Cannot install Cyanogenmod 9 on Xperia Neo (MT15i) - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I would have liked to post this message in the forum of the mt15i but as I'm new and I'm not still allowed for it i will post it here and if a moderator thinks it is good to move it, i will be good.
This is it, I have read hundreds of posts and threads related to how to install cyanogenmod 9 on the sony ericson xperia neo. I will say the steps i know are needed and then explain where i get trouble.
1.- unlock bootloader --> as it is not possible in my device (says it is not allowed) I get root by:
1)Flash 4.0.4(4.1.B.0.431) ICS and boot phone (links are in post#1)
2)Flash kernel from 4.0.3(4.1.A.0.562) ICS and boot phone. Flash only kernel, don't wipe anything!
3)download DooMLoRD's Rooting Toolkit for Xperia 2011 ICS [FW:.562]: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1601038
read instructions and root your phone
(in case you are on linux, thanks to cha0sxl go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=114)
4)flash back kernel from 4.0.4(4.1.B.0.431) ICS. Flash only kernel, don't wipe anything!

2.- install cwm --> i do it by x-parts apk
3.- install cyanogenmod 9 from recovery
It really took me a long time to discover these all steps by forums. However, i get trouble in the last point:
3.- install cyanogenmod 9 from recovery
The problem is that when i go to the option "install zip from sdcard" (after wiping all data and cache) and launch the las stable rom:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=hallon&type=stable
i get a message of assert failed on "mt15i" etc. Yes i have read quite a lot about this problem in some forums (quite sure in this one too...) and i have learned that this error is because my device is not the mt15i, so it is telling me "this is not for your device, i will not install it", but the problem is that it does is for my device. When i go to the about phone options on android i see a clear mt15i.
I have read also that if I erase the first lines about the assert with notepad++ it will not crash, and in fact it does not, but once the installation is completed and i reboot, it stucks and it doesnt start any ROM.
I have tried with stable, RC and nightly builds but there is no way to install any cyano in the device.
So, what can i do? i really need very specific help to go ahead, and i would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Same Problem
I have unfortunately the complete same problem, would be nice to have a solution for that...

Rom Upgrade Help Required

Hello All,
I need your help regarding upgrade my captivate which is running on 2.1. I had hard bricked it once before when I was trying to update it via odin. Just got fixed it back from mobiletechvideos.com. Now I want to upgrade it to gingerbread Can anyone tell me any stable rom which I can upgrade safely and have 0% chance to hard bricked it again. Or any rom which I can flash via any other tool not via odin as I thought last bricked was caused due to odin. Pls help me.
I like the MIUI rom but I saw that it use ODIN so I am a bit afread to try it
Thanks
My understanding of the process.
I'm fairly sure you need to use superoneclick to root, that's step one. Next go to market and dowload ROM manager and install it, that's step two.Step three, flash clockworkmod recovery with ROM manager. Choose captivateMTD and let it flash. Step four, now go to the download ROM and choose an MTD ROM. I reccomend cyanogenmod as its aosp, overclocked and generally awesome. They have a stable build that's a great dd. Step five is to flash it. When the download completes it will promt you to wipe data and cache, clear everything and hit go. Step six would be to dl and flash gapps with ROM manager. Wipe cache and install. After all this you should be on cm7 stable. Pm me if you need help. I have the drivers and all files you could possibly need in my dropbox account.
Good luck and enjoy cyanogenmod.

please, for the love all that is holy, leave your phone alone if you dont know how to use GOOGLE
http://bit.ly/uoGYG7
I tried to download superoneclick via this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
All archive showing me damaged only 8 mb version is working but when I tried to root it via that version it shows me FAILED msg at the end. Any help in this regard ?
You do not need to root your phone to install a custom rom.
If you currently are on 2.1, boot into recovery and flash this zip file.
From here you can go about installing a gingerbread kernel and rom.
If you are unsure of the process, please do lots more research before you go flashing anything. If you brick again it's not my fault.

Step One: Root Done
Step Two: ROM manager installation Done
Step Three: flash clockworkmod recovery with ROM manager (When I clicked on it asked me that confirm phone model and when I clicked on samsung captivate MDT it said that clockworkmod not officially supported the captivate MDT and have you installed clockworkmod based recovery manually if I clicked on yes it proceed to the next screen and if I clicked no it said that without it rom manager will not work. If i clicked on yes it proceed to the next screen and asked me the clockworkmod version 2.x or 3.x. I select one of them and click on the install rom from SD card and then browse to my downloaded rom when I clicked on rom and it will ask me to backup exsisiting rom, wipe data and cache and wipe dalvik cache. I had selected last 2 options and clicked ok then it asked me to press ok to reboot into clockworkMod Recovery and continue the installation when I clicked ok and rebooted where it showing me 4 options: rebbot system now, reinstall packages, delete all user data and delete cache data. After that I don't know what to do BTW I downloaded MIUI rom as I wana try it )
Any Help ?
Its sounds like you are in the stock recovery still. When you get to the screen with four options click reinstall packages and it should take you to clockwork recovery. The you will have many more options. You will want to go to install zip from SD card then choose zip from SD card and then navigate to your rom of choice and click it. Then it will go through the install process and when it is done hit reboot now and you should be running your custom rom.

I don't read every thread, and I don't know where you got this from. was it stated that this is in the format required for i9003, or did you just pick it up from somewhere else and try to install it?
if it's not for the i9003, then you have to re-flash some stock rom to fix your problem.
if it's for i9003, did you ensure you're using the same fw as was designated for the ics port? for example, is it for kpq and you're using kpq? if not, then you have to restore the backup you made before attempting this. if you forgot to do that, then you have to flash a stock rom to fix your problem. if they were matching and you're having problems, why not ask for help in the thread where you got it from?

Thanks for you review and comment.
First of all, i would like to stated that i have fully meet the requirement of flashing a custom rom. I'm user of KPQ of course i will find a custom rom for my i9003 KPQ. The purpose of this tread is to mention why every time i flashing a new custom would have the same problem occur whereby my device always stuck at the booting logo or reboot over and over again. This has make me troublesome to reflash back to stock rom when every time i failed to do that.
First, i root.
2nd, install rom manager
3rd, Flash CWM recovery
4th, do nandroid backup (use rom manager)
5th, application & data backup (use titanium)
6th, then istall .zip (custom rom)
Is't i missed any step before i flash a new custom rom??
What about deodex ?? it's necessary for us to deodex before we proceed to update our device?
However, i have fully meet all the requirement but why every time i flash different custom rom also failed.
Thanks again for your kindly advice

oops, first, I misread 9lock as clock
then, when flashing a custom ROM, in general, you must be deodexed first. if it's required, I would expect the dev to mention it in their thread. after flashing custom rom, you must also wipe dalvik cache. I don't know if it's necessary, but I do both dalvik and "plain" cache after flashing. have you done these two steps?
then, if you're installing the alpha ics release from the other thread, as stated, it's alpha, so not bug free. in general, custom ROMs will have at least one or two bugs, due to not every potential possible combination of operations can be performed without extensive testing and correction, and especially on our phone, the testing isn't so extensive since there aren't so many users.
edit: I found the thread you're referring to. it's "RC2", which means not necessarily stable (Release Candidate 2). go ask tripin for some help
Thank you for your advice.
Now i can taste my new themes with having a few tiny bugs. I'm so impress you can solve my problem. By the way, i will post up a new thread which guide other people to install custom rom for detail step. TQ

then install cwm, put kishen's rom on your sd card, and flash and wipe normal and dalvik cache

Installed ROM but freezes at startup, also lost access to CWM

-For the direct question skip to QUESTION
-For the whole, continue reading
I have a Sony Ericcson X10 Mini Pro, which had installed a version of CM7 that got at the forums. I learned about rooting and installing custom zips here, so it wasnt my first time.
1) So I decided to try this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415026
In the requirements it says I need to unlock the bootloader, have the latest baseband and latest kernel.
2) Followed this tutorial for unlocking the bootloader successfully, no problems:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
3) Followed this tutorial to install the latest kernel and baseband successfully, no problems
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415012
Still with me? So far I got all the requirements so install the ROM just fine.
4) Followed the guide to install the rom, everything is fine. After the zip was flashed, and flashed gapps too, I restarted my phone and it froze at Sony Ericcsson startup screen.
Tried several things: wiping data, cache, etc. Had done this before, did the usual steps.
BUT I THINK I MADE A FATAL MISTAKE. WHEN THE CWM ASKED ME TO VALIDATE THE CWM, I PUT NO AND LEFT THE CWM SCREEN WITHOUT VALDIDATING THE CWM.
I know that was very stupid.
So my question is:
QUESTION
-How can I boot phone or reinstall CWM to reinstall the ROM again?
-Did I brick my phone? Do I have any solutions for this?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post, I tried to include as much as info as possible.
Auto-Answer:
Sony Ericsson PC Companion can flash over bricked phones and restore to the original system.
find this file "recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-ancora.tar.md5" and use odin multi downloader v4.43 theyre to flash this file i assume you know how to use odin, if your phone can still access download mode your phone is not brick.

P5113 root, recovery, rom questions

Hello community,
I was given the device last year and had been fairly satisfied with the performance of it. However, it has gotten laggy over the past couple weeks and a friend suggested to root and flash a rom on it. So, without any prior knowledge, I have been doing some research and browsing through the threads on this forum. I can see that there are guides but was very unsure if the methods would still work because I have noticed that most of them were last updated/edit a while ago. I know I shouldn't use the word 'latest' for doing this to a tablet that is fairly old in the market. However, it would be very helpful if someone can point me to some 'proven to work' or 'trust-worthy' guides of rooting, flashing recovery, and rom.
Also, just out of curiosity, please recommend which recovery and rom a first-timer should use if possible
try these roms.

hello ,
these are the things you need to do before flashing a ROM.
note: -the following things may void your warranty.
-do this on your own risk.
1. HOW TO ROOT
-First install kingo root on your windows PC. Then check USB debugging .
( settings. < about device < touch build number 7times < go back and select developer options < check USB debugging.)
-Open kingo root on the PC and connect your device and connect your device to the PC. Start root and do not remove the USB cable until it says finish.
-Now you have successfully rooted your device.
2.HOW TO INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY
- Go to the following link and download CLOCK WORK MOD(CWM)
LINK: https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Select your device and install the recovery.
go into the app and install recovery .
3.BACK UP
download rom manager from playstore and do a backup( do a backup using this ap only if you are using CWM recovery.
link for ROM manager: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...mmanager&hl=en
Now the first thing you need to do is download this rom.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934533333
(note: you can flash the rom of p5110 for p5113)

I was looking in the forum and someone said that I would also need to unlock the bootloader? If so, how do I do that?
Also, is there a difference between kingroot and towelroot? I saw a post in the forum here saying towelroot is fast and easy to root the tablet.
Not much difference.
Actually there is not much difference between kings root and towel root....towel root doesn't need a PC...but I have never used it so I can't assure you that it is safe.
And coming to the boot loader I don't know much about it but I didn't do anything like that before flashing a rom or rooting my tab2....
If you want further assistance about the boot loader I can help you with that..

Also, is there a difference between kingroot and towelroot? I saw a post in the forum here saying towelroot is fast and easy to root the tablet.

it is not necessary to unloack bootloader for tab 2 as it comes with a unlocked bootloader from stock.

Hey, it's been a while. Honestly speaking, when I first posted this thread, I didn't really have enough time to do the things so now I am finally back and trying to do it. So far, I know what recovery and rom I'm going to use with all the files downloaded and ready. Though, currently, I am still at the pre-root stage. I have read up things about kingoroot and not sure if I wanted to use it. So I looked around on the forum and wonder if Odin is still a working solution. Reading on the steps and guides, I was wondering if I need to have Kies installed?

Kies is not needed as it never helped.
You can depend on odin it is your only saviour when you are in trouble.
I think rooting with kingroot is easy as it is just connecting to your PC and cick the start button.
So just notice me when your ready.
And there is also one good news...?
Tab 2 has got marshmallow.

I have rooted the tablet. I did it with odin and twrp with flashing the updatedSuperSU zip folder.
I have tried flashing the CM12.1 rom yesterday but resulted in a boot loop. So for now, I'm just rooted and on stock rom until I or someone can find out what was the problem. I have read about the discussion with marshmallow but it seems to me that the project isn't really stable yet. From what I have researched lately, can I assume there's issue with the p51xx line of tablets? Because I saw many people having problems with p51xx and most people with the other tablets aren't having any.

You first must update your tab to jelly bean bootloader, before trying out newer roms.
Or perhaps flash stock jb firmware with odin
Whatever you choose, both is ok.

The first thing you do, is take a nandroid backup, it's very important at every step, unless you are really ready to risk. It's better to have it.
Next Read through the rom threads, clear your mind and your tab too. You must format data.
Stay on twrp 2.8.7.2. Don't go to the latest one yet.
Flash rom, wait, it will boot up.
Every tab behave differently with every rom, sure you are going to face soft reboots, on some roms it will be a lot, on some it will be less. I would suggest you try both LP and kk first.
Remember, it's better to keep this tab updated than to stay on stock. This tab 2 series has a emmc bug and staying on stock or jumping back is a risk too. I have been on kk and lp. They both have kept this tab running great and away from that bug.

Do I have to unroot first? Do you have a link to making a nandroid backup?
Edit: Oh, I looked at the link you included and it said that if I am on stock jb (4.2.2), I can skip the update bootloader part..
When you flashed the new rom, did you do a factory reset (wipe data)?

Yes, that's what I meant too, if you're on jb already, you are fine. You don't have to unroot. For making a nandroid backup, use twrp recovery, there is an option for backup, select and backup all from there, if you get into bootloop or any other problem, as long as you can get back to recovery, you can restore from there. Most rom comes pre rooted.

Did you clear dalvik cache in recovery before flashing rom?

Yes, I cleared the top four options in recovery, and formatted data before flashing.

That's what I did. Let me just briefly summarize what I have done:
used odin with twrp
booted into recovery and made back up
cleared dalvik, cache, system, and data, formatted data
flashed update supersu, booted into system and checked root with root checker
rebooted into recovery, cleared dalvik, cache, system, and data, formatted data again
flashed cm12.1 and gapps, rebooted but ran into bootloop at splash screen
rebooted into recovery and restored back up
So I'm rooted and on stock 4.2.2 currently.

Try flashing blisspop or slimLP.

Cannot get past bootloop when installing roms - D2403

Hi everybody!
I have spent the whole day trying to install Slimrom on my Sony M2 aqua D2403, and after I didn't succeed, I also tried cyanogenmod 12.1. I am already past the state of going crazy!! I hope somebody can help me
So, what happens is that after a lot of time I finally got TWRP to work and was able to install the custom roms (I'm a semi-noob, as I have installed custom roms on my old Sony M, but am still not very knowledgable).
I am getting bootloop on both roms that I have tried today, and I have tried it MANY times. Have flashed stock rom with flashtool by Androxyde several times and tried from there (Android 5.1.: 18.6.A.0.175, as well as Android 4.4.: 18.3.1.C.1.17) .
I followed pawcioo132's instruction from the slimrom forum: Quote:
1. Recommend to start at stock LP.
2. Update bootloader via Emma.
3. Flash recovery via fastboot (each i recommend).
4. Full wipe (cache, data, dalvic cache, system)
5. Flash latest ROM.
6. Enjoy.
Part 1 I have already mentioned here.
Part 2 seems to not be possible with the M2 aqua. At least Emma tells there are no services for my device.
So, I found a solution that at least let me enter recovery mode. What I did is i flashed (with flashtool) the FTF made by linuxct (from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/development/twrp-2-8-7-0-updated-theme-t3252807), which is supposed to be the same as updating the bootloader through Emma.
Part 3-5 was no problem. Everything went fine (after I succeeded in finding the FTF file mentioned above - which took like 7 hours or so).
The only thing that didn't work was part 6. I have bootloop every time. The boot animation just stays forever (I have tried up to 50 minutes) on both roms I have tried.
Was it maybe because of what I did in part 2?
Does anybody have any idea what I can do? Maybe someone who has succeeded in installing a custom rom for the D2403 could tell me what they did differently or something like that.
This is my first post here. I have done my best to give all relevant information. If there is any important info missing, please tell me!!
The Roms I have tried are
- Slimrom custom 2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/orig-development/5-1-1-slimrom-xperia-m2-lte-t3244761
- CM 12.1 beta 2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-developement-t2971213
Thanks in advance for any help!

If u did all of this and didn't work, you probably have a D2403 with GPIO problem.
There is a lib file to remove to workaround this, but somethings don't work if u do this
(Sorry for bad english)

Thanks a lot, Paulo! Your post made me read a lot about gpio and in the end I decided to try to install the z5 s.t.y.l.e rom by linuxct. It is running perfectly and I am more than satisfied with it. Amazing! Thanks again!
