How do I make a flashable zip? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Can someone show me how to make a flashable zip please? All I wanna do is take some apks I themed and flash them through twrp. I Googled how to do it and the guides give you a template where you just drop your apk in there and flash it but every time I try to flash it it fails.
Can someone maybe show me how to create it from scratch with the update scripts? People post flashable zips all the time on here so I'm sure someone knows how to do it.

If you have the apks all you gotta do is use an app like root explorer and.push the apks manually into the system changing the permissions accordingly. Would be much easier that way

I asked similar question in android themes and here is the reply, hope it helps you
Here you have a empty Update Script.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1084746/SGS/UpdateEmpty.zip
You can put your apk inside.
Dont sign system apks!

I think I know why I can't make a flashable zip right or why it fails. I think it's because of the permission being wrong. Does anyone know how to set the permissions of an apk file before it's on the phone? Do I just have to sign it with apk manager or something?

I'm pretty sure there was a great tutorial back in the Desire forums... I'd link you but I'm on my HOX.

App2zip
Available at the store, and free

Attached is a empty flash zip that will work on our phone the proper folders are in place to add apks to the system apps.
When adding apk to a zip you must create a folder path like system/app then place the apk inside the app folder so you would have a folder in the zip named system then inside that a folder named app inside that the apk or apks if they are system apps. You do not need to set permissions. When zipping the file when done just highlight the folders inside the extracted zip not the whole zip. ie. META-INF and system folder then right click select send to then compressed zip name the zip what ever you want then flash it.

Boot Animation Request?

I don't know how and where to post this so I'll put this here...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAyE7IPAm-I&feature=related
Can someone make this into a boot animation with the sound and full instructions? Please and Thanks
Give me a couple of days.
Do you want that "transformers" banner logo in there? I'll make a couple different versions layer on tonight.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Ok thank you very much.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I would like one with all the gears and things turning without any of the Transformers faces or words in it if that would be okay. Thanks!
I have the first one ready to test. This is exactly as it appears on the video.
To install:
Download the file, or files if you want the audio. Rename the animation file. Depending on the rom you are on, it could be bootanimation.zip or VZW_bootanimation.zip. Extract the mp3 from the android_audio.zip. Find your current boot animation one and rename this one to that exact name. Either rename or move your current boot anim, just in case you don't want this one. Now place the renamed file and the mp3 into the same folder you found the original one in. Again, depending on the rom, this could be in system/media or system/customize/resource.
Let me know how it works out for you guys. I will do a couple more versions of this also.
Works great! It's in landscape but it works good. Could you make one in portrait without all the transformers faces and words? Sorry, I don't mean to sound picky. Thanks a lot! Awesome work.

I'm not sure. You need root permission to write to system, not sure if astro has that. I know es file explorer does. I could make you a flashable zip if you can tell me where it goes in your Rom.

I am running shooter ROM by joelz the location is....open ROM zip file, system, customize, resource, and right there is the bootanimation zip file. I also like the audio as well. Do I have to reflash ROM after replacing the bootanimation?

Try es file explorer. They recently added root capabilities. Go to settings towards the bottom and turn on root explorer and mount system as rw. That should let you copy the boot to the right folder.

What do you mean reflash? The entire Rom? No.
Edit. I just reread our conversation. Are you trying to place it in the zip for the Rom that you downloaded? If so, why? Use es file explorer, go to system/customize/resources and place the file in there, not in the zip.

Your moving the whole .zip file to /data/local, correct? If you extract (like I did the first attempt) it won't work.
Yes... ermm I think lol. Will try again to make sure.

The downloaded file should be bootanimation.zip, once that file is downloaded. Move it to /data/local. Do not extract it. Hope this helps.
Yea so I have two data folders. One on phone (which doesn't have a local folder) and one on my SD that also does not have a local folder.
Got the bootanimation.zip... just don't know precisely where to put it this seems extremely easy and I can't make it work lol

Then click on Data, then Local folder. Place the bootanimation.zip there. Hope this helps.

Try this, I pulled it out of cleanROM SE.
First of all this belongs in the Themes and Apps forums
Secondly, you need the APK that Metalhead posted since you need the deodexed version (since thats the type of ROM CleanROM DE is, correct me if I'm wrong as I've never tried it).

You can't install it, it is a system app. Either adb push it to system/app or use root explorer to move it there and be sure to set the permissions. Reboot when you're done and it should work fine.

You need to flash the .zip file in Recovery. You can't install it by running the apk file.
On the One S, you can only write to the System partition through Recovery as there is no S-Off.

Making CWM Flashable ZIP from mobile phone

Hi there
My experiments come to an end. Pls note the steps below
(1)at first u need a sample zIP download it from below link
http://d-h.st/ZYX
(2)download "PowerGrasp file manager" from link below
http://d-h.st/t3u
(3)open the sample zip from file manager(do not extract) u will see
Folder meta-inf (don't modify it leave it as it is)
now make another folder named system under this make folder app(For apk's)now cut and paste any desired apk into app folder
(4)now file manager asks compression level choose normal(6)
(5)Now exit this zip operation
Hurrey u have created ur first cwm flashable zip from ur phone itself
Goto recovery and flash it. Off course it will work just try and hit thanks
-----------------------------------------------------
Hints
/system/app - all the system apps (SystemUI.apk etc)
/system/framework/ -framework-res.apk,android.policy.jar
/system/media - bootanimation.zip
/system/lib - libraries (*.so)
---------------------------------------------------------------
For rom's flashable zip u need to edit the updater script u can do this also in mobile(like notepad++ in PC)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aor.droidedit
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HIT THANKS if u like my work. Don't think just hitttttt

If u want to make flash able zip of boot animation then u need PC
With this u don't need PC. Understand the thread now u can create flashable zip right from your phone
Basically it can be used to make flashable zips/roms. Or edit existing roms to remove stuff you don't want before flashing all from your phone.
