Just got Android 4.0.4 with Sense 4.1 - How to intall it on my rooted One S? - HTC One S

Hey. Pretty much what the title says!
When i try to install it, the phone reboots at some point and enters recovery, which in my case is a custom recovery (Team WIN).
Obviously it cant work like that.
Any tips?

you have to relock the bootloader, then flash the 1.78 RUU.
after that you can find the OTA update in system information

how do i relock?

I'm getting very confused here
I have downloaded the ota zip provided elsewere on the forum and in the version.txt it says '1.78.401.2 CL58751 release-keys' so obviously this can be installed over stock 1.78.401.2.
I have already installed 2.21.401.10 RUU and am running a custom rom from this.
Is this update being offered to those running stock 2.21.401.10 or do I have to wait until a 2.31.401.5 RUU is available.
Seems a very odd update system that HTC is employing here.

Never do what some guy on the web says. Its unnecessary to relock and flash ruu. Flashing stock recovery is enough.
Dont listen to this guy. Thx to him my bootloader is now relocked and i cant flash stock ruu. Nice.

could someone please tell me here can i get the stock recovey?
the only one i can find is the TWRP 2.2.1 and Official ClockworkMod Touch Recovery 5.8.3.1
or relocking (fastboot oem lock) does the trick?

Just to tell you: This OTA can not be flashed over 2.21, wait for the RUU please if you are on the 2.21 base

Run the RUU again after locking will do the trick but, if you do it this way, remember to back everything up as you will lose all of your data.

Hey, today I get a scratch on my One S whereas it's always in my pocket. So I decide to buy a screen protector. What is the best one ? (-10 dollars  )

I repeat: If you are on a rooted but stock ROM, it is NOT NECESSARY TO RELOCK OR FLASH AN RUU.
Just reflash the stock recovery. You will lose root, but none of your data.

Please post twrp recovery nandroid zip, flashable radio, and boot.img! That way we can flash without the ruu!

After you unlock and flash twrp, make a nandroid of your setup, then do a factory reset, then make a nandroid of the clean 2.31, and zip it up and post it! Then you can just restore your first nandroid and you won't have to set everything up again. And the rest of us will have a clean twrp recovery of 2.31 to flash

Did you update the firmware from stock?
Elegencia is an ICS ROM. Those require a firmware update.

If you have Hboot 1.18.000, which if you have not updated you should have, you need to download and run Revolutionary. Go to here for a detailed guide. But relock your bootloader before you run revolutionary.
The boot.img in in the .zip file for ROM you download. You just have to extract it from the .zip and then place it in the tools folder of the SDK and use fastboot to flash it. Or you can make a flashable .zip file to flash in recovery.
You need the stock recovery image on your de ice to flash the official update file.
so i just notice that if you have the HTC sync installed in the computer, the revolutionary.exe wont run!!
S-OFF achieved!! thanks!! Now i will try to flash a ROM again!!
Thanks Guys!

just be careful...need battery or else u might brick

HOX SV 1.94.631 help to install custom rom

Did you use the 1.94 RUU or did you try to Flash the 1.73 original?
You must root on 1.85. Scripts don't work on any other version.

Best way to root at this moment would be to unlock your bootloader using HTCDEV and flash TWRP recovery and then flash CleanRom 4.5 which will give you root as long as you kepp that rom on your phone. There could be other roms out there that will give you root access but I've flashed a few and CleanRom 4.5 was the only one that got me rooted. Until they come up with a way to perm root on 1.94 I suggest using this method.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can root with any ROM.
If you unlock and flash a recovery-
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
and you cant get it to boot the custom recovery heres the trick, after you flash the recovery type
fastboot boot nameofrecovery.img

[Q] Flash S3 Stock Recovery?

Hi guys. I got my One S like two months ago, and I got the S3 version. Unfortunately. I unlocked and rooted (with TWRP). I finally got the Sense 4.1 update. But I need to revert to stock recovery to install it, 'cause it won't seem to install otherwise.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to do this? I do not know what the heck a "RUU" is. I got linked to this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543588, from there I went to the filefactory download page, and I got a whole bunch of "RUU" files, and I have no idea which one is for mine.
So, please, for the love of god, I'm begging someone to tell me how to do this. I just wan to flash back to stock recover, relock the bootloader, and install the update.
Anyone!
1.You must flash stock recovery via fastboot
2.lock the bootloader with cmd(fastboot oem lock)
3.Then run the ruu exe with windows.
(Ruu is a installation on the PC to revert to stock)
For your device, you must find on filefactory ruu villec2 2.15

Heh, I was actually refreshing the page every minute, waiting for a reply! I'm that desperate.
Question: how do I flash the stock recovery? I'm really sorry if this is a dumb question. I downloaded the mentioned RUU (what the heck is a RUU anyway ). So now I just need to know how to flash the stock recovery. Is this something that happens via a command through fastboot? Or a file I need to specifically flash in? In which case, any idea where I can download the stock recovery for the S3? 'Cause everytime I searched for it, I just kept getting linked back to RUU files. =S
Here you got the stock recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28087059&postcount=18
Put it in your android folder then flash with cmd(fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img)
You must be in bootloader usb doing this!
Click thanks if i helped anyway

Because you want to apply a stock ROM you first need to relock the hboot, restoring it as if it was never tampered with. To do this look it up. (I'm still a noob to xda forums so I can't provide an outside link... It's easy though)
After you've relocked your phone, simply usb it to your pc and run the RUU file as exe.
Had to do this once when i bricked my phone XD.
Good luck!

But you also have to flash stock recovery and lock bootloader before running the ruu
He doesnt need to flash stock recovery. RUU already have it.
Just re-lock bootloader.

[Q] unable to revert to stock

So I tried to install a custom rom on my phone, yet I was stupid and did not back it up. The phone is stuck in a boot loop. I tried using the 1.85 RUU, but kept getting error 155 (i tried everything). please excuse my noobness, I have absolutely no idea what I am doing.
Where did you get to? What hboot are you on? Did you flash recovery? Can you get to recovery?
If you don't know what the hell you're doing why the hell would you root your phone? If you wanted to juggle fire would you just start or look into the risks and safest ways to do it first?

Be sure you're using the right version of IC. There is only one version, a jelly bean port, that works on this phone. Everything else will hard brick you. There is no evita version of IceColdSandwich.
You can't use the 1.85 RUU with 1.14 hboot unless you're s-off. You're probably on 2.20.
