Still 2 bugs left after official OTA 2.31.401.5 - HTC One S

Unfortunately after the official OTA update 2.31.401.5 I've seen 2 bugs are still present for HTC One S:
1. HTC email app (not the GMail app). When you open for the first time an email ASCII text-only (not in HTML format) no text is displayed (Settings: only Subject, fetch the body of msg when you open it). You have to close and open it a 2nd time to see the text. This bug is present since very first HTC One S firmware.
2. Dirty audio output from internal speaker and slowdowns. When you play games with many audio channels concurrently (e.g. race games like Hot Pursuit, Pinball Arcade etc. where there's the music soundtrack + sound effects simultaneously) you can hear clicks and dirty audio output. Sound channels are not clean and badly mishmashed.... Moreover you can also see game/app micro-slowdowns when this happens. Audio driver needs to be improved/optimized for more channels, improved quality and better multitasking IMHO.

2. Is Beats Audio disabled? Disable Beats Audio and check again.

Can you confirm that update does not have notification menu toggles?

I can confirm it does not. I don't know why people thought it did when it's the same update the one x got.

Because a couple of websites this morning said that it had it.
I'm pretty annoyed that it doesn't. So easy to implement, so universally wanted. Samsung has had it for like a year. Get with it HTC.

It has nothing to do with audio equalizer. BA works only with headphones BTW....
Audio problems with distorted sound channels, clicks, and micro-slowdowns in some games are easy to see/hear if you play some of the above mentioned games.
It's quite clear HTC has to improve the audio driver for better channel separation, clearer sound, better multitasking when many audio tracks are playing....

All smartphones on this planet got this problem. A smartphone with infrared distance sensor is the only solution (like Kinect does).
The only workaround I know is to use Magix Camera (with flashlight on for autofocus)

My battery got worse after the update.. aswel as having WiFi disconnects..

There still have the problem of SMS list preview in the SMS application

Don't be so hilarious... The GS2 and the iPhone 4 don't have this problem

Got no problems with auto focus in low lit/near pitch black areas at all and plus the S/X are actually the best phones regarding low lit shots, here are some comparisons between the S and GS 3 (not my shots) (all photos by every phone in low lit areas look like xxxx anyway, so not that it matters much anyway):

Of course if you're using flash then the results will be different and probably the GS 3 will come out on top.

3rd bug.
Just found another problem with mismatched Subject/Body-text-preview in the mail widget... Sometimes the widget incorrectly shows the wrong From+Subject for the displayed preview.
Maybe this bug is connected to the bug 1) in my first msg which screws up some internal references...

Multi channel recording studio...

Hey... I found a really cool recording studio app called Meteor
I installed the demo cab and it works like a charm (you just can't save your work on the demo version).
I'm amazed what our little phones are capable of doing. By the way... this is the first application I've seen where pinch to zoom is a real necessity. In fact... I always have it maximum zoomed and this way it's almost like a virtual desktop. (difficult to explain but I hope you know what I mean)

Not quite... Meteor is a multi-track recording studio that lets you record audio (guitar & voice for example) and process it in many ways. I'm amazed that it really works! But as I said... you need to enable pinch to zoom because the buttons are incredibly tiny!

Excellent! This will come in well handy!
Anyone know of a HD2 compatible version or something similar of this (see attached) ?
Would be really handy for doing rough mixes of my acoustic stuff!
Some nice apps on there. I just bought Chord Explorer, installed it ok but it will not start :-(. Tried re-installing on the phone memory, but still no good.
Anyone else had any problems?

I guess it would have to connect through the micro USB somehow, there's plenty of USB 2.0 mics around but I doubt they'd be compatible via a micro USB/USB 2.0 adapter?
To be fair though the sound quality of the phone mic isn't that bad for low level stuff, I'm amazed at what this phone can do!!
Thanks again for the heads up about MeTeor, excellent find!
Damn, love that Meteor-program!!! Allright, took some definite tweaking before it worked well enough to be functional on the hd2.
But now i've got a working 12 track harddisk recording system in cd-quality in my pocket....for only 30 bucks??!!!
I LOVE my HD2!!!!!
Thanx a million Tubgirl
I think the USB-Mic won't work...problem starts with drivers and ends up with 5V power-supply....
Well, the power-supply could be solved with internal batteries in the mic itself, or just using a dynamic microphone (needs no power to operate)....but drivers are probably the biggest issue...don't even know if one can even write driver software to WinMo, just like it's done to Vista etc.... ??

Well shure, I am afraid its a bit complicated. I'll try and see if I can describe it in a way that makes sense .
The first problem one might experience, at least i did on mine (using official htc 1.66 rom), is crackles, pops and dropouts in your recordings. This can be corrected with some adjustments to audiobuffersettings and the cachesize set by Meteor for your sd-card.
1. You need to find the "PREFS.xml"-file, in the Meteor directory. For me it would be here: My Phone\Memorycard\programs\Meteor\
2. You will need a browser that can open and edit XML-files, I used Adobe Dreamweaver.
3. Open the PREFS.xml and adjust the following:
AudioBufferSize="2048" -> AudioBufferSize="4096"
AudioBufferCount="32" -> AudioBufferCount="64"
ReadCacheSize="32768" -> ReadCacheSize="131072"
WriteCacheSize="65536" -> WriteCacheSize="262144"
These are maximum settings, and all in coherrence with what the manual suggests for troubleshooting by the way: View attachment Meteor_manual.zip
THE SECOND PROBLEM with the HD 2 as a multitrack harddisc recorder, as with any DAW-system, is mainly the question of latency.
(for info on DAW, check this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_audio_workstation)
Latency refers to how long the system (meaning processor, RAM, disc etc) is to actually process the sound converted (ADC), recorded, replayed & deconverted (DAC) again.
For the DAW to work properly (avoiding sync-issues between different recordings), it most know its own latency - hence the calibrating/strange beeps when running Meteor the first time.
Only thing is, that even though HD 2 is fast, it appears to have either a slow soundcard/ADC-DAC-converter or pourly written driversoftware to support it. Either way, at least on my phone, Meteor simply cannot deliver ENOUGH LATENCY, to compensate sync-issues, especially not with the above buffer and cachesettings set to maximum, not even with "Synchronize Audio Threads" under <setup> ticked (Which should be done by the way!).
There is a workaround though, but it requires you to know with what BPM (120 bpm being default) you are running during your current recording session and what latency will fit the current bpm you are running with.
The point is that you SIMPLY ADJUST the recording BACK according to your starting point of recording.
EXAMPLE:
You plan to record on track one at 120 bpm, so you set the cursor at the 1-figure at the ruler in the upperbar. you then set your latency under "setup\audio setup" to "940 ms".
Press record. When finished recording you highlight the recording and simply drag it 1-line back (NOT 1-bar, but 1/4 of a bar).
Repeat this for next recording on track 2 or any other, still keeping the 1-ruler as starting point, and you should have two recordings in perfect sync!
This should of course be repeated for every new recording...always dragging it 1-line back to keep sync.
You can test this yourself by the way, by turning on the metronome letting it play thru the HD 2's speakers, simultanously recording it. Drag the recording back, and when playedback, still with the metronome on, you should hear the recording and the metronome playing synchronized. If it is NOT in sync, you need to adjust latency, untill it is, testing with the metronome as above.
120 bpm = 940 ms latency works on my system, but I have no idea if it will work as a standard on all hd 2 phones. Problem is also, that when changing the bpm, you will also have to adjust latency. But assuming that there is some consistency thru this on most HD 2 (though rom and tweaks probably have a huge influence on this), i have here made a list of these values with what bpm = latency: View attachment Latency.zip
Quite complex instructions, hope this will help though. Welcome to ask for clarification, and I'll see if can answer accordingly
Have fun!

Audio Photos - Record audio whenever you take photos

Hi everyone,
This is Edward, developer of Car Locator and Smarter Alarm. Seeing how helpful this forum was in providing feedback for Smarter Alarm, I wanted to show another app I've been working on!
The app is called "Audio Photos". It works just like your normal camera, but it records audio a few seconds before and after you take the photo. When you view the photo, it plays back the audio that was recorded at the time. You can share the audio photo by emailing it or posting to your Facebook. (in case you're curious, it combines the audio and video into a single-framed video file with sound so no special software is required to view)
My dad originally came up with this concept. At first I thought it was weird, but I wrote the app anyways. Now the more I use it, the most I find the audio adds a nice dimension to the photo. I think it captures the best of both worlds of a photo and a video.
The app is pretty simple right now, and I wanted to figure out what it is YOU would like to see in the app!
I'd really appreciate any bug reports, feature requests, and improvements you might have!

Your dad was right, I have been looking for something like that for YEARS! I am still using a circa 2002 camera for that very reason, because newer cameras don't have this feature anymore!
Now... Are you open to suggestions or have you abandonned the development? I see this thread has had almost zero feedback!!!
So I tried it and it's a good start, but:
1) Photos and sound files should have the SAME NAME with picture as JPG and sound as WAV
2) Why are we restricted to only a few short seconds? Why no sound record on/off?
Do you think it would be possible to implement or am I one of only a handful of people in the world who think voice annotation to pictures is an essential tool to annotate what the pictures show? In other words, what do other people do to figure out what is what's in their picture collection?
Thanks in advance, Edward!

Great player, I love the multitasking ability. Would it be possible to have the app open to What to Watch? Also have the ability to open Gallery videos from within the app itself?
I think the idea and actual functionality of this player is brilliant but it also still needs quite some polish.
Performance of menus aren't the best, and somehow the layout of the shown video in the time line looks a hit squashed, at least on the Nexus 7.
But if performance improves and some small things get fixed, this could even replace the native app.
Finally I'm able to reply to comments and it gives you much more information at once anyways.
Very promising app, please keep it up
Just purchased the full version, as this is a pretty powerfull YouTube app that will likely only get better. I would suggest an option for a dark theme in the settings menu. The Style menu is can't seem to invert the video cards on the main menu that feature the videos. I love running all dark apps on my phone, so having a quick setting in the menu for a dark theme would be a blessing, so I won't have to change the colors on my own every time I wipe my device and flash a new ROM.
Besides that, this app is wonderful. The ability to play real HD videos is perfect. It's way better than the app Google provides. I'm going to recommend to my followers that they check out your app.
I was playing a video on my Nexus 7 2013 when I noticed a little quirk. It is impossible to tune a video to a certain time with the navigation bar enabled in landscape. The app does not resize to accommodate the navigation bar. I've attached a screenshot to show this in action. You can see in the image how when you touch the screen, the navigation bar pops up and blocks that area of the app.
Can't wait to try this out, but I have to wait till I get back. Going to an area with no cell service and creepingly slow internet.:crying::crying::crying:

Generally I don't support any CM, but it works on some of them.
It will be great if you try and give me info.
I added Russian language and fixed minor bugs.
I'm waiting for feedback.

Updated first post.
Very useful app. If you could also add proximity alarm, it would be a blast.
What is the video tool you use, if you don't mind? The promo video looks so professional.

Thanks for the video info will check it out. By proximity I mean if a car is getting too close in the front for instance, detect and warn the driver with audio perhaps.

Very impressed with your app sir and have purchased pro edition. I'm running this on my Sprint note 4 (snapdragon cpu) stock rooted 5.1.1 having tested three other apps all of which caused serious heating issues of the phone. I DO NOT have the phone overheating issue using your app, my phone does get hot but no where near the "to hot to hold" as with the other apps.
Next stop is the play store and 5 star rating. Keep up the good work.
