt letting the media scanner run which seems to kick in when powering on and the os booting up. After a proper power off and on my folders are all sorted in the gallery . Forgive me if you have already tried this simple step but hopefully it may help you or others who like me never power off their tablet.
Thanks for your reply.
Anyway rebooting (power off and power on) didn't solve my problem. I've seen that the media scanner kicks in with a new reboot. Anyway it seems to ignore the media saved in the external Sd Card.
Strange thing is that the Gallery sees photos taken and automatically stored in the external Sd (after changing the the Camera settings) but not other image files copied in it.
[Q] Photos on SD card?
Hi all. I'm new to the Asus Transformer, but a veteran of Android.
Having got over the shock of 'APP2SD' not letting me put my apps on the SD card, I have a related question.
Is it possible to get the TF to *automatically* put all the pics I take on the camera onto SD card (rather than store them on the device)?
Also, how do I make use of the McroSD card? If Apps can't be stored there, what can? Do 'settings' and cache data get stored on the card automatically?
I guess I'm trying to get my head round how I might best use the extra space offered on the card.
Thanks folks!
Steve
The idea is that 16GB is more than enough to hold your apps and pictures, everything else can go on the SD cards. I use the microsd for movies and music, the dock sd for backups and such. There's a workaround for Apps2SD and such, but honestly I wouldn't recommend it.
You can move your pictures manually from the internal storage to external ones using apps like ES File explorer that's free on the play store.
Thanks
Cheers - my thoughts exactly!
..and the Apps2SD workaround looks pretty scary - even to a well seasoned android user like me
I store media on the microSD.
Also, check out Camera ICS and FX Camera. Both of these allow pictures to be stored on the external memory.
Photos on SD
Thanks Frederuco
That's helpful. I tried the two apps and although they allow me to put pics on the SD, they seem to have lost the 16:9 widescreen option for the pics. Do you know of any that retain this?
Thanks
I think CameraX does both those things but I'm not 100% sure and it's not free so don't take my word for it, just a suggestion (someone once told me when you buy an app you have 15 minutes to get a refund - is that still true?). Lots of people complained about the lack of 16:9 and there's quite a few modified camera software that support it poping up for random devices here on xda... doesn't look like anyone did for this one though.
I am not sure, I don't shoot 16:9 myself. If I want a 16:9 shot, I just crop it down. I rarely shoot with my TF because my phone has an 8 MP shooter, and I have a DSLR when I am serious about shooting.
Yes they still have a 15 minute return policy.
Photos on SD
Thanks
Yes, CameraX gives the option to save elsewhere, but if I choose SD Card, it still saves the pics to the main storage area. I think it might be something to do with the restrictions Asus places on saving SOME stuff to SD
