Best Guide for Newbie regarding Root/Roms - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using android since the Droid OG & i've never once rooted or used roms ever. I spent countless hours reading about them on here and blogs that i follow. Well, I just purchased a Motorlola Xoom wifi+3g and i want to root it and get a stable jelly bean rom on it for the best experience. All i am asking is to recommend the BEST and easiest guide on how to unlock/root, install roms and everything in between. I have searched on here, but i'd love to get someones advice.
I really appreciate everyone's time!
P.S. Even though i've never rooted or used roms, I've donated at least $75 to developers out there, Because without them none of this would be possible. So thanks again DEVS!

[Q] [i9020A] Would really appreciate some help on rooting my NS.

Hello there! This would be my first post around these parts, although I've owned my Nexus S for around 7 months now and browsed these forums in the past. I'd also like to say that I realize this question might have been asked more than once already, but I've done my due diligence and searched without finding a definitive answer.
Anyway, I've decided that I've gone for too long without being able to flash ROMs, use all those sudo-required tools and whatnot, and I've decided to root my Nexus S so I can get some of the fun I've been missing. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm a software developer and I work with embedded systems for a living, but I just don't want to risk my $500 phone if I can avoid it. What this means is be as technical as you need to be, but I'd rather have the root process be a walk in the park and not an excursion to Mordor.
Anyway, my phone is a Nexus S i9020A(UCKF1, whatever that means), running Android 2.3.6. I've read this and this thread, and while the first looks like what I'm looking for, I recall my brother being able to root his Nexus One in a few clicks and I was wondering if I could do the same for my device. The second thread looks a bit more promising, but all I've found in that thread is mentions of other NS sub-models and not of my own, nor if running 2.3.6 means incurring in any risks.
As you can see, I'd appreciate some help here. Is there a painless, few-clicks method for rooting my specific device? If you have the same device, how did you do it? Do you have any experience with that tool I linked to?
Thanks in advance. If by any chance this has been asked before, do point me in that direction and I'll be equally pleased.

Ready to go

Ok, I've been reading the forums and online for last several Weeks trying to make sure I have everything straight in my head, but have a fee detail questions I'd like to ask before I root and install a custom ROM and theme.
Is there anyone who would be willing, for a small donation, to answer a few questions, and help me via pm or other chat method?
I think I have everything downloaded and am ready to go. Installed "official/unofficial" gingerbread last week and hate it.
Thank you on advance,
Yuma

Did you get your questions answered?
Big BIG thank you to brorex!! And thank you bigjoe for following up.
I am now on a rooted Infuse phone running MIUI (at least for the time being). This could get addicting. LOL
brorex was super patient as we worked through an initial issue getting root and helped me all the way through. Answered my 10s of questions and really helped me understand all of the terminology, methodology, etc.
Tibu has all of my apps back in place. All my settings are up to date. Contacts all back in from Google. Even saved my media and SMS files and have them back on the device.
All in all, other than the initial hiccup getting root, everything went super smooth. I've done a TON of reading in these forums over the last several weeks. I really appreciate all the work that the devs and others have put into the mods, themes, etc. Special shout out to Dman...your instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506338 were spot on. I know you're not the only one out there doing roms and dev work, but I have followed your stuff through the different threads and your contributions are immense.
I'm going to let the dust settle for a few days and then....well I may just try to root my KF!! But that's a different thread.

I have the KF also, I highly recommend the CM9-ICS build. Good luck, if you need details instructions feel free to PM me.

[Q] Ready to root, Best learning resources?

I'm new to Android and this forum.
I've been using a stock Galaxy S2 a few months, now I'm ready to take it to the next level and learn how to root and modify Android properly.
I will be getting a Galaxy S3 upon release, and that's the one I'm going to modify.
I have lots of patience and a strong desire to learn how to do this right.
After doing a search of the forum, I didn't find a thread (perhaps I missed it?) that addresses a comprehensive way to do this.
Seems like many people are only looking for a quick solution. I'd rather spend the time and learn Android thoroughly.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rooting
I would recommend doing a you-tube search for your phone and how to root, after that I would also recommend looking at the rom you want on you-tube. Also look in the XDA developers forums on your phone that should also help you. If you are totally stuck do a google search that's how I rooted my phone with no prior knowledge

[Q] I'm attempting to root my i535 on a Mac

Firstly, my name is Animal and though I've used these forums as reference, this is my first time posting here and I'm still a semi-n00b to the whole rooting thing (though I did root my Charge for fun after getting tired of it). After some moderate (but not severely thorough) searching through the forums, I don't believe I have found a thread with the specific information that I'm looking for -- so I apologize if I'm repeating an already discussed topic. My phone recently did the OTA update to Jellybean, and as I've discovered many others experiencing, this update has left my phone bruised and broken. The battery life has diminished severely, my reception quality has decreased among a few other crappy things that someone needs to be ashamed of. So, I've decided to root my phone and skip straight to 4.2 and reep all those nice benefits. Except a) I'm trying to do so on a Mac, and b) having already updated to 4.1, a couple of the techniques I've found (through xda-developers threads) do not work with Jellybean. I like to believe I am fairly tech-savvy and am still having trouble with this.
So... what is a Mac using, Verizon JB-based GS3 owner to do to root?
Thank you all so much, and I anxiously await anyone who is sitting near to respond.
Before I switched to windows I was using parallels running Windows 7 with Odin and the root toolkit found in the Dev section. Once rooted you don't need he computer. Maybe root with a friends windows machine?

Run a virtual machine with windows? As far as i know, no one has posted a root method with mac for d2vzw with 4.1 already on it.
did it!
Well.. considering it looked like I didn't have much of a choice, I immediately got on downloading Parallels. After a few minor complications and hiccups (due mostly to my stupidity/fried brain) I am now confidently rooted and flashed to the ROM of my choice. Thank you guys for being so prompt to answer; though I wish there was a quicker solution at the time, I've made it through and appreciate your immediate responses. Without those, I would've probably still been looking for a while around running this on Windows. Look forward to seeing you in the threads!

ROM for the wife?

My wife has an S-Off DS that I put Bulletproof on about a year ago. She's recently been having issues so I thought I'd see what the hot Roms were and apparently you guys have modern Jelly Been Roms! Are they stable? Or are there at least any solid ICS Roms to consider? Or is Bulletproof still the go-to stable ROM?
Would appreciate some guidance please.

The problem is that you will get different answers from everyone since no two people can give you the same answer since no two people use their phone in the same way. Unfortunately frequently these types of threads can lead to arguments between supporters of whatever ROMs, so we generally tend to close them whenever we find them. I suggest reading the ROM threads and trying several different ROMs until you find the one that works best for your wife.
Thank you,
