Poor YouTube quality... settings. - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Youtube quality is really lacking. I've tried playing many HD YouTube videos, and the quality is rather fuzzy. I have the settings set to start in high quality. Not sure if there are other settings to improve this. Netflix is fine, and other videos. But YouTube is really lacking.
Anyone else have this? Or advice?

My videos play in HD and seem fine/ high quality. Try going into settings, clear you tube cache and data. Then reboot tablet. It might get things back on track and your HD videos playing properly/high quality.

Not all YouTube videos marked HD are high quality. Pull up some videos from LadyGagaVEVO as virtually all of those are high quality.

There is something clearly wrong with the Youtube app and this device. I am getting 14mbps down on wifi with my SGN10.1 and there is no way Youtube should have buffering issues at all.
I can set VEVO on high quality and it streams flawlessly.
So nothing wrong with our tablets. Its a software issue.

My YouTube plays great and that with a linksys e3200 that has been on the fritz lately. I don't see any buffering at all. Check your router though. It maybe channel bonding that maybe keeping your signal from being stable. Or try clearing the cache.
My prime was a different story with YouTube until doing some tweaking.

I heard also that alot of times you tube "app" doesn't play true HD. BUT going to YouTube website and watching the vids in HD will give you the real thing.
I also agree HD videos in vevo look stunning. As for buffering, I haven't came across that yet. All videos seem to play well once they start. As long as you have fast internet connection.

I've noticed this too. Definitely a fail on Android's part. I've owned an HTC Rezound and LG Nitro HD, both 720p HD screens with higher pixel densities than the iPhone 4/S/5's Retina Displays, yet the quality of YouTube videos is terrible.
On the aforemenioned iPhones, the picture is sharp, whereas on Android, it's pixelated and nasty. Reading text, viewing stored pictures/video, and browsing webpages in general is great, but YouTube blows. I'm very disappointed this has been such a long standing problem.

You're right though, viewing YouTube videos through the browser and "manually" selecting 720 or 1080p does give a sharper picture (like iPhone), but we shouldn't have to do that.

How did you get it to install? I disabled my youtube app, and it still wouldn't install. Did you use something like rom toolbox to uninstall it to get this one on?

I just installed normally and it went through. Keep in mind, I'm rooted and YouTube is NOT a system app on my phone. I believe there were troubleshooting instructions on that thread I linked.

My apologies, I've been referring to mobile this entire time. I'm on an HTC Amaze, but it's worked on every mid-to-high end Android I've tried so far.

Touch to call (from web browsing etc)

Hi there,
Basically I've just moved over from the 4S to the S3 (international) and I'm loving it so far with no regrets what so ever. However there is one thing I really miss and that's touch to call. By that I mean the option where you can touch a phone number on a Web Page or file and it would ring the number without having to copy and paste etc.
Is this exclusive to iPhone or is it also available on Android, Windows etc?
Anyone?
Haven't personally tried the galaxy s3 yet but on all my other Android phones that works. I think there are some certain Web formats that cause issues where it doesn't work, but most of the time it does it no problem. Works the same with addresses that I click on, it will bring up Google maps automatically for me.

[Q] screen recorder for tab2 running CyanogenMod 10.x

This isn't in regards to the built in screen capture, but the actual recording apps you find on Google play. None seem to work, and the ones that do, make my tablet run terribly slow. Won't even record in the first place...does anyone have a fix for this? Trying to make videos of candy crush hacks I've installed to explain to family and friends on Facebook....not to help them out, but to make them get mad. LoL...thanks?

Neither screen cast or the 3rd post in that link is an option...screen cast, continues to show a black screen during recording and I'm definitely not spending money on HDMI supplies and software... Thanks anyway though.

No I meant the option in which u connect to the pc and record it is 3 option this one 3.*Option: Recording Your Android Smartphone’s Screen on PC A good alternative to the ScreenCast app is connecting your Android device to your computer and using*MightyPocket*or a similar program that lets you see the screen of your Android device on your computer monitor and take screenshots as well as record the screen.*This is a great method that allows you to record longer videos at once. Also, all the software needed is freeware, making the cost of this option $0.
Hit thanks if helped

What happened to 'Screen Compatibility Mode"?

So on my old Toshiba Thrive 10.1, anytime I ran an app that wasn't optimized for the large screen, it asked me if I wanted to stretch to fit or something to that effect. Probably a Gingerbread thing?
On my TF700 I've been trying to play Avadon: The Black Fortress again, but no matter what the screen is like 60% what it should be.
Obviously with a 1920 x 1080 screen it's just not stretching it from the game's native 1024 x 768 size, but why won't it stretch?
What can I do to make it work out?
Thanks much!
View attachment 2037390
I've not come across anything that doesn't stretch to compatibility mode yet? I'll see if I can try that game out.
EDIT: Ah not at £6.18 I won't!
EDITx2 : Found the demo
---------- Post added at 10:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:14 PM ----------
OK this is a poorly written app. It forces a resolution and doesn't use the Google api to stretch it. Uninstalling sorry but you'll have to ask the app dev to make it properly compatible.

youtube removed 4k video on G3

Yesterday's Youtube update removed 4k video capability on the G3. Dont understand why they have added the capability few weeks back and now removed it. To get 4k, you have to remove the most recent update and get version 4.9.
People were probably moaning about load times.
Did it ever have 4k? 1440p was the only option I ever saw and it's still there. 4k is 2160p.

My bad, it's 2k, 1440p. You are saying after updating you still see 1440p? I read the review and noticed a lot of people with G3 complaint about the missing 2k option. I did not see 1440p as an option after updating the app.
I'm still seeing the 1440p option on mine. Using latest youtube version 5.10.1.5.

1440P Shows on my YouTube as well on Latest YouTube No issues here!
Okay, correction, my YouTube app just now requested the new update to 5.10.3.5 and it did indeed remove the 1440p option on videos. 1080p or lower only now. Why they did it? I'm not sure.
I had to force it to update to the latest version, but it does indeed remove 1440p, even though I could never play it anyways at home (check with isp availability before moving!)

Version 5.10.1.5 has 1440 option
I can't get mine to play 1440p or 4x. I have 100MB connection and everything. I can see it load I get sound but the video just hangs. But if its downloaded to the phone no prob not idea why...
Just watched a Lumix 4k Test Video with settings only allowing 1440 with Youtube Version 5.10.1.5.
Works fine for me!

WTF indeed! You need to go back to 5.10.1.5.
I think it was a placebo anyways. If you had your video on 1080p and turned it to 1440p, it started immediately like that and I didn't see any change in quality.

This is similar to people claiming no difference between 720p and 1080p. But the difference is there.
Definitely not placebo effect. Just pull up one of those 1440p videos that are on the phone and compare to any 1080p video.

I reverted back to 5.10.1.5 and used TB to stop the auto update for youtube.
I'm on 5.10.1.5 and 1140p will play for a bit then it will stop but audio will continue to play. Also some 1080p videos work some don't. I'm able to play 1080p just fine on my computer so it isn't my internet.
I hate the new update ....

The "Normal" photo is with default camera settings. The "Super" photo is with super resolution (92MP) settings. XDA may compress the photos... It does seem to work though.
Yah i think it's compressed. How does the super look on your end? Very detailed?

It is far far faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better than the 808 or 1020. In fact this is the best image coming out of ANY smartphone on the market now, period. You put this side by side with an iPhone 8 or Samsung S8 and zoom-in and you just wanna laugh. And its not just about the totally insane resolution.. its also about the dramatic reduction in noise. I have NO CLUE why no tech or photo reviewers talk about this camera module and shooting mode (the Zenfone 3 Ultra also has the same camera module and Super-Resolution mode by the way and costs about 1/3 of the AR).
This said, many times focus is a miss and the camera does need to be steady and not shooting fast moving subjects. For those situations you can just use the native 23MP mode that still totally crushes any iPhone or Samsung. Another thing worth mentioning is that the 92MP images are typically way over-sharpened and over-processed. To correct that, one needs to go deep into the Super-Resolution Settings Menu, disable all AUTO-OPTIMIZATION features and then manually adjust Detail, Sharpening, Contrast, Color and Noise Reduction. The Settings I have found to work best for me are Detail 0, Sharpening 0, Contrast -2, Color 0 and Noise Reduction -3 (the images will tend to be a bit noisy but you can later clean them up much better in Photoshop or any desktop editing app than the phone's NR can do directly.
Hope these tips help
