Hey folks, quick question....I have the SG3 through Verizon, Rooted and Bootloader Unlocked. I've heard that the VZW SG3 has a GSM radio in it, and I'm traveling to Germany, Austria, and possibly Greece in December for a few weeks and would like to know if VZW will unlock my SIM card? I've been with them for 4 years, have 5 lines, always in good standing with them. I asked a Rep in one of their larger stores here in Metro Detroit and he said that he believes that VZW will unlock the SIM but he has no date and suggested that I call VZW before I leave and they will send me a "Loaner World Phone". My brother in Europe also told me that if I get it unlocked he'd give me a T-Mobile SIM card (he's a Store manager for T-Mo in Austria), OR is there a hack available? What about those sites that promise to unlock your SIM card by sending you a code for $34.99? I'd love to take my phone with me, especially because of the Camera....I could leave my camera here at home and use my phone to shoot pics, and my brother and sister-in-law have the SG3 on T-Mo, which would be awesome to do quick share of videos and pics we snap. I have no idea what kind of World-Phone loaner they'd give me.....

There is a thread on how to do this in the development section I will see if I can fond the link
Thanks. I did a Google Search but came up with pretty much nothing on this, except for the AT&T and T-Mo versions of the US variants....but zilch for the VZW phone.

Ah, thanks. I've read that post before, but had a Duhhh moment, not realizing that it stared me right in the face.

I'm heading to Germany in a few weeks and have a co-worker that is there right now. I'd like to have her bring me back a pre-paid SIM (I've read that they are much cheaper if purchased there), but I have no idea which carrier would be best for my situation.
While in Europe I'll be in Germany during the week (meetings and such), but plan to travel to Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands during my weekends. I'd like to be able to send and receive calls to/from German numbers and a small amount of data would be nice for navigation (maybe 250-500MB for the 2.5 weeks that I'll be there.
Any recommendations?

I will like to buy the Inspire 4G thru amazon and plan to use it in Costa Rica, where we use the same 2G and 3G bands as AT&T (850). Nevertheless I’m not sure if after the SIM/IMEI unlock, it will work with a Costa Rican SIM card? It is very common for us to buy unlocked At&t or T-Mobile phones and use them in Costa Rica.. but I have my concerns.
Last December I bought a Prepaid AT&T Phone (Samsung A107) on a trip to the US, but after doing a SIM/IMEI unlock, the Prepaid phone didn’t recognized my Costa Rican SIM card. And even before that, while still been in the US, I was not even able to use the AT&T SIM card on my unlocked Touch Pro2 (EUR version).
My worst fear is that AT&T is doing some sort of “Hard Sim Lock” to their phones.. and I will kill myself for buying an expensive paperweight.
Your thoughts and comments will be highly appreciated.
Hi, I can't 100% answer your question but I do know why your SIM cards weren't interchangeable. We lock all PUK codes on all prepaid SIM cards to where you can only use that SIM on that phone. If you would've gotten a "regular" SIM you could've used it on another carriers phone. As to why the non AT&T SIM didn't work maybe they scammed you and it never got unlocked.

Using Inspire 4G in Costa Rica.
Thanks for your explanation. So basically and after reading other posts regarding unlocking this phone, the Inspire 4G should work overseas without any inconveniences, after inserting the SIM/IMEI unlock code that you buy from any “respected” and “trusted” site (and as long as the 3G Band is 850) ?
I was going to buy the unlocked Desire HD (Eur Version), but regretfully it wouldn’t work with any Latam 3G Band (as it happened with my Touch Pro2, that only works with 3G band 2100+900).
I got an Inspire 4G on Monday, unlocked it, and my existing SIM card from another country (also in latam) worked right away. Been using it since then both in the US and back home.
So unless there is some lock on the SIM card itself, it should work fine, I think.
That’s the answer I was looking for!! You made my day. To be honest, I want to change from Winmo to Android so badly… that this phone seems to be the right deal.
Quick question just before going to amazon and start my order: Which system did you used to get the Unlock code? I have read in other forums, that some folks have been using htcimeiunlock with excellent results (I’m not related to that company by the way). I just like to hear a second opinion.
And once again..Thank you so much for your assistance!!
Got my phone unlocked
Hey
I'm from Venezuela, and I unlocked my HTC Inspire 4G from AT&T at unlockusa.com. I chose them because they're top-rated sellers at eBay and seemed trustworthy. I got my unlock code within 5 minutes, and everything worked as expected.
Hope you enjoy your new phone!
Yes, I used htcimeiunlock.com. Got my unlock code in a few minutes with no problems whatsoever.

Hmm 2 new members and advertising new site?
The AT&T Inspire only has North American UMTS radios 850 and 1900 Mhz. It lacks the 2100 radio necessary for 3 and 4G in Europe.
The phone will work on Europe's 2G Edge network. HTC should have put the 2100 Mhz radio in the Inspire but they didn't. This is the real gripe I have with this phone.

Doesn't the desire hd cover the european market with 2100? I suppose if you are traveling it is an issue but otherwise I see no reason for att to be adding something to this phone that already exists in one of its twins. Also it is not marketed as a "world" phone by at&t either.
Whats the key code / combination on the inspire to check the status of the sim?
I may be new on the forums, but I've been lurking for a while. Heck, I learned about that site from here, and the various threads on the forum on unlocking/rooting were one of the things I kept in mind when deciding to buy the phone.
geogkdam asked if the site worked; all I'm saying is it worked for *me*. I claim no guarantees it would work for anyone else, and frankly, I don't care much either; I'm just happy I was able to unlock the phone I bought on Monday withing a few minutes.

It'll work on EDGE in Europe, which sucks for data, but at 20 bucks a megabyte while roaming, why would you want to?
I'll be taking my Inspire to London and Paris in a couple months and since I need to be reachable on my own number, I will suck it up and roam, but data will be off, so I couldn't give a crap about whether or not it's EDGE or 3G. It'll just be voice and text, and not much of that. I have an AT&T Nexus One with the 2100 band that I'll be bringing along too, I'll grab a local SIM and use that for data. I'll just have personal hotspot turned on and connect my Inspire to it.
try cellunlocker.net they unlocked it for me

AT&T also offers packages which would reduce your voice, data and text costs. Have you looked into them? Here's a link
I can't provide a link since I don't have the min. number of posts required to post here but Google "AT&T World" and you'll get the necessary info. The texting deal is a good deal if you plan to text between 20 and 50 texts. If less than 20 just go with the standard .50/text sent from Europe. If between 20&50 opt for the $10 one time charge (which drops your per text rate to .20/text).
I would also assume that free Wi-FI hotspots are plentiful around Europe??? Does anyone have first-hand experience with that?
Im thinking of buying an at&t version of this phone to use with rogers here in canada and i wanted to know whether it can be unlocked to be used with any gsm carrier?
yes you can but from what I hear, you cannot use the unlock tool from the market so you'll have to get the unlock code from AT&T or online after a small fee.
hmmm why?
from what i have been reading the Rogers one (which is the SGS2 LTE) is the international version and probably get the ICS upgrade before the AT&T Skyrocket.
Skyrocket is something AT&T made.
Also Carrier IQ is installed in the AT&T ones out of the box...
i could be all wrong since i am new to the android scene, but this is what i gathered from reading around..
The Rogers one is nice IMHO
The reason i was asking was because i found some at&t versions on ebay which were selling for less than the rogers version on craigslist.
ahhhh makes sense ; >
When I called AT&T the told me they can't give me the unlock code for my Skyrocket "you will have to pay a third party" (sic) !!!
I would love to get some feedback if you are able to get the unlock code from AT&T
I have the Rogers Galaxy S2 LTE and purchased an unlock code from cellularunlock for 9 dollars and it worked perfectly. Also rooted my phone with the Super One Click app. Worked like a charm. Zeide

I have AT&T in the US and I called them to unlock the Skyrocket. At first the lady said it wasn't possible. Then I explained that I travel overseas frequently and there are some countries that don't have any AT&T signal or service. She said OK and then did some more digging: you have to have purchased the phone at full price, not be an abuser of data roaming, and submit the original receipt. Once they send you this form to fill out it takes a few days to receive the code. I avoided all that mumbo jumbo by complaining and finally the lady said she would send my case to the "technicians". Three days later I got an email with the unlock code and instructions. It depends on who you get on the phone. Don't give up. Or just pay the $20-$30 for the unlock code online.

I unlocked mine using cellunlocker.net It was $28 and they sent me the unlock code in a few hours.
I unlocked it using my wife's T mobile SIM. After unlocking, it took several minutes for the T Mobile network to come on but it works fine. I made several calls with my wife's SIM in my phone. It does get EDGE data speeds which you would expect.
About to be backpacking and traveling around Europe.
Option 1: I have a rooted Verizon HTC One M8. Thinking of doing a Three - UK Simcard over there as it's very cost effective and they even have an unlimited data plan add on pack for 15 euros. I know that most recent Verizon smartphones are sim unlocked. Would my 4G work with most prepaid SIM cards including Three's sim card? I'm a little confused as to how it works and I'm worried that, yes my Verizon HTC one would work, but would I get 4G signal or is it mostly 3G signal? I'm assuming I keep my Verizon plan but just suspend my Verizon account while I'm abroad?
Option 2: Buy an Unlocked Used Galaxy S5 for a couple hundred bucks and include whatever SIM I choose in Europe, suspend Verizon and Keep HTC in the states, reactivate when back.
Option 3: Buy a OnePlus tomorrow for around the same as a GS5 and include whatever SIM I choose in Europe, suspend Verizon and Keep HTC in the states, reactivate when back.
Option 4: Buy a BLU Vivo Air Smartphone on Amazon and include whatever SIM I choose in Europe, suspend Verizon and Keep HTC in the states, reactivate when back.
Thoughts or advice from anyone who's been to Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy) with a Verizon HTC One?
Thanks!
I honestly don't know a 100% answer as I've never done that, but since your HTC is unlocked, and removable SIM, couldn't you just suspend Verizon, get a 4g SIM when you're over there, pop it in your M8, and go about your trip then just reactivate VZW when back?
Sounds like that's what you'd be doing anyways if you were to buy an extra phone to do that exact same thing anyways.
Or are you worried about losing/ breaking it over there then having nothing? If that's the case, I would get a cheap used one from somewhere, use that over there and then just leave the M8 there. Just my $.02.
Recently just asked this, Im going to get a cheap sim when I am over there and hope it works.

I'm going to start in Germany (berlin) and hoping to travel around Switzerland, Austria, and Italy...Thinking I'd go with Three's service from the UK for the unlimited data (which doesnt work in Germany, but almost everywhere else) and I'd get a sim for my time in germany or just use wifi.
Also, do I need to do anything special with Verizon for unlocking (other than suspend my line for the time I'm abroad)? I mean do I need to pay them to unlock the sim or anything? I've read that most recent verizon phones are sim unlocked and global ready... Just wondering if i'm missing something...
Curious to hear what you decide on or if you have any other thoughts.

You don't need to do anything with Verizon. The phone is SIM unlocked out of the box. You'd just need to add the correct APN settings.
Good afternoon all. I am thinking of switching my phone from AT&T over to TMobile. When I do this, will I then be able to install custom roms on the phone? Thanks in advance for your help.
If it is the AT&T model, then no. Only the carrier will change but the bootloader will still be locked and be unable to be unlocked at the present time. Sorry!

Thanks so much for answering this. I was about to switch over. Now I know it wouldn't do me any good.
Only good that would come of it is Tmo would pay your AT&T phone off and you can get a tmo v10 and unlock it. Tmo has binge on for youtube I use a lot . But if traveling AT&T has far superior coverage period .

I think I'll hold off on switching for awhile. I ended up getting the Note 7 on Tmo for business, so I'll definitely take advantage of Binge On. Thanks for the info.
I actually switched from ATT to T-Mobile last year. My best friend is a VP at T-Mobile. I have to say the phone was bootloader un-locked 10 minutes after leaving the store. Literally just a debug option. I live in North Texas, and where T-Mobile works they can't be beat. I was getting crazy speeds, 50+mbps. But there were lots of spots where it did not work. To the point I couldn't place or receive a call. Places that ATT and Verizon work. I also told them at the time of switching to them I needed two Cell Spots. I knew their service would not work at my home or at our lake home. They agreed, and for the next 5-6 months I played this game where they would only allow one to be activated at a time. So after about six months of it I bought out my contracts and came back to ATT. Yes I have a T-Mobile V10 unlocked, rooted, custom rom working on ATT. I get decent speeds but not what I get on the ATT Variant of the phone. I wish t-mobile was more complete on their coverage, while they may have coverage in more cities I don't think it's as complete coverage as ATT or Verizon. I also did not find that their plan was all that much cheaper than the ATT plan. Sorry for the long rant, just my two cents.
Is it possible to flash H960 international version .kdz file on H900 at&t version? If anyone does it, what are the issues caused? I was planning to do the same but I am new to LG.
Let me know if its possible and what are it's implications.
Hey, I've bought an S8+ from Germany. I have to use 5 minutes a SIM from Europe, but I have none. I sent an email to Samsung, but customer service told me that it would take 1-2 weeks. I saw that it is an app to region unlock te S7. It would be hard to make it for the S8?
Thanks in advance!
If you're still in Germany, why don't you just walk to a electronic/Samsung store
and borrow a SIM card from an employee and do the 5 minutes voice call, just a thought!
Mine is being done by the store that I've bought it from since I'm in Canada!
I have the same problem but unfortunately I got back to my country and have not that option like samteeee suggested. I got decision to fly back to Europe and try to make everything to unlock my new s8+. I tried to ask help from Samsung in Poland, UK and Germany but they can not able to help me. I really disappointed of this situation but there is only one solution for me is go back to Europe.

I bought Samsung galaxy s8+ SM-G955F in Poland. I did 6 minutes phone call with local carrier sim card to do region unlock for other carriers sim cards. Unfortunately, when she came back to my country and fitted into the phone local sim card I received pin code request. So I tried to fit in another sim cards form different local carriers an it was the same message. Then I tried to type in PIN code of my sim card, that is exactly known, and it was not take effect. Now phone is asking PUK code. But that sim card works perfect with Samsung galaxy s7 edge without any pin or puk requests.

Is there anything else I can help you with at all today?

Me 09:10:15
ok, thank you
Samsung 09:10:33
So, does the device work with a UK sim card in the UK?
Me 09:12:47
Device worked with UK sim card in my country. My father was here couple of days (he is UK citizen), and we tried he's sim card.
Samsung 09:16:34
Ok, some UK networks have corresponding carrier networks in various countries so you can use your device while travelling abroad without the need to change SIM cards. I think that may have been why your fathers SIM card worked. Can I ask where you bought the device from? was it bought from a Samsung retailer, or from a network carrier?
Me 09:18:39
I bought it in Poland, Euro Net in Gliwice. and I have all documents confirming phone purchase.
Samsung 09:20:11
And is Euro net a network provider? Like O2 or Vodafone in the UK
Me 09:21:56
No it is not network provider. At the phone box was a warning "European sim card only". I did more than 6 min phone call with local carrier sim card to do region unlock. unfortunately it was not take effect.
Samsung 09:22:40
So you rang a phone box in Poland from your mobile for 6 minutes?
Me 09:23:28
Exactly right, sir.
Samsung 09:23:41
Ok, that is why your device isn't region unlocked
You should of been advised to make a 5 minute phone call to another mobile device, ringing a landline would not activate the region unlock
Me 09:24:16
How can I fix this problem?
Samsung 09:24:36
did you see my previous message there Leonid?
Me 09:25:33
Yes, but now in my country I have not polish sim card or other European sim card to do it
Is there is another solution to unlock the phone?
I heard that Samsung may give me unlock code. I have all purchase documents.
Samsung 09:29:55
It's not guaranteed to work, but you could try using a SIM card you know works like a UK O2 SIM, like your fathers, and make a 6 minute call with that to another EU mobile device. That may work, but I couldnt guarantee it. We do not have those codes to give out, the locks are put on devices by network carriers themselves
Me 09:32:17
If I came back to Poland I be able to unlock the phone?
Samsung 09:33:23
That is actually the most obvious solution to your problem... I just didn't want to suggest it straight of the bat, as travelling across Europe seemed a little extreme
But a 6 minute phone call to another EU mobile device in Poland should solve your problem. But it must be an EU registered phone, with an EU network provider
Me 09:37:39
Would you be so kind to ask some one else about how to fix that problem? As you said travelling to Europe is not so good solution. And I do not know where I can reach EU registered sim card here.
But thank you anyway.
Samsung 09:39:01
I already asked 6 colleagues. The General consensus was either getting a sim on the same network as your father and just using that, the solution I suggested earlier, or going back to Poland
But other than that trying your local network providers and see if any of them could help with your issue
Me 09:41:00
Ok, thank you so much.
Samsung 09:41:42
Thank you, you enjoy the rest of your day, and I hope someone can help you locally... Just to make you aware, you have come through to Samsung UK
Perhaps contacting Samsung in your region may offer help, they would have a better understanding of network carriers in your region
Me 09:43:06
I will try contact them. Have a nice day.

I had already this problem with an Samsung J7, and I had to send an email to h[email protected]. They ask for the IMEI, SM, Model, Country you live and carrier you want to use it. They take around 2 weeks. Yesterday I talked with online chat service, and they asked me for the same information, and an invoice from Amazon.de. The thing is that I don't want to wait for 2 weeks T_T. There is an app for S7 that can release the region lock, but there is no new updates about it
It is really sad, the phone is not so cheap I paid for it 1100 USD and can not understand why there is such a big problem for samsung to give me unlock code even more I did what is written on box side under warning sticker I mean 5 min phone call for unlock but it is not take effect. Samsung screwed me up and I can't do nothing with this only get back to Europe and pray that phone will be unlocked with another local sim.
No one knows any solution?
I had the same issue before with my S7 Edge and i had to get a prepaid EU sim on ebay and place a 5 mins call to unlock it.
BTW, I got my Netherlands version S8+ from nevermsrp and it's not region locked. Put my TMO sim in and it works right out of the sealed box. It doesn't even have the EU region lock warning label on the box.
I bought it on amazon.de and it's shipping. I'm talking with some other people in the same situation and the problem is that Amazon gives you a 30 days for returns, so we need to make sure Samsung will provide the codes, otherwise we need to send them back and ask for a refund.
Does Samsung always send the codes and it's just a matter of time?
Anyone tried lycamobile to unlock the region lock? I bought 2 s8+ today from the official Samsung store in frankfurt germany.
*They asked me if want to unlock your phone and i was in hurry so i had to go catch other stuff.
i didn't open the phones yet!
I never used or had a phone which is region locked
Another story.
I was talking to the guy who works at the store and i asked him about the blue, grey, red tints issue if it's true or not and he confirmed that the problem is present due curved screen and different viewing angles of the phone and he simply said - you can change the colours from adaptive display to manual colours and see what is the best for you.. i know i am a fool i bought the phone knowing that this phone has a (manufacturer defects) i had no other options

I have the same issue ive bought S8+ in poland only to feel like i was robbed by Samsung. Im new to convert to Samsung from 10 years with iPhone however my boasting about Samsung is now a feeling of egg on my face. Ive been robbed by Samsung as i live in Australia and im now forced to buy another phone because i travel around the world for work. Samsung you're a bunch of crooks to treat fully paying customers like this im so disappointed.
If you are willing to pay, http://www.cellunlocker.net/ can unlock it for you. Might be faster than two weeks :/
lol theres a big sticker on the side of the box...can hardly be a surprise. Get 2 cheap sims and call it.
Region lock
For anyone who wants to know because they still ship them with the regionlock: I heard from my provider it is because the US model is cheaper and the device doesn't meet the EU quality requirment standards. In order to prevent the US version of the device being shipped of to EU for cheap they put a region lock on some devices. You must use your phone for about an hour or so send a few text messages, use internet and stuff. I got notified it ISN'T a PERMANET lock. Just use the device in the EU for a while when you buy it. :good:
When i was in egypt i saw the galaxy s8+ and decided i want to buy it right away. I have to say i live in Switzerland else. I went into a shop and we started talking and he explained to me its stupid to buy the s8 in egypt if i live in Switzerland. Electronics shipped to egypt are not produced with as tight tolerances like the ones shipped to Switzerland/Europe. I was somehow perplexed and asked other retailers if this is true and ALL of them told me yes.

Anyone with any solution? Got the same problem here, bought a SM-G950F in Swiss and made the 5min call to another swiss cellphone. When I arrived in Brazil, found that any of my local SIM work and it keep asking me the (now) PUK code.
I've already searched the whole internet and no one have any solution. Only those not-so-safe unlock sites. (can it be trustworthy?)

A "PUK"-code is SIM related: you must fill in this code, after 10x entering the WRONG SIM-password=code
The PUK-code is/was provided together with your SIM; call customer service of your provider...

That's what i got wrong...
I've already did it, i wrote down the SIM related PIN/PUK, it says the network request was unsuccessful and blocked the PIN, now it only asks for PUK of the NETWORK, already call the carrier, Samsung Brazil, Samsung Schweiss, none of them can help me!
