You can put the .zip file (ROM) on the sd card.
then go to cwm: wipe cache, dalvik, and factory reset.
then choose install from sd card and find the ROM in the folder you putted it in.....install....you are done
hit thanks if i was helpful

-thanks for ur response, i Wiped everything , but when i hit "apply sdcard:update.zip" nothing happends. what should i do now?
do i need to put the zipfile in a specific folder or something?

You should replace the file name to update.zip (not update.zip.zip).
Can you try again ?
---------- Post added at 10:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 PM ----------
Also, You must put update.zip file in local sd card.(Not in the file)

Where on the SD card should put it? The update.zip file thanks

[Q] Need help installing CM7

Okay, So here is what I have done so far:
1) Rooted phone
2) Installed CWM and flashed the i9000 version per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107881
3) I reboot into 3e recovery, wipe data and cache
Here is where I'm having the problem. My only options are Reboot, Reinstall packages, delete all user data, delete cache, format internal SD card. If I try to reinstall packages it tries to open update.zip (which doesn't exist) and doesn't let me choose a .zip from my SD card. Also I get the E: signature verification failed.
I had CM7 on my captivate and I remember having this same problem but don't remember how I solved it. Any help would be appreciated because I am feeling frustratingly slow on this. Thanks!

Sounds like you need to install modded 3e recovery (putting the modded recovery file into system/bin) then hit "reinstall packages" option twice. Try THIS link
That gives you working CWM
When you get to flashing CM7, after the first flash, a battery pull and re-flash is needed. Also don't forget to flash gapps!
There is a video on YouTube about that recovery

Root of the SD means onto the SD card, but not inside a folder.

You can't flash a custom recovery by putting it on the root of your sd card. Since you can't use ROM manager, you have to flash it using fastboot. So you said you pushed the recovery, I'm assuming that means with ADB?
used root explorer...but when i pushed te recovery that i downloaded from the thread i left on top i overwrote recovery that was there but nothing..did the steps but the recovery didnt change..try to install rom from teamwhiskey..these are the steps given ..
Installation:
- Upload zip file to your /sdcard
- Reboot to recovery (CWM)
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe cache
- Go to mount storage and mount /system
- Go back to previous menu
- Install from zip from sdcard
- choose zip from sdcard
- reboot it will take a few minutes for first boot to complete
but my recovery doesnt give me these options...HELP
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &
Read the Forum Rules Ref Posting
Moving to Q&A
The root of the sdcard is the directory /mnt/sdcard
Use Odin to flash a CWM7 rom - that'll give you all the options you need in recovery.

You have the standard recovery. If you're on Froyo and you followed the steps in that post, then when you boot into 3E recovery (yellow letters) go to "Reinstall packages" (I think...something similar). When you do that, it'll come back up into CWM.
IN RECOVERY IM GETTING BLUE LETTERS..
IT SAYS THAT CANT OPEN ZIP SAYS THERE IS NO SUCH FILE
VIBRANT WAS SO MUCH EASIER
Did you place the update.sip on the root of your sd card?
If so choose update.zip
then reinstall packages
I think it's been I long time. And are you on froyo or GB?
Stephan ..much thanks the only thing i had to do was reinstall packages..
So got pass that part now why when i try to install rom it tells me that..
Cant mount/ sdcard/download/bionix_frost_sgs4g.zip(team whiskey rom)
instalation aborted..

I've seen a lot of threads lately about not being about the mount the sdcard. I don't know off-hand what the fix is, though. The best thing I can suggest is to search the forums for "can't mount sdcard" and see if you can find a fix.
Best of luck.
You never answered. Froyo or GB? Bionic Frost is a Froyo Rom. We need to figure out what you are on before we can really help.

I'm on froyo..I'm stuck..just thinking of just Odin a Tom but I really want to try the team whiskey..any suggestions?
Maybe a factory reset? I'd have to look through the other threads about the sdcard issue. I've been fortunate enough to not have run into it.

Yeah, keep me posted. Sorry you're having so much trouble. I wish I had better insight into why.
I wonder if you put the sdcard into the PC via a card reader, backed up the contents, then re-formatted it (FAT32), if it would make a difference?
Stephan thanks alot for helping but nothing tried to format and with new card with same issue..I've looked have found other threads with same issue but no answer...not sure what to do...any help or other options would be appreciated

He means: Copy it to the SD card (not in any subdirectory/subfolder). Name it update.zip. I assume then you would "apply update" from CWM although I have not done it that way before.
If you're talking about the ROM from this thread did you catch that the developer specifies "4EXT Touch Recovery by madmaxx82" under the list of requirements? I can't think of how that might make a difference but he does specify it.
I suspect either it is either:
1. not where you think it is; or
2. it didn't copy correctly (if so, likely unmounted while still writing that 300MB+ file); or
3. you're in the wrong menu in CWM.
You are trying from "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard", yes?

If its a rom why dont you just flash it like a rom. Full wipe and flash in recovery. Sounds like rom is in the right place. Just dont rename it and flash it like any other rom. You are also posting in the wrong section this belongs in Q & A so please keep all question there or in involved rom thread. Thank you

Everyone uses 4ext touch recovery to flash roms now. We no longer use boot manager.
I gotta say it. Don't post in the dev section unless you're contributing something.
Also, the minimum for a full wipe means hit factory data reset. Nothing else is necessary, though you can wipe it if you want.

Link2SD doesn't longer detect 2nd primary partition

I once created a second primary ext4 partition in my SD card and link2SD was able to detect it, but it stopped doing so at some point.
I have tried fact. restoring the phone (which didn't unroot). I have formatted the second primary partition into ext3 and ext2. Nothing.
My phone is the LG Optimus L5 (E612g) with rooted factory original ICS 4.0.3 ROM.
I can't find anything on the web that says that anybody else had the same issue. Please advise

Cwm means clockword recovery mode that should have installed before rooting
dalvik cache is a program cache area for the program dalvik. Dalvik is a javabasedvirtual machine that is the basesfor running your programs (the ones that have the .apk extension). In order to make accesstimesfaster (because there's not JIT (just in time) compilerinstalled by default), the dalvik-cache is the result of dalvik doing a optimization of the running program.
Thats all:thumbup:

Does LG Optimus L5 support moving apps to SD?
When I cleaned cache, it gave me this error: "unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]"
I ignored that message, and continue to reboot. When I opened Link2SD, it asked me for the type of second partition, I selected the correct one, but it says that App2SD is not supported by my device.
Something funny I noticed, it's not asking me for granting Superuser rights.
