Hi,
Today my one S (rooted via htcdev.com) informed me that a new software update is availlable.
I'm wondering now if i have to reroot my phone after doing that software update.
Does anybody know that?

You will loose root with OTA update.
Try OTA Rootkeeper to save your root file. After update you can use OTA Rootkeeper to restore root.

Thanks,
And so everything I have to do is download rootkeeper, save root file, then doing ota and then restoring the root file?
Have you tried that by yourself or anyone else?

If you are on a custom Rom you have to use 1.78 ruu first and then ota.
do not run ota on 2.21 ruu , cause it does not work.
if u use the ruu you will have to unroot anyways.
---------- Post added at 08:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:17 PM ----------
or just wait for new 2.31 ruu
---------- Post added at 08:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:18 PM ----------
And I think your question has to go in q/a not in dev section

I am on the stock Rom. I just unlocked the bootloader and flashed supersu.
So should it work to keep all my stuff and root?

The dev section is no place for questions. You have been a member for quite some time, you should be aware of the rules. Maybe a refresh read of the stick threads provided?

I recently got my I727 and just rooted it using the 1 click tool, I'm wondering if it would be possible to unroot and restore it to factory default settings later if needed (lol i really should've checked before).
Also anyone know if ICS will be coming to this phone?
You can odin the stock tar anytime you want to reaturn to stock and yes ics is confirmed for q1 of 2012
Thanks. How do I know if it rooted correctly. In the site I read it said that superuser and CWM should show up. superuser showed up but theres no app for clockworkmod.
I have some apps from Rogers (my carrier) that I want to remove and I heard that rooting will let me, but it still doesn't let me uninstall or stop the apps running.
Download rommanager choose to install cwm for the tmobile galaxy s 2 it works on the skyrocket

Hi there,
My phone is:
- Rooted
- Dutch stock rom
- Custom kernel
3 questions:
1. If i try to update to version 1.17.404.3 by the OTA my phone won't startup anymore and i have to re-install the rom.
Where can i get the update so i can install it manually?
2. Where can i get the dutch stock rom?
3. On htcdev.com i can download a .tar.gz with software version 1.17.404.3 for the explorer.
But it is a .tar.gz and not a zip. Is this a rom or is this something else?
Greets Kees.

@patensas, although I do not know how current this firmware version is, I placed the link of your thread into the firmware thread in order to be stripped from the red warning sign. Is that ok with you?
Sure why not? The thread is named [SHARING] for a reason
And it`s latest from todays OTA

To flash OTA you need the stock rom with stock recovery.
What's the difference between OTA and Firmware?

alright so for flashing OTA you must be relocked or locked / not rooted / complete stock with recovery and all. and yeah you can install OTA with the stock recovery provided it is for your MODEL ID AND CID.

OTA = over the air update (firmware update)
firmware = operating system as a whole

Yes please upload it so we can create a pre-rooted ROM from it with the older bootloader.

Good grief. Another.
@Dudash does that mean that update.zip is safe for those of us with OE1 rooted?

I'd say no. If it somehow successfully installed, you'd most likely be unrooted and have no way to re-root because it would update the bootloader.
Waiting for muniz_ri to create a ROM from it.

It patches the Stagefright vulnerability.
Oooh, I need that for developer edition, that and the next one that will patch the serialization bug (or maybe Samsung included both fixes in this update since they've had that patch since June?)
so I have a work S5 and a personal S5 and the work S5 isn't rooted of course... that said the work S5 took the latest OTA and the version it reports is BOG5 as the version as opposed to G4...
If you look at the attached pic in the OP, it is OG5...the OG4 must be a typo.

after return to unroot, it can't find the update now.
I'm downloading right now with root, will it mess up my phone when it tries to install or just fail to update?
just fail to update, don't waist time to download.
