But be careful with the CWM - definitely only use it for root - NO BACKUP / RESTORE, FORMAT, FACTORY defaults, etc.

I see someone else having the same issue. have you tried both the universal cfroot and the one specifically for kpq? have you ensured to wipe all caches after installing? if you don't have much work done in adding personal stuff to you phone, why not try a factory reset at the same time?

Do you think I can repair only with a factory reset? But I lost my root or only came to the factory configuration.
Do you can to say step by step for root from 2.3.6?,thanks.

before installing cfroot, have you confirmed your wireless is working at this point? if it's working, read this thread to understand better what you have to do to avoid errors.
next try installing this kernel from utter chaos (v5t6, the one I use), and this cfroot (universal + extra, the one I use) and see if you still have wifi, which should be working fine.

Hello community. Well first im new (yay).. Lol

There is a way to root it without do a factory reset ?
i''m sorry to say, but if root doesn't work without a factory reset then i suggest a factory reset.
and also please give a clear picture. like what root tool you are using.
You can backup your important apps and data with titanium backup and then do a factory reset

Good luck! :good:

[Q] ROOT for Vodafone Smart Tab 4?

Hey guys, i own a Vodafone Smart Tab 4, and google gives no awnser to my question: how do i root it? It would be awesome If anybody can help me.

If you are on 4.2.2 then you can use framaroot (Choose barahir option if I remember correctly)
If you have updated to the latest update I am unsure what will root. I am still trying. Towel root does not work, I have tried changing the parameters but no luck yet.

Framaroot will not remove the stock firmware, just use it to root and you will still be on stock.

Thanks for the replay.
I know that, but from what I have read, after the root You might have update problem, so it is best to have the stock image just in case I will have to flash it.

No problem at all. On one of my devices I had rooted it and still updated to 4.4.4 without a hassle. However, I could not root it on that FW yet.

[Q] Root (partially) gone after 5.1 update

Hi guys,
my setting was: rooted 5.0 but stock bootloader (I think). Now I want to update to 5.1 and followed the instructions in this post. Also I flashed TWRP and the current SuperSU.
Now, SuperSU tells me that
No su-file is installed and SuperSU isn't able to install one

RootChecker tells me that
Sorry! Root access is not properly installed

But with ES File Explorer I can access / and all of its subfolders.
So it seems, that my phone is still kind of rooted but there's so su-file. Any hints how I can fix that?
Furthermore, the preferences crash when I try to open the Language and Input section. Everything else works flawlessly.

Thanks, but this will not only wipe the phone but I will also loose root, right? With this you imply that I can't recover root and solve this Languages and Input issue without wiping and re-rooting?

You can flash just system.img. You will not loose any data and rooting again is not such a deal. There are too many dependences to discover what actually went (still is) wrong.

Alright. Thanks for the help.
Just to be clear: I just flash the system.img from 5.1 like I've done before? And would you be so kind as to point me to a tutorial on how to re-root without wiping?
Thanks!

Alright, I re-flashed the systems.img and the current SuperSU zip (seems like I used an older one before) and root is back
The preferences section "Languages and Input" is still crashing though.
Edit: Nevermind. I had to enable the Google Keyboard, now everything is fine.

I think he means that he has backed up in TWRP before trying to root.
Every time I try to flash with twrp I get stuck in a bootloop or in the recovery with the /data error.
Best of luck to you. Please let me know if you find a way. Thanks

LOL... Who cares what backup I'm talking about? That's irrelevant to the question, which was "does this require starting over?"
Let me try asking again, I suppose.
Does this require [mean that I'll need to be] starting over [Reformatting/wiping all data on device; 'starting' from factory settings] or could I restore a backup [the copied data from my phone to another device, in order to restore data] I made [after rooting with the method you posted]?

Relevant is to ask correctly , to the point and give relevant information , this is not the mind reading section of the forum
what kind of backup you made? Titanium?
What data you mean , user data or apps data?
If you followed the procedure in post 3 the same in both telephones( same model) and both have the same firmware restoring app and settings , user data should be possible ...data of those apps i would not restore .

Does this imply that one backup may not restore data in this case while another may? I used SmartSwitch on a PC, Titanium wouldn't let me back up without root. Are you implying that it matters which backup program I use?
I wasn't planning to back up app data such as game progress, just apps, user settings and files.
I've already started from factory 3 times on this phone and I simply didn't want to go through settings again.
Regardless I think this gives me the information I needed, I wouldn't feel so bad about restarting my phone again just to root it, if I can get all my settings and files back.

Do you mean keeping the encrypted data from the stock firmware? If so, then no. Root always changes the encryption keys. Even the methods that allow root + encryption still require a wipe at first.
