Desire S upgrade ICS Step by Step - HTC Desire S

Hi all,
Simply , what shall u do to upgrade Desire S to ICS if you are the following... just guide me please
- Normal use
- Phone not rooted
- Region Arabic
- don't know the differences between RUU, ROM, Kernel
- Saw that there was something released on HTCDev but noticed region is CHS...don't know what is that, is that the final stage?
What shall I do, since its the first time for the update not to be OTA.
I have small idea, need guidance & links.
Thanks a million in advance

Simply, read until you know what you are doing. Until then, do nothing.

Why have you started a new identical thread?
Sywepd form my DsereiS

Htcdev has just released the kernel source, it is not meant to be flashed on a device but compiled on a PC and then installed along an ICS ROM but it certainly won't work out of the box.
If this doesn't make any sense to you, you'll have to wait.

[Q] Rooted 1.82 ?

Hi all, I am new to Android and HTC phones, in advance I know that my question can not have any sense. Today i have rooted my Z 1.82 with method described in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261
After it I have rooted 1.34 and i have also two questions:
1) is it possible now to upgrade to 1.82 and keep root,s-off,supercid? Or which Rom you advice and where i could some interesting ones?
2) referring to method i have used to root what method you suggest to undo all? Can i get somwhere a ROM for unbranded 1.82? My CID was HTC_032 if it is useful info for you.
Thanks

Hi,
If you get a custom ROM which uses the 1.82 base you will be able to keep root, SuperCID and S-OFF. The ROM that I am using (link in my sig) is Virtuous ROM which is based off the 1.85 release. Really great if you want the latest build with Sense.
You can use the same method (i believe) to Unroot, SIM-Lock and S-On.
Regards.
Ok ,thanks. Actually now I am using virtuous 1.0.1 as you, but my problem is that I didn't make any backup for my stock one before rooting. Now I would like to now how to back to the status from before rooting. My telcom provider is Era so I need stock Rom branded by Era :/

I think yes I ve used it to downgrade from 1.82 to 1.34 to get permroot. It is pretty well described in one of the sticked guides, and actually in my first post you can find the link.

This is the "Accessories" subforum.
As already mentioned, if you want a more recent Sense build, flash Virtuous. Its based on 1.85, and has some added features, but really not that modified. Much easier than messing with the newer official ROMs (which are not presently rootable).

To root 1.82 you must downgrade.
Safest and best way is the goldcard way
I had 1.82 unrooted desire Z
i used the goldcard way.
this link brings you to the topic.
Once you reach the third part.
you have to do following first
Start command promt.
Browse the command to you ADB folder
enter: ADB Shell Chmod 777 /data
Now you are able to pull the misc file from you phone.
This is normally only available at rooted.
now i run Cyanogenmod v7 =)
Kind regards
Resurrecting a 2-month old thread, posted in the completely wrong subforum, was probably a bit pointless.
Just saying.

[Q] I'm running a Virtuous Unity ROM, would I get the ICS update pushed to my phone?

Title says it all, I'm pretty new to this...
Thanks
short answer = no
Yeah if you want updates you'll need a completely stock phone. but I'm sure we'll have it in the development section before HTC bring it out to everyone

the ruu http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506
pre-rooted stock roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183684

For real, all you've gotta do is keep your ears peeled. As soon as boys start claiming to have the update, do a quick Google search & download either the RUU or find a "flashable" zip. Whoever relies on push service for updates these days anymore? If you did, you'd still be on some earlier distro of Unity.
Wow, you're still on Unity? The last time that ROM was updated was September!

Unity's really cool. Easy on the battery too. I moved to Endymion (and keep shuffling ICS & MIUI ROMs) for features & the latest Sense. I one could learn contentment, Unity would be the word. But alas, who's content with the world today?

Help please

Hi first find out your h boot version so you can be pointed to the correct guide. Different guides for certain h boot versions. Here is how you find your version. Pull battery put battery back in and press volume down and power at the same time. Hold it there and you will see a screen pop up. Look at the top of the screen. It will tell you your h boot version. You post your h boot version. Or you can search for a guide for your specific h boot. If you can't find it we can link you to the proper guide. Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply , my hboot is 1.27.0000
what should i do ?
Hello.
So your hboot version is 1.27.0000. Means you are using Ice cream Sandwich right now..
You can do the following:
1. Unlock your bootloader
2. S-Off your phone
3. Flash a custom recovery
4. Root your phone OR Flash a Custom ROM
You can also flash a custom ROM without doing S-Off. But I'll suggest you to S-Off your phone. It's not that hard, and it'll help you in the future..
Kindly read This Guide for further details.
Good luck.

Hi!
THIS thread and THIS thread could be very useful to you. Read everything, they are excellent step by step guides. The second link is the same anasmunir gave you, if you do not want to s-off your device but want to gain root access and install custom roms, go for that. Have a look at them and if you have any question just ask. Good luck!
Thanks for the quick reply.

There is no.. Jellybean with sense 4.1
There is sense 4.1 with ics or pure jellybean based roms.. You have make your choice
As you don't know how to flash a rom.. Then
Refer guide on "flashing roms with SON" guide by asskickar.. In sensation general section.. (step 4b gives you idea on how to flash a rom properly).. And the whole guide gives you the complete process of flashing from scratch.... pretty noob proof I would say

I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631 and it worked without problems
There are several ROMs out there:
These are AOSP-based and Jelly Bean:
ParanoidAndroid
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879111
CM 10
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782009
AOKP Jelly Bean
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828250
SuperXE-Intact-AOSP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942239
and there are ICS-based with Sense 4.1:
Elegancia
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429953
ViperS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671547
SmartDroidFour
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972316
also there are some MIUI-based ROMs and I'm sure I forgot some, but these are the best (my opinion)
so the choice is yours

Add required firmware version in Rules for Development

Hi everybody,
I'm here as a Sensation user with S-ON and 3.32 firmware.
I'd like to see ROM and KERNEL developers to show in the OP the required firmware version for their creations. Flashing something designed for 3.33 firmware on a device with 3.32 can bring unstability... I never tried, but it should be like this, right?
Some developers already put the required FW in the OP, but others do not.
So, what about to add this rule for the threads in the development section?
Don't use discontinued ROMs

Wrong thread maybe? Or you wanted to say: "Dont' use discontinued firmware"?
Nope, ROMs which are under active development all use the 3.33 firmware. It's the older ROMs that use 3.32

Well, this is something really good to know. I didn't figure it out because the Bruce's CM10 works fine for me (and for lots of other users) also on 3.32 And that's why I don't really need to go S-OFF and upgrade my firmware now.
Coming back to the topic...
In any case, I think the information you provided to me should be more highlighted in the development section.
Thanks for your answer.

[Q] No screen responce after booting Rom

I hope someone can help me... I recently unlocked my bootloader, HTC One X ATT, I am S-off and have HBOOT 2.14, CID 11111111. I am now running Team Venom ViperXL 3.2.7 and it is awesome.... but I would love to try Liquidsmooth Rom or PAC . But when ever I flash them from TWRP 2.3.3.1 and gapps it boots up fine...then once the language chose comes on there is no touch response. I don't want to use TWRP 2.5.5.0 I think there are issuse with that one. Is it the kernel? I spent the day looking for kernels that work. Rohans kernel won't work because he says on for 4.1.X not 4.2.x. I need some advice what will get these ROMs to work. I try re-downloading the Roms and re flashing but it still comes up to first page (language entry) but no touch response. Thanks ahead and do apologize for this long entry.
You need to downgrade your touchscreen firmwait since you have the 2.14 hboot. It says so on the op of most of those rom threads and theres a sticky in original android development section.

Thanks for the quick reply.... it helped, I found the downgrade tp-zip file. One more question I think. If I downgrade this, will I have to revert back to restore the Venom Rom back on my HTC? I read the entire post and didn't find any answer that was concrete. I just wanted to ask if you had a definite answer. Thanks for your time
