I was just doing a regular CWM backup on my phone when I saw this message. It's the first time I've ever seen it. It managed to continue to backup though. Finished all the way through to generating MD5 sums. Booted alright into my launcher. I'm just concerned because this is the first time I've ever seen it. Can anyone clear this 'error' message up for me? Thanks.

just verify if ur backup is getting installed to internal sd or external..
are u using CWM or rom manager for backups???
that created an error for me... while i was using rom manager to get backups..
if yess try nad format ur card as fat 32 using windows.. might help..worked for me though..
I use CWM directly to manage my backups. My backups are stored to my external sd card. Like I said, no problems with the backup though. It's just that the error message mad me raise my eyebrows. Will attempt another backup sometime today to see if the message persists.
I too am having this same issue.
Backup of ROM from within ROM Manager app ends up in SD card marker not found error.
And, as the OP experiences, no problem when manually backing up from the recovery menu. I am running a Sammy G-Nexus, so I have no external SD.
I think it is a problem with CWM app itself as within the error text it states........
Verifying SD card marker.....
SD card marker not found........
Error processing ROM manager script. Please verify that you are performing the backup, restore, or ROM installation from ROM Manager v.4.0.0 or higher
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sd card/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
I have tried uninstalling ROM Manager, and re-installing.
Reflashing v.5.8.0.2 recovery
Clearing Dalvik then booting back in, and reflashing recovery.
Tried clearing all ROM Manager data and cache, uninstalling, re-installing then reflashing.
It keeps insisting I am not running a current enough version of recovery, but I am running what appears to be the lastest ROM Manager version and CWM recovery version.
Not a huge deal as manual backup and restore are working fine but I thought I might post and see if anyone else is seeing this. Next, I am off to try to get thru to the CWM support via email.
Thanks for any tips or suggestions ahead of time.
EDIT: I am wondering if maybe my ROM / kernel combination is the cause of all this. CWM backup and restore are working fine from within the ROM Manager app on my Acer Iconia a500 tablet running FlexReaper Extreem
I might flash back to my Apex Nandroid, and see if ROM Manager is OK running on it. Will update if I see something worth noting.

Im having real problems with my Nexus S on 2.3.4 rooted
When I start it up I just get constant force close messages from a load of apps, including system apps. I cant use the phone at all because everything crashes. I've not really made any changes apart from manually flashing the 2.3.4 update and thats been running stable for about a week
I figured I would try and flash a new ROM and/or go back to stock 2.3.1 ROM which I found in the forums here to fix it but whatever I save to my SD Card does not appear in clockwork recovery when I select "Install from zip"
I then tried to copy the ROM again which was showing on the phone through windows explorer, then when I unplugged the cable and plugged it back in, the file had disappeared and any files/folders I created on the SD Card have gone.
Any help would be much appreciated
edit*
All of the apps crashing seem to complain about the database. Im getting SQLiteExceptions from everything, either unable to find file or cannot write to a read-only database
I've tried to lock/unlock the boot loader, wipe everything via recovery (clockwork and stock) and factory resets but everytime i restart, its always the same as if i haven't wiped and the errors keep on coming
grateful for any help
i think these problems are all linked to being unable to save to the sdcard/internal storage. Is there a way to flash a rom without using the internal storage? say have it linked to the PC and do it from there?
I have an issue where when Im in e3 or clockwork recovery where when I am trying to do a data wipe and clean flash. I get an error at the end- "error restoring /data!" after It goes through and verbosely lists all the caches and files its restoring. When I actually get into the recovered rom, I have a bunch of most of the old apps listed as on the SD card 0.00B, I can't move them to phone, or erase the data as there is nothing there, I have to uninstall them each time. Sometimes I get a ton of force closes when I reboot the phone. I fix permissions in CWM at least ten minutes after a flash to let the phone cache.
I wasn't getting this problem until I tried to flash Alien 5.5 with a corrupted file in the zip which aborted the flash. Does anyone know why this has affected all of my backups? I can't get a good recovery because of the /data issue.
On another topic, Does anyone with alien 5.5 have a non-working home button as well as no market app? I wanted to post or pm romracer about the homebutton issue because I cannot find a fix for it anywhere.
You have corrupted ur internal sd card that's y this thing happens!!!!!! You need to do is follow this steps here!!!!!! IF you already tried that than go back to stock and start over!!!!!!

Ok..so I've been using HTC explorer for 2-3 months and everything was going fine but the low internal memory kept bugging me so I rooted the phone (i delayed rooting because it voids warranty..)..I deleted the pre installed apps and all other unnecessary crap..but the internal memory was still low so I went for factory reset..:|..and thats how you get into bootloop but searching for solutions..i found that my problem can be solved by flashing new rom..so I downloaded 1 and flashed it (yes i followed all the steps like creating ext4 partition and wiping cache etc).. but suddenly 'can't open /sdcard/*rom*.zip (bad)' popped up..so I went through the forums but didn't found any approved solution but suggestions like re downloading the rom..or checking if signature verification is off or flashing any other rom..i tried all of them..i retried re downloading the rom..I tried flashing cm 9..explode^1..Jaggyrom..even the stock rom but nothing positive happened..I am clueless..Please Help...
What recovery did you flashed, another thing, try with another sd card, or repartiotion this one through recovery after that get some rom on it. If you have a card reader, check if the card is ok.
And don't rename zip's live them with their original names.

i flashed with A310e recovery...and the card is fine..I read somewhere to format the card with sdformatter and flash the rom from there and create the partition after the rom has booted..so i am trying that..I'll update you..thnx for reply btw.. :highfive:
Try installing CM10 Beta 2 on a clean, unformatted sd.
If that doesn't work, change your recovery.
Working fine
everything's alrite now..the thing that was causing the problem was the partitioned sd card...I removed partition and then flashed it and everything went well...
Hi, I've been trying to hunt down an answer to my problem with no avail, hopefully someone here can help. I've a rooted Huawei y300 0100 back on factory stock again.
My problem is this after I rooted (went fine first time doing this) installed TWRP created backups, Flashed Fusion x rom no problems at all, found a few bugs thought I would try another ROM, restored my stock from twrp saved backups all good I thought...
Upon re entering recovery everything is fine, factory wipe etc then when it comes to installing any ROM I get the message E: cannot open zip. This happens on any ROM I try, so I know its not the file, file can also be opened on PC and phone explorer.I've formatted the external SD card and re-downloaded ROMs still nowt.
I would just use the stock again and run a new launcher and delete the bloat myself but I can't get Orbit working at all now I'm rooted and back on factory stock when it was working fine on fusionx and orbit/Pandora are pretty much what I did all this for
Any ideas would be appriecated as I'm pretty noobish at this.
Would installing cwm over the top of twrp work?
Do I need to do a special kind of wipe in case of file corruption?
Solved, after some fiddling got flashing working again. What worked for me was to redownload the file direct to internal SD and flashing from there. Downloading anywhere else ie PC or ext SD and copying across still gave same error. Not sure why but I've flashed 3 ROMs today without issue this way. Hope this helps anyone else who encounters this.

ABSOLUTELY confirmed. I was trying it for days. After finding this post, direct downloading to sdcard worked for me.

yeeah... thank you bro
I also had problems with "unable to open zip file" and "bad" errors, seemed to be fixed by formatting a spare 4gb MicroSD to FAT and making sure it was the first thing copied to the SD card. I was using PHILZ recovery, but I'd assume that TWRP will work just as well. I have a suspicion it may have something to do with file fragmentation or maybe allocation block size. Before this I checked MD5SUMs on a few MicroSD cards and they were all perfect, so it wasn't a download or copy corruption, the bootloader just has an issue with the file or filesystem for some reason.
Can confirm. Was having trouble installing Boeffla 3.0 kernal on gnabo 4.4.2 (v8). ( samsung galaxy note 10.1 n801x / n8013 )
Deleted the zips I downloaded, then re-downloaded straight to zip. installed like a boss!
Thanks!
This is a most underrated thread.
Just had the same issue with my old Galaxy S3. Needed to copy the zip directly to internal storage via mtp in twrp.
In newer twrp version it shows zip file corrupt instead of unable to open zip.
I have seen this mentioned a few times in several threads without any resolve that I can find.
Since flashing CWM 6.0.4.5 it no longer will go straight into a backup or restore without stopping at the CWR recovery screen with the following error message:
waiting for sd card to mount (20s)
SD card mounted...
Verifying SD Card marker...
SD card marker not found...
Error processing ROM manager script. Please veri
fy that you are performing the backup, restore,
or ROM installation from ROM manager v4.4.0.0 or
higher.
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockwor
kmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM manager to re
port the issue.
Well it has been reported several times and I am up to date with ROM manager.
Has anyone else experienced this? And if so were able to resolve it?
Maybe we can figure this out. :fingers-crossed:
I don"t know if this is related but in ROM Manager it identifies the sd card as: extSdCard/ But when booted in recovery CWR identifies the sd card as: /storage/sdcard1
I downgraded to ROM Manager 6.0.3.1 and now it will perform a backup or restore seamlessly without the error but I will not be able to flash any 4.4.x roms. Also the sd card path now states: /storage/extSdCard/
any help is appreciated!
I fixed it! I have converted to twrp recovery and rom installer as my interface app. (it was already on my device included in rom toolbox) they work together seamlessly. Thanks everyone for your help!
