Changing Rom, slow radio - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi everyone,
When I change my rom from AT&T to any other rom, ( ICS ) my phone takes forever to switch to LTE. from HSPA
When I loose LTE single and it goes back to HSPA then it takes for ever to switch back. I live in the DC area in a strong lte area.
When I re installed the stock rom from AT&T tar file it doesn't take any time to switch over.
I have tried all the radios from ATT to Rogers radios and nothing, all of them are slow to switch.
I don't mind the stock rom from AT&T but next month I am going oversea for a few weeks and I want to buy a sims card there.
I am going to buy the unlock code for my phone. Will it switch over or do I need to change the radio to and unlocked on from Rogers. If I change the radio now I am afraid of the same problem above.
Thanks for any help

Telus cdma + rogers gsm

I'm trying out a new TP2-CDMA from Telus (Canada) and this is by far the best system I could ever try in my case. I've always been a GSM user (since 1994) mostly because it gives you the latitude of using what ever device you want just by inserting your SIM card. so I got the Phone Inserted my Rogers SIM in it and it got me on the Rogers network right away I then activated the phone on the Telus network and it is also working fine... of course...
But the best thing is that I set it on "Global" network and it stays on GSM (Rogers), and when I get to an area where there is no GSM signal it switches by it self to the CDMA (Telus) network!!! this is amazing! NO MORE DEAD SPOTS! Of course you need to have two Service contract from two different service provider, but if you absolutely need to get service in areas where your current provider does not offer any, well it sure beats the hell out of having two different cellphone in your pocket... I have set my main cell number to transfer to the other on "No Answer after X # rings" and I get all my calls no mater what network I'm on!
The only down side to this TP2-CDMA Unit is that Telus got rid of a bunch of stuff that is in the TP2-GSM... like the GPS for instance... Well I guess you can't have it all...
I got Bing to work... so there is a GPS.... but Google Maps won't work...
Just thought I'd share my joy...
there is a telus gps registry fix on pccgeeks.
GPS works... i have google maps, tomtom7, and bing running fine, but sometimes, getting a lock can take very long
still new to winmo, so not too much going on with the phone, but am learning =b
zedex26, you are right!! there is a GPS!
The only thing is that I can't make Google Maps to work... it instals but when starting it it keeps on saying Loading... and never opens.
Anyway now were talking!! it has almost everything I was used to... But NO "Camera Flash" not that it was so usefull as camera flash but as a "FlashLite" it was...

inspireqc,
I finally got GM to work... Don't know why but the device needed to be on the CDMA network in order for the program to load... because on the GSM network, the program does not even load... it keeps on saying "Loding" and I could not even access the program... It's like it does not see the data connection...
Anyway There are other maping SW that work very well on both network on that particular device.

I've found that I have to manually switch the data connection in order to use Google Maps when I switch between GSM and CDMA. It does work w/ both, however it's much better when I'm on Telus b/c this TP2 can't use Rogers 3G network. Keeping my fingers crossed for when they finally crack this baby open and hopefully find that the North American 3G freqs are there.

I have both iGuidance 4 and Google Maps working, I am aware that some people have it working out of the box and some don't
Did you have to sim-unlock your phone first?
My friend looked up the technical specs of our chipset and they do support North American HSPA but it is not available, either by a hardware or firmware\software lock.
WOW
GSM and CDMA both work... that's fantastic.
Does this mean that it hold 2 different SIM cards? Or is the CDMA part devoid of a SIM card?
Would it be possible to use a GSM SIM card from any provider around the world and reconfiure the CDMA part to work with any CDMA network around the world?

well i would think it would be a radio issue have the same with mine. use it strict on rogers. i also looked up a little but the tp2 telus is 800 and 1900mhz hspa and rogers system is 850 and 1900mhz hspa so the frequency may be a issue as well.
anyone know how to fix the caller id name problem while on gsm?
Canadian folks, or TP2 users in CA, i have a Sprint TP2 thAT i would like to get to work in CA, what is the best scenario for both voice and data, thanks a lot

for sprint phone i would stick to telus or bell unless you can put a sim card in your phone then your looking at rogers and the cdma global phone wont work on 3g rogers just edge
Thanks hiwire men, Sprint TP2 is a World phone as you know and will take any SIM, so you saying it wont get 3G with Rogers? why is that, is it Rogers or what is the reason? and hand how is Telus and Bell do it, they just input it in their database and bam, or will it require some ROM flashing. thxxx

after reading up if you want 3g on rogers network you need a tilt 2 do to the fact rogers uses umts/wcdma 850/1900 mhz sprint is 900/1900 BUT the edge network will work on your sprint phone to rogers other then that it is it. rogers is doing alot of work on their 3g network and i think most of the fido network is 1900 mhz and rogers is 850mhz 3g but i think personally it may work in the future but not gonna be anytime soon. The 3g should work on telus and bell and might on fido ill have to see my friend and try it out. but i know for sure right now it dont work with rogers.
thank again, I do not have any FIDO preference, I assume coverage with Telus or Bell are about the same.So just walk the TP2 to the TELUS or Bell store and it is done?

Making "LTE" Work

I have flashed many different roms trying many different APN configurations, and found out the only way to get true "LTE" speed. Is to stop at the carrier (AT&T) and have them put you on the "LTE" network. Without this no way to recieve "LTE" speed. You can also call them & tell them you have a new phone and give them the IMEI number. No need for different sims just do there thing. No added cost to plan, just them changing you in the system. And hold on because this thing is Faaaaaaaast!!:
Yes...you need to subscribe to LTE network with your provider since LTE runs on different bands than your regular GSM bands.

Yes u have to have them add lte to your plan. I believe this was discussed in depth a dozen times
You do this only one time rite? After flashing t989 roms you can just enable LTE by editing APN.
lte
Never got it to work on My tmoble roms
I have gotten about 24mbps max with t989 roms i think.
Someone clear me on this.
So if you get a ATT skyrocket, on LTE network.
And you flash it w a Tmobile based ROM you lose LTE connectivity?
I'm curious because, even w a custom ROM i go to about phone shows having LTE network connectivity
Do a speed test, I would say if you got it to work in you got the lte icon your speed is way better you probably got it. I didn't have any luck but that was before I went to at&t and had them change my plan. since then I haven't tried a t mobile rom.

[Q] Unlocked One S on Straight Talk - stuck at 2g speed

I have a straight talk AT&T micro-sim that I was using in my wife's AT&T iPhone 4 (unlocked but shouldn't matter) which was configured with the att.mvno APN. 3G data and MMS worked wonderfully. Now I have taken the same SIM and put it into a T-Mobile HTC One S and I cannot get 3g, let alone 4g, data to work. MMS is functioning and 2g data works. I have unlocked the bootloader via the HTC Dev method, rooted the stock ROM, and I have SIM unlocked the phone using ascot17's method on this site (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693491). I have tried the att.mvno APN setting (works, but only 2g data) and the newer tfdata APN setting, which gets me NO connection at all. The funny thing is, when I reboot the phone, it shows 4G data for about a minute, and if I run the speedtest app, it gets 4-6mb down speed which is about right for 4g in my area (Janesville, WI). After about a minute, it switches to 2g. I have also contacted HTC (no help, they say it's a network issue) and Straight Talk (no help, they walk me through APN changes and then claim I need to contact the manufacturer). Has anyone had any luck getting the One S to use 3g or 4g on Straight Talk? Would I be better served to get a T-Mobile SIM? Is it worth trying to flash a custom ROM instead of my rooted stock or is that a waste of time?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

[Q] LTE not working after radio update D821

About a month ago I was in an LTE area and browsing xda and noticed a radio update so wanting the latest version I immediately flashed it. I noticed on rebooting that my lte wasn't working and I thought that the settings had just been corrupted but after a full re flash of the system and the modem I still can't get LTE in an area where other 4G phones can. However my HSPA+ works fine pulling 20mbps next to a cell tower.
Wondering if anyone can help?

Three UK Lte bands 3/20

Why don't you flash the old radio on which LTE worked fine?

I did, still no change. I thought that would be the solution too. I might be onto something but not sure? On the APN settings does having the bearer set to LTE make a difference, I never noticed before but noticed that it wasn't set now.

Verizon M8 on At&t/Cricket

I have rooted and s-off. Used the guide to enable additional bands. I used NV values 65626 and could get LTE in some areas but not in others. I'm starting to think it's radio related. Any suggestions?

what bands, specifically, did you enable?
Bands 2, 4, 5 and 17. I'm located in the Raleigh Durham area of NC. When it was connected to LTE I used the LTE discovery app and confirmed the uplink and downlink freqs. 1900/2100 if memory serves me correctly.
Currently using the VZW M8 on Cricket. I'm getting HSDPA but no LTE.
But I have no complaints. Phone is awesome and mobile data is working flawlessly.
Yes it's radio related. Verizon and ATT do not use all the same frequencies and bands.

Hi,
I tried to read any info about it. But I don't know....
Here is my theory: The Google Play edition (GPe) is open to any LTE channels. I know that you can turn the verizon M8 into GPe M8... (I don't know if the phone can operate on Verizon after all :S )
So hopefully that can work, but I NEVER TRIED IT!
So If some GURU can help us that would be grate. And also a "How to" -from the very beginning ( Stock rom, s-on, non rooted, etc) would be nice too.
Thank you
Ps.: I was only modifying Samsung, Sony, Motorola, Zte before. This HTC "magic" is totally new for me

I am in Virginia. Right now using a stock Verizon M8 and I do get AT&T LTE signal( download speed is around 10M, upload is 7M. Phone info said the network is LTE).
I guess my area using band 4 for AT&T LTE.
I am considering enable band 17. If you are available, maybe you should share some thoughts of your Band-unlockin process and your LTE signal situation.
Thank you.

I went to an ATT store inquiring about moving from VZW. They said my M8 would NOT work on their network. Who can i contact at ATT to get the straight scoop and move? I am in Wilmington NC.
Very competitive Verizon MVNOs are starting to emerge, have you compared coverage in your area? I'm on ROK Mobile and it's freaking awesome.

Most of the ATT guys are clueless, not matter they are in store or over the phone. Just ignore them.
All you need is get an att nano sim card, put it in your verizon m8. Boom! You could text and call now!
And then you need to edit APN settings to get data working. Go to settings, Mobile data, Network settings, GCM/UMTS Options, Access point names, and add a new APN:
Name ATT Phone
APN phone
Proxy Not set
Port Not set
Username Not set
Password Not set
Server Not set
MMSC http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port 80
MCC 310
MNC 410
Authentication Type None
APN type default,mms,supl,hipri
APN protocol IPv4
Bearer Unspecified
save this APN and select it to use. Wait 30 sec to 1 minutes, Boom, you would have H+ or 4G LTE depending your location. For most area you would get H+.
You don't even need to root !
im on edge slow slow slow
I get HSPA+ on my stock M8. My APN is "phone"
I have GoPhone account with AT&T and I get LTE in some areas, nothing done to my phone, stock Verizon m8, apn set to nxtgenphone , I get HSPA most of the time, but I do get LTE in some locations here
