Ultra-Thin Hardshell Case - Asus Transformer TF700

I had a Prime before my Infinity and was waiting for this case to be made. Hoping that this gets made for the Infinity. Check it out and if you are interested let him know.

That seems to be pretty close the the Sammy Book Case for the Tab10.1 that was my fav super ultra thin case ever.
Unfortunately - this is a quote from the maker (from the XDA Prime thread on this case):
Thanks for fielding the onslaught of Infinity users for me
I know this project has been going on long enough for several people to trade up. My hope is as I start to cover more tablets, that I will be closer to the release date of each unit. The problem is that everyone thinks their tablet should be next and I'll have to setup a poll in order to figure out which one to do next while I'm playing catch up.
*Editorial Thoughts*... all of these ideas and dreams are just that. I'm focused on the Prime at the moment. My greatest dream would be to make enough cases to quit my day job. BUT until that happens I can only work weekends and a night or 2 here and there. Thank you sooo much for all your enthusiasm. I'm really excited to launch this case and I'm trying to make sure everything is ready to repeatably make a lot of cases.

I bought one on Friday. Still hasn't shipped :-(
Me and Woot have a love/hate relationship.
I don't get it. There is no design flaw. Why are they trying to dump this product? If they are really trying to dump this product for a newer model, the newer model better be able to sing and dance.

They are not dumping it, its just being priced competitively given the availability $400 IPS tegra 2, HC Asus Transformer.
Any way amazon's deal (via woot) was way better given it was $280 to your door step (no taxes or shipping fees).

Well, I can think of one giant design flaw that marred an otherwise great tablet (hey, let's take the most important part of the tablet and make it really, really, really crappy!). I would not be surprised to see this sucker at $200 new within the next couple of months with the onslaught of HC tablets hitting the market at sub-$500 prices.

You're talking about the screen? I've had my gtab for a couple months now. Been taking it everywhere with me. In fact, myself and a couple others from the lab attended a meeting to share our designs and experiments at a meeting. I whipped out the gtab and began sharing our autocad drawings and calculations. People were impressed. A few asked intently about my tablet.
The point is I've had no problem at all with the screen. I don't understand why people are crying bloody murder about this aspect of it. May be because you guys are spoiled?
To me, this is not a design flaw. It's not even a weakness. It just is. It makes the gtab different.
I have the Asus now, and I guess you just don't know what you're missing until you've seen a superior screen in the flesh. My jaw literally dropped when I turned it on. Straight-on, the gTab has a great screen, but the viewing angles are terrible, and I consider that a design flaw, as in they went really cheap with the screen. The Acer A500 does not have an IPS screen, yet its viewing angles are almost comparable to the Transformer, so it is possible. Whoever manufactured the gTab just cut corners on the most crucial part of a tablet.
If you're happy with yours, that's great, but that screen ran me off, and I can't recommend it to anyone when they can (eventually) have a Transformer for about $100 more.
Kinda wish I'd kept mine another week so I could post the difference so you could see for yourself, but I don't suppose it matters

I have an iPad2, the gTablet, an Acer netbook, a Dell laptop, and a 2010 MacBookPro.
The gTablet uses the exact same LCD as the acer Netbook. You can tell the screen is designed for a slightly off center nearly dead on viewing angle, and if you hold it so, it's quite fine.
You won't be able to see much at more than 10-15 degrees off center left/right (in landscape) or up/down (portrait)
It is what it is. It's not an iPad. It's not the $120 more Asus. It's the cheapest Tegra2 with great modding support here at xda you can buy. I wouldn't spend more than $280 on it, but for $280 its great.

There is nothing preemptive about it, the Asus transformer is already out there (NA release) and for even longer in EU, and the $399 NA price was already officially announced more than a month ago.

If you look at it straight-on, it is a great screen. If you look at it few degrees left or right, it loses quality but is still viewable. A few more degrees, and things become mushy. Tilt it slightly vertically and that's where the frustration really begins -- imagine those psychedelic videos where colors transform and turn negative. Like the post above said, it's a pure netbook screen and is meant to be viewed as you would with a netbook. Sticking it in a tablet was a cost-cutting shortcut.
Now, if you buy a case that props it up, it helps quite a bit. I'm not dogging the gTab really, it's a great tab that just needs to come down in price a little more in light of the the Transformer's release. If you're going to spend $280+ on a tablet, I'd advise you to spring for the extra $120 that will get you a Transformer.

Don't get me wrong. Whenever someone asks me about my gtab, I tell them it's not for them and recommend an ipad or ipad 2. I do that with pretty much everything nowadays. When people ask me I recommend them the most mainstream thing possible.
Well I don't feel so bad for directing a coworker to get an iPad 2 today She saw my Transformer and said she was looking at iPads, but she liked the widgets of Android (she has an Evo). I told her to just get an iPad, you pick it up and it's a vessel for apps, nothing more, and knowing her, I thought that was best.
But after playing with the Transformer, she's torn. So I guess that's a plus for HC, it's not as techie as I thought.
Bought one from Woot on 4/25, got it on 4/29

I direct people to the ipad 2 unapologetically. I'm sick of people complaining about nothing. Let apple deal with those spoiled brats.
Well I found someone who bought it and I guess they were scared to try to do any custom ROM stuff and they sold it to me for $190. I think i got a deal, I am currently reading up on it before I try anything though. I have been using Android for well over a year now, I have a captivate and I always flash the newest ROM's that come out for it. I am hoping the G Tablet is about as easy as my captivate to mod. Anyone have a favorite ROM for the G Tab, I am looking at playing Pocket Legends and games like that.

I've used them all. The one that seems to run the smoothest and fastest is the calkulin+clemsyn combo. I use the overclocked version 5 one.
That said, you really should try them all out one at a time. Again, it takes so little effort to flash a rom. Actually, it takes about 2 minutes for each rom to flash. Try each rom for a week and see how you like them.
Some people like vegan ginger because it's the latest and greatest. I personally like the fastest and most stable. Your choice.
Thank you very much for the information, i can't wait to dive in!

I currently have tNt 4.4 and I like it a lot. If/when I flash another rom, would I have to load all my Apps again? I have titanium backup but even then it would take a while to load them all. That might discourage me from trying ALL the roms out

[Q] Will you be getting Asus Prime?

News are out with most specs detailed about the Asus Prime. Will you be getting one?
In my personal opinion, Asus Transformer is better looking (brown is more inviting than cold aluminum), it has better proportions, it doesn't look like iPad2, and 4 cores aren't necessary.
Why aren't 4 cores necessary? Because tablets aren't PCs. They are consumption devices and they are used for couch surfing and Gizmodo reading.
Games don't make sense on tablets either because the dynamics are so cumbersome. So even if the Prime will be pulling games like Shadowgun, is that really important? Every game I've played I ended up getting tired of trying to properly position myself so that I can used my hands for both controlling the game and holding my tablet.
Anyways, Transformer pulls HD video and really... what more could you need?
well, if it gets more power it needs more power...
so battery would be the first problem...
and, sorry, i dont need more power
(had my TF two weeks
and will you get the new keyboard ?? i have the keyboard of the TF101, never used it..
I'm waiting to pick one up, because after getting my tf101 at launch, the old lady wants her own.
Unless someone wants to buy my rooted b50 TF101/dock for the price 9of a Prime, I will not be getting the Prime. For some of the tasks I use my TF for, the Tegra 3 would probably be useful. For the cost it is just not worth it. If there is a follow up to the Prime next year or ditto the year after, I will ****ly then u0grade to the then current device. I'm waiting for the 3rd or 4th Gen, and to see if there [i[will[/i] be, before I invest further.
Right now the only reason I could see to upgrade would be if they blew off giving us ICS, and by the time it is worth it to me to upgrade for that, both the Prime and Android 4.0 will be outdated.

ACtually if you read the technical reviews of Tegra3, then you'd know by now, that the prime (tablet alone) will last longer on battery than the TF101 - well it's just paperform, so the first tests will reveal.
But I won't get one, maybe the summer next fall
just bought a secondhand transformer so I don't really see me getting another tablet until next year.
The answer is: maybe. I probably could buy it for my company (less tax to pay then) but I won't unless it's really much better than Transformer in regards to playing movies for example. As a game developer I also don't want to have the fastest device out there so I can test on more slower devices (I bought old used phone for that reason). But I want to make 3D games next year, so maybe targeting Tegra3 with it won't be so stupid, I don't know yet.
Well ... I really want to get one, but I will wait until it has been rooted, a 3G version is available, and other Tegra 3 Tablets are released, so the price will drop!
...But the problem when waiting for Tech always is, that you are then dealing with an maybe outdated product ... maybe I will end up getting a Windows 8 Tablet
The Transformer Prime should be getting Windows 8 / ICS Dual-Boot ... I would buy it immediately.
As I'm going to install ubuntu on my TF soon (I tried it before when it was not simpleton-friendly and you had to fix wifi and stuff yourself and I was too lazy to figure it out ), I doubt I'll need a TF prime to satisfy my curiosity with new things. But to be honest, I like the copper/brown feel more because when I see that kind of metallic finish, it just brings that disgusting metal on metal sound to my ears (or head, since technically I don't actually hear it, just the memory of it).

I agree, the brown is so much friendly looking. The aluminum is so cold and unpleasent, it also looks quite bad - not to mention how easily it should scratch.
The current transformer's back is so nice, its not cold, it doesn't scratch, its easier to grip and most importantly it's not a fingerprint magnet!

I have seen a lot of things saying it won't. Yet another reason I won't be doing business with Asus anymore
I'm passing. My TF does all I need it to do right now and I cannot see a compelling reason on the horizon to dump what works.
I got my tf on launch day. I think the prime is exactly what I want build wise. Much thinner, I like the look over the LV-ish brown, dock is slimmer. I really can't wait for it. People are saying its more expensive but its really the same price. It starts at 32 gb instead 16gb for 499 which was what the 32gb tf 1 was. I wont get it on launch day (can't afford it but would if I could)
When I got the dock for the tf I never thought I'd use for anything more than battery power and a stand to watch movies on in bed but the more time I used it, the more and more I used the dock and now can't see having one and not have a dock.

I have to say "Yes, please!" I personally don't own a tablet yet so for me I think it is a good buy. Also after using a friends for a few days some of the docs, pdf, spread sheets ran ok but, I wish it would be a little faster. So I am hoping that the prime will make some of that more snappy.
Been hawking the web just to find a preorder, i really want one. My wife already hates me due to my droid phone compaired to her Iphone. Now I cant wait to see how this stacks up to her ipad. She is starting to hate apple hoping this will be the nail in the coffin.

Take a deep breathe and Zen master it out.....Or GO FOR IT!

Hello All. As you can see this is my first thread or even post, although I have been using XDA for a while. I know..I know...I am a bad person.
Right now I have a two year old Samsung Galaxy 1st Gen (which I hate and it hates me), a nookColor which I rooted thanks to this site and which fell behind the sofa about three months ago and is quietly collecting cat hair, and my wife's iPad...puggghhh.
After pulling off the side of the road in late 2010 to order the 10.1 Archos, (remember that debacle?), I am questioning the little red trident holding man on my right shoulder and the white robbed glowing man on my left shoulder.
One says BUY while poking me, and the other says WAIT while shaking me. Which one should I listen to?
I think it is going to be the little red man and here is why. Firmware upgrade not hardware upgrade. What do I mean? Well, why wait it all it takes is a firmware upgrade to fix the problems? Is it likely that Asus will make a hardware change to this device in a month or two? If not, all waiting will do is deny myself the opportunity to enjoy this tabet for a few weeks or a month. I remember that Archos was fast and furious with its firmware updates after the 10.1 release to fix issues, but their was no hardware upgrade to the device.
So to those that say wait, what should we wait for? Better firmware? A price reduction? Left and right speakers? Thoughts anyone?

1) No, you're not a bad person for forum lurking. I did so as well, and only started contributing when I felt I had the slightest contribution to make instead of just blabbering.
2) Hardware changes are unlikely to be made -- reference the Prime case, where it was established that the design had ramifications for functionality. The design was not changed in later models; if you buy a Prime now, it has undergone software changes to partly alleviate the problems encountered earlier, but hardware-wise it's the exact same device as has been sold from January onwards.
3) I am frustrated sometimes by the I/O issues, but I am sure that either ASUS themselves or the ROM chefs in here can iron out the bugs and get the Infinity to perform like it should.
Spec-wise, this is the absolute king of Android tablets at the moment. You will miss out on some good times if you hold off to buy, but........ as always in IT, if you wait for another few months, something better *will* come by. Among computer enthusiasts, it's common knowledge that if you wait to buy "better", you can wait forever, for there's always something better right around the corner. In my opinion, the only valid criterion is $$$ (i.e., "buying cheaper, or less expensive") -- this TF700 was a pretty hefty dent in my budget (but boy, am I enjoying the experience! Can you tell? ).
Thank you for a kind reply.

What you have said makes perfect sense to me.
Ive actually have tried out several tablets and none of them seem to had been what I was hoping. Ive just chalked it up to my impulse buying and have did my research this time around.
I suppose the biggest reason I wanted to wait was so I didn't get slapped with a "early bird special", like the botched reception on the prime or the overheating of the new Acer tablet. Although I suppose if everyone followed this rule then no one would ever buy one to find the issues. XD

No, your post wasn't "blabbering" at all! I was just referencing my own hesitation to finally start posting -- before that, I felt incapable of adding to the discussion that was going on. In that sense: welcome. Nothing wrong with asking some legitimate questions. And indeed, any forum should provide not only learning and development for a new (novice) user, but also a safe and fun environment to take it all in. The only way to learn is either seeing someone else doing things (hard to do on the webz) or reading and asking. I wish you a fun stay in here. :good:
@Marty
So agree! You can wait forever if you keep procrastinating.
As we have both said, "changed" hardware means a new device entirely.
One question: If the Infinity has a plastic cover at the top for better GPS and Wi-Fi, and the device was shown in January, when did Asus realize the Prime was faulty? Is it fair to say Asus knew the Prime was faulty when they started going on sale in December but knew they could nothing about it at that point? Ford Pinto anyone!

I think they had a fair number of units ready at that point and it was just toolate to steer away, or hold up release and generate even more anger. I must say I am stupified that they made such a basic error (Faraday's cage has been known for ages) just to get a cool look on the device.
I don't know if the Infinity protoype shown in January had that plastic strip already -- must look that up...

[Infinity issues/defects/good features] Share your issues, defects or best features

Dear Asus customers/future customers,
after almost a week of using, testing, playing with this tablet and also reading this forum i thought it's time to create a topic about all the issues and defects we encountered.
Also if thing go well and the mods will give a hand to keep this topic clean we could add the positive thoughts and the strong parts of this tablet too. So lets start with the issues and defects. (On the first page i will put only issues and defects confirmed by more users and not isolated ones)
THE BAD PART
Overall Build issues/defects including materials and hardware :
1) The screen frame and the aluminium body doesn't fit equally around the tablet
In my case the bottom left (near the dock connection) of the screen frame is 2 mm out and when pressing it is going down, then up again
2) Clicking sound (like a cheap 100$ plastic device) when you hold it
Sadly i can confirm this too and with my device this clicking comes from the left side (in landscape mode) of the tablet. This is also very annoying and you can hear it loud and clear, especially during indoor use.
3) Light bleeding
I can notice this mostly when booting or in very dark conditions. In my case it's located mostly on bottom and the right side, and doesn't really bother with normal use.
4) Volume buttons
Made with very low quality and sometimes you are afraid that will get stuck into the frame or even break.
5) Flash memory/internal memory
This is a well known issue and many review sites pointed out this issue that as you already know was almost fixed with the latest firmware update but still not totally gone.
Try a benchmark application which test random read/write and you will see that your 3 years old device can do better than your Infinity :banghead:
6) Some issue with Bluetooth streaming
Software/OTA updates/Bootloader Unlock --> both issues are now fixed
1) Users doesn't receive OTA updates even if their are on stock firmware and locked bootloader
UPDATE 07/08/2012 - Asus fixed the issue and it seems that many users are getting the OTA so thx Asus for listening to us and please keep doing so.
2) Users not able to unlock the bootloader with Asus Unlock Tool -- fixed on 07/08/2012
Reading on various boards (from Asus Prime,TF300T and TF700) looks like this two issues are connected somehow but what is even more important is that Asus doesn't support the unlock issues in anyway (and is not covered by your warranty) but some users used the OTA updates issue for asking repacement/repair ticket (so this one seems to be covered by the warranty).
UPDATE: Issue is fixed so more kudos to Asus... thx for the relatively quick fix

1) Selling the TF201 dock as a TF700 dock @ higher price is not nice for the customers
Now this is only a part of the story and i will keep updating the topic.
For Asus : Dear Asus when i discovered the above issues i got really sad but after that i've said "hey i can live with that" or "nah, doesn't bother too much", but i wonder why do we have to say that when is you the one who failed. Is this your high-end pricy tablet that you advertised a lot? What would you say if someone would make you pay for a Ferrari but you would only get a half Fiat/half Ferrari?
NOTE: I'm not trying to discourage anyone or stop people from buying the Infinity which for my needs is still a great product and i keep mine even with the above issues. Also some of these are not covered by the warranty so i guess that even if someone want to return the product it wouldn't be possible (one example would be the bootloader unlock issue)... at least not everywhere.

THE GOOD PART
1) The design is great and the aluminium body add a good touch to the overall design quality but also helps dissipate heat.
2) The device is quite slim and doesn't weight much and this i very important for a portable device
3) The screen is the best part of this tablet and is wonderful in any use condition. Browsing, reading, gaming or watching movies with this display is awesome. You can also hook a HDMI cable from the MicroHDMI port to your TV or monitor and enjoy Android on a large display.
4) CPU and GPU have so real horse power and will not let you down. Keep in mind that aren't much applications which make complete use of all this power yet.
5) Digitizer is also great and typing is very easy and smooth... no issue so far
6) The 8MPixel camera is also good but please don't expect a professional camera. Is one of the best camera in the tablet market
7) The Keyboard dock is also a great gadget and maybe a must for people who use this tablet for work. Many would say that you can buy a Bluetooth keyboard for less money, true... but it will drain your battery and will not fit with the tablet like the original one does.
8) Another important thing is that Asus is well known as one of the best when it comes to software/firmware updates.
Guys please feel free to post more features and i will update.

1) The screen frame and the aluminium body doesn't fit equally around the tablet
This doesn't happen to everyone, mine makes a satisfying clicking noise though.
2) Clicking sound (like a cheap 100$ plastic device)
But isn't clicking it just so satisfying? Also, once again, not everyone has it. Even with the clicking, it still feels like a premium device.
3) Light bleeding
For some reason, when I turn on the screen I get crazy light bleed but if I leave it on for a minute or so and come back, it's totally gone. IDK, what's going on here.
4) Volume buttons
Truth, they suck.
5)Flash memory/internal memory
Using sio/cfq can really help your performance you know?
I got the same issue with the screen sticking out, but it's pretty much the whole left side, both top and bottom.
On my keyboard dock, the backspace key is scraping the chassis. Really annoying.

Whoa, bitter much? I can't do anything, does it say I'm a recognized developer? I'm just giving out some suggestions and opinions, no need to start getting all jaded about it.
So dark and edgy
I believe that these types of lash out complaint threads are unnecessary, and if you truly hate the tablet so much I suggest you return it. I understand trying to get issues resolved, but when someone tries to help with your issues and you attack them then well... That's trolling bro.

This kind of complaint could help people to decide if they are willing to accept this issues before buy, as this kind of stuff is not written on the box.
Who tried to help me and where? It was just sarcasm in that post and that's all.
Also i never said i hate this tablet and even if i was in Europe we can't ask a refund whenever we want especially with these kind of issues (at least not here in Italy)... and getting your money back is out of the question, the best you could do is getting another product instead.
So i see no trolling here bro.

So could my comment if you had actually stopped to read it instead of discounting my humor as "evil sarcasm". I was giving my opinion, and you started getting all angry and bitter. This is an internet forum, buddy. Also, it seems to me that you're trying to discourage people from buying by making all the issues seem overblown while, in reality, not that many people have most of those issues (except IO, I'll give you that one), and, when I tried to point that out, you started lashing out and getting crazy angry. I don't know if there's something wrong with my post but I think you need to chill out and stop hating on this tablet.

3/10 for effort, need more originality and shouldn't have mentioned the 4s. Emoticon was a good touch, as was the txtspk. Extensive use of the word fanboy was good, also the accusations of being a child. Overall, you could do some really good stuff but you need to work on your trolling a lot more. A 3/10 is the best I can give you for that troll post.
Former prime owner here. After going through hell and back on the prime, i jump at the chance to exchange at best buy. The infinity is a dream over the prime,... so far. . I'm still in the honeymoon period. This is nothing so far. As far as Gary and the Asus rep,... ha. They are pretty much done on the forums. Failed experiment.
Is anyone else experiencing the audio interference from the headphone jack as discussed in the thread below?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806470
I would like to add that my tablet has a good fit and finish with no uneveness or movement of the glass. But I do have some significant light bleed on the right side of the screen and a blob on the right half. Thankfully, I tend to only notice these blemishes during boot up.
When I first got mine, it was great. Had no issues, aside from DMClient crashing immediately upon turning it on the first time. Over the last week, its developed the clicking in the lower left corner... not a big deal, its not something you'd trigger with everyday use. Then I realized I never got an OTA, and when I tried unlocking the bootloader that failed too.
So I decided to try a factory reset, figuring that DMClient crash was the culprit. And upon the completion of that reset, my wifi seems to have died. It can see my network, but it stays on "Obtaining IP Adress" for about 10 minutes, before switching over to "Avoided poor internet connection". It kept doing this through multiple reboots, and even after I tried another factory reset.
On one hand, I'm disappointed as mine had pretty good build quality compared to some of the complaints here. On the other, it gives me an excuse to return it to best buy and get one that'll hopefully allow unlocking. I'll be exchanging mine tomorrow, and hopefully its replacement will arrive soon.

Potential Buyer

I am about to buy a Transformer Infinity. I know why I WANT to buy it, but I thought I'll Ask some owners for reasons for why I would NOT want to buy it
I am a crazy customizer and a power user always trying to push the limits.
I currently own a Optimus Black, a phone no one (even LG) cares about...
How popular is the TF700? Will I get support? Roms? What about ASUS Custoomer service?
Thx in Advance

The Infinity is still relatively new, but there is already quite a bit of development going on with it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1665
As far as official support, such as bug fixes or updates, Asus generally seems to be better and at least faster to get updates out than other manufacturers.
Customer support, however, is a different matter. I haven't dealt with Asus support directly, but there are ample reports about it's horrible quality. For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830473&highlight=asus+support
Likewise, Asus' quality control is pretty lax. There are a lot of tablets with issues that never should have passed standard QA checks.
Another related note: they also seem to be selling rebranded TF201 docks as "new" TF700 docks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810592&highlight=tf700+dock
All things considered though, I'm happy with the Infinity overall. I will accompany that with the caveat that I am in fact getting a replacement for my Infinity and dock from Amazon due to some dust under my screen in a very annoying location (right in the center) and because some keys on the dock started registering incorrectly.
Its a good tablet, but its not without its flaws. I'd still pick one up, as Asus is very good about software updates and our dev community is starting to ramp up so we'll get our custom roms.
Some issues that people have had:
-Quality control is very hit or miss
-You're going to have light bleed. Most tablets have it light enough that its only noticeable while booting though, once in Android it goes away.
-Internal flash storage is relatively slow, causing some occasional performance hiccups. If the Prime is any indication, custom roms will easily work around the issue.
-Asus's tech support staff are complete crap that'll insist on RMAing your device even for the most trivial issues.
-Some devices wont receive updates or unlock their bootloader, although in most cases both start working after a few weeks.
Just make sure you get one that's physically well built, and you should like it.
Thank you very much
I was also considering the iPad 3 because I'm yet to see an iOS device lag....
but I swore I would NEVER buy apple
What do you thing is a better option?
You have the the Wifi version of the Infinity, right? Is there a big difference in performance?
Thx again
I'd wait a while
My advice...
If possible wait before buying.
Don't jump in like I did.
I did get a later non buggy Infinity that has no build problems.
The performance of the tablet is what I would say is stellar compared to most of the previous incarnations.
Yet there is competition on the horizon that just might blow the Infinity out of the water.
I ran out and bought the Acer A700 because it was the latest thing and ended up severely disappointed.
So then I jumped over to the Infinity and have been pleased.
If you are a true blue power user\tinkerer the Asus may be good, yet you may be much happier with a later model
10 inch tab that ships with android 4.1 jellybean.
I'll bet the hardware in the upcoming tabs will give the 'ole iPad a real run for the finish line.
As far as the this or that choice...to me it boils down to an OS preference.
I wouldn't make sense for anyone on here to recommend apple over droid.
Probably best to not even bring it up...
I have a Asus Prime currently in limbo between Asus and FEDEX for about a month now trying to get it replaced. Long story short. Prime broke (poor quality), sent it to texas service center. 1/2 week later got it back. Service center screwed up the packing, FEDEX destroyed my tablet on delivery. Submitted and claim, 30 days later still waiting. Got tired of waiting, bought the infinity.
Asus seems to have learned their lessons from the Prime, so for me the Infinity works like what I expected the prime to be. Flawless.
If you're into customization and tinkering then this is the tablet for you. The only negative I have to say is Asus as a company they are very schizophrenic. They seem to have good customer support, their response time is good, they are polite and they want to do right by the customer but the end result is unsatisfactory. The Prime should have been recalled, but instead they released band aids to problems that only made things worst. But they tried to do good for the customer. Which is why I ended up buying another Asus product. I just hope I don't come to regret my decision later on.
There's not that many options right now anyways, if you want the most powerful tablet released you either get the ipad 3 or the infinity. My vote is on the infinity, just make sure you get insurance.
Thank you very much for your help guys just a few more things...
I will be using this a lot for school work. Is it sensitive enough for handwriting? Can I use a fine tipped stylus like the HandStylus (http://handstylus.com/) ?
Also is there a considerable drop in Performance in the 3G version compared to the Wifi version?
Thank you very much

Yes its very sensitive. The digitizer on the Infinity is really good. Regarding the HandStylus, I don't see why it shouldn't work. It looks like a normal capacitive stylus with just a smaller tip. As far as the 3g version I don't believe its out on the market yet.

I use my Infinity for quite a bit of work. One thing I found is that I use the device docked with the keyboard more than I do as an actual tablet. When sitting at a table or even on the couch I'm able to bang out e-mail, XLS files or word docs with little or no effort. Even when not using the keyboard, just having it there gives a very stable stand to hold the device in a comfortable position. I'm not even considering a sleeve anymore to protect the device, since just folding the keyboard up will protect the screen. Honestly, I didn't think I would use it this way... figured they dock was going to be a novelty accessory. It has truly transformed (pun intended) this thing into something that is really productive. Not sure what kind of school work you will be using your tablet for, but this is something you might want to consider.
I own one and I think it's great.. I honestly can't think of a reason why you shouldn't get it.. In addition, there are plenty of stable OS that you can put on the tablet once you root it; plus, you have more options you can enact on the tablet, which wouldn't be possible on the iPad.

I second Garys opinion. My transformer has become my sole computing device at home, with my desktop being used as a file storage.
The keyboard dock is essential for school.
FWIW, I finally bought a gray Infinity after being without my OG Transformer since last AUG and tiring of the wait for a champagne unit. (Tried a Prime for about 36 hours -- it was such a POS that I returned it for a refund.) The gray Infinity has been in production long enough to work out assembly issues, if Asus plans to correct them at all.
I bought from Amazon, which has excellent customer service and return policies. I should receive the unit today. If there are build issues, I'll exchange no more than twice (which, not coincidentally, is the limit of Amazon's exchange policy). If I can't find a good unit among three, I'll just return it and wait for the Samsung P10 or a Surface tab.
Heck, if the P10 is as killer as specs suggest, I'll probably eBay the Infinity anyway. But I've done without a tablet for so long -- and the keyboard dock for my Droid Bionic is a poor substitute -- that I gotta try something.
