This is not a flashable zip.
Do like. Do like alot!
WAY better than the creepy CID logo where just the very bottom was animated. Dark backgrounds just work better as boot animations. It looks cleaner and more professional somehow.
The only thing I might add is a big "X" (For 10) thats 'slashed' into the background. By slashes I mean something like this Wolverine image...
...only 2 slashes forming an X.
so the circle logo does it's thing, then slash 1, slash 2, and a white glow from behind the background.
tested on cm9...works well
looks more beautiful now:good:
Is this a flashable zip? What is the resolution?
I would like to use it on my Milestone 2 but I read on some threads that after boot phone screen just goes black...

Assuming you have the Sensation, this may not work.. you are 540 x 960px and this is only 800px vertical(portrait)
Not flash'able. Ive done a whole lot of research on this bootani and soo many different people think they can flash it or don't know their screen res or don't see its a file that you choose whether to have it portrait or landscape...(Hence, 15MB+ file..durr) So, what you do is find out your vertical screen res, open the 'vertical' folder, choose your resolution# and there will be a 'bootanimation.zip' there. Move that file to your sdcard, from your sdcard to /system/media, you should have your original bootani there so make sure to save it somewhere handy, then change your permissions to rw-r-r-- once you've moved your new bootanimation there. However, this worked on my Epic 4G, so Idk how this works with other phones but I thought I'd give ya a little guidance!

Originally, this was the vertical 540x540 bootanimation from the original CM download. I edited it to be 540x960, so that it will fit Sensation/Amaze 4g and any other phone with that resolution. If you want to apply to it on a different phone, TRY and edit the desc.txt file to your phones resolution then rezip the file with "store" compression. No promises that it will fit perfect though.
Good lord, people. Its a boot animation, not a space shuttle launch.
Just try it and see if it works on your phone's screen size. If it doesnt it will either look wacky or you will get the stock ANDROID boot animation. But tbe phone will still boot, at which point you can change the non working animation to something else
You cant screw up your phone by trying it.
If you have a sensation, this .zip animation works. Period.
It doesnt matter what rom you are running or what version of the rom you are running.
If you want to use it on ARHD, AOKP,CM, or even stockroms, it will work. Bootanimations are not rom specific. (Though sense roms store the animation files in a different spot than aosp roms)

Here.
They have this on the Galaxy SIII forum as a flashable zip. I pulled the bootanimation.zip file out of the flashable zip and just posted it here as a regular bootanimation file that can be copied using ES File Explorer or the like.
It's a 540x540 file but I assure you it works. I've already installed it and looked at it. Android will center the animation on the screen. it doesn't need to be 540x960 natively.
Put it in /system/media and change the permissions to give it read write and execute permissions. Enjoy.
If you really want the flashable zip the Galaxy SIII forum is here. But it's like 10 times faster to just move the file using File Explorer.

i'm not going to root my phone until after the 2.2 OTA is released at the end of the month. any way i can get a zip with the bootanimation and mp3 to push to my phone?

It's not letting me unzip the .mp3, saying unknown format.

well you don't need root to push to your phone. so you can always push it afterwards.

you don't uncompress it. you just remove the .zip extension.
but as of now I can't get the audio to work correctly so its useless. i am going to pull the file now.
And also, the original is better than the CM version. the transitions are better.
Any way we can get it to show just red like the cyan version?
I'm running PMF v1.2 OTA version and can't seem to get this working. I've adb push'd the bootanimation.zip to /data/local with no luck and also to /system/media where PMF keeps it to no luck as well. Every boot I get a black screen till the OS is loaded. Anyone have any suggestions?
The only difference I can think of is that I did apply the OTA but that's lower level than the bootsplash...
Don't know if this helps or not, but here is the image as an animation. I have no idea how to make it where it can be used as live wallpaper.
(Rename .zip to .gif)
i hope someone will make a live WP with this.
Can this be used on EVO?

The reason why audio will not work is that the first folder (or only folder if not more than one) holding the images for the boot animation needs to be named android. and the Desc.txt should reflect the folder name android. So basically, part0 folder needs to be renamed to android. And in desc.txt part0 also needs to be renamed to android

I could have sworn I tried that. But I will try again later tonight if I remember. Or if you can get working, we'd all much appreciate it!
Try these with whatever audio file you have/want.
I have a boot animation that I want to install on my Inspire 4G running CM7.0.3. I've placed the bootanimation.zip in system/local, data/local, system/media, and even tried to flash it. Yet I'm still getting a boot animation that I flashed a couple of weeks ago. And when I try to search on CM7 to see where to put it, seems all I can find is copies of CM7 animations. Anyone have any ideas of where to stick this thing?
I am not familiar with CM, but the only other location that I know of on the Inspire's is system/customize/resource. Try looking there also.
I had to create both the customize and resource folder, but it did have an effect. I didn't get the animation that I wanted, but did get a generic "android" logo during boot instead of a HTC banner followed by the animation that I flashed a couple of weeks ago.
After trying the three positions I mentions and the fourth that was suggested, I put the zip file in ALL FOUR. Guess what...it works now. LOL
i thought data/local was the folder for non-stock phones?

IF it is a CM ROM it is always system/media unless it somehow got messed up.
On cm roms if you put the zip into the /data/local it is supposed to override any other boot animation

Not sure what is going on. I deleted it from everywhere BUT /data/local and it went back to the animation I flashed weeks ago. I added it back to /system/local and system/customize/resource and it still didn't work. Added it to /system/media/ and a reboot still didn't work. Powering off and back on and it still didn't come back. I'm at a total loss here. It seems to be a real crap shoot that I can't duplicate.
I would follow Adam's advice for where it is located. Are you deleting the other boot animation before you place the new one in there? The replacement might be getting appended or something like that. Is the format correct? I am sure you checked, but just going through some ideas.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App.
There was no bootanimation.zip in any of the locations to begin with. Not sure where that other one flashed to. This one must be in the correct format because it actually worked for some time.
PM me your animation file and i will take a look at CM this weekend and try to see if i can figure it out. Now i am curious.

Search for boot animation while in root explorer then rename the old boot animation also just check the permission just to make sure you have the new permission right for your new boot animation

I did the search of my whole system. Took a while. Here are the results from where I originally took it from my dropbox folder and where all I've tried it (still unsuccessfully). The original file is from here. It is the blue 30fps one.

I checked CM7 and the boot animation does go in system/media/bootanimation.zip. I think I found the problem with the one that you are trying to use. This is the description text from that animation.
"480 360 30p 1 0 androidp 0 0 part1"
From looking at the text and at the png files it looks like the size is incorrect for the Inspire 4g. The phone normally looks for a 480x800 size. The size for CM7 looks like 480x480 size. This is the text from CM7.
"480 480 24p 1 0 androidp 0 0 part1"
I think the 480x360 size or the frame rate is what is giving you the problems with the phone not reading it correctly.
Thanks, Wolf. I'll try to find a 480x480 and see what happens.
Forgive me if something similar was already posted, but I did not see a Sensation specific posting of this animation.
I went through and modified the frames to allow for more accuracy in terms of specs for our devices.

Here are instructions I copied from another boot animation thread (saved me from typing them!!! Lol!)....
Instructions to install:
[NOTE YOU MUST HAVE YOUR DEVICE S-OFF BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS]
1.Back-up stock boot animation (if you want to) which is found in /system/customize/resource using root explorer or ES file explorer
2.Delete the stock boot animation after backing up and replace it with the bootanimation.zip included in this post in the same directory as before
Then reboot!
Simples!
@AndroTMO
Nice animation by the way, any chance of a Splash screen to match? Perhaps just the Energy Star logo + sensation details (ie the 1st frame of the animantion) with the "HTC quietly brilliant" logo beneath?
awesome bootscreen! got anything for us on the downscreen along similar lines?

I as of yet have not learned where the downscreen is in relation to the rest of the OS.
If I figure out how to make it do a custom, I might work one up.

This method works perfectly except for one difference for T-mobile users- TMOUS people running the stock ROM need to replace the TMOUS_bootanimation.zip instead of the bootanimation.zip.

FYI- I found the down animations in the same folder as the boot animations.
Thanks for the #11 post.
Now that my device has S-OFF I would like this boot loader.
I see the path you mentioned using root explorer, but not sure how to get the downloaded files from my computer to the directory on the HTC Sensation.
Any advice please?
T.I.A.
All you have to do is connect your phone via USB & drag the file to your SD card. Then, use Root Explorer(market app) to copy them to the proper directory & rename them. Make sure you copy the original animations to somewhere safe on your SD card just in case you need to restore them for any reason.

Happen to remember the name of the .zip that is needed? I no longer have a down anim due to my ROM.
Is it called downanimation.zip
I like it. Unfortunately, it's the wrong resolution for sensation. 480x800 instead of 540x960 so it looks interpolated and blurry ;/
Edit: here's a modded 540x960 version I just whipped up.

I used this one and it looks great, thanks! Just for fun I also took the first image from the boot sequence and flashed that as my splash screen to replace the white screen with HTC on it prior to the boot animation.
Now when I turn on my phone, the splash screen comes up as the Energy Star image with some text, then once it goes to the boot animation it just looks like its still booting up. Kinda cool I think.
Thanks again!

All I did was download the .zip files and extract the actual boot animations. What you need to do is download the TMUS_bootanimation.zip file and place it in your /system/customize/resource folder and it will replace the existing boot animation. Then long-press on the file and change permissions to rw-r--r-- (hopefully that makes sense if you done this before.) That's all you need to do. Then reboot and enjoy!

good find!!!
I was using the "Sky Raider" from UOT Kitchen but I'm switching to the Red Helix right now
Hey I really like the Red Helix. However, it seems to run through the animation sequence awfully fast on my phone (way faster then is displayed when viewing the OP through the link you provided).
pmcqueen posted White Nexus boot animation and noted that you could: "modify how fast it goes by changing the third value (framerate) in the desc.txt file"
I tried that earlier today on a bootanimation.zip that I downloaded from UOT Kitchen. I extracted the desc.txt file from the zip, edited it in Notepad++ by just changing the 3rd number to a lower number and then replacing the original desc.txt file in the zip and it worked great.
For some reason the same method doesn't work on the Helix bootanimation though. I extracted the desc.txt, changed the fps from 45 to 30 and replaced the desc.txt in the zip file and then proceeded to replace the current boot animation with this one following these steps posted by pmcqueen:
"Instructions for installation:
(using file explorer like root explorer)
download the zip, place on sd card.
find the zip in your file browser and move it to /system/customize/resource/ (overwrite existing bootanimation file)
change permissions to rw-r--r-- (read/write owner, read for group/others)"
Instead of getting a slower frame though, I just get black screen during the time when I should be seeing boot animation.
Is there something different about this file that I can't change the framerate or am I not doing this correctly?

My guess is that you compressed desc.txt when you made the changes. Make sure you aren't compressing any of the files in the bootanimation or you'll get the black screen. If you use winrar (or any other compressed archive viewer) it should tell you whether or not the file is compressed. Make sure any changes you make are put back in the archive as "store only" (ie no compression). Good luck!

Thanks I did get to work.
I ended up slowing the Red Helix down to 20 FPS and it's running through the boot sequence at a good speed now. It seems like every boot animation I've tried so far runs faster than intended on my phone though which I find strange.
Yeah I noticed that, too. I wonder if it's because our phone is actually faster at processing the graphics and that's why it seems so fast specifically on this phone? When I get some time I'll slow them both down and add a link. Thanks for your input!

Question on bootanimation.zip
I just installed my first MOD today, a battery icon change, and now I want to change my boot animation. I read up on where to put it, how to do it, etc, but when I go into /system/media, I see all the files associated with my battery icon and then I've got:
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
Let me now (lol) amend my previous statement - what/how do I replace the 'bootanimation.zip' file? lol
Update: I move the two files above into a folder and put a bootanimation.zip file into the /system/media location, booted, and showed the Samsung logo twice, and then came to my home screen. Moved the files back and it's booting AT&T style.
I know someone knows what I did wrong. Care to help me out?

I just installed my first MOD today, a battery icon change, and now I want to change my boot animation. I read up on where to put it, how to do it, etc, but when I go into /system/media, I see all the files associated with my battery icon and then I've got:
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg

You need to be using a kernel that supports it. The kernel has to have samsungani commented out. And bootamimation enabled
In ramdisk init.rc
But theres a binary that calls for sanim so u have to make the zip name sanim.zip and place it in system/media..
But like i said kernel has to be changed to support it there also has to be a command at the end of init.rc .to stop the bootanimation or it will just loop over and over. And leave the qmg files alone they do not need to be moved or alterd.
Thanks Greek & Silver.
And since I'm since I'm using Silver's initial UCLA ROM/Kernel/Modem, that was all stock (I believe) so it wouldn't work anyway. Do I have that right? So in other words, I'd need to go with a different ROM that has a kernel that supports swapping in a new animation?
I will try the sanim.zip route anyways just to see and get back with a result.

Not necessarily a new ROM, but just a new kernel that supports boot animations. Like silver's updated LA3 kernel that supports it, as I think he's worked out all the kinks now.
