MD5 Mismatch - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey for some reason whenever I backup my system I get a message that says "Unable to find mounted volume: /sdcard error finding an appropriate backup handler" I tried this on both the internal storage and the external SD card.
Then when I try to recover it, it says that there isa Md5 mismatch.
I am on stock rooted with unlocked bootloader. I was on the the official CM10 build last night but restored back to stock and now it doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Delete the folder /sdcard/.android-secure and see if that allows you to make a new backup.

I had this on my captivate. The solution was the change to a different cwm

SD card marker not found?

I was just doing a regular CWM backup on my phone when I saw this message. It's the first time I've ever seen it. It managed to continue to backup though. Finished all the way through to generating MD5 sums. Booted alright into my launcher. I'm just concerned because this is the first time I've ever seen it. Can anyone clear this 'error' message up for me? Thanks.

just verify if ur backup is getting installed to internal sd or external..
are u using CWM or rom manager for backups???
that created an error for me... while i was using rom manager to get backups..
if yess try nad format ur card as fat 32 using windows.. might help..worked for me though..
I use CWM directly to manage my backups. My backups are stored to my external sd card. Like I said, no problems with the backup though. It's just that the error message mad me raise my eyebrows. Will attempt another backup sometime today to see if the message persists.
I too am having this same issue.
Backup of ROM from within ROM Manager app ends up in SD card marker not found error.
And, as the OP experiences, no problem when manually backing up from the recovery menu. I am running a Sammy G-Nexus, so I have no external SD.
I think it is a problem with CWM app itself as within the error text it states........
Verifying SD card marker.....
SD card marker not found........
Error processing ROM manager script. Please verify that you are performing the backup, restore, or ROM installation from ROM Manager v.4.0.0 or higher
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sd card/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
I have tried uninstalling ROM Manager, and re-installing.
Reflashing v.5.8.0.2 recovery
Clearing Dalvik then booting back in, and reflashing recovery.
Tried clearing all ROM Manager data and cache, uninstalling, re-installing then reflashing.
It keeps insisting I am not running a current enough version of recovery, but I am running what appears to be the lastest ROM Manager version and CWM recovery version.
Not a huge deal as manual backup and restore are working fine but I thought I might post and see if anyone else is seeing this. Next, I am off to try to get thru to the CWM support via email.
Thanks for any tips or suggestions ahead of time.
EDIT: I am wondering if maybe my ROM / kernel combination is the cause of all this. CWM backup and restore are working fine from within the ROM Manager app on my Acer Iconia a500 tablet running FlexReaper Extreem
I might flash back to my Apex Nandroid, and see if ROM Manager is OK running on it. Will update if I see something worth noting.

How can I revert my phone to stock?

I am running an early CM9 build on my phone (the original SelfKang1 ROM) and I'd like to simply revert my phone to the stock LG gingerbread. I don't mind if CWM stays (it was nvflashed), but I do want to be able to update to V21Y and get the new baseband.
Can anybody help me out, how do I do this?
Guess you didn't make a nandroid of the stock rom? You can download one here and restore it then update your phone with the lg tool to get the new baseband

Thank you! Where can I get a copy of the LG tool by chance?
http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/G2X-Driver/index.jsp
Hmm... I'm having a problem. I downloaded LG-P999-V21e.zip and I put it on the internal memory, and when I try to flash it with CWM, it says Opening update package, them immediately says "installation aborted" with no further explanation.
What is going on??
EDIT:
Going to try again on external SD, missed that part...
All right, what's the deal here?? I tried flashing it from the external SD now and it keeps saying installation aborted! Why??
I've never used that guide but from sifting through it I believe you need to extract the zip you downloaded so its just one folder then move it to your CWM backup folder on your SD Card and restore it in the backup/restore menu. It's not a ROM that you flash its a backup (nandroid) of the stock ROMS that you restore
I just noticed that as well, trying it now, thanks!
Uhggggg it's saying MD5 error and there are NO spaces in my directory names.... :/
OMG! I tried with a different SDcard in case mine is corrupt and same md5 error!!
The download could be corrupt but I read someone say try renaming the backup to something like A and see if it fixes it

You mean the zip file to A.zip??
No whatever the folder was called when you unzipped it
I'm an idiot... I just put the zip file on the SD card... fixed it now.
Man this is different in every way from the normal flashing procedure which threw me off...

Unable to Mount Internal Sdcard in CWM 6.0.1.2

Like the title says. I tried to search by the xda app makes it difficult to find exactly what I'm looking for. Anybody have a solution? It goes through the backup and is unable to mount /sdcard, then gives the error "Unable to find an appropriate backup handler." I back out and go to mounts and storage, and I clock on mount /sdcard. It simply refuses to mount. I'm at a loss.
Does the device boot up?
Aye. Device boots fine, works same as the day it came in the mail. I'm stuck running stock root66 because I can't do a backup (and you know, I like having backups before I flash a ROM). I've reflashed recovery via EZ-Recovery and ROM Manager, still nothing. I'm using Touch, if it matters.
Try cwm 6.0.1 non touch

i had the same problem when switching from synergy to cm10. i unlocked the phone using the ez unlock app, rebooted, went to make a backup before the cm10 leap.....insert being frustrated as hell here.
ended up just trying twrm instead of cwm and it backed up fine. been using it since.
Sounds as if you have a corrupted internal sd. Might want to move everything over to ext sd and wipe data/ factory reset from stock recovery.

CWM 6.0.1.0 cant backup to local SD?

Hi,
I tried to run a nandroid backup & I am getting this error message:
Unable to find mounted volume: /sdcard
error finding an appropriate backup handler
I then tried to mount the SD card using CWM, that didnt not work but I can mount my external card & perform a backup - but it takes much much longer.
Any ideas why this would be?
I am running the stock ICS rom that is rooted. I did try to upgrade to a JB rom & updated the modem and rpm to a JB one. I dont know if that is the issue.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks,
Rich
Are you using an SDXC card? If so, try formatting it to FAT32 using this guide (I used the GUIFORMAT.EXE program to do it): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773735. I have a 64GB SDXC card in mine and couldn't see it in recovery (or in AOSP ROMs) until I did that.
I am not using a SD card at all anymore. I am sort of stuck. I want to try another rom but I want a nandroid backup before I start messing around so I have somewhere to get back to.
I tried deleting .android secure but that did not help.
Any ideas on what I could try?
When I backup it says:
no /sdcard/.android_secure found skipping backup of applications on external storage.
no /sd-ext found,skipping.
Complete
My backup (which by the way says its in 1970) is only about 30 megs which seems way to small to be a real backup.
Thanks,
Rich
That's the backup. They use blobs that store common info so backups seem small. My stock backup is only 20.82 mb

[Q] [Solved] Problem with Nandroid backup not working [noob]

Hi,
I'm having a succesfully rooted LG Optimus One, P500 phone. Stock GB 2.3.3 (rooted). Stock Kernel. [Yeah..noob ]
I flashed a custom recovery using the "Flash Image GUI" app (given here under sticky, Step 2. b). The flashing was successful and I was able to enter recovery mode successfully using adb shell (reboot recovery).
The problem is I can't take any Nandroid backups.
1) When I try to create any backup it gives the "Oops. . . something went wrong!
Please check the recovery log!" message.
2) So I try to use Others> Move recovery log to SD card and again get the same message
3) I tried using SD-Card option so that I can use the SD card using my PC. However, only the drive shows up (0 size).
I've tried the following custom recoveries and had the same problem in all of them:
- AmonRa (from above sticky link)
- Thunderg (3.0.6 from their official location here)
Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong here and How I can access the recovery.log?
Edit1:
I've installed Thunderg 2.2.1 now. I am now able to create Nandroid backups on my SD card. However, restore still gives the same error..
Tried with boot, system only and even that failed to restore..It gives the same message "oops....something went wrong. Please check the recovery log"
Make sure to check if the root was actually successful with a app like root checker basic. There are some instances where I have seen a root process say it has been successful but when I check for root access it actually was not granted.

Hi lord_nathan9, Thanks for replying. I'm quite positive that I have root access. I checked the root access in the following ways:
Using the Root Checker app (+ve)
While installing Titanium Backup (was able to move Handcent SMS to external card successfully)
Installing BusyBox (it required the root access) - message flashed that it was granted
using the "su" command on the adb shell. A message flashed on the phone that permission was granted and I got the # symbol showing up
When I open the SuperUser app it doesnt show me any problems either. So I'm positive that I've got root access..

Sure thing. So the steps would be as follows?
1. Connect phone to PC with USB
2. Copy everything from SD card
3. Reboot to recovery mode
4. Format SD card
5. Start phone
6. Copy everything back to SD card???
7. Check whether everything is working fine..
Between steps 4 and 5, try making a nandroid.

I've installed Thunderg 2.2.1 recovery (updated my 1st post). I'm now able to create Nandroid backups. However, restore is still failing with the same oops error message. Should I still try out this wiping SD card thing?
Re: [Q] Problem with Nandroid backup not working [noob]
Couldn't hurt, as long as you back it up first.

Okay. I'm going to try it out and post an update whenever it gets done.
Edit:
Tried the option "others> wipe SD Card".
Created a Nandroid Backup (got created)
Tried a restore (same oops error)
Is there an option to format, instead of wiping? If not, can you format it with a card reader and your pc?

Unfortunately there is no other option besides wipe. However, I noticed something suspicious about the "Mount" setting. It has the following options:
Mount /system
Unmount /cache <--- No idea whether this is normal or not
Mount /data
Mount /sd-ext
Mount /sdcard
Should I try to unmount the cache and then try restoring the Nandroid backup or what?
Thanks a lot for your help upconvert. I have found the solution finally! This whole investigation took me an entire day but finally the restore is working!..
TWR custom recovery is working for me when others are failing and giving me all kinds of weird errors. I found the solution in this link here.
Any idea how to mark this thread as answered?
