You have the standard recovery. If you're on Froyo and you followed the steps in that post, then when you boot into 3E recovery (yellow letters) go to "Reinstall packages" (I think...something similar). When you do that, it'll come back up into CWM.

IN RECOVERY IM GETTING BLUE LETTERS..
IT SAYS THAT CANT OPEN ZIP SAYS THERE IS NO SUCH FILE

VIBRANT WAS SO MUCH EASIER

Did you place the update.sip on the root of your sd card?
If so choose update.zip
then reinstall packages
I think it's been I long time. And are you on froyo or GB?

Stephan ..much thanks the only thing i had to do was reinstall packages..

So got pass that part now why when i try to install rom it tells me that..
Cant mount/ sdcard/download/bionix_frost_sgs4g.zip(team whiskey rom)
instalation aborted..

I've seen a lot of threads lately about not being about the mount the sdcard. I don't know off-hand what the fix is, though. The best thing I can suggest is to search the forums for "can't mount sdcard" and see if you can find a fix.
Best of luck.

You never answered. Froyo or GB? Bionic Frost is a Froyo Rom. We need to figure out what you are on before we can really help.

I'm on froyo..I'm stuck..just thinking of just Odin a Tom but I really want to try the team whiskey..any suggestions?

Maybe a factory reset? I'd have to look through the other threads about the sdcard issue. I've been fortunate enough to not have run into it.

Yeah, keep me posted. Sorry you're having so much trouble. I wish I had better insight into why.
I wonder if you put the sdcard into the PC via a card reader, backed up the contents, then re-formatted it (FAT32), if it would make a difference?

Stephan thanks alot for helping but nothing tried to format and with new card with same issue..I've looked have found other threads with same issue but no answer...not sure what to do...any help or other options would be appreciated

[Q] Need help installing CM7

Okay, So here is what I have done so far:
1) Rooted phone
2) Installed CWM and flashed the i9000 version per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107881
3) I reboot into 3e recovery, wipe data and cache
Here is where I'm having the problem. My only options are Reboot, Reinstall packages, delete all user data, delete cache, format internal SD card. If I try to reinstall packages it tries to open update.zip (which doesn't exist) and doesn't let me choose a .zip from my SD card. Also I get the E: signature verification failed.
I had CM7 on my captivate and I remember having this same problem but don't remember how I solved it. Any help would be appreciated because I am feeling frustratingly slow on this. Thanks!

Sounds like you need to install modded 3e recovery (putting the modded recovery file into system/bin) then hit "reinstall packages" option twice. Try THIS link
That gives you working CWM
When you get to flashing CM7, after the first flash, a battery pull and re-flash is needed. Also don't forget to flash gapps!
There is a video on YouTube about that recovery

You can't flash a custom recovery by putting it on the root of your sd card. Since you can't use ROM manager, you have to flash it using fastboot. So you said you pushed the recovery, I'm assuming that means with ADB?
used root explorer...but when i pushed te recovery that i downloaded from the thread i left on top i overwrote recovery that was there but nothing..did the steps but the recovery didnt change..try to install rom from teamwhiskey..these are the steps given ..

[Q] HELP... hosed up the SR

Damn... got a bit too adventurous with the SR. Used the UOT Kitchen to make a simple battery/icon mod. Created the zip successfully.. but don't have CWM installed (running stock 3e Recovery). I was rooted running OTA 2.3.6. On my PC, I extracted the framework-res.apk from the zip and moved it to the SR. Moved it to /system first to fix permission (rw.r.r), then was going to move it to /system/framework folder. But being a complete azzclown, I thought I'd be cautious and rename my stock framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.OEM. Didn't even have a chance to move the cooked up framework-res.apk to /system/framework folder cause as soon as I renamed the good framework-res.apk, I was in FC hell. F. Anyway, now I'm stuck at the "SAMSUNG" boot screen. What's the best course of action at this point?
I can get into stock 3e Recovery Mode... but hoping there's a way I can just somehow rename my good framework-res.apk.OEM back to framework-res.apk. (Reality tells me I can't). Anyway, I do have a Titanium Backup on my external SD. Just not sure what the best steps are from 3e Recovery: In 3e Recovery, do I "wipe data/factory reset" ? Do I need to "wipe cache partition", or will I just F it up more.
I m pretty sure this will help!
it's Sean's work!
When in 3 e recovery do a factory data reset (home button is enter)
7. now close and reopen odin
8.pull the battery on your phone and put it back into download mode
9.in the pda slot this time select clockwork recovery.tar
10.make sure your phone is in the com slot and hit flash
11. now reboot into clockwork also doing a factory data reset
12.clearing cache partition
13.go to advanced and clear dalvik cache
14. lastly go under mounts and storage and format system
15. now install any rom of choice .. your phone should be clean

Appdroid... thanks for the quick reply... appreciate the help. I was avoiding putting CWM on until official ICS OTA rolled out... was going to keep the OTA 2.3.6 and 3e Recovery until then. If I wipe data/factory reset from 3e Recovery, will this put framework-res.apk back in /system/framework? Or is my only option now is going to download mode and Odin flash (and trip the counter)...

I've never installed CWM... I rooted the stock 2.3.5 with SuperOneClick back in November, then took the OTA 2.3.6 update... and maintained my root. I just did the wipe data/factory reset.. that looks like it only wiped my user data and reformatted the /data partition. Now when I try to get back into Recovery Mode, I get a white triangle with a yellow exclamation in the middle.. and a green droid under that.. WTF?
OK... I can get back into 3e Recovery... but can confirm, the "wipe data/factory reset" only erases user data... it formats the /data and /cache partitions. When I reboot from Recovery, it still gets stuck at the 2nd SAMSUNG during boot. Do I need to Odin flash CWM, or can I somehow Odin flash the stock 2.3.5 with 3e Recovery, then re-root... or will flashing the stock ROM also trip the counter?
I believe kernal only trips counter, but who cares about the counter. Do what you gotta do to save her. You could prob just odin cwm, wipe and flash a rom

UPDATE: saved the Rocket!
Appdroid, cdshepherd: Thanks (and XDA Thanks buttons pressed as well!). Brought the SR back from the brink of brickmania. Nearly 5 hours of hell from one idiotic move (which was renaming "framework-res.apk" instead of simply overwriting it with the UOT Kitchen cooked-up mod). Anyway, used Sean's method to wipe phone and Odin flash CWM. Then the fun really started when it was time to flash a ROM via CWM.. and I had no ROMs on my sdcard! So pulled my external sd out of SR, put it in a MicroSD adapter... then discovered my desktop computer couldn't read my MicroSD! So, shoved the MicroSD adapter in my work laptop, it auto-added drivers so SD was recognized in the laptop. Then, back to the desktop and copied my ROM of choice (went with silver03wrx's Stock 2.3.6) onto a USB flash drive. Ported the USB flash drive over to the laptop and copied the Stock 2.3.6 ROM to the MicroSD. Finally, popped the external SD out of the adapter and back in the SR... booted into CWM recovery, and flashed the ROM from the external SD. Things began to become much more clear after my 3rd beer and the clock striking 1am!
Re-downloaded Visual VoiceMail, Superuser, and all my purchased apps. After reinstalling Root Explorer, I actually braved the UOT Kitchen fiasco again and flashed my Kitchen mods... all working to perfection. Titanium restored all my user apps+data (and yes, did NOT restore ANY system stuff). 2am now and all that remains is to reinstall the volume button camera mod and translucent 3.4.4 Market app (both of which are pretty cool), and get my home-screen widgets re-setup. Oh, and by the way, my custom binary counter is still "NO", and says "SAMSUNG OFFICIAL". After all of this, I'm not sure why I even cared about the counter.... but in any event, it's still "0". Thanks XDA for all the stellar helpful posts and development materials.
Glad she's back up and running. A good thing to remember is, when your In CWM. You can plug your USB into phone/computer. Go to mounts and storage option in cwm and click mount USB storage. Then you can copy files between your SD and computer without having to do the SD card swap fiasco. Always remember to unmount SD from computer first. Hope this helps and good luck buddy!

I was pissed at myself for such a bonehead move (renaming an active framework file). After going through the whole process to bring the SR back from the dead, I was determined to get that freaking battery icon mod installed and risk it all again! Fortunately, it worked this time and all is good. With CWM now installed, I could have just flashed the UOT Kitchen zip... but was sure my Root Explorer process would work so did it again, but this time I "replaced" the active file instead of renaming the active apk.

Can't Mount SD Card in ClockWorkMod Recovery

So ive been at this for 2 days. I finally got the micro sd card with both files to install rom but in clockworkmod recovery i cant mount sd card nor format or anything. I can mount and unmount in the normal settings of the device and see it in root explorer but thats it. Its formatted to fat32. also on rom manager where it says to install from sdcard it only takes u to the internal sdcard which makes no sense because i was told u cant install a rom from the internal sdcard.
PS. This is my first Android Device!!!!
yeah
I am in the exact same situation. I am rooted on 4.0.3 and I wanted to install 4.0.4 or one of the custom ROM's. This is not my first android device but I am at a loss. I can not enter fastboot, can't load anything from the SD card in CWM recovery (get the message E:Can't mount /sdcard/), can not connect via ADB on my PC.
I feel that I have enough skill to do all of this because I have done it in the past. My ADB works fine with my Galaxy Nexus (just updated that and installed new kernel) so I don't know what is causing the problem. I have tried different SD cards(3) as well and nothing.
The biggest problem is I can not get into fastboot and SBF if I wanted to. I have been having issues with drivers even though I have installed motohelper like 6 million times.
I have tried factory resets and wipes and everything. I tried to do the factory update that is being pushed to me and I get an error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if this is stealing your thread but I think we are having the same problems.
check out my thread at xoomforums:
I PM'd it to u cus it dont let me put it here
Read all 3 pages. I think it will help u. posted same question there and a guy suggested to install the rogue cwm 1.5 recory via adb fastboot or whatever. he says that will read your sdcards. if i were u id try and fastboot on a different pc cus it looks like thats what we both have to do unfortunately. it looks like a pain!!! u have a xoom?

If you are using CWM recovery from Rom Manager (not recommended for Xoom) it does only read your internal flash memory (called sdcard) but not your external microsd card (called external1???). So you need to flash a different custom recovery using adb/fastboot to flash a recovery.image file or, if you can flash through cwm (from internal sdcard) a recovery.zip file (either EOS or Rogue, depending on the ROM you will flash afterwards), Actually, any custom recovery is supposed to work for any rom, but in reality Eos works best for Eos and Rogue works best for the CM9 Kang.
Please, just remember, never flash a .zip file through fastboot, only an .image file!
+1 i agree with the above, fixed this last night. I download a couple recovery images, which were blank for some reason, so i downloaded the zips and extracted the recovery image folder. Then opened the command window from the folder with the recovery image and flashed it with fastboot. Now it works perfect.

This is my first attempt at unlocking and rooting. So far I did manage to get unlocked. Now I am stuck at: Can't mount/sdcard . . . . .
I have been following the thread: [HOW] Rookie Rooting, Flashing And UnRooting Under One Roof
It seems to be layed out quite well and well, I'd never have gotten this far if it weren't for following those directions. I'm not discouraged because I know this is just a stumbling block. I can't wait to kill the bloatware and see if I can O/C this beast just a little.
Good luck to the folks who posted above me. I will post my results here.
Mike P.
I think the solution is much more simple...
The recovery uses normally e: an external sd card , you just trying by d: internal sd card , so take another sd card and dun let it be internal sd card...
And the recovery back on working with you

[SOLVED] Can't mount SD Card in red or blue CWM

I'm new to the SGS4G (been rooting for years since the early CM days on my G1), so please pardon my ignorance here. I'm unable to mount my SD Card with CWM. Yes, my card is formatted as FAT32 and is known-good in other devices.
If I boot into GB (VUVKJ6), then it has no problems accessing the SD Card locally or in Mass Storage mode via USB to my PC.
To get to the point where I'm at now, I followed this (to make sure I was fully stock KJ6) and then followed this beginning at step 6 (to get CWM on there so I can flash ROMs) but I get stuck at step 11 since I can't mount SD-Card.
I've tried at various stages with both red and blue CWM without luck. I've tried simply letting it mount it itself by trying to choose an update.zip from the SD Card and I've also gone into the Mounts menu to try and manually mount it.
Any thoughts?
-----------------------------
UPDATE: Solution was to format the SD Card within Android and on this specific device. I had cards formatted within Android on 3 different devices and they all had this same problem.

I just went to Red CWM (which I thought handled this but I've also tried manually adjusting it). By default (when I first boot into CWM), it displays:
- unmount /cache
- mount /data
- mount /sdcard
- unmount /system
It doesn't work this way. When I go to choose my update.zip to flash, it errors:
"E:Can't mount /sdcard"
I've tried to select "mount /sdcard" in the mounts menu and it errors:
"Error mounting /sdcard!"

Sorry, old terminology. "An update.zip" essentially means any zip flashable in CWM whether it's a ROM, gapps, a kernel, etc.

Weird. I wonder if it would help if you copy all of the files from the SD card to your computer, go into Settings, SD card and phone storage, Unmount SD card, and Format SD card, if it would then read it in CWM?

Apples to apples. You mention gapps. Are you trying to get CM7 flashed? Or a custom GB ROM flashed? Gremlin Remover is a one-click odin and will work with what steps you have mentioned you took thus far.

Ok, makes sense...i had to do the gremlin remover when cm7 gave me trouble and it worked perfect for me so i would say...nike...
For everybody mentioning gremlin, can you please hit me up with a link? I want to make sure I pull the most up-to-date one and I've not seen one recently but could have missed it.

Apples to apples. You mention gapps. Are you trying to get CM7 flashed? Or a custom GB ROM flashed? Gremlin Remover is a one-click odin and will work with what steps you have mentioned you took thus far.

At this point, I'm just trying to get CM7 + GApps. Doesn't matter what I'm trying to flash - Recovery can't mount the SD Card whether manually or automatically. That's the problem.

I used Heimdall to get to stock and then was using Odin to get CWM + CM7 on there. I'm at the point where I have CWM but cannot get CM7 because of the SD Card issue.

Oh ok... I'm sorry never had that problem before... Then only thing I can suggest is probably start from scratch again or get and us a different sd card

Weird. I wonder if it would help if you copy all of the files from the SD card to your computer, go into Settings, SD card and phone storage, Unmount SD card, and Format SD card, if it would then read it in CWM?

Not tried this yet. Will try this now with a couple of the cards I've tried.
By the way, thanks everybody for trying to help me! I really do appreciate it!

And what do you know? Of all things, this was the problem and I verified it with all 3 uSD cards I've tried! They've all been formatted via my old TBolt, a Fascinate, and Droid X and worked just fine in those devices.
Thanks for suggesting such an obvious and simple thing to try!
